My friends and I have been coming to Hong Kong Restaurant after golfing at Knight's Play for our post game meals and we have largely been satisfied with our experiences here. We often finish golfing around 9 PM and there aren't too many places that are open that late. Hong Kong has been very reliable for us in that regard. They have a small dining room and a couple of tables for us to just sit and relax while we wait for our food. I do wish it was cleaner in there, but I'm guessing most people just take food to go. My order is always their shrimp fried rice and chicken wing combo. The meal itself is affordable and comes with a ton of food. The fried rice is okay, usually a bit on the oily side and could use some more seasoning. Their chicken wings are why we come time and time again. The chicken is always piping hot, juicy, and there's plenty of meat on the bone. The flavor simply rocks. I would be curious to see how the other items here fare to the chicken wings. I'm 12 weeks pregnant and been experiencing allergies due to the chilly fall weather. I was craving some comforting dumpling soup and extra rice noodles! Was so excited for the Egg Foo Young ... over fried to the point that I could barely cut into it with a fork, and the sauce what the hell!?!? I think it had peanut butter in it, but whatever there is in it coated my mouth so weirdly and it took a whole glass of water to clear it out. I guess this is the first time back since the changing of ownership they used to have a decent wonton soup and was planning on that being the saving grace of my dinner but sadly that's not what happened. So my family and I live close to this restaurant. Maybe a good 10-15 minutes away. We have been going here for YEARS and absolutely loved it. The portions are amazing. Quietish. But busy when people order on the phone. Two reasons why I'm not giving this place a 5 star is because they have now begun to add Zucchini to their dishes. It makes it more full looking and way 'cheeper' on their end instead of adding healthier ingredients to their dishes. We haven't been back since last year because of this issue. Another reason why we haven't gone back is they always say 15 minute wait, when if on a very busy day, the wait could be up to an hour or even an hour and a half. read more

There was a lot of room for improvement by far - however, if you don't have anything else to choose from - this could be the place to go. Words of wisdom for you - double. check. your. order! *cough, cough* let be say it a little louder for those in the back, DOUBLE --- CHECK --- YOUR --- ORDER!!! Before you leave. We found that a few items were missing, however, they did not provide us with a receipt - so we were unable to check to see what we were charged nor be able to have proof of the purchase. Lesson Learned. Overall, the food was overcooked and lacked flavor. The egg rolls were EXTRA crunchy aka almost burnt. Not sure if we will go back to this location. We've been on the hunt for the best egg foo young in the Triangle and vowed to leave no stone unturned! We saw it was on the menu here so even though this is quite a way from us we decided we had to try it. It's mainly take with a few tables. We were eating in, but the take out was a steady stream the whole time we were there. The owner was nice taking our order and also shared cooking duties. I got the combo meal of two pork egg foo young patties with pork fried rice that also came with an egg roll. I also ordered the hot and sour soup which was hot as blazes both temperature wise and spicy with tons of red pepper flakes. It was too intense for me. The egg roll was just okay and a little too fried for my liking. The pork egg foo young patties are big and like the egg roll, a bit too fried for me making it somewhat dry even though it's kind of greasy. The gravy/sauce that you put on top was very nice with a five spice flavor, but not overpowering. All in all everything was just okay so our search continues. read more

I have been going here for years. The food is consistent but the service, as of late is so rude. Since COVID, they have implemented the Great Wall of arrows and directions with a credit card a lot and while to retrieve your food. We are not animals. Completely unacceptable. But looking over all this....zero customer service experience. Not even an enjoy your meal. You can ask how they their days is. No answer. You can say thank you. No thanks. NO THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS. so transactional. I will never go back ...there is no business that deserves my business that can not display common courtesy. The food is ok. The food is good here unfortunately they just lost me as a customer and that's sad because they are close and we eat lunch from here for 4 people every time we go. The reason? What's the point if the food is good, but you order a dinner portion at lunch of a chicken dish and LITERALLY get 3 pieces of chicken? No joke. 3 pieces and a bunch of vegetables. I ordered a CHICKEN dish NOT A vegetable dish and most certainly did NOT ask for extra vegetables. I gotta say what a rip off. Expensive for 3 pieces of chicken in a chicken entree. Owner is nice. Strange in the beginning but once you become a regular he is pretty cool. Be straight with your order. Tell them how spicy you like it and how much vegetables you want in it. They will customize it for you. This is my favorite hole in the wall chinese restaurant here at North Carolina. If you are needing something fast for lunch, this is the place to go. Part of it was my fault. I should have known better than to order broccoli and shrimp. The broccoli was fresh, the shrimp was terrible. The shrimp egg-roll was beyond greasy. The food is also far from quick. All in all the food was edible. For a cheap lunch special, it might be worth a shot. read more

Terrible and rude service. Ordered a sesame chicken with 1 spring roll on my lunch break. Took one bite and It was disgusting. Sorry to say it was the worst sesame chicken I have ever tasted. We have been in the new hood for a few weeks now and have had more than our share of run-ins with the Chinese food at Hong Kong. Our first order read like we were picking up food for a small village: Poo poo platter, fried rice, lo-mein, dumplings, sesame chicken and chicken and broccoli. All the greasy staples and yes you can make a food pyramid out of these gems. The dumplings are the star of the show, they can't hang with some of the dumpling specific places I used to hang in NYC like good ol Dumpling Man or Prosperity Dumpling but they are the best I tried in the triangle, Too many places around here fry up the Trader Joe's gyoza dumplings or some supermarket dumplings and call it a day (I'm looking at you Banana Leaf). However, I can't say I've been overly impressed with the rest of the menu and I almost never get a craving for Hong Kong, which says something considering how I ate Chinese food every other day when I lived in Manhattan. Turns out that this is passable Chinese food and probably a notch above Ginger down the road for your staples. My recommendation in the triangle is still strongly in favor of Fu Kee, a 20 minute drive from here but I think is worth it. If you are going to take on the calorie load, it probably is worth going for the top-quality player. read more

I have finally found a good Chinese place!!! I tried this place once when I first moved nearby, and it was decent but nothing that I craved. But then I came back with my dad last week, who definitely knows how to order, and I LOVED IT! So my dad told the owner/chef to cook us an order of Young Chow fried rice with roast pork and an order of beef chow fun. However, my dad, who has owned Chinese restaurants in the past, had him modify the dishes a bit...which the chef was happy to accommodate...and that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE! We loved the roast pork fried rice so much that we ordered another one after we woofed the first plate down! The key to a great meal - tell the chef to add one fried egg to your fried rice or chow fun order. It brings out the flavor...trust me! And, definitely tell them to skip the msg. Your body will thank you later! I will definitely be coming back. It was also packed by the time we left at 11:45am with people standing in line to place to-go orders, so looks like the place is doing good. read more

I've been going to Hong Kong for over 7 years. The food is delicious and the prices are extremely reasonable. Our "go-to" is either Sesame chicken, sweet/sour chicken, or beef & broccoli, and egg rolls/spring rolls. Before ordering food from this restaurant, I read multiple reviews. I'm new to the area after recently moving from NJ. I read some reviews from others who moved from NY and have to say that I agree with them. Two types of food you can find in NJ and NY that are top notch are Chinese and pizza. This is the second Chinese restaurant I have ordered from since moving down here. The other restaurant was downright disappointing because the food was awful. Hong Kong is, so far, the best Chinese food I have found in the area. It's not as good as what I can get in NJ, but for this area, it's pretty darn good. The owner was very accommodating when I placed my order because I asked for two slightly customized dishes and he had no problem with it. I will be ordering from them again. read more

We have been going to Hong Kong Restaurant in Cary, NC for years. It is the closest we found to our fave Ho Sun's in Manteca, CA. We love it......Sorry about the guy with the bad duck, but try something else.....AWESOME lo mein, better than anywhere I have eaten in the area. I describe this as "guilty pleasure Chinese food". It's not terribly good, but it's not terribly bad either, you know there are better places out there, but you end up eating here anyway sort of thing. You get a LOT of food for your money. We got shrimp fried rice, and there was no shortage shrimp in the rice. At first I thought maybe they put all of the shrimp on top to make it look good sort of thing, but no, it was filled with shrimp. The fried rice was probably my favourite dish that we ordered. And it was a huge take out portion. But the orange chicken barely tasted like orange, and the sesame chicken just had a bunch of sesame seeds sprinkled on top instead of each piece being rolled in sesame seeds. And everything was very sticky, obviously a lot of sugar or corn syrup. But something about it makes me want to get food there again, and I most likely will. One of the best parts is that they don't use any styrofoam for take out. read more

However I was wrong, this is your typical low quality, bland, unhealthy Chinese takeout that is catering to the average american that has never tasted quality Chinese food. We really enjoy this place! We had been going to another local Chinese restaurant but their food was always salty. Hong King is great. We've never had an issue with anything. Since moving back to NC my wife and I tried numerous chinese takeout places. Hong Kong was one of our first stops and we enjoyed it. We tried others thereafter but it soon became apparent that this place was superior in flavor and ingredients. For vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike I highly recommend the General Tso's with tofu. I'm still a meat eater, but I also eat tofu and it takes a little skill and care to get it right - - these guys know tofu. One improvement I'd like to see made is that they get a better front counter / order taker. When they get busy things get a little disorganized. read more

When you place and order for takeout, you give no name but wait aimlessly to be called... for over an hour past the time they told you. After reading the reviews I thought this was a great restaraunt, but after eating their myself twice--WRONG!!!! The women is soooo unfriendly and the food was horrible. Rice over cooked and fried chicken wings were extremely hard. Would not recommend this restaraunt to my worst enemy. I give it no stars. read more
