Bellingham is my adopted 2nd home. Whenever I'm in town I have to get my Bagelry fix. In fact, this last trip I ate there each morning. The bagels are really fresh and taste like actual bagels rather than just bread. All the people that work there are nice and the service is fast. It's cash only folks. So I stopped in for bagel and lox sandwich which I ordered. I asked for NO onions on the bagel. When I opened it up it had onions on it, as well as lettuce (not sprouts like I wanted as well as being advertised) also the tomatoes that were on it were slimy. This was at 8:15 in the morning! Delicious breakfast bagels! We got there right at 7am when the place opened, and the bagels were fresh out of the oven. They have a ton of options, including make-your-own sandwiches, lox, tons of different cream cheese, etc. The space itself is huge, plenty of tables. The drip coffee is nothing special, but the espresso was surprisingly good. I got an americano and it was way better than the starbucks down the street. If I went to Western, I imagine I'd come here for lunch at least a few times a week. Incredibly tasty, fresh bagels, and they make yummy sandwiches from them, or omelettes to go with. Food is cheap and service is quick. Only downsides are that they don't take cards, so bring cash, and they don't toast the bagels for you, so I usually just ask for whatever came out most recently. (Fortunately that's often the Everything bagel, which is my favorite, and usually they're still somewhat warm.) Oh, and if you like pickles, their pickles are way better than the bag of chips - I always ask them to sub an extra pickle and skip the chips. read more

This place is good if you are in a morning or afternoon rush to get something to eat, but I wasn't that impressed. I know it takes a lot to impress me. I ordered a breakfast special. I had a sesame bagel with scrambled eggs and a regular cup of coffee. Their coffee cups are really small but that didn't really bother me. My bagel however, was a little too hard and chewy for my taste and the eggs seemed like the liquid egg you buy in the store or powdered egg mix, or something. I'm not into rubbery eggs. It has a rustic ambiance, with it's interior design of brick walls and mismatched wooden chairs. I sat at a table next to an avert board laden with fliers promoting community events. It's obviously a popular place to stop in and get a bite to eat. The customer service was great. It definitely has a small town bagelry feel. My experience wasn't a total bummer or anything. I just would have loved to have a better bite of bagel and a nicely cooked egg. read more

The food was good. I had a lox bagel sandwhich. I do wish they'd have cut it in half (it was a bit difficult to eat), but i didn't mind to terribly much. I was mildly annoyed that its a cash only place, but they do have an atm (1.90 to use), and I did ask for "dine in" but they gave me a packed up "to go" bag instead. Hands down best bagels I've ever had. Anywhere. I had resisted trying them for a while because I figured they couldn't be any better than Sunrise Bagels, which was the bagel place in my old town. I was wrong. And folks, there is a reason they don't toast their bagels- it would ruin it! These aren't the kind of crappy store-bought bagels you would want to put in a toaster- as someone said earlier- they are simply perfect and doing anything to them would ruin that. I can't comment on cost because I got my bagel with a coupon good for a free one. Forget the "nothing compares to a NY bagel" nonsense... I've grown up on NJ bagels, and had NY bagels during my later years on the east coast. Yes they were always excellent, but that shouldn't take away from experiencing the west coasts bagels. These were what they are and should be, a bread product boiled, baked, covered with toppings and slathered in cream cheese. Now tell me who has the right to judge the beauty of that? We stopped in for breakfast. The bagels were great. However, the eggs and omelets were not so great (at all) and the hot chocolate was chocolate milk heated from a jug. Disappointing. If you stick to the though bagels you should be more than satisfied. They do those very well. read more

The food is pretty good. A lot of cons to the place however. First we had to wait in a long line as several employees walked by us without asking to take any of our order. You can't use a card to pay so make sure you bring cash. Kind of inconvenient for this day and age, but they did have an ATM. Then after purchasing $25 of product. We asked for a cup of ice and they wanted to charge for that, a little taking in my opinion. Finally we had to wait and watch 6-7 customers behind us get their food. When we did receive our food, we were just handed out bag without an apology or explanation for the delay. The last bit was the pickles were put into a paper bag on top of our food so everything was soaked in pickle juice. Overall it was not worth the cost and the wait of this experience. read more

If you've never had a Bagelry bagel, you don't know what you're missing. These are real bagels, the kind that make you swear to never eat store bought bagels again. The texture is perfectly chewy. And they're cheap! One fresh bagel to go is just over $1. To make it even better, their flavored cream cheese spreads are amazing. My favorite is the feta garlic dill. The sandwiches are great too! The Bagelry is great. The food is good, the prices are low, and it is always fun to go there. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the fact that it is informal, but that only adds to its charm. It was really funny.. I was walking by the place one day heading off to an appointment. This young guy was just hitting the sidewalk from the parking area and heading in. I asked him if it was any good. He said that he worked there but never liked bagels much before.. but that theirs were great. Based on that, I went back a few days later to find that besides the bagels.. they do a nice breakfast. I have (so far) been getting the Breakfast Special.. with is Eggs as you want them, a buttered Bagel and coffee. Absolutely a GREAT bagel, warm and covered in butter with perfectly cooked eggs.. and for the price a nice portion. I have to get back there more to eat through more of the offerings.. and take some bagels home. PS good coffee too. Service is Fast.. you order at the back corner near the menu boards.. walk up to the register to pay CASH (there is an ATM machine for us Debit centric folks). Sit down anywhere and they find you with the food.. hot and perfect. Lots of seating, very friendly staff and patrons, simple decor .. the focus is on the quality of the food.. not fancy digs. read more

The Bagelry has my favorite bagels in town! I've only been there during the morning hours, where I've had good luck with finding somewhere to sit down and getting through the line quickly. My gripe with this place is that the staff aren't the friendliest and that my orders are consistently forgotten or messed up, especially if I order an espresso drink. I've had multiple times in the last few months where my food and/or coffee was forgotten entirely, where the bagel wasn't toasted when I asked for it to be, or when the latte didn't have vanilla in it when I ordered vanilla. It's gotten to a sort of running joke with my partner and I where we can almost predict that my order will come out with something wrong and his will be fine. They are always quick to correct their mistakes (even though they often seem irritated with me) and always bring me my correct order right away, so I have an easier time overlooking mistakes and chalking it up to lots of college students working in a high volume place. Those bagels definitely keep me coming back - there's just nowhere else in Bellingham where you can get bagels like this! read more

CHECK YOUR ORDER!!!! Ordered two bagel sandwiches to go, received ONE! We ordered our sandwiches to go, sat down and waited. The sandwiches arrived ready to be eaten in house, we informed them that we requested them to go, which they acknowledged we had and went back to package them up. When we got home, there was only half the order. While the sandwich they sent with us was fabulous, it was still only half the order - at there prices, this was unacceptable. read more

I love the Bagelry!!! Their bagels are unmatched in deliciousness, and they offer numerous spreads that compliment their bagels tremendously well. You can tell all of their food is made fresh and from scratch, which just adds authenticity to their savory flavors. The Bagelry's omelettes are large and delectable, and each one comes with a bagel, so you don't have to choose omelette or bagel, you can have both! The only downsides are that they aren't open very late, and they're a cash-only establishment. It also isn't very kid-friendly, unless you're a college kid. Don't miss the Bagelry!! read more

On occasion I really crave a yummy bagel sandwich and find myself going here, and I severely regret it every time. The bagels are fine, the sandwiches are fine. They aren't extraordinary, but they are good- a bagel is a bagel. The problem is that the customer service is just awful. It's so so so bad, to an absolutely ridiculous degree. Several times I have been here when it was not at all busy and found myself waiting in excess of twenty to thirty minutes for a bagel- that is after waiting five to ten minutes for any one of the 6 or 7 people standing around behind the counter to decide to help me. They are sometimes straight up rude, and they just do not care. I have not ever spent less than thirty minutes in here even just getting a bagel and cream cheese to go on a slow day. And during this time all I can think to myself is first, why did I come back here? And second, if I had gone to the grocery store, bought some bagels and some sandwich fixings, driven home and made myself this bagel, I probably could have saved myself some time, and made a better sandwich without having to look at all these scowling faces trying to avoid helping me. It is kind of nice however, that the service is so consistent in its awfulness, because I finally have stopped going. Had there been one or two good, or even ok experiences, I maybe would have kept putting up with it. Nope! read more

I've been a loyal Bagelry customer since I moved here in 2012. I go there 2-3 times per week and always get the turkey sandwich or lox sandwich. Excellent bagel, friendly employees and a great atmosphere. This morning I went in with my girlfriend, a Starbucks employee who was finishing off her small coffee from her shift. As the owner of the Bagelry was taking our order he pointed out her drink and said "You DO know we make coffee here, right? If you're going to eat here you can't have outside drinks, next time you had better not bring that in here". Despite the fact that I had just ordered $16 dollars worth of sandwiches for the 2nd time that week, he continued to hassle us about our coffee. While he was not very diplomatic, I understand the no outside drink policy as I worked at a small coffee shop around the corner from Starbucks when I was in High School. I get it, big cafes hurt small cafes and we had reminded him of that. I had hoped to reconcile things when he brought the bagels as I am a regular and don't want bad blood at my bagelry. When he brought out our bagels we asked him if he was the owner, apologized for bringing in coffee, pointed out we had ordered $16 worth of food and hadn't meant to take away his business, were regular customers, and promised to not bring coffee in again. He continued to hassle us, stating "Coffee pays our rent, we cant just be letting people bring their own coffee in, next time get it to go and eat at Starbucks." Somewhat of a confusing point, as I felt spending my $16 for two bagels had MORE than helped support the Bagelry. Surely the $16 would offset the $1.50 for a cup of coffee? At this point we decided to leave, and walked to our car. I looked up to see the owner running after us yelling "HEY! I wasn't kicking you out, you just cant have that coffee" I explained we were going to eat at home and that as customers we felt we had been treated poorly and wanted to leave. At this point I would have still been willing to go back to the Bagelry after a cooling off period because let's be honest, i need my bagel fix. After telling him we felt we had been mistreated he said, and I quote exactly: "Well then, screw you guys I'm going to put the BIGGEST curse on you; I hope you own a restaurant someday" Very unprofessional experience and I hate to say I'll be getting my bagels elsewhere in the future. I went here because someone had brought me the most delicious bagel one time, and I mistakenly thought it was from the Bagelry. I had come on and read the reviews and was so torn between my desire not to patronize a company with a rude owner, and my desire to taste that deliciousness again. My craving won out, so to the Bagelry went I. I knew from reading the reviews that it was cash-only, so I brought $10. When I went to order, I placed an order for all the flavor of bagels I wanted (they didn't have the one I went for, only now it was too late for me to go somewhere else), and then I went to order cream cheese. I calculated how much I had left to spend after the bagel order, and decided on the size I could afford. The air-headed girl taking my order tried to upsell me, telling me how much more I would get in the bigger container. And I said "well that may be true, but I have to pay cash, so I'll go with the smaller one." With vacant eyes and a condescending voice, she says "You have to pay cash either way." So with all the patience I could muster, I slowly reply "But I only have so much cash on me..." duh. I mean, how many people really carry around cash anymore anyway? Doesn't take much common sense to deduce why I truly *have* to stick to a budget in a cash-only place. Anyway, the bagels were fine, just ho-hum. Nothing to get excited about. The cream cheese was good, and I thought a good price. And for the record, the smaller container I bought was more than enough anyway. Later that day, I inquired of the person who'd brought me the other delicious bagel, and he said he got it at Grace Cafe. I'm telling you, go there! Their jalapeno bagels are to-die for!
