I am so glad these folks have patience for people like me. I had an accident a couple weeks prior and had purchased the previous car from this dealership with a decent interest rate. It was a decent experience then, but it was an excellent experience now. We even used their service department and never had an issue. We initially were going to buy at a dealership closer to our new home, but they just couldn't match up to what we were looking for and it felt icky. So we went back to Evanston. The lot at the dealership itself is a bit small and doesn't hold all of the cars in inventory. So as we were looking for the perfect vehicle, we realized that the right cars were at their other lot behind Target. So we had them find the 3 we were considering and pull them out for us to check out. The one we went there for missed a few boxes on our wish list, but the new soul red CX70 with the moonroof was exactly what we were after. Lastly, was the financing, we actually went in expecting to buy at 4.9 percent and they ended up financing at 1.9 percent. That value is really hard to find! They force a $250 'inspection' of your vehicle before you can even get to why you're there for a specific repair, oh and you get a video! Yea!! So if you have a brake problem they do a supposedly entire car inspection to upsell you on tires, brakes, filters, fluids etc. All that time should be spent on working on the reason you brought your vehicle in the first place!! I been a loyal Mazda driver since 2014. So Almost a decade after switching from Nissan. This was my first visit to this location. Unfortunately my check engine light came on my suv Cx-5. I am convinced Chicago potholes loosened up something as the car only has 21k miles. I tried really hard to get into McGrath Mazda but they were having phone issues. I previously had vehicle served there since I live in the city. To no avail, I was easily booked into Evanston Mazda. Definitely worth the drive as their lobby is nice and comfortable for the service department. Oscar was my service manager and he was really informative. Ultimately, my car needed an update to the computer. At first I was irritated because, they were going to charge some crazy price ($180) for diagnostic and update. I just don't think Mazda or it's dealerships should charge for an update when I did nothing wrong. My vehicle has been serviced by Mazda from the beginning in AZ and IL, so how is an update on a relatively new car my issue. Especially when I been paying for Dealership Oil changes. Anyway it was good because I was able to get an emissions warranty and that handled the fix. During my visit, I got my brakes fluid flushed, oil change and windshield wipers updated. So glad my vehicle is working but still nervous on the computer update dependency. Miss the old days when cars were cars and I could easily fix items. All these cars, whether electric or not are big computers. Ugh As to the service. You get a video showing the full inspection so that was dope. It made it easy to send to my husband while he was working to help me determine what to spend money on and what he could do at home. Would come back for future service over McGrath because McGrath is renovating and their phones don't work. Also lobby made it easier for me to still work. Be aware that no food nearby, so will need to eat before, door dash or use complimentary shuttle to grab lunch. This is probably the happiest review I ever wrote. I'm going to start by saying that Mr. Bradley Spiehler, operations manager, restored my faith in humanity, for a while, by literally going above and beyond, and doing everything in his power to make us happy and to meet all our needs. We purchased a Mazda today, from Autobarn Mazda of Evanston, and they really blew my mind. We all know how we are at least a little skeptical when we walk into a dealership, right? Well, with Autobarn Mazda of Evanston it's not the case. From the first day we stepped in (the process of us getting a car took about 2 weeks), we were treated like friends, or even more, like family. Our sales consultant, Mr. Ivan Saez, was very patient with us, from day one until the end, explained us all our options very well, responding promptly to all questions. Same, always responded promptly if we had questions via text messages or phone calls. He patiently went back and forth between us and his manager, working on getting us the deal was suitable for us. Once we got the deal we wanted, we were introduced to Mr. Jonathan Danial, the finance manager. Mr. Jonathan, didn't just throw numbers at us, but instead he was also very patient and let us take all the time we needed without rushing us, to make sure we understand exactly how everything works, explaining us very clearly, every option and advising us on what was the best options for us. I'm going to mention Mr. Bradley again, because he was on top of all this experience, calling us, responding super fast to our text messages and phone calls, making sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. A few weeks ago, I purchased a vehicle from the Mazda dealership in Evanston. During the purchase, I was pressured into buying an additional service, LoJack, for $500 despite initially declining it multiple times. What followed was one of the most disorganized and unprofessional customer service experiences I have ever had. The day after purchasing the car, I attempted to set up my LoJack account, but it did not work. Over the next several days, the app repeatedly stated that my vehicle could not be found and instructed me to contact the dealership. When I finally did, the first employee I spoke with could not even locate my account and stated that the service must not have been properly set up at the time of sale by my salesperson. I was told the salesperson would contact me. When the salesperson, Daler, reached out, there was no explanation or apology. Instead, I was casually told that I needed to come back to the dealership to "update" my equipment. I had just purchased the car the week prior and live 40 minutes away. I asked why this was necessary and was given no clear explanation, nor was there any acknowledgment of the inconvenience. I then asked to speak with a manager, which only escalated the issue. There was still no apology for the fact that a service I paid for was not working. The manager, Anthony, claimed that I likely failed to activate my account within a required timeframe and therefore needed to bring the vehicle back in. I explained that I attempted to activate the account the very next day. He had no response other than repeating that I would need to return to the dealership. Because of this, I scheduled an appointment with the service department and took time off work to address the issue. After waiting approximately an hour and a half, I was told that the LoJack equipment installed in my vehicle had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. After the replacement, the service still did not work. The service department did not know how to proceed, so I contacted LoJack directly. LoJack customer service explained that when new equipment is installed, it must be re-registered under the customer's name by the dealership. When I relayed this information to the Mazda service department, I was told that nothing further could be done and that I would need to drive to another dealership an additional 15 minutes away. This was especially frustrating because during the sales process, the dealership had no issue coordinating and driving between facilities to complete the sale. Once the purchase was finalized, that coordination and accountability disappeared, leaving me to navigate their internal disorganization on my own. After driving to the second location, the employee simply looked at the serial number in my car, something that could have easily been communicated over the phone. This unnecessary back and forth wasted hours of my time and required me to take time away from work for an issue that stemmed entirely from the dealership's errors. While waiting to speak with a manager, my original salesperson made eye contact with me in the waiting area but did not approach me or acknowledge the situation. Given that he was aware of the issue and had recently completed the sale, this lack of engagement and follow-through was unprofessional. When I later spoke to Anthony in person, he denied suggesting the issue was my fault and claimed I misunderstood him. Although he acknowledged the situation was mishandled, he never apologized. I was then told that the person responsible for managing LoJack accounts was unavailable and that I would need to wait several more days for access. I was told that if the service still did not work, I would be refunded, as if this were a favor, despite the fact that I had already paid for a product that never functioned. When I asked Anthony for Mazda's corporate contact information, he said someone would email it to me, stating this in a way that made it seem beneath him to provide it directly despite being feet away from a computer. I have yet to receive that information. Immediately after leaving the dealership and getting into my car, I observed several employees, including the manager, gather in a visible office area and engage in laughter and conversation while looking in my direction, which further reinforced the lack of professionalism and seriousness with which my concerns were handled. The core issue here is accountability. If a dealership aggressively pushes an add-on service, staff and management should understand how that service works and be prepared to support it. Instead, I was blamed for their mistakes, passed between departments and locations, and treated as an inconvenience once the sale was complete. This experience reflects a lack of leadership, consistency, and customer care. Mazda should review this dealership's management practices to prevent this from happening to others. I would strongly caution against doing business with this specific dealership. read more

Worst Service I have ever had. Dropped off my car for a scheduled appointment at 2 on Friday for a seasonal check and to address two warning lights ( tire and check engine). Didn't hear from them all day. Left three messages still didn't hear from them. The car was supposed to be done that day, But I don't know if they were working on it or what, just silence Called them Saturday at 9:30. My tech was unavailable, but someone said it was being looked at and I should wait for a text. A little after 11 I got a text saying I need a new tires and The engine warning light did not seem to be a worry I should just monitor it. $200 for the inspection and they said I need a belt replaced for 150. Had them do the work they recommended and Picked up my car about 2:30 to take it somewhere for tires. when I got I. The car I noticed the light was on saying service needed. Spoke to the tech and he said that means I need oil. I asked if they checked oil and the other fluids and they said I could leave the car till Monday and they would take a look. What the hell was my appointment for and the $200 inspection fee for. Now I have to take the car someplace else to get a real check to see what's needed, if anything. I don't know if these guys know anything about Cars or not, but they certainly know nothing about service. I'll be taking my two Mazda someplace else. read more

Its funny how much different reivews on yelp are than Google, really makes you wonder which displays the more accurate representation of the dealership. I found a car and was ready to buy, i had my own financing and a trade in. I had been to a few dealers so i knew my trade in value and was right in line with KBB. Johnathan was nice dude but once we got down to set up purchase it all went downhill.First they undervalued my trade by $2,500 less than Carmax, Mercedes dealership and KBB. This is a tactic many of worse kind dealerships use, they will bring it up to right price as part of the negotiation. They also added 6k worth of warranties, i denied them all. I still planned to buy, basically they give me bill sale copy, i send to lender, lender overnights check i come get car. They so pushy to get me car that day, they wanted me to take out a loan to cover the 2 business days. Lets just say i did not trust them, dealerships get major incentives to get do financing including finder fees/kickbacks. If not for too cool for school Darius Shams i probably would have got a car with them but the way he tries to talk you in circle and act like i just dont understand, if i did, i would totally do everything a car dealer tells me as who can be more trust worthy. He would not let me keep paper with the numbers ,said price could go up in a few days when i come back. Did that shady thing were they make you sign your name if they agree to take away packages that you will for sure buy the car like you will feel some obligation to no longer question things or back out if it doesn't feel right. I know this is "family-owned yadda yadda" but that doesn't matter, it matters how it's managed and if it's managed like a pushy/sketch dealership then that is what it becomes no better than a Jidd motors or Old Orchard Nissan. I got myself a Mercedes at a Naperville dealership and it was smooth as could be. No games, they offered KBB, they fine with outside financing, and fine with me not getting extra warranties. When I bought a used car from them, they added $4200 to the purchase price -- nearly 25% of the car's actual cost. When I informed the General Manager, Dan Drescher, he flat out admitted to me they added unauthorized charges then refused to rectify it. In what business can you steal $4200 from someone then try to "block them over email"? Other reviews say the company added "an extra $5k onto our contract." Assuming they do this to at least one customer/contract a day, they're banking $150K a month and $1.8 million a year in totally made up charges. And, individually, making personal commissions on fraudulently inflated prices. A total scam. BAD NEWS & BAD BUSINESS FOR EVANSTON. ------- The business owner's response below is just... all lies. I was never offered products and never agreed to buy them -- the price of the car on the contract was $1400 above what I negotiated with a salesman, Jeff Williams. The fraudulent contract was drafted days before the purchase -- so all premeditated and intentional deception. I do have buyers remorse, I guess, only in that I dealt with such worthless people. I inquired about a car and Anthony Guerrero emailed me "Car is sold unfortunately, and the way these new tariffs are being pushed on April 2 most cars are going too move up on price". Anyway I didn't let this tariff talk pressure me or get to me but it's obvious Anthony Guerrero was using the sad sales tactic. Luckily I am in no rush to obtain a vehicle. DON'T BUY A USED CAR FROM THIS DEALER! In August 2016, I purchased a car AS-IS no warranty from this dealer under the impression that the CarFax was clean and the dealer did a "certified" inspection but it was all a lie. Within a month of owning the vehicle (for which I paid cash for $4K plus a few hundred), the car started acting funny (de-accelerating on the highway, engine sputtering, engine light flashing, etc...) whenever I put gas into it. At first, I thought I was using the wrong gas, so I contacted a Mazda dealer closer to where I lived. They verified I was using the right gas and after describing the issues over the phone, I was told it could either be A) water in the fuel I'm using or, worst case, B) a valve malfunction. I did not have the money to pay for either an inspection or service repair. In mid-September, I scheduled an inspection through the site "Your Mechanic" because it was cheap. I was told that I needed an Intake Manifold Valve Repair. This is what I consider the turning point in owning this vehicle. The mechanic who checked out the car swore the problems it was having should've been present when Mazda sold it to me and that the "clean bill of health Car-Fax" was total B.S.! After hearing this news, I contacted the dealer explaining what was happening and they ghosted me. None of the original guys who sold me the car would talk to me and I was referred to a guy who claimed he was new and it was his first week there (allegedly). He stated because I bought the car AS-IS no warranty there was nothing the dealer could do to help. Their way of placating me was sending over the vehicle record. This record was more detailed and had I seen this record when I bought the car, I would've NEVER purchased this car to begin with. "Your Mechanic" stood me up twice for appointments to fix the issue in October. Mind you, during this time the car was barely drive-able as it kept stalling after putting in gas and even shut off completely while sitting at a red light! By November, I gave up on Your Mechanic and contacted Chicago Driveline to fix my car. They fixed the Intake Manifold Valve and replaced the Ignition Coil. According to one of the mechanics, the state of the valve and the coils looked as if they had been in a car with over 100,000 miles, yet my car only had about 53,000 at the time. For this fix, the price including the inspection fee was $608.54. Flash forward to December 29, 2016, the fix by Driveline was only been part of the problem because the engine light is on and it de-accelerates on the highway (which is ironic since I commute from the suburbs to the city for work). Added, it takes a good 10-15 minutes for the car to start in cold and cool weather because the engine freezes. I am basically in a hole financially as I needed this car to get to and from school and work. Now I have it sitting unless I have absolutely no choice but to drive it as I have no other means to travel. I regret doing business with this dealer as they make Mazda look bad. I went into this dealership expecting honesty and good service, what I got I could have received from a no-name dealer flipping junk cars. barely, P.S. To be honest with all the issues my car is having I'm wondering if the darn thing is a FLOOD VEHICLE. That was not listed on the CarFAX nor the so-called Mazda inspection. Again, sooooooo disappointed. UPDATE After this review in December 2016 the engine died completely. The car was in the shop for months as there was no way I could get it repaired. SHAME ON YOU MAZDA EVANSTON!!!!!! P.P.S. I replaced the engine (with another Mazda 6 engine) and the car lasted for 6 more months before dying again. I am convinced Mazda makes crap engines so switched brands. BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

I filed an FTC complaint against this dealership. Any listing you see for a used car isn't even close to the true price. I'll explain: They advertised a used CX-5 for $27,395. I went in, test drove it and offered to pay that advertised price plus any legitimate fees. That's when they came back with a price sheet that had a $2500 CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) fee on it. It basically amounts to a $2500 12 month warrantee. I told them that should have been included in their advertised price, and to take it off. The salesman went to talk to the General Sales Manager, Lou Floros. He came back and said that Lou was willing to strike the CPO fee but that the other fees were non-negotiable. I said that was fine and let's do the deal at the agreed upon price minus that CPO fee. The salesman disappeared for quite a long time, then came back and said Lou wanted to come out and talk to me. Then I waited, and waited, and waited. The salesman came back out and said Lou wasn't coming back after all but they had another interested buyer and that I would have to pay $2000 over what we had agreed to if I wanted the car. I refused and told the salesman that this was deceptive and that I'd be filing an FTC complaint. Then Lou came out, said I "didn't have to do that" but wasn't willing to do anything to make me whole (like give me the car at the price they advertised). Stay away from this dealership, or at the very least don't go in until you have an out the door price in writing. read more

I've been back 6 times for repairs but they will only restitch the seams. Why is the leather wearing off in the middle of a rear seat that's never been used? And coming undone by the doors, too. This place does NOT stand by their products. They should be SO embarrassed by my car. Worst used car experience ever (and we are not inexperienced nor unsophisticated car buyers). Found a car, contacted the dealer online, made an in-person appointment and showed up 5 mins early (after texting and emailing confirming appt time while fighting Friday traffic). Arrived and walked into a less than welcoming and enthusiastic women at the check-in desk who then asked for us to speak with a different salesperson than the sales mgr with whom we had arraigned the appointment (okay, but maybe not a good 1st sign). Despite an almost empty customer showroom this guy says he'll get a message to "Jeff" that we are here. 10 mins later (after watching most of the salesmen crowding around a screen in one of the offices watching you tube or something), this same guy shuffles out to says that "um, the car isn't here because it's in the shop...getting new tires. You can't drive it, but you can look at it"....are you f'ing kidding me?? Abysmal customer service and a complete waste of time. Saying "you understand" over and over again when asked (respectfully) how this happened means zero. Unprofessional and ultimately untrustworthy. read more

The DMV was closed, and I couldn't get in for a last minute pelvic exam: I figured I'd go dick around at the car dealership. As soon as I walk in the door, Kam just starts flinging deals my way. It was like, green card's up at the Brazilian steakhouse, only you can't keep up, the meat is piling to the ceiling, and the servers hate the owner. DO NOT take your car here for service. Would give 0 stars if possible. They have had my car for a month and give me a different story every time I call. I've asked to speak to the manager--they tell me he's not in or hang up on me. I've never experienced such terrible customer service. I feel totally helpless to get anyone to help me and they just do not care about unhappy customers. Will never buy another Mazda, will never go her Update: they kept my car for 7 weeks. I had to get a corporate representative from Mazda involved to get any return calls back on the status of my car. Finally he got so frustrated he told me to get it towed out of there and go somewhere else--this is a Mazda employee! This dealership is shady, stay away. When we bought our car, it was very difficult to get a clear price with a lot of hand waving telling us the price depended on financing. We just wanted to buy a CX5, why should we be pushed to finance to get a better price? It was a huge waste of time to take out a loan we immediately paid off just to get best price. We let the bad buying experience go, and continued to service our car at Autobarn. That is over after today. My husband usually takes our car in for service, and he admitted he didn't review the bill closely. Today I went to pick up our CX5 after having purchased new tires. When I reviewed the bill, I noticed a charge for $2.98 for digital document storage. I asked what the charge was all about and why it was so much (the receipt is only a couple pages)? I was told it is on all bills and they can't remove it. I refused to pay it, so they had to reduce the cost of my wheel alignment to reduce the total bill. I have called multiple area Mazda dealers, and none of them charge a document storage fee. This is clearly something being done by the owner and/or management at Autobarn and feels like a slush fund to me. Shame on you for putting hidden costs in your bills! While our service representative Oscar is amazing, and the work done was top notch, I am not interested in being a customer of a business that has such deceptive practices. read more

Throughout the process, he offered a very relaxed demeanor, answered each of my questions with clarity and helped me evaluate the factors that were important to me. Ivan helped me secure the price point I needed, and his quality of service and friendliness extended beyond the sales floor. On three, separate occasions after purchase, Ivan helped me get a hold of parts, helped with scheduling and directed me on the right timing to book some non-essential service on the car. He was phenomenal. Lewis was equally great to work with. He helped lock in my financing and complete my paperwork, even staying well past close to ensure I did not need to return. He meticulousness walked me through all aspects of financing and guided me with helpful recommendations on how best to preserve the longevity of my purchase. Welcome to the car purchasing experience of the 21st Century! This was my second attempt to purchase my first car, one being unsuccessful about 3 years ago. In the past, I've had the whole regular dealership experience where the whole time you are there, the only thing you want is to run out and go home, it is so aggravating to deal with car salespeople. Well, I am happy to report, not this time! The whole experience with The Autobarn Mazda - Evanston has been delightful from beginning to end. Like many others, my starting point was True Car, which allowed me to compare a few dealerships. I already knew the initial feeling of being attacked all at once by multiple phone calls. However, I only received an (I assume automated) email from Mo (Mohammed Yazdani) offering to help. That was the start of a civil conversation where I was asking questions and getting the answers I wanted. The whole process was transparent, easy, and respectful. I was sent most of the documentation via email for review before getting to the dealership for the delivery. The day I picked up the car, again, all unfolded very easily and even the usual and expected offer of additional coverage - I get it, dealerships are not charity and they sell you things to make a profit - which I politely refused, was done in a friendly and relaxed way. All in all, I highly recommend The Autobarn Mazda - Evanston. Not only I had the best deal among the dealerships I dealt with, but I was also treated with dignity and respect: excellent experience! I brough my car to this location in 2023 for some recall work. The calipers had to be replaced along with one or two other items. September 2024 my car started making some odd noises so I brought my car into a local place where I've taken my car before. They conducted a full review of my car and called and asked if my calipers had been replaced recently. I said I would have to check but that I knew I had brought it in to a dealership in 2023 for recall work. The gentlemen told me that my calipers were locking up. He asked if I wanted to take it to the dealership to have it looked at or if I wanted them to fix. After calling the Mazda service center and confirming that my calipers were fixed by them I decided that Mazda should take a look at it again. I brough it in to Mazda and they had it for a few hours and called and told me my calipers were fine. I picked up the car and I was charged $199 for them to do nothing but look at the car. It's important to note that my local autobody shop spent a lot more time with my car and didn't charge me anything. When I tried to dispute the charge with Mazda while I was there they told me their running a business and need to charge me because they conducted diagnostic work. I picked up my car and brought the car back to my local dealership for them to take a look at it again, because I was concerned about the calipers. My local autobody shop looked at my car again and called me and asked what Mazda did. I said nothing that they just looked at it and told me the calipers were fine. My local autobody shop said that the calipers that were in the car now, were not the same ones that were in the car when they looked at it two days earlier. They said that the calipers were new. The takeaway here is that I won't be bringing my car back to this location for any work. I don't trust the people working there and I certainly think it's bad practice to charge someone in a situation like this. read more

After being insulted and lied to repeatedly, we finally walked out. This could have been an easy sale for them but they wasted our time and lost our trust. Old school pressure sales at their absolute worst. I bought a Mazda here 5 years ago and was really satisfied. They seem to have lost their souls over there. I will never go back. We have gone to another dealer and have an agreement on the car we wanted from the beginning for 2 grand less than we were offered at Autobarn. read more

Recently went in to test drive a used Hyundai Santa Fe. After the drive went mostly well the salesman drafted up a contract and had it prepared for signing. We needed to know what the squeaking sound was coming from the suspension. He told us "I think that's actually the trunk" as if any trunk squeaks. He proceeded to tell us that it has passed the safety inspection and they cannot sell cars that are unsafe or unfit for purchase. But he could not answer our question about the squeaking suspension. After we insisted he found out, the salesman disappeared for an hour and returned with his manager to put on his puppy dog eyes and say "actually this car is not in any condition to sell after all. We will need to wholesale it for parts, but I am prepared to offer you a $1,000 discount on this other car" which was $2,000 more expensive than the one we were looking to buy). This place has clueless, scummy salesmen that are only looking to make a buck. I don't recommend you give them your business, unless you want to risk being scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars for an actual lemon. read more

I had a terrible experience in this dealership last weekend. I had called around 2 PM to ask if I can come over to test drive CX-5. But when we got there, the agent was outright rude (with comments such as "you need to know which car you are buying before we can help"..hello, most mere mortals need to try a few BEFORE they can decide on the car). And he did not allow us to test drive any and told us he doesn't have time! We were made to feel stupid for not knowing about cars! Well, I don't claim to be an expert in cars because knowing about cars is NONE of my business. Both my wife and I are sufficiently accomplished in our field of expertise. I think I should try the other mazda dealers, who sounded more polite and welcoming. And Btw, we don't need any loan or lease, so I am a customer who was ready to put down all cash purchase and they still treated us badly. read more

One of the worst experiences in service I've had. It's expected that they'll discover new things wrong and upsell you on repairs, and there's a level of trust that you have to give to mechanics that they're doing the right thing. It's very suspicious when you drop off a 4 year old car for a routine maintenance then after completing that maintenance, call you to tell you it's no longer starting "coincidentally" and completely unrelated to the work they were doing. Of course they make you pay hundreds more so it's driveable off the lot. In the end, for the $1500 extra over their initial quote they offer you a $25 dollar reimbursement for the delay. Look I get there are unplanned issues they discover. But to drop it off working, have it break in the shop and then charge you for that malfunction seems fishy. read more
