The barbacoa was by far my favorite! It was flavorful and tender! I also thought their al pastor was really good, which says a lot because I feel like most places struggle to get that flavor right. I wasn't as much of a fan of the fajita meat (it came as little steak bites, which was different), though my husband actually liked it. Just a heads up for anyone visiting: make sure you bring cash!

There's no spice from the mayo or hot sauce so if you don't like spice you'll be fine. I also tried their bulgogi fries which came with bulgogi meat, jalepenos, cheese and cilantro. My first reaction was it was delicious but it wouldn't be something I would get again, but after I kept eating it I realized this is actually really good and now when I go back I'll definitely try it again. A good amount of beef on a well toasted bread and the coleslaw was the perfect balance to the poboy. The overall portion was quite big for me to finish. The food came out pretty fast although I was the first one in line. The guy who took my order and also made the food was friendly. Overall, a quick and easy lunch. They have rats & roaches.. & the owner mark is a complete asshole. He treats his employees like shit & he's too cheap to close the restaurant during construction obviously. He'd rather you sit at a table with others & not be able to hear a single word because he's knocking down walls or drilling holes into whatever run down piece of wood he can find. He is a disrespectful person who demands the utmost respect. Seeing the many rats & roaches almost makes you overlook the million gnats & fruit flies they have. Oh, & not to mention, most of the staff are obviously strung out on drugs. Oh, but the food is okay. As long as you like it the same way the chef does. No matter how you ask for your burgers to be prepared, it always is over cooked & flavorless. I wouldn't trust eating much else, especially since you can hear the employees complaining about rodents from the kitchen. The health department needs to pay this place a visit ASAP. I'm not sure how it's survived so long. Throughout all that construction, maybe the owner should try fixing his attitude. That's the real money maker.. This one star I'm giving isn't even deserved. read more

I've been coming to Backyard Grill for years, and it never disappoints. This place is consistently great, with delicious food and a family-friendly atmosphere that's perfect for any occasion. Whether I'm in the mood for a juicy burger or a perfectly cooked steak, I know I can count on BYG to deliver. The restaurant is especially lively on Fridays and weekends, but it's never overbearing or too loud. And the service is always top-notch - the staff here are friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of. One thing I really appreciate about BYG is their takeout service. It's super quick and convenient, perfect for those last-minute dinner plans when you don't feel like cooking. Where to even begin? Lets see we started going to the place back when it was Little Barn Grill. Bad.. Then Settlers opened. Loved the Chicken Fried Chicken. But Then Came Along the BYG - Backyard Grill. It has been around the longest out of all the restaurants prior. and LOVE LOVE LOVE it... The hospitality is superb. and the food is always delicious! I never had a sweet potato fry before in my life! Came here and now I am addicted. The burgers are always hot fresh and very juicy! Plus they offer a frequent diner card for all the regulars and you get free appetizers and meals just for eating there. Have you tried their new bucket of destruction yet? My favorite place to eat!! The menu is huge with plenty to choose from. The service is awesome and the beer selection is the best in NW Houston. Backyard recently came out with a new cocktail menu with over 40 drinks. Plenty of TV's to watch the games and two separate patios to enjoy - one for the kids with a sandbox and the other for the grownups outside the bar. I love this place. Warm and cozy, all the staff is so friendly (much improvement lately!**). It is totally unlike any chain restaurants. You can tell they make their own chicken fried steak, batter their own chicken tenders and onion rings...mmmmm... AWESOME BEER SELECTION!! and they have different beer specials on different days so the craft beers aren't too pricey. Chunks of zucchini threw me off so much and it was pretty hard. Didn't taste fully cooked. I just dont know how this place is still running. I also did have to remember that we were in the middle of cypress, tx and they may be accommodating to the usual crowd that comes in. My plate was also over $20 which was also hard to swallow. Boy was I surprised to be seated by a hostess only to glance around to find a bar, enclosed patio and semi open kitchen. Did the meal itself differ from its fast casual counterparts? Not by much, but the offerings were more robust. I love to see pie on the menu alongside shakes, and while Mac and cheese and fries are welcome, orange chicken, Korean spices, broccoli salad, collards and heavenly eggs are a welcome change of pace. Our first trip (dine in) was about a 4-5 star experience. I waiter was not the most attentive and the food took quite awhile but the experience was positive enough for me to return. The second trip was a drive thru experience and it was...not as pleasant. Our service wasn't the best, our attendant less than enthused to be doing their job. A matter of fact, I felt like I was bothering her by ordering. While my food was fine, my sandwich came without napkins and again the food (one sandwich) took quite awhile. I'm unsure if I'll return with so many options in the area, but I'm glad I experienced them twice!

Trash!!!!! I don't…read moreeven know where to start. Saw a review on TikTok about this restaurant. We usually go to Mikey's or Thisisit! Both amazing places btw but we decided to try something a little closer. The Location was hard to find with the black out windows and plastic banner outside. When you get inside the food in the pans were scarce and employees has no intentions on being out more. The chafers had no lid coverings for the food. We ordered turkey necks collards and yams with side of Mac n cheese Turkey wing with dressing and yams with side of Mac n cheese A kids chicken wings rice and Mac n cheese (they do not have tenders even though it's on the menu) Strawberry cake Peach cobbler Total was 78.43 Oh and was not made aware that we had to wait 25 mins for the peach cobbler. Now once the food made it home we warmed it up bc it was a 15 mins drive home. The turkey necks definitely wasn't cleaned before being cooked they had an awful taste to them. I removed them from the bed of rice and the sauce from the turkey necks had the rice tasting the same. SMH Mac and cheese was disgusting! I can't believe people actually enjoy cream of chicken in their Mac n cheese! Collards and yams were the only things that were pleasant enough to eat IMO. The chicken wings from the kids order were rubbery and slightly pink inside. My son didn't eat anything from his plate. The turkey wings were fatty and lacked seasoning, still had the taste like the turkey necks as if they were not cleaned properly before cooking. Stuffing was dry and this could be due to no lids covering food. Food workers did not have gloves on for hair nets. Update: I called the restaurant to speak to Tracy the manager and was told there had not been any complaints that day regarding the food! Were asked questions like did we still have the food? How was the customer service but no solution to the problem. I even offered to bring the food back in order to receive a refund. She told me that I couldn't receive a refund but they would make another plate for us. My question is: if I didn't enjoy how the food tastes what makes you think I want another plate of food?? I informed her that I would reach out to my bank and file a dispute which I is what I did. Horrible FOOD HORRIBLE SERVICE HORRIBLE OWNER. 0 out of 10!

I do recommend that…read moreif you come you plan for an hour for food whether you are dining in or taking an order to go. Im not sure why it takes so long to fix the plates, because soul food is typically already cooked with the exception of fried items, but it does. So come when you have time to wait (at least an hour). If I dont have the time, I will usually go to another spot.
