The food and service here has always been extraordinary. They are known far and wide for their great crabcakes as well as just about everything else on the menu. Here's a factoid totally unrelated to the food experience. The family that owns the restaurant is that of Thomas Haugh, the University of Florida basketball player who is projected as a lottery pick in this year's NBA draft. Stopped by again for a weekday lunch - this time we had a Short Rib Grilled Cheese & an Old English Melt .......aaannnd of course the signature basket of chips with Balsamic Vinaigrette drizzle & sprinkled Parm. Could go there for nothing but the chips! But I must say both sandwiches were AWEsome! We made reservations since it was the Monday of Valentine's week but, although busy, the place wasn't slammed. Our server was attentive & everything came out in a timely fashion - love the ambience! Stayed here on Saturday April 26th. We were very pleased with the accommodations, rooms were well kept, comfortable and clean. We also ate some great appetizers in the brew pub along with a nice selection of locally brewed beer. Will definitely stop again on next visit. read more

We recently had my son's graduation lunch here. They were one of the few places in the Gettysburg area that does lunch reservations. The ambiance was very nice. The drinks were good with a small but well balanced beer menu and some tasty cocktails. The menu had a nice variety and overall was pretty tasty. Portions are quite large. The biggest challenge that we had was that the service was very slow. read more

I'm not in the habit of leaving negative reviews but the Thanksgiving buffet yesterday was dreadful. My friends & family have eaten there several times & the food is fabulous normally. Yesterday was a total disaster. It was as if they had a substitute chef with zero ability. Nothing, I mean nothing was worth a complimentary mention. Even the desserts were very SAD & not homemade. Besides all that it was VERY EXPENSIVE & ordering off their normal menu was not allowed. Therefore my grown grandson went & sat in my car. Must follow up with the staff, as always ,where pleasant & attentive. Especially the bartender that we visited with while waiting for our table. My advice is to go and enjoy Atland House on any other day but a holiday. read more

The food and service was great- we had the chicken ranch pizza and it was one of the best I've ever had. We sat outside on the porch- it is right in a traffic circle so it was very noisy- motorcycles and big trucks non-stop. I would definitely sit inside next time. read more

Had my husband's birthday dinner tonite. I had the filet with a crab cake. The mashed potatoes were amazing. My husband had the crab cake and thought it was great. On the positive side, the service is great with attentive servers. The place itself is quite quaint and historic. The food is where this place falls short. I had the French onion soup-mostly cubed bread soaking up a very salty broth. My husband and I split a chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. The chicken salad was nice with grapes and pecans and not too much mayonnaise. The fires smelled and tasted like the fry oil was rancid. I can't give a better review for that reason. read more

We just enjoyed our lunch at the Altland House in Abbottstown. What a treasure! We had the rib grill cheese, butcher burger, Nashville hot chicken, onion soup, French fries, and sweet potato fries. The meal was very filling and we had leftovers to go. Every food item was delicious. We also tried draft beers 1 , 2, and 3 that were ice cold and tasty. Kristen R. provided excellent service with a cheery voice and smile. The receptionist was very pleasant, too, and provided us with water and comp speciality chips promptly after seating. She also provided my curious husband historical data about the building. Fascinating! We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this restaurant. You should try Altland House. Went in for lunch and made the mistake of sitting on the patio during a nice summer afternoon. The circle of traffic around the patio was so loud with so many Harley Davidson choppers coming through and 18 wheeler trucks, that we couldn't actually talk during our meal. We ordered two of the blue crab Cobb salads, but the taste was that of either canned, plastic bagged, pre-chopped ingredients from a factory, not fresh. Avocados were dark green, and mushy, near spoiling. The crab meat was a very "fishy", or some people would call "gamey" tasting. Again seemingly old. No egg on a Cobb salad?? My partner finished his, but I threw away half my salad, which is highly unusual for me. I usually appreciate and finish everything I'm served. It was just too hard to continue. read more

We always enjoying eating at here. Brussel sprout salad with a massive pc of Salmon added. Made two meals out of this. Second time for ordering the curry mussels, enjoyed both times however the flavor profile was spot on the other month. Tonight was good but. I had the Homegrown Bowl and texture was terrible (wasn't sure if undercooked w seeds or what). They were very accommodating and replaced it with the Mediterranean bowl which was much better. The hummus really helped the dish. Husband had meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Seasonal vegetables were very good as were the mashed but meatloaf had no flavor even w bacon We will go back to try something else on the menu as their is plenty to choose from. I'm gluten free dairy free so I am limited and will likely bring my own roll and keep it basic. They have gluten in their sauces, bases, etc. FYI. (Ask questions for my GF friends). read more

Amazing food! Are server seated us very quickly with my friends we were visiting with. My friend and I ordered Shirley temples and they were brought to us in under a minute. We then continued to order some food but then my family arrived. We both ordered French onion soup as are dish and it arrived in about 10 minutes. My cousin ordered a lemonade(the server got bonus points for saying "A LEmOnAdE ARigHt" he was a great and kind server. The was one complaint I would have to give is the pizza I don't know what about the sauce on it but if you like sweet sauce on pizza that's for you. But I had a good experience there and I will definitely be returning soon. Also they have amazing bread. Went to a wedding here over the weekend. The service was exceptional here, truly awesome! Thanks for a great experience before, during, and after the wedding! The food served was great for a large event, prime rib with crab cake and scalloped potatoes. The staff was professional and personable. I would like to thank the event coordinator also for doing such a great job making the event feel personal and important. We stayed at the hotel, which had a huge amount of charm and personal touch. The hotel is old, so be prepared to have some things that may not be as comfortable as a brand new hotel, such as thin walls, however, the furniture and updates in the bathrooms are absolutely stunning! I saw both suites on the third floor, and a couple other rooms. It would be a nice weekend to stay there if visiting nearby. I did not eat in the restaurant, however there was a casual brewery and pub downstairs, which was great. The close fairly early, so keep this is mind when going during the week. Overall, I would like to thank all the staff for a great weekend and making the event special and personal! I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates history and charm also! read more

Just out for a Sunday ride down RT30 was getting hungry so we stopped in here first time drive by probably 100 different times never knew it was here. So we went in and was greater and seated promptly, our waitress Mollie brought us complementary homemade chips with balsamic vinegar with Parmesan OMG they were soo good. We ordered two pub burgers one with homemade chips and one with sweet potato fries everything was soooo yummy and we were stuffed! Everyone was very nice and dressed professional. Took my family here for dinner and ate in the pub area. The live music was great, very talented musicians. Our waiter was very nice, attentive and funny. The food was another level!! It was very delicious. Our entire party loved all the food we ordered. The portions were more than enough. We needed boxes. And the price was very reasonable. The Altland House is a family-run, super quaint and charming inn that is the only place that I stay at when I am in the area. What makes this place so wonderful is the owners and the staff. They will do anything and everything to make your stay wonderful. The food is plentiful and tasty. Rooms are super cute and charming. The only problem I have is dual romote controls that I always screw up, but they always fix it for me. My bad. Also, if you need a space to hold any type of event at all ... this is the place to go. We have been here several times, and each time the food is plentiful, and the live music is very nice. The upstairs is more upscale, and the downstair more common. Neither gets cheated on the service and meal choices though. It's nice having a place ot go and choose to sit up or downstairs depending upon one's preference any particular day. If anyone has read any of my restaurant reviews, you know there is a common thread ... I want there to be NO onions!!! So, when I order French Onion soup - strained - as I've done for the past 40+ years - I expect it to be w/o onions but look like the delicious baked cheese encrusted on top, all bubbly. This is NOT what I got! The goofball in the kitchen did strain the onions out but then dumped a pile of non-melted cheese ON THE BOTTOM! Who does that??? The breakdown: the broth had a good depth of flavor to it ... It wasn't simply a salty beef cube; it was a little greasy but I'll blame the half melted blob of cheese on that. The "crouton" was a soaked to death piece of unremarkable bread. Other items that my table mates ordered were wings. Thursday nights are wing nights - .55/each. The Old Bay were good but overdone and that might be because one of my table mates ordered theirs well done. The blue cheese dressing that I asked for a dip was not blue cheese dressing; it was a basic Ranch with something in it. Definitely not blue cheese. We've had other things on their menu; it's a little pricey for what you get but overall good, not great, average good. Their drinks are inventive and good but their glasses are not that big. read more

While we enjoyed the brews here, overall we were disappointed. The menu offered poor choices for mostly plant-based eaters, like us. We ended up choosing a cheesy appetizer, just for a little protein to go with the beer. The cost for two beers and two meager appetizers was about as much as two full meals should have cost. Our server was nice and tried to point out what substitutions we could ask for, or what to omit, but again, there weren't really any veggie protein options, like a simple bean burger patty substitution. Also, we might just be old fogies, but this trend of facial piercings, dreadlocks and extremely messy hairdos is unsettling when it comes to restaurant/brew pub servers. We stayed in the hotel! We needed a weekend away and the Altland house filled the bill. We got the king-size bed on the side away from the square. The bed was so cozy and comfortable --we slept well. The room was large enough for a table and chairs, and the bathroom was well laid out. It was large, and nicely appointed. Because of the age of the place, some of the amenities didn't quite blend... the fridge and TV seemed a bit out of place. The included breakfast was pretty basic, thought the breakfast area was super nice. In fact the best part was a lovely member of the staff who was chatty, friendly, and very informative. I got a good deal through hotels.com, but even so, the price seemed reasonable for the quality of the room. read more

Returned here after a year and we were disappointed, probably will not go back. We ate inside , it wasn't overly busy on a Sunday evening. Service was slow. My husband ordered French Onion soup as an appetizer, it was over 30 minutes before it came out and it was cold. Not even close to hot. He sent it back and about 10 minutes later a hot one arrived. I ordered the Shrimp and Arugula Florentine. It arrive with just 5 shrimp total, at best medium sized, on top a very large bed of fettuccine and sauce. While the flavor was fine, I think $24 for a noodle dish with only 5 shrimp and no sides is excessive. My husband had the Filet Mignon , it was cooked correctly and was tender, but served with a gravy over it which is a bit weird. It was a hundred dollar dinner for two, in our opinion not worth the price. read more
