The food is great but the entire place is super sticky: floors, table, seats. Please do a better job of keeping this restaurant clean!

Over atmosphere was very nice and trendy. Food is cooked to order per your specifications. They have two other businesses that can be accessed within the same building. So if you prefer Pizza, burgers, and or ice cream it's all in house. Highly recommend this place, but would say some of the staff needs a tune up with how to handle customers as they aren't very curious but very dry. read more

For quite a while, where a bank once stood along Roosevelt road there have been signs and construction up touting a new location for the Glen Ellyn Oberweis Dairy store, a Connie's Pizza and something called "That Burger Joint". The first thing that popped through my mind when reading that name was "So it's a burger restaurant that's a spinoff of That 70s Show?". Driving by on Friday I noticed it's finally open and a few friends of mine and I decided to stop in and give it a try. The first thing to note is that it's directly connected to the Oberweis Dairy Store next to it. It's basically one open area where you can roam from one location to another. There's also signage for a Connie's Pizza, and an open unfinished space where I'm assuming it will eventually reside. When walking into That Burger Joint you'll notice a menu extremely similar to Five Guys. Lots of toppings for burgers, and lots of options. Immediately upon gazing at the menu board I noticed they have a hot dog, I decided to try both the hot dog and the burger. With the hot dog I got it as close as possible to a Chicago style dog in the interest of keeping it consistent with most of my other hot dog reviews. The hot dog I ordered had mustard, relish, onions, and tomato on it. The burger I ordered was with a pretzel bun and it was a double cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms, mayo, mustard, and lettuce. It took a few minutes for the food to be ready but once my order was out I was ready to dig in. I'm going to go over the hot dog first. The hot dog I received here came on a regular non-poppy seed bun. Due to the excessive application of relish the bun was almost soggy and barely stayed together while attempting to eat the hot dog. The hot dog inside was sliced up the middle so that all of the juices and flavors would escape in the heating process. This wasn't necessarily such a bad thing as the quality and taste of the sausage used here isn't particularly great and reminds me of a cheap grocery store hot dog. While this wasn't entirely designed to be a Chicago style hot dog and I can't quite hold it to the same standards I would if it were a place that used stock ingredients, I will say I was by no means impressed by the hot dog and you'd have to be smoking a "That Burger Joint" to enjoy this dog. Fortunately, the burger here was quite a bit better than the hot dog. The burger came on a nice pretzel roll. The roll itself was soft and stayed together without a problem. This was very important because the beef patties themselves were very greasy and sloppy and a lesser bun would have dissolved in the process. The beef itself tasted a little bland but had a good flavor, the other ingredients combined well and overall I was pretty impressed with the burger I ordered. That Burger Joint is yet another upscale casual dining burger eatery to pop up lately, I've reviewed so many of these places in the past year, but I'd say for burger quality this is among the best without having waiter/waitress service. The hot dog here is lousy and no one will ever refer to it as "That Hot Dog Joint". Overall, I'd say it's a decent place to go for a greasy burger, I'll give it three stars and rate it as an average eatery. read more

This was awful. After walking in it took 5 minutes for someone to even come to the register. They looked like they were high. Bloodshot eyes, intermittent laughing for no reason, and I had to repeat myself multiple times. Once I got the food and got home, the order was all wrong, and it was cold. I ordered a Jr. burger with pickles, onions, tomato and lettuce and BBQ sauce. The order taker didn't tell me if a pretzel roll was an option so I had it on their mediocre bun. (I would have had the pretzel roll had I known.) I also ordered small fries and a drink. I get that they cook their burgers fresh (not frozen) but the burger wasn't particularly flavorful. The BBQ sauce was just fair. The fries were very good though. Total cost = $9.20. At these prices I can only give 2 stars and will head to Meatheads instead. read more

This place wasn't that bad. And trust you me, you know when you've had bad. It was average, but so not worth my time. My fiancé and I were both confused about the ordering process, and we're "corrected" multiple times by the cashier and grill guy. To add to the confusion was the cashier, he was British and the terminology was a little off. The food was okay. We liked that the skin was left on the fries and that you could choose (up to two!!) additional seasonings, but it didn't taste like it had any salt to begin with. The patty of my cheeseburger was pretty good for being thin. The bun was average, and they forgot my cheese. When my fiancé went to mention this, they just slapped on what looked like a Kraft Single and called it done. No melting, no offering to redo it, nada. My fiancé's hot dog was average. The cashier didn't appear to know what was on a "traditional" dog or on a "Chicago Style" hot dog. This led to much disappointment. He (the cashier) kind of looked at us like "Huh?" When we said everything, he asked "Like everything, everything?" Thus causing us to list all of the individual ingredients that we wanted. They still forgot one of them. It was nice that Oberweis is right there and so is Connie's, but this wasn't a winner for us. While we were eating, we saw a customer slip on the wet floor, right in front of the cashier and grill guy. No one but my fiancé made an offer to help him up, or show any concern. Just an average place that is trying its spin on 5 Guys, but not as good. Place is new so operations are slow and chaotic. Burgers are average while the fries and chicken sandwich are sub par for the price. Not to mention they have no kids meal. If you want a better option, head to Meatheads which is less than a block up the street. Faster service, better food, and more family friendly...all for a comparable price. read more

Good, but not great. First off, this location is a bit chaotic, or at least it was on the Friday we were there. The seating is split between the Oberweis area, the Burger Joint area, and the not-yet-finished Connie's, and there was equipment (ladders, a random TV) lying around blocking some of the Burger Joint area. It's all laid out a bit awkwardly, too. But the food, this is what you really care about, right? The concept is very similar to Five Guys: your choice of burger (1 or 2 patties), chicken or hot dog; free toppings (plus bacon for $1); fries and shakes. I got a single-patty cheeseburger; husband got a double. The pretzel rolls were tasty, the toppings plentiful, the burgers were pretty well-cooked. We split a large fry. Small-but-significant flaw here: they only have American cheese. Come on, man. Oberweis is a freaking dairy. You gonna tell me they can't offer cheddar, swiss, pepper jack, something? American cheese is more like plastic than real cheese. The fries were hand-cut, fresh, needed a touch of salt (but they do have several seasoned salt shakers at the condiment stand, plus you can get free dipping sauce) and a large is not quite as big as a Five Guys large (this is both good and bad). With the plethora of burger places near us, this isn't going to be tops on my list, but if they added more cheese options and maybe a few more fancy toppings, I might give it another whirl... read more

Not happy! The burger was soggy and my wife had a hot dog that they grilled. It was cold and saturated with mustard. They only have american cheese and they have something called Pedal sauce? No explanation on the menu as to what it was. Seems like they made the orders one at a time. We had to wait for the fries to come out after our burgers. We were wondering why since there were only 8 people in the whole place including us and they all had their food. If you have a chance to observe how your food is prepared observe! Again, like others have said, very limited menu. My burger was like, INSANELY greasy. And the "petal" sauce was really bizzare tasting. Horseradish is supposed to clear out your sinuses. This had the main taste of horseradish but none of the heat. Utterly "meh". The fries were good. But all in all, a very "meh" experience. To rub salt in the wound, I had said to my husband "too bad there's not a meatheads around" when to find out , there's one across the freaking street. (Oh Siri, you fickle mistress!) The food was simply Not good. I went here for the first time for dinner craving a good burger. I expected a good experience based on how good sister brand Oberwies is. Everything on the menu is well overpriced. $7.00 for only a basic burger and no sides I was expecting a thick flavorful patty, I was wrong. No flavor, thin like a McDonald dollar hamburger and overall it was sloppy. Also ordered the loaded fires, which were so salty I could only eat a small portion then trashed the rest and a crispy chicken for my fiancé, which had a very weird sour taste to it. First time dining here. While they have quite a limited/small menu, the "That Cheeseburger" I ordered was one of the most delicious I have ever had. Chose the pretzel bun and had many great toppings on it. The fries were great, especially when dipped in their Petal Sauce. Perhaps it's still too new, but it's just not up to par yet. I went perhaps a month or two ago, and while the food was pretty good, it seemed like they were still ironing out some issues. First off, the burgers are pretty large and combined with a pretzel bun, makes for a decent meal. The fries were decent, nothing to rave about, and it did take a while (perhaps more an issue with being new -- saw them drop a burger and have to re-make which is good but creates slow downs). The soda machine was perpetually out of ice as well. Overall... it's okay, but not making it on to my list of regular places to visit. read more

Burger was tiny and smashed to hurry the cooking but pink inside, cheddar cheese unmelted and skip the overload of chopped lettuce - would work with a leaf. From the outside, "That Burger Joint" looked like a pretty cool place. When we walked in and saw it was connected to Oberweis, we thought what a cool concept! They have a very limited menu, which to me meant they should do everything well since they don't do a lot of items. We decided to get one junior burger, a small order of chicken fingers, fries, and a drink. We stood there for at least a minute while the couple of teenagers working goofed around before anyone came up to help us. The burger was pretty good, if we got more toppings it would have been better (my husband likes things plain), however i felt having only meat and cheese on the burger the bun was way too much bread. But hey, that was our own fault. Now not our fault - the chicken fingers. Thank god we ordered the smaller size. They tasted weirdly chewy and thick, not in a good way. We tried to pick at them to get our money's worth, however when I saw that the inside of one of the chicken fingers was still pink I dropped the piece from my hand and was done eating. Thankfully I stopped there, however I don't think it was soon enough because I got sick not long later. I would have brought up the chicken but considering the lack of interest in assisting us with placing our order, I didn't know what the teenage staff would even do about it. Have passed this place many times but never tried it. My mom had a taste for a blue cheese burger and since burger was part of the name we thought they'd probably have a nice, large selection. Wrong. No blue cheese and not really anything other than typical toppings. Service was friendly enough but s-l-o-w. When I went to pick up our order I asked for fresh hot fries, telling the staff that hot fries were the most important thing to my mom. They looked at me like I was nuts and took the cup of fries off of my tray and put another cup on there. Got to our table and it was obvious they were not fresh and hot, also mostly little pieces of french fries. They'd been sitting under a light for a while. This place was pretty great, I'm genuinely surprised by all the bad reviews. I'd say it's on par with five guy's. My husband likes five guys fries better but personally I liked these more since they were a lot more crisp. This would be a good place to bring kids/families as it's inside of an oberweis and apparently also has a woodfired pizza counter as well. So there's multiple things to choose from in one place. Also Oberweis milk is included as a refillable fountain beverage option which is nice for kids. read more

Driving thru town around 4 pm, ran across That Burger Joint. Heard about it, but hadn't been there so we decided to give it a try. First impression the place was very clean, that's always a great start. Unsure of what to have the very helpful and friendly staff suggested "That Chicken BLT Style" (I giggled a bit it just sounded funny) But thought, well we will try that. It came on a pretzel bun all the toppings of a BLT served with fries and they also suggested the petal sauce! OMG! It was the BOMB! The food was served fast, hot and fresh! My top three...cleanliness, friendliness, and freshness...this place nailed all three! We will definatly be stopping back there again! No. Don't go. If it wasn't for the donation to my son's school, we would've gone to meatheads or another burger place. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and after getting half way through it I noticed, it was raw. I'm still sick from it. When I took it back they offered to make me a burger?? I guess they are not really confident in their ability to fully cook a chicken sandwich. The girl took my name and told me to ask for a free chicken sandwich on my next visit. Really?? Only two stars?? I'm really surprised. Who doesn't like a burger joint, attached to both an ice cream shop and pizza place?! Well, I, for one, do! That Burger Joint reminded me of 5 Guys. You can add topping to your burger free of charge (expect for some select items like cheese and bacon). I added cheese, their custom petal sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled 'shrooms, and jalapeno peppers to a "that junior burger" which is a single patty. I'd say it's a sufficient size if you're moderately hungry, but if you're a starvin' marvin, just go with the double patty. You can also choose from a regular bun or a pretzel bun. I personally like the pretzel bun. I think really adds to the meal and fills you up too! Therefore, instead of purchasing a full order of more items, I split some fries and a milkshake with my dining buddy. Oh, interestingly enough, you can order food from any of the restaurants (Oberweis and Connie's) in the building at any one of the cash registers because they're all magically linked together! That saves trips to the different areas if you plan on ordering from any of the three. Overall, it was I thought good meal, but a tad on the pricey side. Also, on a non-food related note, I thought it was a bit drafty inside. But other than the chilliness and price tag, sure, I'd stop by there again if I'm in the area and craving a burger. read more

Why such a low rating? I'd compare the burger flavor to that of 5 guys. If you do not like five guys than I can understand, but I really loved my burger here. Fresh jalapeños when an option are always an essential to a 5 guys burger.. They also have the malt vinegar and the fries even taste the same. I'm very glad that I finally stopped here after moving to GE over a year ago. Before today it was only portillos for a quick and amazing burger for me. Now I have two options. This place is somewhat new to the area, in the old Chase bank building. Nice remodel, although the concept is not good. If I'm getting Oberweis ice cream, I don't want to smell burger and pizza or Italian food while I'm eating it. Same goes for the burgers. I had the burger and fries. So the burger is fine. Nothing special. Is good but... I just don't think it holds up because the customer service was terrible. We were told there were no grilled onions. They had onions and a grill...yet no grilled onions...ok...then we weren't given one of our orders of fries...when we asked for it, we were told we hadn't been charged for it. We had. We can't eat inside due to Covid regulations. So we ate in the car and then went back in to get three drink refills afterwards. I politely asked the manager on duty for three new cups knowing the protocol at other restaurants. He hesitated and looked put out and made a slight annoyed face like we shouldn't be asking and he had to make an exception. I said we ate our food in the car and are now thirsty. He gave them to us but I could tell he wasn't happy about it. Really?! If we were eating inside, it would be free refills. How much do 3cups cost, 5¢ each? Seriously, for a middle aged man I thought he would have had better common sense. I could see a teenager making this call not being so experienced in the ways of the world. I try to teach my kids good judgement at their jobs. Not everything is black and white. I did buy a shake after this happened but probably should not have in retrospect . Never really noticed this place before. Went to That Burger Joint as I was looking around for burgers for the wife and I. Very glad I stopped in. Ordered burgers and fries and chicken tenders. The burgers are huge and very fresh. The fries were really great, but be warned, the large is a great amount of food. We split the chicken tenders and these were some of the best I have had. Nice light breading and the honey mustard was great. Also the service was great and the restaurant was very clean. I will definitely be back! read more

This was my first visit to That Burger Joint (TBJ) in Glen Ellyn. I work in Glen Ellyn and I am always looking forward to trying new eating spots in town. There are many to choose from that I usually attend, i.e. Meatheads, Jersey Mikes, Chicks N Salsa. On 10-31-13, I choose TBJ to give it a try. I was very disappointed. I walked in and many of the employees were just hanging out behind the counter chitchatting and I was not greeted immediately. To be honest all of the employees looked like they were still hanging out at high school. At one point two of them chest bumped and laughed, and then another guy lifted one up from behind and attempted to crack his back directly in front of the register. Which really this is not a huge deal but I don't want to see this right before I eat and I would like to see a little more professionalism. I ordered a single patty burger with cheese and a regular fry to go. I requested grilled onions and mushrooms on the burger. While I waited for the burger to grill I watched the other employee get the bun and toppings ready. The slice of cheese was laid on the counter where it sat while my burger grilled. The grilled onions and mushrooms were removed from a container and placed on the bun with the rest of the cold toppings, it should be noted that I never saw any steam come from either container. I was surprised by this because when I go to Meatheads I have watched them grill the onions and mushrooms on the grill with the burger. I assumed the grilled onions and mushrooms would be good to go regardless and I hoped they would still taste fresh. I was expecting the fries to be fresh but I observed that the fries I was given was what had been sitting under the heat light from the moment I had arrived; again I was still hoping that they would taste fresh. The burger was finished, the slice of cheese put on shortly before it was removed from the grill, and wrapped up put in the bag with the generous helping of fries. I paid just under $9.00 for this Burger and fries. When I got back to work, approximately 4 minutes away, I sat down to eat. The burger patty was warm, but that was about it. The cheese wasn't even melted, the grilled onions and mushrooms were cold, and the bun broke apart on me. I tasted the fries and they tasted old and cold. All in all I was really disappointed with my order. If I wanted to eat a burger and fry this horrible I would have went to the McDonalds down the road and could have save myself a few bucks as well as gotten a drink. I did notice the employees that were behind the counter at TBJ also walked behind the counter at Oberweiss, which gives me the impression that the Connies Pizza and Oberweiss will all have bad service and food. Next time I will take my money over to Meatheads. The only positive is that I received a generous helping of fries, but being that the tasted old and cold this became a negative for me. I wanted to add an update. Shortly after posting the above review on their website I was contacted by the manager. They offered me a free redo on the lunch I had and when I went back in I had a much better experience. I appreciated the extra effort the manager went through to fix things. They still didn't fresh grill the onions as I preferred but I understood that to not be their practice. They are cooked earlier in the day and just kept warm. So I changed my score from one star to four. read more
