As the name implies, Auld Shebeen is a quaint Irish place with traditional pub food and a full bar, including a nice selection of beers on tap. It features comfort classics like fish and chips, shepherd's pie, cottage pie (theirs is the "chicken" equivalent of their "beef-based' shepherd's pie), Guinness stew, etc., but also has weekend specials like crab stuffed salmon and lobster bisque. They have started a "brunch with unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Mary" on Saturday and Sunday, which gives an alternative to the traditional menu. There are also American classics as well. Located in Old Town Fairfax, Auld Shebeen has two levels and is frequented by a pretty diverse crowd, including college kids from George Mason, locals, family groups, even the 55+ crowd. It's pretty welcoming and is the local watering hole that offers something for everyone. The cellar level is geared more towards the younger crowd and has DJs, Karaoke, etc. while the main level is more for the 30+ crowd. The pub features humble, cozy furnishings and decor on both levels (pictures of Irish rebels bolted to the walls) and hosts events in the main level as well (i.e. Tuesday Pub Quiz, Friday and Saturday live Irish music, Prime Rib Thursday). I am happy this restaurant and pub has stayed afloat during the pandemic and look forward to returning for some delicious fried cod and chips (too bad they don't have mushy peas as a side!) and a pint or two of the black stuff on draft! read more

We came to the Auld Shebeen for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. What drew us in was a) they offer reservations for larger parties and b) bottomless mimosas. The service was fantastic and prompt. For the bottomless mimosas, it's make-your-own where they bring a bottle of brut and a large glass of orange juice so you can make it to your liking. I got the heart Irish breakfast - I'd never tired black and white pudding aka sausage and it was so delicious and flavorful. The Auld Shebeen, you've always stared at me right in the eye whenever I pass you in Old Town Fairfax. This post is overdue but my boyfriend and I do plan on coming back here soon! We visited Auld Shebeen back in October and they do not shy away in Halloween decorations. We visited when it wasn't busy, so we were greeted right away from the server. I ordered The Auld Shebeen Chicken Club ($10.95) and my boyfriend ordered the Auld Shebeen Burger. The wait time was not too long and our waitress was nice. The Auld Shebeen Chicken Club tasted delicious! The club had the perfect amount of everything: lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions, chicken, and (don't forgot to mention) bacon! The next time we visit, I should try their Traditional Irish Pub Favorites. I'll be a lot more adventurous! Auld Shebeen looks to be a great place to have fun as well. Very quaint restaurant in Fairfax City. I love visiting in the winter when they have the fireplace going and live music. The menu has a large selection and everything that I've tried has been very good. I really like the Cottage Pie. The service is always pretty good. Wait staff is generally friendly and attentive. Went here for lunch with my kids before they embarked on a musical tour taking them to Dublin. Mick made us feel so comfortable and had our kids very excited to begin their journey. Met a friend here for drinks, dinner and four hours of talking. Our waitress seemed rushed to get our drink and dinner orders but after the plates were cleared, she was not as rushed for us to leave. We sat and talked and were not rushed. I had a Guinness and while it wasn't a *perfect* Guinness pour, it was four stars good. I miss watching a proper hand pull as I saw in Dublin, but an electric pump is still okay. It had the right creamy foam on top and it tasted like a good Guinness. Really, that's what matters. Monday night they have $9.99 specials on their traditional Irish fare. My friend went with the beef stew, which he said tasted excellent. I had the corned beef and cabbage. A decent though not huge portion of corned beef, more cabbage and mashed potatoes. We were brought a condiment dish with three different mustards in it - I like the stone ground sometimes and I like the Coleman's sometimes. Nice to have both! The beef was excellent, the cabbage was nicely al dente and the potatoes were quite creamy. Very good and I would have it again! Comfortable restaurant with a corner booth out of the way, but around 10:30 the loud party people started getting louder and it was time for us to leave. Came to visit this place over the weekend on Sunday and had a pretty good experience! Brunch menu was apparently limited but it was really only a few items that were missing! To start, the interior was decked out with awesome Halloween decor and we were greeting immediately with a very friendly host! Our server was very attentive and was able to accommodate all of our needs! I ended up getting the French toast and my husband got the steak and eggs! Everything was quite tasty! I was a little disappointed however when it did say the French toast was topped with berries but when the food came out, I literally got one strawberry haha... The reason I gave four stars is because the food and service was great but it was little things such as sticky salt and pepper shakers and the sound of the TV in the morning being a bit too loud. I stopped in early Saturday afternoon needing some lunch before finishing up some errands. I'd been meaning to stop here forever and am so glad I finally did. Upon entering you step into Ireland circa 1800. The cool ac, interior design and music really make you forget it's hot af outside and that you're in old town fairfax. It really set the stage for my time here. I sat at the bar area which had several TVs. They have a pretty extensive menu and I was eyeing the brisket sandwhich (which someone nearby got and seemed delighted with) but landed on steak and eggs and nutty Irish coffee. I came to The Auld Shebeen with my family to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We were able to reserve the entire side room, making it a more intimate gathering. Let me start by saying that service was top notch. We were a big group with a lot of requests and personalities and our waitress did an outstanding job. She kept her cool incredibly well amidst the chaos of orders we placed and, to my knowledge, got all the orders correct. We tried basically every appetizer on the menu and they were all delicious. Who doesn't enjoy great apps? The Auld Shebeen has a full bar and was able to accommodate most of our crazy cocktail requests, sans those requiring egg yolk. I also tried the Hot Toddy they had on special and really enjoyed it! For my entree I ordered the "seared" salmon. It was good but definitely not seared. I like my salmon medium rare and figured it would be if it was merely seared. However it was closer to a medium to medium well. It was over cooked and a little disappointing but the flavor was good. This was a great place to have a party due to the large selection of great appetizers and solid bar service. The entrees seemed a little lacking which is the main reason for the four stars. Decided to look for an Irish pub while visiting Fairfax area. We found this place highly recommended. Upon walking in - it was gorgeous. Rich color interior and beautiful furniture lines the restaurant. We headed straight for the bar. This was the first Irish pub I had ever been to that wasn't playing Irish music. It was very quiet and stuffy. The bartender - Bobby Sox was adorable and accommodating. We placed our order for -Jameson Lemonade and my friend had Bobby concoct a mule that was a little different. Out of all the meats out there, the marinated beef is the leading protein teammate for the sauce. Due to the slow cooking process, you can throw away the knife. Got some amazing bartenders! Working so close to this bar, I frequent it all the time!!! They have a sign that says, "please wait to be seated". Since I sit at the bar all the time, I just walk and sit there. I feel like they don't mind and if that is the policy, they may want to change the sign to, 'please wait to be seated if not dining at the bar. It's no issue. it's just i know one of my friends left because no one came to seat her and she didn't think she could seat herself at the bar. I know I always try and walk up to the bar and I know I've seen many groups do it. Richie is a great bartender and he's there so often! There's another bartender who's there but I can't remember his first name for the life of me! His last name is Diamond.. Such a cool last name.
