I'm ashamed that I've been driving past on my trips to and from Grand Asia for 15 years, but never stopped in. A busy counter line at Grand Asia is what lead us to stopping in as a family of 3 needing a quick place to grab a meal with a hungry toddler. Service couldn't be nicer and welcoming, food came out quickly, and we loved the no frills just good vibes atmosphere. Crispy spring rolls were crispy, salads all had lots of lime juice, and chicken was the most tender we've ever had in your typical Thai restaurant. They always greet you with a friendly smile and the prices are great. I have only ever gotten the Pad See Ew but its definitley super good. Very flavorful and not mushy at all. I have never had a bad experience at Thai Villa, the food, the service, the people watching - all awesome! Ive had everything from noodles, to curry, to papaya salad, and a whole fish! Everything is prepared very well, the spice level can be as mild or as wild as you want (and I like it spicy). The servers, while not overly friendly, take care of you and get your order out quick! Always accommodating and any kind of special request. Prices are very fair for the portions you are getting - especially any of the noodle dishes! Really enjoy me some Thai Villa and it is my usual go-to lunch spot if I am catching a movie at Crossroads! Oh yea, the people watching - man, you sure do see some funny folks in this place. The search for the best Thai in the Triangle brought me over to Thai Villa! Tucked away in the same plaza as Grand Asia Market, Thai Villa is a tried and true choice in the hood. And for the most part it delivers. I tried out the Thai Villa noodles which I call chicken pad kee mao. We're talking wide rice noodles stir fried with basil, chili sauce and some veggies. Thai Villa did it just right, the chicken and noodles were seared and browned well just to give it the right flava! My friend wasn't quite as enthused with his pad thai which was disappointing. I've probably driven by this place a hundred times, and never noticed it before. You can see it from Hwy 1/64 if you look quickly, but it's not really visible from Buck Jones Rd. It's in the building between Motel 6 and Grand Asia Market. I was in the mood for Thai, and figured it was about time I tried something new. The restaurant is a small room at the end of a large brick building. It probably seats about 50 or so, though during lunch while I was there I think there were only about 12 people. The furniture and decor were rather cheap, but at least it seemed clean enough. The service was quick, and I got some water and a Thai Ice Tea right away. I checked out the specials, and the Curry Puffs that were featured looked pretty good. From the description, they sounded a lot like the Thai version of samosas. I also got a cup of the Tom Kha soup with chicken, and the red curry with pork, 2 on a scale of 3 pepper spiciness. My husband ordered the mussaman curry with chicken, 1 on a scale of 3 pepper spiciness. Nearly all of their entrees came in a lunch portion which was smaller than the dinner portion, except the chef's specials. Since it was lunch time, we both ordered the lunch portions. The Tom Kha soup had a mild spiciness level. This Tom Kha was unlike many I've had before, in that it contained huge chunks of chicken and nothing else. No mushrooms, no bamboo shoots. My husband was happy about that, but I was disappointed. I really loved the broth though, it was so soothing. The curry puffs came out looking more like a pasty than a samosa, since it had a thick, flaky crust like a small half-circle pie. The inside was definitely like a samosa though, with a lightly spiced mix of potato and other things. We weren't given any option on the spiciness, but it had a good flavor even though it lacked bite. The entrees were brought out before we even finished the curry puffs. HUGE chunks of meat. I'm sure any carnivore would love this Thai restaurant. But unfortunately, I actually like veggies, too. I was looking at my husband's dish with the huge chunks of carrots, potatoes and onions, and I was disappointed all I had were bamboo shoots. They could have added some red bell pepper slices or onions in my red curry for some variation in texture or color. The flavor was good, but even at a 2 out of 3, still seemed a bit mild to me. If I order entrees here in the future, I think I'd go for a 3. My husband's mussaman curry was loaded up with meat as well. I tasted some of the curry sauce in his, and it was too mild for my taste. You couldn't even tell if they had added any spice to it. The flavor was still good though. It had a rich, creamy, nutty flavor to it. The lunch portions seemed really good to me. My husband was able to finish all of his, but I had enough for leftovers the next day. It's a good restaurant overall, and I did like the food well enough. But I think they should really consider adding some more texture in their dishes. One of the main reasons I like Thai food is because of the amazing texture- the crispness of fresh bean sprouts, the crunchiness of cashews and peanuts, the softness of the mushrooms, the chewiness of the noodles, the graininess of the bamboo shoots. A dish that's just meat and broth is a bit boring to me. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish. Perhaps I'll try the Pad Thai next time and see if it's more to my liking. read more

I've only tried a few Thai places in Durham/Raleigh area, but this one has to be one of the best so far. It was authentic and tasty. It's across the plaza from the Grand Asia Market (which I wasn't able to get to before it closed at 8pm, thus how I ended up finding this one.) Staff was super nice and very good. I guess it was surprising to find a decent Thai restaurant, but I don't think it would survive so close the Asian market and not be good. read more

We didn't think we would find a good spot but got Thai Villa last night and were impressed! Great food and by far the best Thai we have had. Having recently moved to the area, I was on the quest to find a spot to hit up on the regular in case I were to encounter one of my Thai cravings. It's a relief a friend of mine introduced me to this place! We called in to get pad thai and pad see ew to go. My friend is a regular here and when he was ordering, the employee immediately recognized his voice saying, "this is (insert name), right?" How cute! Anyhow, we got there in ~15 minutes and the friendly employee had everything set for us. Not gonna lie, the ride back was difficult- the stir fried aroma just could not be tamed! The pad thai was full-flavored and the noodles were perfectly chewy! The pad see ew had a smoky richness to it- I somehow ended up finishing the entire serving (and the portions here are massive)! We have frequented this place for many years, and the food had never disappointed until tonight. It seems the ownership has changed as none of the same people are there, and the flavor and quality of the food was abysmal. We ordered the vegetable soup extra spicy (no spice or flavor), the Thai Villa Noodles with chicken, and the Spicy Fried Rice with beef. For the entrees, I ordered my usual 5 peppers. When it was served, they said it was five peppers. Not only was there no spice, but there was little to no flavor. The Thai Villa Noodles were extremely sweet, something I have never experienced here previously; and the Spicy Fried Rice had no flavor, and did not live up to it's name. When I first walked in I was a little disappointed with the decor. Inside felt run down and I couldn't help but notice that a fresh coat of paint could go along way. Also the uneven picture frames was killing my OCD. I so badly wanted to go around and straighten them all out. The service was lackluster. Hardly any communication at all, not even a greeting. From the other side of the restaurant the lady yelled "how many" and I promptly replied "1". She pointed at a table and I was greeted with a me menu and a request for "drink?" After she took my order I did not see her again. Instead a younger man kept up on my service, refreshing my water and eventually giving me my check. In retrospect, the food was delicious. My order of Pangan Jae was delivered in a timely fashion. The portion was decent in size, and the taste was great. Seasoned well, ok heat (would have liked it hotter as I asked for Thai hot), and overall a yummy lunch. I wish the service was better or the place looked better. Either one of those would have given this place a fourth star. I'll visit again in the future just to just the service again, maybe my review will change, but for now it's a three. read more

Huge fan of Thai Villa. I can honestly say that this is probably one of the better Thai places in the Triangle Area. I love Thai curry, and this place does not disappoint. The Green Curry here is among my top choices, but I also love the other classic dishes, such as Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Panang Curry, etc. They can also customize to any spicy level you prefer. The service level here is also really great. The whole staff is great and personable. I love the decor as well. There are a lot of interesting decorations, all with a very distinctive Thai flair. Thank goodness. After searching for nearly a year for good Thai food in the Raleigh area, we finally found Thai Villa. Tonight was our first visit, so we went simple: pad thai, pad see ew, and thai custard for dessert (although, with such a great menu, we were tempted to veer off the beaten path). Absolutely everything was delicious. Coming from Philly, we've been spoiled with great Asian food, and have had trouble adjusting to NC's offerings; however, this is the best Thai we have had in NC, by far. Not to mention, the customer service was great as well! We received a call ~10 minutes after picking up our order to see if our custard was missing (and it wasn't). I don't think I've ever had a restaurant call me about a missing item, even when they actually were in the wrong. I'm not sure why they thought they forgot when they didn't, but that shows me they're detailed-oriented and thoughtful. I can't wait to keep giving this place our business! read more

I wasn't a fan of Thai Villa. I got egg noodles with chicken and I will say that the chicken was delicious and perfectly cooked but the rest of the dish wasn't. The egg noodles were just too bland and soggy for my liking and so I ended up not finishing my plate. I asked if I could do half shrimp and half chicken for my plate and was told I couldn't which didn't make sense to me. I was ready to pay whatever they'd charge extra so I was a little confused. The seats are also extremely uncomfortable. We sat in a booth and the bench was just so far from the table. Service was nice and there's plenty of parking out front. The interior could use a little sprucing up as well. Overall I would probably not come here again. read more
