I have been coming to the Bagel Man since he first opened and they are the Bagels I ever ate. The bagels are boiled and then baked to perfect soft chewy inside and crunchy on the outside. I love the everything bagel as it has the perfect balance of salt, garlic onion, poppy and sesame seed. The lines can get long at times and confusion happens with the orders at times and I overlook it as it's part of the Bagel Man experience. read more

Between Odelay and Bagel Man, these are the top locally owned bagel places in the area. Enjoy both of them and usually alternate between them. Each is a notch above the chain places with Bagel Man's offerings bigger than Odelay. While BM offers the standard fare, Odelay serves some innovative items such as parmesan and black pepper. I, like many others, am from New York. So I have high expectations when it comes to bagels. I moved 6 years ago to CA and could not find a single bagel place that even touched what I was used to. So I'd have my mom just send me bagels! Although not as a fresh, it was a better alternative. So, when I moved to Tempe, I was VERY skeptical to find a place that I'd like. I looked up bagel shops on Yelp and found The Bagel Man. Many other east coasters approved so I figured I'd give it a try. I went in on a Sunday morning around 7:30am and there were only a few people there. I think I was in and out in about 5 minutes! Their customer service was fantastic! The bagels themselves were exactly what I was hoping for. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Tasted like NY heaven to me! The only downfall I had was that my bagel was a bit too over cooked and a little burnt-ish on the outside. But I bought a half dozen and no others were like that. I'd give them a 4.5 stars if I could. I certainly will be going back!! read more

If you're coming to The Bagel Man, I would recommend you leaving your house/work ten minutes early because of the line. There is plenty of parking within the area and tables outside for seating. Once you're done ordering, you get your food out within a jiffy HOT and good. YUM! In my opinion, lines that goes beyond the entry of any restaurant is a good sign based on the quality of the food and the loyalty of returning customers. Just moved to Tempe for college and holy crap these bagels are amazing. I got the blueberry with the raisin walnut cream cheese and it was amazing. The owner is extremely nice and explained he doesn't make the egg bagel anymore because he couldn't get it perfect so he didn't want to upset customers. I had only heard great things about this place. On a Thursday afternoon I planned out my lunch and drove about 15 minutes out of my way to try and eat at this place. I walked in at 1:50 or 10 minutes before they were supposed to close. The place was almost all closed but I figured I would walk carefully across their super wet floors and order something to go. Their chef told me they were closed. I looked at my watch, looked at the door and started laughing becasue I thought it was a joke. I tried to order again and she let me know they were closed, it had been a long day, and she didn't want to make anything. I still really want to try this place, I'm just wondering if it is common to turn down customers when the hours of operation are still running or when they actually close? This place is a hole in the wall with authentic New York style bagels. They are delicious. The reason I am rating it with one star is because the owner talks to his employees like they are dirt. It's straight up abusive and that's what keeps me from going there often. Who wants to see, hear, witness that when trying to get their bagel? The bagels were soft and warm and the perfect density. There was a line almost out the door around 11am on a Saturday morning. The line went very fast and we were eating in no time.
