They can be very busy at times (because they are so yummy) but the workers are always trying hard to work fast and get everyone on their way in the morning. Every weekend, at least one day, we go here to a light breakfast and take it to the beach to watch the waves. I was almost never disappointed in the food or service until the one baker left/retired (I don't know which it was). Now when we order there is barely any cream cheese on a bagel. How hard is it to prepare a toasted bagel with cream cheese? I like to be able to taste mine and a teaspoon just doesn't cut it. I doubt I will go here very often anymore. All the employees are rude and truly seem like they despise their job. It seems like some changes need to be made, not sure how they stay in business. I am in town on vacation with my family. I pleased to find a small business selling bagels next to Starbucks and opted to get my breakfast from the bagel place instead. I was mistaken in thinking that their offerings would be fresh and tasty simply by looking at the menu. I ordered the California Dream and it was a big mistake. It looked like it would be good having avocado, sprouts, egg and mushrooms on a bagel. They did not have the largest selection of bagels for a bagel place. But I should have ran when she proceeded to microwave the garbage that was served to me. The bagel tasted cheap and unimpressive. The eggs was over cooked and lacking any form of flavor. When I went back in to express the fact that I was displeased, an older Hispanic woman greeted me with "that is what you ordered, too bad". I explained that it was garbage and after taking one bite threw it in the trash as I was leaving. They refused to give me my money back, and it is really sad. I will be more discriminating in the future. I come to this bagel bakery quite often only because it's on my way to work and has a drive thru very convient. I give one star because the attitudes these employees have is straight . Also every time i get the same exact thing a superseeed bagel with jalapeno cream cheese and tomatos toasted with a thai iced tea. So tell me why one day it's $5.58 the next $6.55 the next $6.22 wtf??? Does each person just charge you wtf they want? Weird and annoying. Such a disappointment. Ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and ham in the drive through. Took them ten minutes to just take my order and another five to get my food. Only one car was in front of me. They didn't toast my bagel, and I ordered a coffee (which they forgot about) and they handed me a Luke warm cup and they didn't even have regular sugar, only substitutes. The worst customer service ever. I've been coming to this bagel bakery for the last 6 years I've lived here. I go to get breakfast and ask for a sunrise on poppy seed bagel with no cheese. Well when I got my order and paid the lady put cream cheese on it and in plain English I told her no cheese. What a jerk she was she growled at me and said I asked for cream cheese and said I didn't say no cheese. She was a god dam liar and maybe didn't hear me when I said no cheese. So I took it back she messed it up again. So I called the manager and he was nice when I asked for a refund and gave me the money back but when that same lady was there she told him that she didn't ask for no cheese and god dam lied in his face and he didn't defend me so I was upset about that. Patty: 3 and 1/2 stars is what I would mark it as. I have been coming here as long as I can remember. This place is on and off for me sometimes they make your bagel excellent and sometimes there bagels might be hard or they make it sloppy. I gotta say more than half the time is pretty good. My usual is the superseed bagel toasted with sprouts, tomato, onion, swiss and avacado with turkey. Basically its the california nosh just with turkey instead of tuna. On a hot or cold day, I love to eat here. They have a drive thru window as well. I must say they could use a little remodel, the interior design has been looking the same for years but again I also think they whole SandCity needs a remodel. read more

A whole star counting for a drive thru because drive thru bagel sandwiches is heaven sent. It's not a long wait either. I've only tried their breakfast bagel sandwiches, which are my favorites in general. They have an array of bagel choices, and although they're not anything out of the ordinary / unique flavors, there's enough variety to not get tired of. The bagels come out nice and hot, the ingredients are always fresh. I love the egg and avocado combinations. The sandwiches are unique though! The Greek Isle and Andreas Fault breakfast bagels and my favorite out of the list. Definitely try the Greek Isle if you had to choose. The only thing that made me knock off a star is that sometimes the sandwiches are pretty small and not as loaded with ingredients. It's still filling, just not consistent. I would prefer to have it loaded with maybe more egg even just because the pricing is about 5 dollars a sandwich for breakfast. Also the bagels such as everything bagel or onion come with the toppings on one side and the bottom of the bagel just looks like half of a plain one which is a bummer. But other than that it's nothing to keep me away. I usually always end up giving in and going in when I'm on a grocery run. They're just too good! read more

I love the bagel sandwiches. I always get a toasted super seed bagel with turkey and mustard. The one particular woman who works there is always snarky. The last time I went, she was simply stoic and I thought to myself "Wow, she must be having a good day because she wasn't rude, just neutral." That is not a good employee. You should make the customers feel comfortable and happy to be there. I will continue to keep going because the bagel sandwiches are delicious. I will never go there again! As the boy, I believe his name was Craig, took our order and was preparing the order, he reached into the garbage to "arrange" its contents. I kept waiting for him to wash his hands, he never did. A different person rang us up, and I stated to her that he had reached into the garbage and did not wash his hands. I asked her to have him wash his hands. She walked over to him and said something, which I am sure was not "go wash your hands." He still did not go wash his hands. I will not eat there again. They do not wear gloves and they do not wash their hands, but seem to have no problem reaching into garbage and then fixing food for others. Gross! Eat there at your own risk. The Bagel Bakery in Sand City is a place I would not recommend to anyone. The staff is very rude and condescending. Six months ago I decided to give The Bagel Bakery a try, but I found out that the employees were rude and my order did not meet my expectations. I decided to give them a second chance, yet my second experience proved to be worse than the first. When I approced the counter, I greeted the woman taking orders, and her response was "What do you want?" I asked for two bagel sandwiches and waited. She place a bag on the counter without letting me know the order was done. I kept waiting, and after about 10 minutes I asked her about my order. With a smirk on her face she said, "Don't you see your order on the counter?" When I got to my car and checked the bag, the order was completely wrong. I came back inside to get my ordered replaced, and when she saw me, she completely ignored me. I called her attention and asked her to redo my ordered, and she blamed me for the order being wrong. She did not apologized or admited she was wrong. As she was making the sandwiches, she kept mocking "this is your oder right?" When I got my odered, I asked her who the manager was, and she pointed to another woman behind the counter. I asked the manager to speak to her and she rudely replied, "you're gonna have to wait a while because I'm busy." I decided to not waste my time and left. After observing both the clerk and the manager, I realized that the business culture of this place is not customer service oriented. I can't speak highly enough about the product at bagel bakery, but every time I have come in the employees look miserable. Today I ordered a create your own sandwich, which caused the small Asian woman to roll her eyes at me. She repeated my order back to me incorrectly, and when I corrected her she rolled her eyes and walked away. My bagel sandwich had tomatoes I did not order and mayonnaise I emphasized I did not want. When I paid I said thanks have a great day and the employee again rolled her eyes and walked away. If I could give this place a zero i would. Customer service was horrible! I can't stress that enough. The woman who helped us the morning of Aug 25 was by far the rudest I've ever come across, and because of her I won't be back and I won't recommend anyone. My husband and I were very polite, said our good mornings, please and thank you and all she could give us was her eye rolls and the back of her head. I couldn't believe it, and to think this business is still going. Now to the food. I love bagels but I'm sorry, I've had better. Much better! I pick up breakfast and lunch here on the way from SCruz to Monterey about once a month. I love the food: the best, most authentic bagels in the Monterey Bay, IMHO. (I hate the fluffy "round bread" at Noah's.) These are the real deal. A good selection of toppings, including several cream cheese flavors. Service is usually fine; I can't imagine how the counter people manage the short-term-memory feat of remembering my complicated orders. And the prices are pretty hard to beat. read more

Absolutely disgusting. Got my order wrong this morning - both bagels wrong. Asked for both double toasted because their toaster is awful. One was singly toasted with the wrong cream cheese added. Yuck. The second was not toasted at all and had eggs cooked in the microwave in plastic (a no-no) with canned slimy mushrooms, a chunk of old sun-dried tomatoes and who knows what else - made me want to throw up when I took a bite of it.
