Restaurant is very clean and all the employees are clean and professional looking. All Thai restaurants are different. This one gets a thumbs up from me. Pricing in the norm. I prefer the fried rice, not a noodle type of guy. Dine-in portion looks larger than carry out. Young lady at counter is extremely helpful welcoming. Amazing!! This is the best Thai I've ever had in my life. I've been to so many places in Michigan and this is hands down the best. The inside is clean and has a ton of plants around that make the place feel really open and nice. When they say "express," they mean in. This isn't a normal Thai restaurant, as the seating is very limited and is designed more like the front area of a pizza shop, than a fully-fledged restaurant. Thai Xpress caters to people that want a quick lunch with no fuss. Since it is placed in the heart of downtown Southfield, this location is frequented by office workers looking for something different. While I would never suggest to eat here for a true Thai experience, it does what it is supposed to do in a pinch...provide food fast. The quality of the food is decent. The prices range, but there is always a special going on. The meal containers are huge and all portions come with a lot of rice. Satay was sliced too thin, seemingly to sell less chicken at the same price; none of the expected flavors/elements/grill marks were present. Just the lonely taste of salt. Chicken was overcooked--almost like eating a beefy index card. Stir fry was too soft. Received a text letting me know my order was ready 10min before their site told me it would be. I got there on time, but I was told it was soft bc I took too long to eat it (??). Steamed veggies typically still have some bite the following day, sooooo not sure why there's a 15min expiration, here... They insisted I couldn't get a refund if I couldnt bring it back today.... After 10 minutes of explaining why that doesn't make sense and how I shouldn't have to bend my schedule for errors they made--they finally realized they could give me cash tomorrow if I bring all of the food back...which seems sound during a pandemic. I'm very surprised about the first review. I wasn't aware they deliver, so I wonder if the reviewer is talking about the same restaurant, but maybe he is. Anyway, I think this is a decent place for quick, good quality take-out. I've never been disappointed here. I always order the food spicy and it seems there is some inconsistency in the spiciness level, but they have small cups of crushed peppers that you can take with you to make your meal spicier. Been there twice now since it's right next to work. First time was great food but yesterday (12/20) food was sub par. Might go there one more time but that's about it if the food sucks. Both times I've tried the special for lunch which is about $9 and as mentioned before first time the food was great. Yesterday it sucked - it was some sort of coconut curry stir fry. Again, this is where I wish Yelp! offered the ability to give half star ratings because this is closer to a 2.5 my opinion. A buddy and I met up with a former colleague of ours that works in the area for lunch. The place is super tiny and not ideal for dining in as others have mentioned, but we still opted to eat inside. The food was so-so and the portion size was a bit small for the $8.00 price. I ordered the Gang Garee and it was a scoop of rice with a small ladle of the yellow curry with chicken and potatoes next to it. I had maybe like three small pieces of chicken (less than a quarter of an average sized breast). Mind you, that didn't include a drink as I just asked for a cup for water (I kicked pop three years ago and they only offered fountain pop). Knock $2.00 off and that would be a more ideal price for what I got. My buddy got the Kow Pad with chicken and said it was average, and he too complained at the small portion size even though his dish was larger than mine. Cost wise it was a bit steep at $11.00 for his fried rice and drink. Typically noodle dishes cost more at these types of places, but it was the rice dishes that were a few bucks more which was odd. All in all I think I will pass the next time I am in the mood for Thai and look elsewhere in the area for something better. read more

Let me start by stating that the restaurant itself was a fairly neat little hole in the wall, with lovely shades of green. The service was pleasant enough. I ordered a spring roll and Pad Thai Curry. The spring roll was bland, tasted like various textures of plastic. I was unimpressed, but hopeful with the main dish. Boy, was I wrong. I asked for my dish to be moderately spicy, but bit into flames. The heat wouldn't have been so bad, but that's all I got. There was no flavor to this dish--where in the f*** was the MSG?? It was totally lacking real flavor, despite the heap of salt that I dumped on it. I finally gave up and tossed it out. However, the food was not very good. I got the Pad Thai Curry and it tastes like someone just threw curry powder on the noodles and mixed it around, leaving a dry feeling in my throat and the overall flavor of the dish is not great. This restaurant truly sucks... It's disappointing that they have survived this long. Check out better tasting Thai food restaurants in the area such as Bangkok City, Cafe Thai, or Bangkok Express or venture over to Royal Oak for Thai Cafe. The others offer better tasting Thai food, better customer service, and an actual dine in experience... Thai Xpress has survived solely on convenience, a quick/cheap Thai food menu and literally nothing more. The sad part is, they stop taking carry out orders over the phone long before they even close and the call in time varies depending on who answers the phone... Sometimes it's 830 while other times, it's a range between 810 and 820. Go somewhere else! the food isn't that great, the customer service isn't that great, the overall dine in experience or lack there of, isn't that great either. It's just not worth it. This was my first time there - first impressions - the place looked clean and brand new. But I've driven by there hundreds of times. The counter server was very nice right off the bat. One thing I didn't like - they don't have a carryout menu, they said their menu is on their website. I can't always look at a website, as i am old school and don't have a smartphone permanently attached to my face like most of the people out there. Any way I was surprised when I saw Pho on the menu - that's normally a Vietnamese dish... I guess more "asian" eateries are adopting other cuisines. But I opted for another item, there "Thai Noodle" soup bowl. Ordered the combo beef and meatball, and also 2 vegetable spring rolls. It wasn't expensive, $8.99 for the noodle soup and about $2 or more each for the rolls. It was quite quick to come to the counter. They don't serve you, but you can sit at a table, which I did. The spring rolls were crisp and still sizzling. However after biting into one there was essentially no flavor. I know every place has their own sweet sauce or hot sauce etc, but I like to taste the initial flavor of something before I doctor it up, I like to savor the nuances of the flavor profile. These rolls had none. A disappointment. The soup was steaming and was heavy on onions, cilantro (blech), a few bits of chinese broccoli. They gave me bean sprouts to dump in which to me don't add anything to the soup. But I am used to seeing the same thing when ordering Pho. The pieces of beef - which there wasn't much of - were at least cooked thoroughly. However the meatballs were gelatinous blobs with no flavor. It was almost unappetizing. For me the most important ingredients to any Noodle Soup is 1) the broth and 2) the noodles. The rest is just condiments. The broth was mediocre, as i said before it was heavy on the onions - which for me sometimes can make or break a good broth - onions can overpower the flavor, and sometimes I've found from my experience, eateries will toss extra onions in a dish to try and cover any oddities, like veggies or meat that are about to turn to the dark side, it was hard to tell as there was a lime wedge floating in the soup, I assume for tartness. However the noodles were cooked perfect. Often rice noodles don't get cooked enough or get over cooked. These were perfect. So for that simple fact of perfect rice noodles - I'm ready to give Thai Xpress another go. On their menu they offer a few Ramen bowls which I may have to give a try, or perhaps I should go with a more traditional Thai recipe. read more

Quick and Delectable! After sitting through a tedious amount of traffic due to the construction on Evergreen Rd, I can safely say it was worth the wait. The food isn't the "cream of the crop" of Thai food, but it'll definitely leave you licking your teeth on your way back to work, school or on your way home. My favorite is the E2: Gang Ped. I would have given this place five stars less than a year ago but the past six months have ruined the entire seven year relationship for me. The reason? The last two times I visited my sons stir fry literally contained none of the meat that was ordered, like they forgot to include it. Granted the young lady who took our order apologized acknowledged the error and was very polite. But that doesn't save the trouble and disruption to the meal. It's odd but we've never had any issues with lunch service, but dinner food is hit or miss. So we stopped visiting for the past few months. Partly because of the food inconsistency but primary because of Martina. She's a new addition to the staff and I find her too brisk to be considered polite. I tolerated her for the convenience of the restaurant until today. We will not return. She quite literally implied that I might be stupid because I declined her response to my request to purchase extra chicken after I took a look at my sons entree to go and found maybe six chards of meat in it. Hindsight I should not have volunteered to buy added meat I should have shown the cook there was no meat in the dish and the missing meat would have been served as it was before during our last visit a few months ago as I was annoyed and it's been that long on a return visit. I purchased the dinner special Pad Pak with a spring roll for 10.75. I have never ordered the special as we prefer to create our own stir fry but I was in a hurry and didn't want to complete the order slip. Plus the dinner entree is the same price as the special so I never really found any value in the special. Once I offered to pay the difference so I could have a side of extra chicken Martina in her zest to be a smart aleck pronounced loudly the difference is 34 cents and as nasty as you please is not allowed . Then proceeded to argue her point when I'd already requested the manager and was advised that he was gone to pick up his dinner, but, to the people in back I heard her say well she can just wait until he comes back. Then out comes the young lady who is often there in the evening to see what's happening and explain that Martina was just following the directions she was given but we couldn't talk for Martina and her never closed mouth. I tried to explain to the other young lady that I understand policy and it would have been fine but for the open mouth and the rude delivery. There is a way to speak to people. I was very respectful both to Martina and the other young lady. In fact that is how I learned the name of the open mouth, the second woman ultimately asked her to please stop talking and to use her name to get her to close her mouth. As a professional person I measure the service I get against the service that I am required to provide and found it so sorely lacking we will not return. I was being lazy and doing what was convenient for me but I will head over to Sala Thai going forward they have never failed me in almost 20 years. Insult to injury because my nine year old is a food snob when he discovered that again his coveted "spicy chicken" was missing he declared we are done with them and I was left with no choice but to go back out and get him a Whopper.
