The portion could've been larger even though with the size of the burger it was a filling meal. The outhouse was decent. Staff at the hotel provided the recommendation. It was a good experience. Second time I've tried this place. The first time I ordered shrimp. I will just say I was not a fan and it got thrown away. This time I stopped on my way home from work thinking maybe it was just something I didn't like and I'll try something else. I got home not even five minutes away and the chicken breast was cold and already sliced as if it were supposed to go on a salad, lukewarm mashed potatoes, came with gravy that tasted sweet - also cold? I had the Flat Iron Angus steak medium, which by the way is more medium rare and I'm glad I asked as some chefs tend to cook a bit different. It was juicy, tender and served with your choice of two sides. I had a baked potato and they don't skimp on them either, you get the works, butter, sour cream, cheese, chives... I'm getting hungry again just writing this :-D and the fries okra that was perfectly cooked. Came in on a Monday night for dinner. We were seated within a few minutes of walking in. The service was downright slow, the bartender was working most of the floor and the bar. She seemed nice but completely overworked. She appeared to be working 1/2 the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for a side salad. The food took 40+ minutes. There was white gravy on the mashed potatoes (this wasn't on the menu) and the food was extremely mediocre. They got one of the steak orders wrong & the Mac n cheese was nothing to brag about. First time i came here i was not that impressed. However! A good friend of mine took me here and ordered their mango habanero wings, absolutely phenomenal. Smoky and sweet with a Great kick to them as well!! I tried the seafood gumbo and man idk if it was a good or bad thing (probably good) that it came with 2 oysters that tasted like the ocean floor bro. Like idk. I usually am not one to let little things bother me. I get it's a restaurant, it's a public space, noise is normal. However when you are trying to enjoy a meal with your family and there's a few tables of kids (who seemed to be children of employees working) who are left completely unattended and acting disruptive, it definitely ruins the ambiance and mood of the dinner. We had some kids who were jumping up and down on the booth seat, yelling to servers across the restaurant to bring them things, throwing French fries in the air that were flying over by our table and just being all over the place with zero regard for those around them. Then there also another child with a phone watching videos at full volume that I could hear even walking from the bathroom back to my table. They were walking around back and forth from the servers station to their tables and it was just ridiculous being seated directly in that area. My family had to listen to it for 90% of our meal before they finally left. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention we went to dinner early and the restaurant was almost completely empty and they decided it was smart to seat us directly next to them when there's a dozen other open tables. But we got sat next to the server station, and close to the kitchen where there's enough noise as it is without the extra disruptions. I have been to Texas Mesquite about 4 times and I'm finally convinced that the great food I've always experienced is not a one off. Went today and got the fried shrimp with fries. It was fantastic. Shrimp cooked just right, fries great. The cocktail sauce was really good. Had just the right amount of spicey heat. The remoulad was yummy. Only negative was the fountain coke. They grill them and you are hard pressed to taste wings like this from the 'wing places'. Party of 7 (5 adults a d 2 kids) arrived on a Sunday 1 pm right after church. We were sat instantly. Our server was very upfront and honest about the kitchen shortage/backlog which gave us an opportunity to decide whether we wanted to stay and wait or go somewhere else. We stayed. Ordered appetizers then our meals. Appetizers consisted of the Sampler and potato wedges. Sampler came with Wings, Jalapeño Poppers, quail bites, and onion rings. Everything on the sampler was delicious, the wings were surprisingly good, the jalapeño poppers were a little different and not what you would expect, they are huge! Quail bites were really well put together and probably my favorites, but those onion rings were not far behind, nice crunch to that sweet onion. Potato skins: Tater Skins topped with cheese, bacon and chives. Served with ranch and sour cream. My 20 year old really like these. Meals were: kid chicken tenders and fries: both of our kids didn't care for the chicken tenders but devoured the fries. Honestly, the chicken tenders were delicious, but they were meant more for adults and we have picky eaters lol so can't fault the establishment on that. Chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese- huge portion, very tender steak battered with a wealthy vent coating. The garlic mashed potatoes were right on point, and I am a bit of a macaroni and cheese connoisseur so this was just "OK" for me. 2 Step burger: Two 1/2 pound patties, cheddar cheese, bacon with lettuce, tomato, onions, & pickles.. we requested cooked medium and for no onions as the person is allergic. They did bring it out with onions but the manager quickly came to replace it, took a few more minutes but we didn't mind. The waiter took full responsibility for "his mistake" on the omitting of the onions and this to me means a lot... instead of easily just blaming the kitchen. The burger was juicy, the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and the bread was soft yet had a crunch to it. We asked for sweet potato fries and those were all thought very well cooked. Chicken Brenham- Grilled chicken breast topped with creamy spinach & cheese. Very juicy, full of flavor. Brisket quesadillas from the appetizer menu- least if our favorites. Not bad, but just "ok" Service was good, food was delicious and frankly just the fact that they were honest and upfront with wait times/ mistakes was a nice gesture. read more

We also ordered the ribeye, NY strip, and the tomahawk pork chop, which were well-cooked and delicious! As for the sides, order the southern-style green beans, baked potato, most sides, but the Mac n cheese is a bit blah. However, the meat is so delicious, no one really cared about the mac.
