This new restaurant carried the green theme of the former Smith-Hawkens store and is both romantic and serves delicious foods and unique cuisine. I was intrigued by the smoked duck for two, so ordered it and was not disappointed. The smell of mesquite is wonderful, and served under a glass of smoke to get an extra aroma of the smoke. The waiter served us each a half duck, and the presentations was incredible. I would like to try more on the menu, but was not incredibly hungry, due to the heat of the day. If you're looking for a nice and elegant restaurant to entertain, this would be the place for Pasadena. There is validated parking at the rear, and a nice selection of wine and mixed drinks to choose from. The dessert menu was a bit limited, but I would certainly like to try it out the next time I'm here! read more

Tried the Arbour today. It was fine, but I failed to see the 4.5 average rating for it. Was the wine good? Yes. Was the ambience nice? Yes, ambient lighting was just the right amount. Hubby thought the salmon salad was good. Salmon creamy, paired well with the refreshing salad. I had the sea bass, which was good, but perhaps my palate cannot distinguish what is stellar. Sea bass was a little bland to me, but some people like that taste. Polenta was also a little bland. Finally, burgers were not seasoned enough to my sons' tastes. They also forgot to bring us lettuce, tomatoes, etc. for the burgers. Fries were great though. Bathrooms were clean. Service was a little slow to start, but once it got going, it was fine. The Arbour is my new favorite restaurant. Oh my goodness. I have gone twice, and both times Paige was my server. She is so kind, and she is so helpful as well. The mushroom soup is to die for, and the shrimp penne is definitely worth calling home about. Today I had the steak, and it was exquisite, however, I would definitely recommend the penne for first time goers. The restaurant is beautiful, and it's definitely a hidden gem in Pasadena. Meh. The Food was mediocore service wasnt that great either. I had the chili with the candle fat and waitor said it wasnt enough as a meal. The waiter kept pushing and said it was a small portion. I said ok I'll add if im hungry since I had a late snack wasnt that hungry. But he said food takes 40mins. Cuz its all fresh... Ummm I was in the UK, Ireland and Italy. Thats fresh Food! Didnt take that long to cook... I didnt care for how pushy he was and a bit of a snob with his presentation. Friend had the lobster pasta and it was a bit small for an entree but she had some bread and wine was just enough. But he pushed her to get an appetizer too and was relentless. The table next to use ordered the steak rare a $90 plate. Kitchen made it medium well and was a bit brown in the middle. They complained and the manager came and hunched over (his power move?) Idk... Told the gentlemwn it will take another 40mins to 1hr to do a new one. The gentleman asked why so long and his reply it's farm fresh. Lmao why does that matter? So an 1.5 after and we are wrapping up dinner and getting the bill their food still didn't come yet so when they asked the manage comes and says I told you it was gonna take a while we are busy. I looked and there were only 4 tables the 8 of us... Lol Heard the gentlemen say we just blew $300 on wine and unedible meat that took forever. I would say the common theme throughout my review of The Arbour is balance. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the atmosphere. The decor strikes a beautiful balance of contemporary, yet classic - modern, with a touch of the organic natural element. It is just a really nice, airy, clean vibe. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, without being overbearing. He was very personable, yet professional. He knew the menu and gently guided us to really good decisions - both in terms of the food and wine. The cocktails were masterfully crafted. The food mirrors the decor - elegant and simple, with beautiful presentation and attention to detail. We had artichoke salad and crudo appetizers. Both were light and flavorful - just enough to wake up the taste buds, without being overbearing. Out of the two - the crudo was my favorite. For the main course we had the clam pasta, which was apparently rated one of the best in the city. It was delicious. I assume they make their pasta because it had the perfect texture. The clams were perfectly cooked and the broth was so tasty! We also had the trout and peas. Delicious. The skin was crispy and the fish was tender. The peas were the ideal sweet compliment. And topped by a foam, mimicking the ocean and adding a subtle salty finish. Highly recommend both dishes for dinner. For dessert we had the baked Alaska and some sort of chocolate situation (picture attached). I'm not one for dessert - but I could not get enough of the baked Alaska. It was amazing - not too sweet. The restaurant is more than happy to make alterations to accommodate your needs. The pasta dishes are huge! Exceeded all expectations! From the time you walk in through walking out, Arbour is a great experience. The staff has been trained well and the executive chef has created a wonderful gastronomic menu. We started with Brut Rose as an aperitif and paired it with Oysters, Seafood Salad, Bison Steak Tartare, and Tagliatelle. For main entree, shared the Steelhead Trout paired with Whisk Sour and a Gin Martini. Ended the meal with their special flaming almond dessert. Forgot the name but its their signature dessert. Recommend making reservations. This restaurant is a contender for Pasadena Bests and possibly one of Los Angeles top 10. read more

Definitely my new absolute favorite restaurant in the 626. The service is superb and the food is amazing! The ambiance is great with beautiful wood accents. Everything they did/have there generally hit it out of the ball park for me. The plating (if you care about these things) is all unique and very visually pleasing. The little things that matter. Took my wife and her sisters out after seeing a play at the Pasadena Playhouse. Chose this place cause it was close by. Walked over past all the beautiful city trees decorated for Christmas. Ambience very nice and very clean and simple to look at. Out waitress was only a week into her new role and open and honest about it. First, food was great. Tasted all the dishes. Completely surprised at how good this apple salad was. OMG wonderful. Beet salad was so-so. Shredded Brussel sprout salad was so interesting I wasn't sure if I was enjoying but finished it all. Steak was cooked well, sea-bass was really good. Broccolini was bitter. One bad thing in a ton of food. Shrimp with pasta was good, felt like regular Alfredo but delicious. Dessert also very good. Heres the small things that made it 5 star. Waitress was new and I watched bus boys, waiters, bartender and host helping her out. Great team work. Next, I ordered a special drink from the bar and the bartender came over herself to serve it to me thanking ME for the opportunity to make a new drink for her to learn. The shrimp pasta had these jumbo shrimps, already cut into good sized pieces so every bite you get some with the pasta. Pasta must be made there because it truly has its own taste. The bus boy came over to fill waters and asked us how our meal was and would we like anything. Not just a pour and leave. The bus boy!! The skin on the fish was crispy and delicious. It made an already good sea-bass terrific. Cinnamon pumpkin pie was excellent but when there were a few candied pecans on top, it truly made it heavenly. I took my daughter on a dad-daughter date night and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had a difficult time trying to find a nice wine to pair with my dish. Our server (I hate that I can't recall her name) suggested a wine and brought a sample to compare with the wine I chose. I had to admit that her selection was better than mine. The restaurant became busier after 6pm (when parking is free) but it's popularity is understandable. It's like a gem that not everyone is aware of and there is a part of me that hopes it kinda stays that way for my own selfish reasons. read more

The Experience: Complements to the Chef! This was my first visit here to celebtrate my coworkers' birthdays. As soon as you walk in the ambience hits you as sophisticated yet rustic making you feel relaxed. One of my coworkers even made the comment that it felt "romantic". Once we were seated, everything ran very smoothly as the waitstaff were very attentive to the point where our water glasses were never empty. Once the food started coming out, we couldnt help but have to rave about all of the dishes that were served. The Food: The Bread Rolls - came out warm and fluffy with the butter which was topped with seasalt and thyme Spicy Beef Chili, Beef Fat Candle, Love, Toasted Ciabatta - this plate comes out with the beef fat candle lit sitting in the middle of the chili. Let the candle burn out.. take out the candle wick and mix in the love.. spread that loved chili onto the Toasted Ciabatta and perfection. It totally melts in your mouth. Left over chili was used to also adourn the rolls soo good. Chicken caesar salad, rosemary croutons, almonds, san joaquin gold cheese - the salad was perfectly dressed Fusilli pasta, fennel-basil pesto, fresno chili, san joaquin gold cheese - when you first look at the dish it looks really lightly dressed, but as soon as you bite into the pasta, your initial thought is changed to "Oh My Gosh! A delicious bomb just exploded into my mouth. You just want to keep wanting to eat more. Fried potato skin, bacon, sour cream, cheddar, green onions - taking a bite of the ptatoe skin was so good.. it made me feel like i was eating my beloved french fries with everything on it. Garlic crusted chicken breast, fingerling potatoes, green beans, onion cream - my main dish.. as soon as i cut into the chicken breast, it crucnches from the garlic breadcrumb crust. As sson as i took a bite, i was amazed at how moist the chicken breast was. I couldn't help but moan from deliciousness. Then i tried the fingerling potatoes and green beans which were tossed in a very creamy onion cream. As soon as i got the crunch of the greenbeans with the onion cream and the perfectly cooked creamy potatoes, I had to finish all of my veggies... i ended up eating all of my veggies and liked it! Thats an accomplishment in itself. Over all, my experience was an excelent one. I would definitely recommend coming here. Im already planning on visiting this restaurant again. read more

Honestly save your money. I got the popular spicy beef chili for $20 and wow. First of all look at the attached picture. Yup $20 gets you leftover scraps. Which brings me to my next point, the taste. Came in for a late night date night with the hubby last week and was pleasantly surprised by The Arbour. The restraunt is absolutely stunning I love the warm yet modern decor; and the service was excellent. The food was equally impressive: Bison Tartare - very nicely seasoned and prepared, it was not gamey or chewy and paired nicely with the chili stamp. I wasn't a big fan of the puff bread as it was pretty dense and didn't do anything to support the dish. The shallot ash also seemed a little irrelevant but I enjoyed the tartare on its own. Mushroom Cappuccino - this was extremely rich and delicious. Each spoonful was full of intense mushroom flavor. Seafood Salad - funny enough, I wanted some greens so my husband ordered a "salad" and there were no greens to be seen! Not a bad thing at all since most places with seafood salads give you a small amount of seafood. The entire plate was comprised of perfectly cooked crab, mussels and clams. There wasn't much dressing, but there also didn't need to be. The fresh seafood was delicious on its own. Steelhead Trout - this is one of the most beautifully cooked pieces of fish I have had in the area in quite a long time. The skin was crispy and the fish was moist. The lemon foam provided the right amount of acid to the dish and was very nicely balanced. Parking is available on the street or in back of the restraunt (past Pavilions). We had a dinner here around 6. It's my first visit at this restaurant, I do like the location and atmosphere. The place was pretty empty when we got there, only a couple tables were seated. I checked out the online menu in advance and wanted to try the octopus salad, but they don't have that anymore. Yep, the online menu isn't updated. The steelhead trout is not on the menu either. Between the 4 of us, we ordered a few appetizers and 3 entrees. For appetizers, we had the seafood salad, frog legs w/ garlic and butter sauce (special of the day), half dozen fresh oysters served on ice, and baby kale salad. For entrees, we had the Smoked duck breast for two, duck legs, crispy black rice, roasted turnip and cream spinach, sea bass, and clam linguine. The appetizers were ok, portion was small but with good presentation. The frog legs were tendered, but didn't have much flavor. The garlic and butter didn't do much to the frog legs. There were some edamame, and they tasted bland too. The seafood salad was fresh, and it had real crab meat! There were lumps of crab meat, and I could taste the sweetness of the crab. So thumb up for that. It wasn't overly seasoned or dressed. Salmon was only a couple tiny pieces. Oyster was really fresh, I could taste the sweetness of the oysters. They weren't too big, just perfect size. The citrus mignonette was on the side, adding that to the oysters made them tastier. This is my favorite appetizer. Baby kale salad was ok. I like the beet most. There was no dressing. If there was any, I couldn't taste any. As far as entrees, the portion really depends on what dish you order. The clam linguine's portion is bigger than the sea bass. Clam linguine was delicious. There were a lot of clams, which I really like. The ratio for clams and linguine was good, almost 1:1. Yep, this is the first time I see so many clams w/ linguine, usually other places just give you a few. The linguine was al dente also. There was enough sauce to keep the dish moist and tasty. I definitely will order this again. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The skin came out crunchy, and the fish was flaky and moist. However, the fennel was really rough, so was the asparagus. The chickpea cake was something new, I don't see that everyday. It tasted quite bland, didn't have much flavor. Now, it's the smoked duck breast w/ duck legs, crispy black rice, swiss chard, roasted turnip and greens. Definitely, the presentation of this dish really caught all the attention. The duck was covered in a dome of smoke. The duck breast was cooked really well, and had the smokiness. The skin had some saltiness and seasoning on it, it made the duck breast have more flavor. However, the duck legs were dry, and needed some sauce. The skin was crunchy. The Swiss chard or whatever greens were soaked in butter, it's like a mushy green pile, but not a puree. The amount of butter almost made me spit out the greens. It's horrible. The turnip was supposed to be roasted, but they were more like boiled. The black rice was interesting though, it's flavorful, crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. I like the black rice the most out of the whole dish other than the duck breast. Nothing special about their dessert. We had the rich chocolate mousse coffee cake and fresh blackberries w/ lemon custard and sunflower seeds brittle. Overall, this place isn't bad. Food is meh or ok depending on the dish. Service is great, and parking is definitely great. Environment is good. read more

I was desperately looking forward to trying this restaurant after I stumbled upon their yelp account under the "hot and new section" in the area. I would definitely suggest making a reservation first, not only because they are the new restaurant in town, but also because their food is genuinely to die for! We arrived promptly for our Saturday 6:30PM reservations; we were greeted and quickly ushered to our two top table. The interior is beautifully decorated with lots of warm woods, bright lights, and open bar& kitchen. Apps: Bison tartare - subtle and delicious take on a cold classic tartare, plated like art work with even black shallot ash to dust on each bite Oysters on the half shell - oysters were a bit on the smaller size, but they were quite sweet. What made it memorable were the tiny cucumber pearls and the scrumptious lemon sauce! Entrees: Sea bass - another stunning plate of food. The fish was deboned and pan fried whole, skin crispy& meat flakey. The fennel salad was simple and a great accompaniment to the fish Pork chop - I am always hesitant to order pork because the cookery tends to be overdone, but hands down THE BEST pork chop I have ever ordered in a restaurant. Not only was the pork grilled& glazed to perfection, but the creamy polenta with the rich sauce definitely made that dish. I adore the concept of this restaurant: farm to table cuisine; you can definitely feel that every dish they present you, each component has a purpose and place on the plate. Service: Each and every server we encounter was personable, accommodating, and well rehearsed in the menu knowledge. There was always someone there checking on us and clearing the table when needed. Every plate change, also came with a silverware change, which was so lovely and unexpected! Even when it came to bread and desserts, the pastry chef was the one who came around to chat with us and distribute the buns(the bread itself was crunchy on the outside and had a great chewiness and fluff on the inside / served with a generous smear of fresh butter - we asked for 3 orders of it cause they were that amazing) when we ordered our dessert, the pastry chef came to our table and wowed us once more with his flambé abilities and presented us with our baked California - the best way we could have ended the meal ! My husband and I went to this restaurant with our friends for the first time on Tuesday. We really enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere there. The complimentary garlic bread was so yummy. The food was very good. That was the best part of the evening. The hostess were very nice and respectful. The waiter we had was rude, arrogant and rushed us through our dinner. Tried more than once to give us a to go box for our dinners, even though we were still eating. Our cocktail were watered down and made incorrectly. We ask for a specific cocktail and apparently they were out of one of the ingredients. Instead of letting us know, they substituted the ingredient and made a completely different cocktail which we did not like. The Arbour is one of the few places in LA (especially at this price point) that is perfect in every respect - the staff is friendly, helpful, and professional; the drinks are strong and flavorful, but not too sweet; the ambiance is 10/10 with an open kitchen and a subtle yet luxurious feel; and last but definitely not least, the food is incredibly delicious. We've driven by this restaurant and area many times, not giving it a second thought. Friends wanted to try it so we decided to give it a try. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Not a huge menu but server was helpful in advice and knowledgeable about preparation. While deciding on our choices warm delicious rolls were served to us. We shared 2 Salads and an appetizer. We all chose 4 different entrees: roasted salmon, papadelle with pesto sauce, shrimp penne, and spaghetti with pink sauce. Entrees were brought to the table hot and very generous servings and were absolutely fantastic. Just enough sauce, lots of meat and shrimp in pastas. Looking forward to returning to try other items on menu. I'm sure we won't be disappointed. My wife visits this restaurant frequently and below was her most recent experience..... I love the restaurant, wait staff, food. Wait staff always makes me feel like I chose the right place to eat. The food is always suburb; top notch. But tonight, for the first time I felt insignificant, belittled. Our reservation wasn't on the books as expected. It should have been. The asst manager, Mike, made me feel like I was at fault because he didn't have my reservation on file. He was aggressive, and stern with me. I had a party of four. What am I to do? Luckily a few of the staff recognized me as a local patron, and I stayed with my party until they found us a table. I can't express how belittled and insignificant that asst manager made us feel.
