I had a bad experience with Thai Town. We ordered $100+ for a small group of friends. When I ordered, I knew exactly what I wanted and got to the point, but the woman taking my order tried to rush me off the phone advising that she had customers waiting. I specifically asked for chopsticks, none were in the bag. The containers were about 3/4 full (ordered size Large) and were predominantly vegetables and water. I was looking forward to the egg roll because it was advertised to have the same wrapping as a spring roll. Anyway, it came in a styrofoam package half-filled. I ordered the yellow curry, my husband got the red curry, and we decided to try some spring rolls as well- all of it was perfect! We ordered to go from across town, and it was still piping hot when we got home. The curry also has a very healthy amount of food to soup ratio so it's pretty filling, which is great, because the left overs are just as amazing! I was hoping this would be amazing and it was just okay, but definitely not worth the price. Crab Rangoon(7.95) were terrible flavor wise, even though they looked delicious. They had a sour flavor and too many crunchy bits of onion or celery in them, I'm not sure which. I also had chicken pad Thai(10.95), which was pretty good. Nothing special. I had to pick out the large inedible chunks of green onion. The flavor of the sauce in the pad Thai was pretty tasty, so I could actually eat this part of my meal. I have a general rule to not leave negative reviews on Yelp because I don't want to harm small business owners. I prefer to highlight good to great restaurants. I'm breaking my rule because it appears that the owners of Thai Town are absentee owners and the employees are not empowered to fix mistakes. I am sorry to say perhaps no one there has eaten thai food or been to the east at all! We have been wanting to try them so we ordered food for 2 which came to $51! To say it was bad would be an understatement. My aunt and I believe they must not have corn starch there or don't understand the concept of a sauce because everything that should have a rich creamy sauce was flavored water. Probably one of the worst meals ive ever had. The worst spring rolls I ever tried. What is supposed to be rice wrap around a spring roll, was really thick like a tortilla almost, and the peanut sauce thats supposed to go with it was so weak. The chicken skewers were rubbery and some were completely inedible. By the time I got the skewers they were cold and literally dripped juice from the smaller bag they put the skewers in, into the plastic bag and got everything else drenched in chicken juice which was disgusting. The only thing that was somewhat worth it was the steamed pot stickers and even than I wouldn't order them ever again. Overall awful and would not recommend anyone ever order or eat from here. I wish I could get a full refund. Very unhappy and dissatisfied especially for the price they charged for that lukewarm, unfresh, bland garbage... If you actually think the food here is good you must have the pallet of a Cow. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Wow! This place is fraudulent with debit cards and delivery. We ordered lunch today from the lunch menu. The charge was $7.95 for pad Thai. The size delivered was certainly small and most definitely a lunch portion. I noticed my bill was $17.85 for delivery to a location that is .5 miles away. After calling them to dispute that, I was told that the delivery fee was $3. Then she said it was $6. And the tax was 30%, none of which makes sense. I called my bank immediately to dispute the charges. Skip this place. It's not worth it. read more

I've been a loyal customer for years. The food tastes very good. Ingredients are fresh and the flavors are nice. No more. Over the years the portions have shrunk. Over the years there has been less and less meat in the portions, more and more filler...onions, water chestnuts, thin sauce etc. Over the years the staff has stayed nice in store, but the ownership has changed hands and it's been for the worse. (see the response to a customer from March of 2013 below...) Yesterday I bought lunch for us and guests visiting my home. They come from out of country and always look forward to the food from Thai Town. Our food came and looked like lunch portions. They were that small. I remember when this place opened, two entrees and my husband and I couldn't finish it all! The curry looked like SOUP. SOUP I tell you...maybe 5 pieces of meat in the whole dish. Then I called to check that we did NOT get lunch portions. The first woman who answered the phone apparently was not aware that she worked at the restaurant and said she'd have the owner call me back. Fine. Then he called back. And I can tell you that he is as rude as in the post below. He was rude from the moment I picked up the phone. He was abrupt. And he told me he didn't care if he had my business. Fine. Thank you. I'm just commenting on the food everything else with this restaurant is ok. I will keep it simple. I ordered a chicken dish I cut the chicken took a bite and it was cold. Told the server and he apologized and explained to me that sometimes they don't microwave it long enough before it goes into the fryer. Seriously??????? Thai food, when done right is flavorful and fresh, a perfect balance of texture and spices (sweet, sour, bitter, spicy). I wish I could say that Thai Town delivers that and then some, but they just don't. Tucked away in the long strip mall in South Elgin off Randall Rd. and Silver Glen, amid the Targets and Caputos of the world, lies Thai Town. A cute little, cheerily decorated (in bright orange) locally owned Thai food establishment. Their menu is pretty standard American Thai food (pad thai, wonton soup, fried rice, Thai iced tea, etc). We dropped in on our way to the Paramount Theater for the latest show, "The Music Man," in order to fill up on delicious Thai food. There was only 1 other table occupied in the restaurant when we got there, and by the time we left there were 2 others as well as a handful of takeout orders that had been picked up. Prices are typical suburban Thai food prices at about $10+ for an entree or noodle dish. You won't find any city type mind blowingly cheap dishes on this menu, which is a little bit of a bummer. The staff is quite friendly & took turns refilling our water any time it was less than half full (quite optimistic, I guess), which was much appreciated. Our server came over with a big smile on her face to take our order, equally appreciated. Our soups came out pretty quickly, and they were piping hot and smelled divine. My soup (tom yum) was just ok, not the best I've ever had. There were a lot of vegetables in it (I asked for no meat), including a generous portion of onion. I wish that the broth had been more spicy and sour; it was sort of weak as is. My hungrier half's wonton soup was "really good," a high compliment since this guy thrives on wonton soup. Our matching entrees (chicken pad Thai) arrived before we finished the soup, but they were molten hot, so I didn't mind letting it sit for a minute. The portions were a bit small, more like a lunch sized portion than a dinner portion as compared to the countless other pad Thai dishes I have under my belt, but it was still plenty, leaving me with a snack-sized leftover pile. The food itself wasn't very memorable. The noodles were overdone to the point that they were short from being stirred in the sauce in the kitchen, and it wasn't served with a lime wedge, which is pretty standard in any other restaurant I've been to. The hot sauce that we were given was WAY watered down too, resulting in me having to essentially douse the pad Thai in order to taste any heat. The best part of the whole experience for me was in the bathroom. Their sink is probably one of the coolest sinks I've ever seen. It's a leaf shaped raised bowl sink in a beautiful gradient of red to yellow...SO COOL. But I digress...The bill for 2 people (water to drink, wonton soup, tom yum soup, and 2 chicken pad thai) was $36, which I think is a bit high for "meh" food. With Thai Village just up the road, I think we'll pass on Thai Town the next time we're looking for a Thai place to dine. read more

My friend and I decided to try Thai Town the other day. It was a little hard for us to find (there is so much stuff on Randall Road and Thai Town is in a strip of stores behind some other buildings so it wasn't visible from the road), but now that we know where it is we're definitely planning to go back! I love Thai food and there were a lot of options on the menu that sounded good, but I decided to try something I haven't had before: Panang Noodles. It was wonderful! Very thick, soft noodles with vegetables and a yummy panang curry sauce. My friend had Pad Thai with chicken, which she said was very good too. The portion sizes weren't too huge but we were too full for dessert. Prices for entrees seemed to be in the $9 to $13 range (average). I want to try some other dishes, but the panang noodles were so good it will be hard not to get that again. :) read more

The food is wonderful. To the nay sayer about people being crazy rating so high, you must have just been there on some random off night. I use yelp all the time & travel at least 40 times a year. It's a necessity to rely on yelp reviews. And... I obviously eat out frequently due to travel. Thai Town is a 4-5 star restaurant hands down. The pot stickers & crab Rangoon are some of the best I've ever had. The pad Thai chicken, also the best. We've recently become addicted to the Thai coffee, so good! My picky 9 year old loves the chicken satay. I love our usual order so much I don't try other things, lol. I'm sure it's all amazing. The ambiance isn't fancy 5 star equivalence, but it's quaint & clean. The staff is so attentive and grateful for the business. A true local gem. read more

We moved to the area a couple of years ago and wanted to find the best Thai food in the area. We have been trying many of the restaurants both in the immediate area and some of the cities surrounding here. Thai Town is by far the best. We enjoy the others, but keep coming back again and again here for our Thai "fix". We worked our way through the menu, trying each meal and marking it off as we tried it. We each have our favorite now. The Panang Noodles are wonderful. We have had it both mild and hot. Both are great, but we prefer the hot. I also love the Thai Fried Rice. I have now been ruined and cannot have it anywhere else, it is so good. My wife loves the Tom Yum soup. The mix of the lemongrass and the sweet/spicy flavor starts out the meal just perfectly. The Pad Thai is also great. It stands out as the best we have had in the Chicago suburbs. The portion sizes are generous. We always take home enough for us to have lunch the next day. I would recommend both the restaurant and anything on the menu. We have yet to be disappointed. read more

My Mom and I were not impressed with this establishment. The pud Thai is sub par. It was a little sour and did not have much sauce. My panang curry was just OK not even good. The soup and appetiser were good, but nothing special. I would be interested in trying this place for lunch because they do have a good selection of large sized soups. Was craving for some Thai food and decided to check this place out. Walked into an empty restaurant and sat down. My first thought....please let this be good. We ordered the eggrolls for appetizer and the red and panang curry. Egg rolls were decent. My red curry was great. Nice and flavorful. I went the mild route and was glad I did because it did have a hint of spicy flavor for me. My dining companion got the panang curry with a spice level of 6 and said that was a little more hot than expected but still tasted good. The only thing I could see as a negative is that for the price, the portions are a bit on the small side, but what are you going to do? Good Thai places are hard to find in this area and for me, this is a good one. read more

The food here is excellent. So good. I've been dreaming about going back again. The shrimp cigar appetizers were fantastic. I had pad see ew and it was exceptional (that's my go to entree when I try a new Thai place). The service was good. My complaint is that there are no lunch specials available on the weekend. Also the restaurant is in a strange location (connected to the X Factor - whatever that is). The portions are not gigantic but are definitely filling. I went here on a lark, just to see if it was good. My girlfriend and I eat a lot of Thai food because eats easy to get a wide range of vegetarian options for her. This place was really yummy. I had some Schezwan style Chicken and noodles with a side of Jasmin rice... it was superb AND it happened to be one of the Lunch Specials so it was cheap too, only 6.95 for 2 stomach fulls of food. My girlfriend had the Green Curry with tofu which she loved as well. I had a taste of it and it was quite good. The staff was nice and we got plenty of attention seeing as it was pretty desolate on a Thursday afternoon. The decor was ok, various pictures and paintings against a purple painted room. Plenty of tables and chairs. I don't live close enough to be going there for take-out often, which is a shame because I liked the food as much as Akina's in Elgin, but it's a little bit cheaper at Thai Town. My girlfriend remarked that the tofu at Akina's was slightly better though. An older gentlemen came to the restaurant sometime during are meal and greeted the manager and the waitresses happily and made friendly conversation with them (that we couldn't help but overhear). He seemed to be a regular and complimented the food and the service several times. He said something like "This is good eats... and cheap too!" I'd have to share his sentiments exactly :) read more

Thai Town is great, genuine good that tastes a lot like the quality of the Thai I first tried, which is on the east coast. So good! The service here is so attentive and sweet, and the food is always delicious. The appetizers and the noodles are my favorite. At most times, there are not a lot of people in there, but I will never understand why! I'm a huge lover of Thai, and this place is great. So, I try to support them by going once a week or twice a month, and I'm always happy to since the prices are awesome, and the food is always amazing. I know the location is a bit weird and it may not strike you as a name and location of incredible thai food, but give it a chance. I can almost guarantee you won't regret it. My family has been a fan of Thai Town ever since they were in Elgin on Randall by the Dunkin Donuts. They have since moved - twice - but we still enjoy their food. The main reason they get 3 stars from me is their new location. The last time we visited was on Valentine's Day - just a week ago - and I was not happy. It's odd enough that they are located in a nightclub. Beyond odd, really. But we were seated next to the window - and anyone in the Chicago area knows it's been frigid here lately - and I was FREEZING. The draft from the windows made it impossible for me to enjoy my food. I left my coat on the whole time - which doesn't make it enjoyable for me. It wasn't just me either, two other tables next to the windows had their coats on too. The food was solid, and the service great, as always, but I just can't get over the cold. read more
