We were very fortunate to find this charming and slightly hidden restaurant on our way home to Los Angeles. It is well worth your time to seek out Borrello's for a taste of what I feel is authentic Italian cuisine. Philippe was our worldly server who recommended the right wine to go with our individual meals. The adults enjoyed the tranquility outside among the trellises and shade while the kids devoured their delicious meat pizzas and drinks. The elegant service we received was underlined by how delicious each of our dishes were. There was a light and tasty green salad with a white cheese that was superb! The cheese looked like an egg but it tasted like mozzarella but with a soft center that was out of this world. We also had two small birthday cakes that we were taking back home to Los Angeles but we decided to enjoy them at Borrello's along with our meals. The owners were very kind in keeping the two cakes refrigerated while we enjoyed our meals and brought them out at the perfect time. In all, our entire family had a fantastic afternoon at Borrello's. I think this place has a lot of great potential of being one of the best restaurants in Carpinteria. Yet it missed the mark on flavor development. I'm a local in the town and I want my review to be tactful because it's so difficult to have a successful business in this area. Plus the owners are very welcoming and the atmosphere is so relaxing. In the least I'd like to see a lighter textured more salted pizza dough, more fresh herbs and farmers market produce in the dishes, and in house made ricotta and mozzarella, and good quality olive oil on the table. The dishes I tried were under-seasoned. For me, those adjustments would make a huge difference. I do want to return to try their lasagna because it's made to order. read more

Thario's kitchen is a cute restaurant with indoor seating & a cozy outdoor space for dining al fresco. The beet salad we shared we enjoyed, along with the lasagne was truly delicious. It wasn't very busy at 1pm on a Sunday (maybe three other tables were occupied) but it was NOT a restaurant to go to in a hurry, as it took about a half an hour to get our order in, and about an hour to receive our meals...but if you have the time, it's worth it! read more

Stopped by after a quick stop in Santa Barbara and we were incredibly glad we did. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of our food since we were watching the Chiefs and Ravens game, but the food was amazing all around. My mom and I shared the chicken piccata pasta, my boyfriend had the shrimp and leek, while my dad got the shrimp Alfredo. Food was well portioned and well worth the price. We also ended up getting dessert, I got the heavenly bites, my mom got their mango blueberry pie and my boyfriend got the crème brûlée. The heavenly bites were bite sized molten lava cakes, and as someone that doesn't particularly like molten lava cakes in general, these were good enough for me to finish. It's always great to find a really good new place (even if it's just new to you). Being from the Goodland we don't spend a ton of time on Santa Claus lane but we're sure glad we did this week. On a few friends recommendation we popped in to Tharios on a fairly busy holiday Sunday evening . The place was mostly full and the staff were a bit sparse but we were seated and were able to order drinks in a reasonable amount of time. It's interesting to note that although Tharios is a place that serves predominantly Italian style food they have a nearly exclusively French wine list! The Manon Rose was especially pleasant on a hot September evening, just saying :-) . The fairly simple looking menu belies how wonderfully good the dishes really are. We were all over the board order wise with me diving straight into the Diavola pizza with added spicy sausage. Exceptional! I could eat this every time and two could easily share one pie. Other selections at the table were the eggplant parmigiana and the veggie lasagna. Both Huge portions that were delicious but still had to be hauled away as the next weeks lunches :-) the meatball plate was an excellent appetizer and the Gamberi Arribiatta ( spicy shrimp In tomato sauce) could actually stand alone as a meal. The menu is fairly simple but it really offers a lot and allows everyone to get exactly what they want:-). You really can't go wrong with that. They have a very nice patio that would be great Covid or no but, of course, there was no indoor dining at this point though it looked quite nice inside. Service wise it was a bit scattered, it was clearly only two people doing all the order taking and food/beverage delivery so that wasn't optimal and because some dishes like lasagna and such take a 1/2 hour to bake meals sometimes come out of synch so beware if that's an issue. We stopped here for lunch after taking our dogs for a nice long walk on the beach. This is my second time having lunch here. The food was great- we shared a beet salad and a pizza. The owner was very friendly, explained the specials and took our order. The server seemed to not want to be there. We ordered water and he brought us one glass and a large bottle so we grabbed an extra glass from a nearby table. He dropped our salad off and walked away without giving us any silverware or napkins. I'm not sure if they automatically serve bread with apps but we had to ask for it. I asked for ice and we had to remind him about it when he came by our table without it. My boyfriend had to go inside to ask for another drink as the staff was hanging out inside the restaurant. There were no customers inside and a total of 3 tables seated on the patio. I overheard the table next to us, when the server brought out his cocktail and he said "Dude- I ordered this 20 minutes ago and now our desserts are here so I don't want it anymore." Not sure if it's just a bad day but even though the food was really good, the service was frustrating. Hopefully next time it's a much better experience. read more

Took a day trip into Santa Barbara and stopped here for lunch. It's a nice quaint spot in Carpinteria that had outdoor seating. . We had the chicken fettuccine, insalata pizza, and bruschetta. Every dish was fresh and very tasty! We finished our dishes without feeling overstuffed, but left very satisfied. . Owners were very down to earth and welcoming. We have heard good things about this establishment so we finally decided to try it out. Our friends had the chicken piccata and the pepperoni pizza, my wife had the wagyu sandwich, I had the lamb plate. Our friends said that their food was delicious and good, my wife said her sandwich was great and my lamb was excellent. The lamb is not on the menu- it was a special. Growing up in Santa Barbara, with regular trips down to So Cal, Santa Claus Lane off of Hwy 101 in Carpinteria was always a necessary stop for food and visits to the old Santa Claus Village area. Now with all the changes it's nice to have Thario's Kitchen there as a stop for good food either heading south during lunch time. Or dinner on the way back to SB. A little slice of Italy in Carpinteria! Service was excellent, the owner was our waiter for the evening and was great at answering questions about the menu and making sure everything was correct. I am gluten free and he was able to help guide me in what to order, any of the pastas can be made gluten free. The gamberi arrabbiata was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for, literally ate it with just a spoon. The primavera Rosa made with gluten free pasta was one of the best pasta dishes I have had, perfectly balanced and the pasta was al dente and the veggies fresh. Our newest find in Carpinteria! Nothing but great things to say about this restaurant right on Santa Claus Ln. We sat in their lovely outdoor patio under colorful red umbrellas, surrounded by beautiful plantings. We were with another couple and started with a Margherita pizza for the table and individual salads. I had the Gorgonzola salad of arugula, radicchio and candied pecans - yummy! For the main course I ordered their chicken piccata which was divine with a generous serving of chunks of chicken mixed into pasta and a wonderful lemon & white wine sauce. For dessert I had the Chocolate Bites of Belgian melted chocolate cake! Everything about Thario's was perfect - the service was attentive and friendly, the food was wonderful and the ambience of the patio was such a pleasure in which to enjoy a relaxing dinner with friends. No white tablecloths, no $200 tasting menus and no tuxedoed wait staff but a place that's warm, cozy and run by a devoted husband wife who bring heart to Tharios. Thais and Mario are super nice and make you feel like they've known you forever. As to the food, Mmmmmm terrific we have been there twice this week and our group have tried and shared quite a few dishes. Thais is a marvelous chef who prepares the best Appetizers including Bruschetta, the Torta Caprese and a special with super tasty fried Arancini rice balls all of which were remarkable. We enjoyed the Caprese and Gorgonzola salads both were very large, fresh and easy to share with 4 people. Over the two visits, we had Lasagna, Chicken Picatta, Risotto with asparagus, Gorgonzola Penne, Bolognese spaghetti and Garlic shrimp fettuccine, garlic cream sauce and finally, Desserts of Chocolate Bites and a fruit tart. Everyone said they would order the same things again. Should you decide to go, pull up the menu on line so you're can be drooling by the time you get there. Wow what a great find, a hidden gem for sure! The owners of the restaurant are lovely welcoming people (I believe the wife is the chef!), the atmosphere was on point, with inside and outside dining, and of course most importantly the food was all delicious. We ordered the spaghetti bolognese (perfect), felicita sandwich with added wagyu (mouthwatering), broulette meatball sandwich (delectable) and a special that had rice balls and beef which I can't remember the name of- but was unlike anything I've had before. 10/10 would recommend!! read more
