I brought my BMW to Fields BMW Northfield on January 15, 2026 for a recall. The car was running perfectly fine -- no noises, no issues. During the recall, they broke a VANOS bolt and had to remove the oil pan. While the engine was open, I agreed to replace the eccentric shaft sensor and paid ~$700. From there, the experience went downhill. They claimed my axle threads were damaged and quoted me $1,800 -- despite zero prior symptoms. After I pushed back and contacted BMW NA, they suddenly "fixed" it at no cost. Then I was told the car was ready. Within minutes of picking it up -- still on dealership property -- the engine developed a loud, aggressive rattle. I immediately returned it. What followed was a constantly shifting explanation: "metal in the oil" "just scratches" "failed bearing" "previously disassembled engine" "not our fault." At multiple points, they leaned on "prior mechanical condition" and ownership history, even though the car ran fine before their work and failed immediately after. That timing speaks for itself. It also took far too long for management to get involved. Early communication felt dismissive, and I had to push repeatedly just to get clear answers. The story kept changing depending on who I spoke to. At one point, I was told I needed to pay for a full engine replacement. After weeks of escalation and involving BMW NA, they shifted course. Final outcome: * Used engine (~93k miles) * 90-day warranty (engine only) * $1,100 out of pocket Yes, the car now runs fine. But that doesn't excuse how this was handled. This felt less like a transparent diagnosis and more like an effort to avoid responsibility until pushed. And as a final detail -- I picked up the car with the gas tank basically on reserve (~11 miles left). I'm not expecting a full tank, but after everything, that level of care says a lot. Bottom line: the car is fixed, but the process was inconsistent, reactive, and difficult to trust. If you service your car here, document everything and be prepared to advocate for yourself. read more

Staff were great and their cafe with complimentary food and drinks make it a wonderful experience for what was an ordeal for me in the past. AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP. I brought my brand new BMW M2 in for a check engine light and adaptive headlight malfunction while I was at work. First, they tried charging me over $500 for a "diagnostic" to remove a pebble from the brakes/rotor area. After I declined it, I was suddenly told the pebble had "fallen out on its own." The dealership entrance is literally covered with loose pebbles. Then, only about an hour after dropping the car off for TWO separate issues, my service advisor Jovany told me they cleared the codes and the problems should not come back. It was obvious the car was never properly diagnosed. After driving the car for about an hour, BOTH issues came back again exactly as before. I left a voicemail requesting a callback and received absolutely no response after 24 hours. That is why I'm leaving this review. I work 6 days a week and specifically made time in my schedule to bring this car in. Now I have to take even more time out of my week because the dealership apparently chose not to properly inspect the vehicle the first time. If the dealership doesn't want to properly diagnose vehicles late in the day, then don't schedule 3 PM appointments. Absolutely ridiculous to have me pick up the car an hour after dropping it off. 1- The transport company this dealer uses is Milan Transport and are amateurs. I will never buy another vehicle from this dealer online again and will advise others as well as long as you use them for delivery. They never initiated contact with me advising me when to expect delivery. It wasn't until I called them, and was interrupted with a request to text instead that I learned of their plan to deliver within one hour. I had an appointment, advised them I would be unavailable and they then delivered 2 1/2hrs later, when it was convenient for me. Secondly, they did not advise me they require cash or Zelle to pay them. This is simply amateurish and rude. 2- After I signed-off on the paperwork with this dealer, I was never advised of the next step which is delivery. I sent a text to Ana and she told me the transport company would be in touch with me for a Thursday or Friday delivery. Why am I initiating this? 3- The vehicle did not come with a level 1 charge adapter and finally received it 5 days later, via mail. 4- No one at this dealership has contacted me to help set up My BMW I.D. and walk me through setting up the car until I threatened to write a one-star review. 5- As for the vehicle, i4 M50, it is a great ride, handles great, but the software is not intuitive and clumsy to navigate. Your Sales Staff was good at making the sale, prompt, initiated steps along the way, but once the paperwork was finalized... your dealership just couldn't be bothered with me!! For some reason the airbag had to be replaced, no issue with driving, but sensors required. While taking my car in I remembered that the two rear USBc slots on the back of each front seat were no longer working and asked to be looked at and fixed. When I acquired the car I bought two USCc to USBc cords to have ready to go when my kids were in the car, but my kids were not coming in my car and ended up having to take the cords out 3 times to be used in my wife's car on trips to then be put back in my car, by me, the one who uses the front USBc slot multiple times a day with taking in and out and no issues. Service told me that they will not replace as they broke due to excessive force?????????????????????????????? There is a lot of labor involved as it involves taking apart each seat and putting back together and the component should not cost more than $20 at a car dealership and Fields BMW will only fix for $1,200. Yes, I bought the car 5 months ago brand new and this is the service I am getting. In picking my car up this evening I was livid that they are not replacing and expressed my frustration, and informed I will be going to a different dealership. Their response was "fine" and I gave them an "FU" to be given one right back by the foreman of the service department. is that a joke? Employees can speak to customers that way? If it was coming from Dan Fields then no worries as it is his company and if he wants to swear at an customer then go for it, but for an employee to say "FU" to a customer is absolutely wrong. If they were in the right they would have just kept their mouths shut and let me look like the loudmouth, but they wanted to get theirs in. Good for them. They lost a customer. If Fields was a respectable dealership this would have been fixed with no questions but after a week of back and forth with them standing firm and having an employee s\ay FU to me they are getting a negative review. Included is a photo of what has been described as excessive force to break and not taking any fault on the hardware but putting the blame on the customer. WAY TO GO! I am sure Dan Fields must be super proud of his service team. Maybe this is how be pays for commercials...put blame on customer to make customer pay when it is covered by warranty and use that money to fund commercials. Experience was great from start to finish. I originally went in to test drive a preowned 2024 x1. The 2024 felt little small for me and I was eyeing the new 2025 x1, as 2024 x3 seemed little too big, but new 2025 x1 model was more spacious and bigger than 2024 x1. I didn't test drive 2025 at Fields that day, but Gregory was great! He was very nice, laid back and non pressure. I went to 2 other BMW dealerships that day and what a difference! I'll be cordial and not specify which ones One was very aggressive; quoting higher prices and acted as if I didn't solidify and buy that day, the whole lot would be gone tomorrow. The 3rd place well first thing .....car ran out of gas on test drive, literally stopped in middle of road. Only me , all could do was laugh as so ridiculous. Someone came with gas and then...wait for it, battery died! Had to go back in Porters car that had garbage from 2 years of drive thru's. Again wasn't ready to make offer. Sales associate apologized, but when I was driving home something stuck in my head. Before I left, the manager came out to meet me (very nice and assume to try and get me to sign that day). He introduced himself, But never said anything about car running out of gas and battery dead. I brought it up as a joke and then he was like, I am so sorry....blah..blah. Things happen I get it, but service recovery is what matters. If he was not going to address it right away, not sure if I bought from them and ever needed something; could I count on them for good service? I say all this because the next day I get a call(not a text or email) from Gregory as he saw I inquired about 2025 x1. He was very nice; again non pressure and said I'll send over details/estimate. He did and Fields had the most transparent/non bullshit approach. Better trade it prices, better financing and overall price. I went with Fields because of all of this. There non pressure, non arrogant approach. Also shout out to Paige in financing (who was great) and apologize forgot name(he helped me bring our car, pair my phone, explain everything to me and helped put some items from old car into new x1. Bought a a certified 2023 BMW 760i xDrive (which is awesome) only to find that it had a cracked rim. I have not driven the car very much and would have noticed hitting a pothole hard enough to crack the rim so it had to be there before I bought the car. It was losing a bit of air in the beginning but I just thought that it was the change in temperature. Then the temps dropped and it was much worse so I thought I had a nail or something in the tire. Took it to have it repaired only to find a sizable crack in the rim. The wheel needs to be replaced ($1,400 at Fields) as repairs are only a temporary solution. The other thing is the car needed coolant the same week I brought it home, which tells me they did not check the fluid levels before delivery. As part of the paperwork for the car, I noticed that Fields had replaced two tires so, I assume they noticed a leak and replaced the tire but did not notice the crack (maybe it was smaller then?), which is the best case scenario. The darker scenario (not very likely and I don't believe this is true) is they noticed the crack and certified it anyway. So, either Fields does not do a very good job during the certification process or the wheels on BWM's flagship sedans are made of balsa wood. The dealer did agree to bear some of the cost for the replacement wheel so I have adjusted my rating. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE DEPT! Branden the manager is incompetent. Oil was found in the coolant tank and he blamed me or prior owner for "dumping oil in the tank" and it was "impossible" for that to happen otherwise. All BS. Car was new with free oil changes. They DENIED my warranty and Branden quoted me $5,500 to do multiple flushes, replace hoses, etc. I refused and did it at private shop for $1,400 (they said it was leaking somewhere). Oil came back and Patrick BMW finally diagnosed it as a bad HEAT EXCHANGER that was leaking and contaminating the cooling system, not the customer putting oil in the coolant tank. DO NOT TRUST BRANDEN or this service dept. They FAILED to diagnose the problem and blamed me. Shame! read more

Had my 330Xi serviced/repaired at Fields BMW Collison and Repair and had the most horrible customer service experience BESIDES they LOST MY KEY FOB and didn't tell me until I went chasing after them as I had zero communication for a almost a week. Not only did they lose the key they gave me a huge attitude kike I was inconveniencing them. Then they did noyt offer to come get my 2nd key fob so they can actually finish working on my car BUT I had to drive my key to them. They never offered to come get the extra key so they could get an original key fob of which then they needed to reprogram both the keys. They jerked me aroudn from the very beginning and the customer service was the absloute worst. No care for the customer and absolute horrible - as in next none - communication with me/the customer. I will NEVER use this facility again. Stay far away if I were you. read more

They have a beautiful used M850i with the features we have been looking for. We have a pristine BMW with less than 9,000 miles to trade in. We are 200 miles away, but this should be easy. To establish a trade in value the salesman's only 2 questions are do we have 2 keys and when did we last change the tires. Our car is like new as are the tires. Answered his questions & hear nothing the rest of the day. Next morning he asks for photos. Sent a bunch of photos immediately. Hear nothing so later in the day text asking if he received the photos. Hear nothing. Next day hear nothing until almost 8 pm. Then get a text from the pre-owned sales manager with an insulting low trade-in value. Offer is well below KBB's trade-in range. Well below an outright purchase offer we have from Carfax. And well below the offer we received from a Ford dealer who said they don't get much call for BMWs but would still offer xxxx - well above Field's offer. To top it off his offer is contingent on "if it is as you describe". I didn't describe it, I sent a bunch of photos. By the salesman's questions, he certainly doesn't pay attention. By the incredibly slow response & pre-owned sales manager's response they don't want our (and probably your) business. And they won't get it. read more

We bought a 2018 X5 with 40k miles on it and we realized that the driver seat had a small crack on it and we didn't noticed that there were windshield chips. We talked to our sales and she said management agreed to fix it on their dime. Fast forward I got the car back and the cracks on the seat is not fixed, cracks are still visible like it was never touched. The windshield chips, weren't filled in with resin. NOthing was done, I have photos of before I went in and after. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE I called to tell them that nothing was fixed and they switched on us that we have to cover the windshield that its an old car, excuses, excuses Will never go back. read more

LOVE Fields BMW Northfield! I'm a MN resident and have been working with Jori and Ray at Fields since August of 2024. They have helped me buy a 2025 X2 and just helped me upgrade to a new X3 due to sizing issues with my X2. They are responsive, timely and thorough, which I especially appreciate. Jori explains all of the additional warranty options and financing objectives SO well. They also get all of the transport/delivery set up so smoothly. I told Ray one time what I wanted in a vehicle and he found it both times without issue. Ive never had any inventory problems with Fields either. Seems like so many BMW dealerships lack inventory. Ray is great....helped us with an almost new Escalade they had on trade. We paid cash and didn't negotiate as it was a pretty fair price. My beef is with trying to get the headset for the kids with the screen tv's in the back seats of the suv! We were smart to get a promissory note before we left, because it is now 2 months later and still haven't gotten it. Now they are acting as if I am the problem simply because they haven't sent us our headset lol! They do the job right and document it. Granted, no bargains but you never leave feeling that they weren't honest. I went to Fields BMW on Thursday Nov 7 to purchase an X1 suv I test drove the day before. I came prepared with a preapproved loan and insurance ready to activate once I made the purchase. Unfortunatly, the salesman become pushy about pursueing a loan from their own loan department. This added more tension to the initial stress I already had purchasing my first car. I told the salesman I was going to need another 24 hours to think about this. He became even more aggressive about using their loan department and if I did it now, they would give me another $300 off. I told him no, I'm not going to take a second hit to my credit rating, since I already have my loan approved and ready to go with a credit union. Autotrader search at 11 PM Friday found their listing for a used X5. Looks great, I send inquiry. First thing Saturday morning, receive a text, and I mention am 4.5 hours south of their dealership but they do offer touch less delivery service. NO details on limited range, and hey if you advertise on Autotrader and others clarify or don't offer. We agree to a Facetime virtual tour few hours later, I ask if they have delivery options, they say "well we only do local Chicago but we can offer you maybe a list of carriers" I said fine I am in logistics I will handle if we come to terms just adds to my cost. Then magically, 30 seconds later I am told "Oh sorry my Manager just informed me this car is no longer available" WOW someone showed up at 10 AM Saturday morning and swooped in before me? Amazing! Hey Fields BMW, if you only prefer local buyers, then don't advertise/offer otherwise. Obviously $30,000 cash buyer is not worth your sales team's while. read more

I have always past here on the expressway but never been to a Fields Dealership. I finally got to visit with a friend for a service appointment. The garage and service area is clean and their intake appears smooth from the moment that you roll into the garage. They have a cafe like waiting area that is open space designed so no cramped up waiting at Fields. The waiting area has a personal chef with a menu for breakfast (and lunch or later in the day snacks or meals I suspect) our appointment was in the morning so I saw the breakfast menu. There were breakfast sandwiches or toast or bagels. They had muffins and breakfast pastries. There were about 4 or more coffees and juice or soda or lemon/cucumber water. The chef takes your order at a counter and you go to your seat and they deliver your meal to you. I never got this type of service department waiting room service at Audi. The service to the car was nice too as they sent my friend a video of the under body of the car focused on some areas that would need attention and then the Service Representative came in and explained the areas needing attention and gave price estimates for repairs and we were out. I was telling a friend about the nice showroom and service department and her father worked for Fields dealerships for many years and she co-signed how great Fields are. I may be in the market for getting a new car in the far but near future and BMW is one of my dream cars. You never know, I may become a Fields BMW client. I recommend them if you have a BMW or are shopping for one. I did look around the showroom and talk to a sales person so I may be in the market for one. read more

Why do I drive from the far Northern suburbs to have service performed on my BMW? Why have I not leased my last two vehicles from Fields and still make the haul for service. (would have leased my vehicles here, but they did not have due to chip shortages the cars that I wanted.). I've only really leased BMW and a huge part of that isn't just they are the finest autos ever made. Oh no. It's the unbelievable service department at Fields BMW in Northfield, Illinois and Chris, who always always takes care of me. I've known Chris for many years and Chris literally will make me feel as if I'm the most important customer he's ever had even those times like today where I stroll in no appointment and I think you know what I put this off maybe I'll get lucky, I don't know how he does it, but he got me in and he got me out. Chris has a way with his customers that keeps us coming back. I'm fascinated by sales and customer service and I've watched him with his customers. He never loses his cool, ( many times I know I would have watching some not patient people). Chris Goodrich is his name. Although the start of the sale process appeared like a non-starter due to a very low trade offer, Gregory did not let the obstacle prevent a sale from occurring and the trade offer was not a reflection of his efforts. He followed up the next day and made a deal happen that we were satisfied with. He was courteous and he did not waste a lot of time as often occurs with car dealers. The only reason I leased a vehicle through this place was because they had the style/color I wanted and I needed a car to return to work. I highly recommend checking out other BMW dealerships before proceeding to do business here. I placed a security deposit on 10/15/22 to order a car and was made aware the dealership had to wait for their allocation, but my issues are as follows: (1) Why are they asking for security deposits if they don't have an allocation in place? (2) I never received any type of communication when they would receive their allocation. It wasn't until I reached out December 3rd that I was provided the option to purchase a vehicle that was already in transit. Imagine going to an Apple store and taking the time to speak with a salesperson who helps you customize and order your phone, now imagine Apple waiting 1.5 months to communicate they can't deliver the phone, but they have another phone available? It's unacceptable and this dealership doesn't meet their clients needs or expectations yet alone provides a good experience. I still decided to move forward with the car in transit despite the miscommunication. I knew from the beginning that the lease deal being offered was a horrible deal, but they wouldn't budge on the numbers and when I decided to go with the vehicle in transit, they tried adding another $10/month to the initial quote. Two other things that really rubbed me the wrong way at the dealership was the good cop/bad cop sales tactic that the salesperson and sales manager kept doing and the constant ask of "is this your first BMW," it's an automobile not a rocket ship people. I'm sure you're thinking, well no one told you to sign, but as mentioned I wanted the car and needed one to return to work. I still signed the lease despite it being a shitty deal and the dealer adding $5,295 in rent charges which increased my monthly payments by $147. They also offered to add a maintenance package which would have been another $100-$200/month on top of the lease. I only came to this dealership because of proximity to my house and I wish I checked out other BMW dealerships before settling. I've leased 2 vehicles before this and never had issues yet alone felt this displeased. I've always heard stories about the bad experiences women encounter when going to the car dealership and I guess I was the lucky winner here. I would also like to add my first appointment here went fine and I was happy with putting a deposit down and it was exciting to build/customize a car, but there's just a huge lack in communication, client expectations/delivery, and zero room for negotiation.
