The food is incredibly fresh and delicious! The ricotta with honeycomb and thyme was a particular standout - very light and smooth with delicious duck prosciutto. Further, the crispy egg frissé salad with bacon was amazing and clearly highlighted the freshness of ingredients. Their charcuterie is made in house and was incredible - wish we were able to try more! Thought the only things that were more mundane were the sandwiches, although the portions were good there. Overall it's a bit on the pricier side but I think good value for the quality of food. Highly recommend if you're in the upstate New York area - Rhinebeck is also a very cute town! read more

Had an early dinner at the Amsterdam on a week night. The staff were friendly and warm throughout our dining experience. Everything was perfect. This is a quality restaurant, run very professionally with excellent food. The wild mushrooms with the poached egg were delicious. The charcuterie plate was phenomenal, especially the foie grass torchon. We had Salmon and Steak for main course and both were cooked perfectly medium rare. Even though we were seated outside and given the covid challenges, the service was impeccable from beginning to the end. We arrived for our noon Father's Day brunch reservations 10 minutes early and were seated promptly. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and was ready with suggestions when asked. I ordered a cappuccino and a Buttermilk Biscuit as a starter followed by the Goat Cheese Omlette as the main entrée. The biscuit arrived with the meal and it was delicious. Cutting into the omlette I knew something was wrong. It had mushrooms. It's no one's fault that I don't like mushrooms but it is. someone's fault that they weren't listed on the menu as one of the ingredients to the omlette (the other fillings, goat cheese and spinach, were listed). A huge turn-off to have one of those "love it or hate it" ingredients surprise you out of nowhere. The potato hash and the side salad were both fresh and my wife and daughter both loved their meals (the Eggs Benedict and French Toast with an apple topping, respectively). The Amsterdam is up there in price and the entire brunch for three people with no alcohol was over $60. Overall, the meal was good but the prices are at a premium and more attention to detail could have been taken. read more

Had brunch here today. Three of us had the fried chicken sandwich. I specifically asked the waitress if the meat was chicken breast; as she responded in the affirmative we proceeded with the order. I was very disappointed on my first bite to find that it was decidedly dark meat which none of us particularly enjoy. We finished the meal but I did tell the waitress that the sandwich was not breast meat; her response..."I guess they changed it" and she walked away. Not an appropriate response or attitude. The fourth member of our party had the eggs Benedict which he said were good. We also waited about 15 minutes for our initial cup of coffee, after being seated, without being told what was taking so long. Would not be my first choice with so many other Rhinebeck options that have satisfied. read more

The chorizo scramble sounded delicious, but was expecting a more traditional crumbled chorizo... this was closer to the texture of a sliced breakfast sausage and what seemed like maybe 1/2 a link at most. We were in the upstairs room on Christmas Eve. Zero ambiance and we were the only ones up there. Avoid getting stuck up there at all costs. Not as bad as booking diners on the screened in front porch in 9 degree temps with wind chill if 10 below with 2 inadequate heaters. Poor people were sitting out in coats, hats and gloves when there was an entire upstairs empty. The food was not good at all. I had the Bucatini and it had zero flavor and was over cooked and mushy. The entire meal was bad but the most ridiculous thing was the dessert. Which we were forced to order because it was a prix Fixe menu. The Beignets actually made us laugh out loud. We didn't want to tell the waitress, "just throw them out" so we had her box them and put them in the trash at home. Oh, the meal was $85.00 each. read more

Not the best in town. My meal was good however the service was abysmal. The waitresses we had were boring and just well not great. They are in desperate need of training asap. I have had better service at McDonalds. They had no idea how to even take a proper order, if we didnt say we wanted drinks we would not have gotten any because they did not bother to ask when taking our order. They dropped off my meal real quick before I could even ask for salt and pepper. My husband ordered a pastry for prior to the start of his meal and he got it with his meal which was French Toast, why would he want that with his French Toast? Another issue is the fly situation is really bad. We were attacked by flies our entire meal. They leave the back door wide open that goes out to the patio so that is how all the flies come in. We had several flies constantly landing on us, our food, it was disgusting and I do not have that issue in any other place we eat at. I could not wait to get out of there. Went here for brunch with a big group. The ambience is really nice, and great for a laid back lunch vibe. The food I thought was very average. The menu was really nice but the dishes sounded a bit better than they tasted. Starting with the free sliced wheat bread basket, not a favorite among the table. The pastry basket was much nicer. The goat cheese omelet was 3.5/5 stars, 2 eggs any style were 4/5 stars, Huevos Rancheros 3/5 stars, the chicken wings were way too sweet 1/5 stars, french toast too bready (is that possible?) 3/5 stars. Price for brunch $37/person and half the people had 1 drink, 3 apps for table, 1 entree a person. I think expensive, others though reasonable. 9 people total. The gazpacho was slightly too sweet, and the steak inedibly salty and came with a very flavor-forward arancini with blue cheese and olives(?). Duck entee was fine and the pork chop was fatty but flavorwise good and came with beans that were a hit. We didn't get dessert but the options looked tempting. This is some of the best food in the Hudson Valley with a crack service staff and a very inventive mixologist. Took my mother here for her 85th birthday, and we had a special evening (try and get the corner table near the bar if anyone has hearing issues). For openers, the charcuterie and cheese plate is just killer; everyone tried the pates which are so, so good. We also had the new Shishito peppers with the soy dipping sauce. But we really need to talk about the corn and cilantro gnocchi with the salty Mexican cheese. No words: so delicate and creamy, subtle flavors, an absolute dream. For the main, the duck breast is wonderful, done with cherries and a lovely side of couscous (with maybe shaved fennel?). Perfectly cooked, and enough to take home for lunch. Other favorites : OMG, the Korean fried chicken. So, so good, spicy, great flavor and the chicken tajine. LOVE! On the cocktail side, everything is wonderful, and my crew hit that cocktail menu hard. Peas and Love was a big surprise favorite; also, the Berrywood, a neat take on an Old Fashioned. Violet Hill Road, delicious for rum drinkers. Mezcal fans and also mezcal newbs will love the National Emergency. I was the DD, and adored the inventive list of no-alcohol cocktails. Definitely have yourself a Ginger Smack. On the wine side, the table enjoyed the Picpoul something-something from Langedoc with the charcuterie and had the Fruilano from Tuscany with dinner, both excellent. OH. MY. GOD. AMAZING!!! We had one of the most transcendent dinners of our lives here! First off, everybody who works here is so sweet- the hostess who greeted us, the bartender who mixed delicious drinks, and Fletch: the most charismatic, warm GM! Fletch immediately made us feel so seen and welcomed into the Amsterdam family; he, and the wonderful waiters, kept checking in with us and helped tailor our time at the restaurant so that each dish, and each drink, was perfection! Every single dish was scrumptious and gorgeous, the wine Fletch chose for us was unforgettable! (We gave him free reign to pick what he thought would pair best with our meal, and we are so glad we did!) The Amsterdam went above and beyond to accommodate my family of 10 and my fiance and I, on the days before our wedding, for a brunch. The food was amazing (the cheese and charcuterie are all locally sourced, smoked salmon is delicious and hot fried chicken is sophisticated and homey deliciousness wrapped in one dish), the cocktail menu is the best in town, if not in the upstate area (try the white negroni or the scotch old fashioned!), and the staff are incredible -- friendly, thoughtful, proactive and attentive. My mom is in a wheelchair and they did everything to make sure she was comfortable and taken care of throughout the lunch too. The ambiance is also cool and refreshing, and its a short walk to all of the best shops and streets in Rhinebeck. This is a Must Do and Must Come Back To for us when we're in the area. read more

After some really great dinners at Amsterdam, the last two times I've been were not good. Maybe a new chef? But overall everything not so good; food, cocktails, service, etc. Paid $45 for a duck breast entree that was bland and rubbery, hardly even mediocre level. Had a ricotta cheese app that said it came with brioche, in actuality it came with about 7 tiny brioche croutons, not nearly enough to scoop up and eat the ricotta. Croutons? Didn't work at all. Cocktails usually are great there, the ones we had were average and not impressive. And the cocktail I wanted they didn't even have. They had a tequila cocktail with corn, sounded interesting so I ordered. Was told they don't have it because they were out of the corn simple syrup. It was 7:30 on a Friday eve. How are you out of a menu item like corn simple syrup so early in the weekend. I believe it only has about 3 ingredients and can be pretty quickly. Won't be going back for a while. read more

We live here. Three drinks, with some special Tequila came to 60 bucks. Food was okay. Okay. The drinks were fine but at NYC prices. But that isn't the entire problem. The drinks are served in what I call dollhouse glasses. You know the kind. Suddenly your modestly proportioned hand looks the size of Michael Jordan's Four sips and there goes another Martini. The martini is like 13 bucks, but then there is some mystery surcharge of two bucks for I don't know, maybe for washing the glass between uses. So 15 bucks for half a drink. Do I feel stupid for going back? Yeah, I do. So I won't again. MARKET STREET and others in town ( Terrapin not included) use adult sized glasses. This group is opening a Chinese restaurant in town. I'll stop across the street, at Market Street, the restaurant, for a drink and then try them for dinner. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice... well you know the rest. read more

We were very excited to try this restaurant. Very disappointed. On a slow Sunday night, the restaurant was nearly empty. One would think the servers would be attentive to the table. No. Very slow service. It took 20 minutes to get a drink. Some of our drinks were sitting at the bar while our server was nowhere to be seen. It's like the servers were hanging in the back on a break while the few customers waited. And waited. The food was okay. The salmon was plain. The side of mushrooms had no flavor. Great service and great food. I went there for dinner on a Sunday night and had the duck and pork pate. Delicious! I also had the pork chop which came with kale and beans on the side as well as slices of peach. It was a full plate of delicious food. My husband had the sirloin and it was also very good but didn't come with as many veggies. We ordered the hazelnut Mille feuille and polished it off but it didn't have as many layers of puff pastry as I expected. We sat outside behind the restaurant and it was very nice and shaded. We hosted our rehearsal dinner and wedding welcome drinks at The Amsterdam. The staff and food exceeded all our expectations and they executed an absolutely stunning event enhanced by warm, attentive service and delicious food. Many of our guests said it was the most beautiful rehearsal dinner they had ever attended, and food, drink, and conversation were flowing all night! While the hors d'oeuvres and mains we ordered were all delicious, definitely leave room for the desserts--the truffles were phenomenal. We especially appreciated the GM Fletcher's fantastic planning, coordination, and communication with us and our event planner. He addressed questions promptly and always with a smile. We also had a somewhat complicated COVID testing protocol for guests when entering the event, and the staff at The Amsterdam handled it all with grace and ease so that it was seamless. I had the sea bass, which was perfectly portioned and cooked immaculately, and my girlfriend got the NY strip, which was expertly prepared and enough for her to take half home as leftovers. Spectacular service and food! My friend and I ventured down from Hudson this past weekend to check out the Amsterdam after reading some promising reviews... and it was well worth the trek! The space is gorgeous in a restored townhouse. The food is delicious and inventive. We shared the chicken liver pate (perfectly prepared and creamy) and the salmon crudo (fantastic with chopped beets on top) to start. I had the lobster over saffron risotto while my friend had the fried chicken. Both were exceptional. We had the cheese board to finish - a selection of local and unique cheeses - perfection. We started everything with cocktails (I had the Cherrywood - elegant), paired our mains with a bottle of cuvee', and finished with a glass of Anthill Farms Pinot Noir to go with our cheeses. We then piled into a taxi for the trip back to Hudson. However, what really sets the Amsterdam apart is the service. Our server (Emily) and sommelier (Fletcher) were knowledgeable, funny and provided just the best experience. The attention to service was really at a level that I've only seen at one to two other restaurants in the world (I'm thinking Rose's Luxury in DC). The suggested wine pairings were spot on, and samples were offered before we committed to the whole bottle. Instead of bringing boxed leftovers to your table, they provide you with a claim ticket so that you can claim them on your way out. Slick. Before we left and had to meet our car, they suggested we finish our last glass of wine on their back patio by their gorgeous fire pit (and set up a table for us to do so). LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! The Amsterdam was beautiful inside. Kind of that industrial, farmhouse feel. Staff was amazing. Loved our waitress and the manager was fantastic. The food was TO DIE FOR! We had the butternut squash soup (unreal), a cheese board, short ribs and the roasted chicken. It was all local, fresh and cooked to perfection. We had to catch a movie and had to run before having dessert. We loved the place so much we went back after to have the cookie ala mode and some cappuccinos! When we walked back in, they asked us how our movie was and gave us the dessert on the house! We were blown away by the gesture. After all, this place has a celebrity clientele as well. Food was okay but the portions make it very overpriced. This was the 3rd time trying the restaurant since they opened and each time we felt less welcome than the previous time. We had reservations for a party of three at 6:30pm on a Saturday and ate out on the lovely back patio. The servers were friendly if a bit inexperienced and it showed as they were clearly overwhelmed by the 20 top sitting behind us. We started with salads, spring and beet. Both were tasty if unremarkable and our enjoyment was tempered by the price of $11 and $14 respectively. This was followed by a 45 minute wait for our main courses as the kitchen scrambled to get all the mains out for the party of 20. Somewhere in that wait our waiter remembered that we had ordered food and apologized for the delay. He offered to get us bread, which we took him up on. 10 minutes later we were presented with 6 slices of bread as firm as hockey pucks and a pat of salted butter. For our mains we had ordered the roasted carrots and the sriracha honey wings, the fettuccine and the fried chicken. I ordered the chicken and was imagining a golden fried half chicken with potato salad, house-made coleslaw, and a big piece of cornbread. What I was presented with was five unrecognizable bits of chicken, fried to a dark brown, with no seasoning. For my sides I was given a single mouthful of grocery store potato salad (vinegar and mustard dressing), an oddly flavored and unremarkable hunk of cornbread, and thankfully only a half fork-full of the house made slaw which was red cabbage soaked in vinegar until dead. After the 45 minute wait hunger prevailed and I ate what was in front of me, but I fared better than some. The fettuccine consisted of overcooked pasta and clams, raw spinach, and cherry tomatoes, served tepid in a broth that was described to me as "nasty". That was left uneaten. The carrots were unremarkable but edible. The wings were good, but the portion is tiny and inconsistent, which was revealed to us when we had them rush a second order out to us. Frankly at this price point they should be ashamed. A $28 order of fried chicken should not fit comfortably in your pants pocket and should taste like ambrosia. A $21 order of pasta should at least be competently prepared. I'm not sure what is happening at The Amsterdam, but I would avoid it until they get their house in order. read more
