I'm a pharmaceutical rep. My Office suggested individual orders from this restaurant. The day Pryor, I tried to place an online order for pick up at 11:15 AM. The earliest it would allow was 11:45 AM. At around 3 o'clock that afternoon, I called and explained That I needed to pick up the order by 1115 the next day and could I give the order verbally on the phone. The person that answered the phone said yes. I gave him our order which was five sandwiches and salads and told him I would see him tomorrow. His reaction was tomorrow? Yes, I need to pick it up at 11:15 AM tomorrow. I asked if that would be a problem and was told no. I decided to call in the morning to confirm that they had my order and that it would be ready at 11:15. They answered the phone at 11 o'clock and after a few minutes, the hostess said that yes they had the order. I told her I would see her soon. When I got there at 11:15, the order wasn't ready and she did not have anything in her computer so I had to verbally give her the order again so she could ring it up for me. The order was not ready until approximately 11:40 AM. This was 40 minutes after I called to verify that they had the order and then it would be ready and about 20 minutes after I needed it to be ready as my lunch appointment began at 11:30 and I had a 15 minute drive. When the hostess finally gave me our food, I asked if there were utensils inside to which she replied, yes. I got to the office and there were no utensils and my salad had no dressing. Eating lettuce, cucumbers and cabbage without dressing is not very appealing. I enjoyed the chili. It was flavorful and had a good temperature. I will need to eat my salad when I get home and could get some dressing. It looks like a fun restaurant for seafood and craft beers and the bar look like it would be a great place to sit on a Friday night, but I was disappointed in the service I received for the lunch order. read more

I am so surprised Hanover has this gem of a bar/restaurant. Creative and fun menu. I had the ramen and a pepornicci martini. We were there on Christmas eve and had the most lovely server, who gave us the best experience and huge attention to my food allergies. I hope this place sticks around for years to come. Update went it for a lunch on Saturday when they opened . Took a bit to get seated , no one at hostess station. Finally got seated, looked over the menu . Took a while for a waitress . Placed our order, got the cream of crab soup that was mostly broth and not overly warm , hubby got a steak quesidillia basket pieces of steak where rather large same size as their own other sandwich with a side of cream of crab this soup same results mostly broth . Stumbled upon this local spot by accident! Came on Monday when they had specials for crab cakes and wings! The wings were delicious (I ordered plain with buffalo garlic on the side) and so were the cocktails. The crab cake could use some seasoning inside the actual cake (good seasoning on the outside). Service was what gets the stars. Server was fine. Ambiance was ok, it was cold though. Hard services , but ok. Food, ugh. Was not good. Was so hopeful that it was going to be good. It was not. Crab cake had a sour taste, old crab scent. Meatloaf, was thinking it would be like Appalachian Brewery, it was not. Small slice with a smoked bbq sauce and melted mozzarella. It just wasn't good. Do NOT recommend. Staff not trained and disorganized. I went with a group of 9. Called two days ahead to ask to make a reservation for the Speakeasy. Was told they do not take reservations for any part of their establishment. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation.(WTF). We were told a 45 minute wait and a member of our group would be called/texted. After an hour, we enquired how much longer. We were told they tried to contact us. My friend showed them there were no call or texts and verified that they had the correct number. We were told it would be an additional two hour wait. First, a disclaimer: I didn't know until after I'd gotten home that yesterday was Avalon's Grand Opening at their new location. That in itself would explain some of the issues I encountered. We tried several times to call a take-out order in but no one ever answered the phone. The restaurant is close to our house so I decided to just drive down and place an order there. What I encountered was pandemonium. There were lots of people milling around outside waiting to be seated - not unusual on a Friday evening - but inside there was only one person trying to man the reception area. The phone was ringing off the hook and the staff sort of looked shell-shocked. As a result I came within a couple of minutes of just leaving - I'd been standing there at least 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my presence, and at least 4 people (staff) passed who looked like they could have taken care of those of us who had yet to be checked in. When the receptionist finally got ahead of the process of getting people checked in and seated, she took my order and then went through a process of getting my name and phone number and maybe some other info into her work station. I suppose that info will serve them well the next time we show up, but it contributed mightily to slowing down the process. Our order was delivered out of the kitchen in fairly short order and one of the owners apologized profusely for the wait as he walked me out the front door. My wife ordered the Alaska Crab Legs and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. I asked for an order of Coconut Fried Shrimp and a side of Cole slaw. This was basically the same meal we had ordered just a couple of weeks ago on one of the last nights the Avalon was open downtown. On that occasion we both had more food than we could finish - the crab legs in particular were fat and plentiful. Last night not so much - in fact she only got about 1/3 of the legs that she'd gotten previously, and some of the legs had literally no meat in them. They were all intact so I'm not sure what happened there but I hope someone investigates. The shrimp and the sides were both great although the shrimp could have been left in the fryer just a bit longer to crisp up the coconut coating. The new facility is great. There's a huge bar - probably enough to hold 40 or 50 customers, and the waiting area is more than adequate to handle most crowds. The dining area is brightly decorated and looks welcoming. I've worked in restaurants before and seen the chaos that can result from a large crowd showing up, even if expected like they should have been last evening. This is not the Avalon owners' first rodeo - I feel like they might have planned ahead a little more for this event. All in all I'd say the whole experience averaged out to about three stars. I'm hoping they'll get better; I have high hopes that this place will become a dining staple for us. read more

Went there on a Thursday evening/night for their AUCE crableg special. Was seated right inside door and friend had a tall plant invading her space. I finally moved it and got a dirty look from a hostess. Service was VERY slow. Took over 15 minutes to get our first round of legs and shrimp...3 clusters and about 8 shrimp!! our server never came by until about 10 minutes after we had eaten our food...ordered more...after about another 15 minutes, we each got only 2 clusters and 5 or 6 shrimp....again, never saw our server until after we had finished those. I ordered another order of crablegs...asked for 4 or 5 clusters....got 2!!! finally got fed up with the waiting and left. the place was nice and they had a singer to entertain. On our way into the restaurant, a man was outside complaining that he had been waiting over an hour for an appetizer. I figured maybe it was busy; however, when we went inside, there were many empty tables. The restaurant is split into two sections. To the left is the bustling bar; it has many TVs, like a sports bar and a pool table. The wall is covered in booths, and random high tables are throughout to include the bar seating. They have about, from my count, ten on tap. To the right is family dining, a mix of booths and tables. When we first walked in, we mentioned empty tables and were told a ten-minute wait. I will not complain about this. It was a little over ten minutes, but I seated quickly. Our waitress was friendly from there, though she kept pushing the drink menu. I was told which (in the picture) was the only drink menu. However, it covered none of the beers at the bar. For being called an Alehouse, I figured it would have more of a drink menu, or at least it could tell me the beers as well. The food is an assortment of seafood and bar foods, and once we ordered, it took forever to come out; mind you, we got there at 7:30. It was now 8:40, and I had to ask where the food was. When the food arrived, it was spot on, excellent!!! It was well worth the price, and as mentioned earlier, with the drink menu, I had the painkiller, which was also delicious and priced nicely. I found out that some of the staff had just decided to walk out of their shifts, which would explain the night's slowness. The experience was okay overall, but the staff does need to be plus up! Went in on Thursday for all you can eat shrimp. My wife ordered an appetizer and quesadilla. We had our first drink. And then our second...waitress came to us three times to excuse that the food would be ready soon and apologize for the wait. Three other tables sat down after us and got served before us. We waited over an hour. Finally we got up, ask for our bill for the two drinks and walked to the hostess table and requested to speak to the manager...waited ten more minutes until she finally arrived. I've been there twice, and both times were great. The first was on a Friday evening at prime dinner time. A wait for a table would've been around half an hour, but I immediately got a seat at the bar. I had the jumbo pretzel and some wings, and both were great. It took awhile to get them, but it was prime time, and I was at a bar. Bar service was fast. The beer was cold, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable. I was with a friend the second time. We both were visiting the area, and because of my great experience the night before, we met there first Saturday lunch. I had the pub dub. I also tried two of the craft beers. My friend had a burger. We were there between lunch and dinner, so it wasn't very busy. We quickly got a table. Drinks came in less than five minutes. Our food came in around ten minutes, and it was soooooooo good! Service was tip top. We never waited more than a few minutes. The server was on top of things, and was very polite and professional. By the way, if you like craft beers, both the Tropical IPA and the Docktobefest were spectacular! They sneak up on you, as like many craft beers I'm assuming the alcohol content is higher than commercial brews. I could get in trouble if I stayed here too long. So, put the negative reviews aside and give it a try. Then, you'll know. Judge it for yourself. Consider what others say, but don't go on their word alone. At first I wondered if my map app led me wrong, but the little parking lot out back was the right place, it's just that there was no direction to the entry. But we were brave and went up a little staircase and entered via the back door. Aha! At least we knew where the bathrooms were. We really enjoyed our food, the garlicky crab fries shareable was half-price for lunch and were enough to feed four! We took some home in a box after a nice half cobb, sans bacon for me. They had lots of burgers, but no plant-based protein options. They also had a stout, even in summer! I had the seasonal sour ale, with peach-blueberry flavor, yum! I'd go back, even for just a salad and beer or cocktail. The server was nice, food took a while, and the bathrooms were clean. There was a game room and plenty of tables, so it looks like it might be a great weekend party spot. A weekday early lunch is a nice, quiet time. read more

This was a great experience. Benjamin was our server and he was a top level server. You see the Beer selection on the menu. I love a Dark Draught , so our server recommended Pizza Boyz Sunny Side Up / Little Amps Double Coffee. This Stout was superb. We started with the Crab Fry appetizer. Loaded with Crabmeat. Judy had the Alaskan Crab Legs. A large portion for the price. Delicious. I tried the Crab Cake grilled cheese. The toasted bread and loaded with Crab meat. The star was Benjamin. Another server accident ally spilled my guest water. He calmly stopped the water from spilling onto our guests lap, graciously apologized, smiled at the other server, and immediately replaced the water. This place has a great atmosphere. First and last time at this restaurant. We had lunch on a Sunday at noon. The restaurant was not at all busy. We were greeted immediately at taken to our table, where we sat for 10 minutes before greeted by waitress Aaliyah C. We were finally able to order and expected great food from the reviews we had seen. Well, we were more than disappointed. We ordered the Steak and Mac n Cheese and the Ribeye sandwich with a side of Mac n Cheese. The food took nearly 25 minutes to come out to the table. The steak and Mac n cheese was dry with hardly any cheese and topped with cuts of steak that wee clearly bad cuts of fajita beef with more fat than actual meet. The ribeye sandwich was certainly not ribeye. It too was a bad cut of fajita steak with gristle and fat. The side of Mac n cheese with the sandwich with nearly inedible as the pasta was undercooked and still a bit crunchy. Once finished eating what we could we were ready to go. Sadly we were not the only table in this section with issues. Food certainly not worth what this establishment is charging. read more

We will be back with more company next time! Usually I do not leave reviews, but felt the need to after our recent visit for a quick lunch. Just stepping into the foyer was a nice atmosphere and leaves enough room to wait for some friends if you're early to your arrival to meet. With the social media age here, it has a great place to take some selfies or grab a nice photo of yourself, friends or family with their decorative wall fixture and furniture. After getting into the main entrance, we had such a pleasant welcome by a young woman behind the hostess bar. Behind her was a gorgeous fish tank set up that adults or children attending are sure to love to watch while they wait for a table. If you really even have to wait. We were sat in moments from entering and got an amazing server. If you happen to have the pleasure of meeting Lilly during your time there, it only adds to the great experience of your visit. While we ordered, drinks came in no time, food was fast to come out and WOW. I think it was the best cheesecake sub we've eaten anywhere around. The other item ordered was a Bourbon bacon burger and just as equally delicious. I'd like to think I know my fries, but seriously, they were seasoned perfectly and just the right type of crisp to them. We got an order to go for the kids, again, Lilly made sure to check in on everything, refill drinks, just be genuinely pleasant and make sure we had the food to go as quickly as possible. As we sat during our visit, the other waiter, a young man, was very pleasant and personable to the party sat a few tables away from us. All in all, if you're looking for a place to go for yourself or to take company, stop in and treat yourself! I found this place driving to another restaurant. I walked in and sat at the bar. I ordered the punch i forgot the but it had alcohol in it. It was very good. I also ordered the Cajun butter mussels. If I had time I would've ordered a second round of them. The bartender was really nice and attentive. The only problem was that the inside felt like outside. It was warm inside even though the fans were on. I was surprised to see a menu so upscale for a bar like this. But I went there today and the service was terrible, and the food was so over seasoned that only someone who has burned out their taste buds will enjoy the massive amount of salt, sugar, MSG and Bay Seasoning on the sandwich. The onion rings were chunks of fried breading with a tiny strip of onion inside. .... So if you are a drunk heavy smoker you will probably love their food. .....
