Kind of the spot that you visit and the people working there think you are an interruption to life. I'm maybe third in line as the cashier spends, I'm not kidding, 10 minutes talking to the first person in line about her weekend. They were obviously friends catching up. Which is wonderful. If you can do it while you do your job. Unfortunately, the 11 of us waiting got an update on your lives. Interesting, but more an interruption in my life. Very glad you could catch up, but I think when I pay I'm called a Customer. I'm chill, but I too had a life to catch up on this weekend. Extremely friendly staff. Wait times however are fairly lengthy, cramped interior. Baguette was delicious, not crusty like a traditional French baguette, but overall good. Bagels are $3 each and aren't even good, they are dense bricks!! Of all the items we had, the croissants were probably the worst. It was extremely heavy, and absolutely soaked with oil. When we took a bite of it, there was visible oil seeping out with each bite, and we had to throw the entire thing away. Think greasy raw dough that was soggy. Croissants we've had have typically been light and airy without much hint of grease. We will give it another shot before making a final decision about the place. read more

Service was good although it is too close and crowded quarters. I am never sold on their coffees they are not bad but not excellent either. Until now I have liked their pastries specially their sticky buns. But I am in search of a good and buttery croissant. What a major disappointment it looked beautiful and yes they did warmed it up for me but when I broke it to eat it was doughy and the whole middle was RAW. Do not waste your money at this place. We went here for lunch with high expectations and were all greatly disappointed. I ordered the Southwest Hammich on an Asiago bagel and it was terrible. Everything on this sandwich was ice cold! Even the fried egg was precooked and cold. I was at least expecting the bagel to be toasted, but again cold and not toasted. Absolutely no effort. I could have made a better sandwich using bagged bagels from the grocery store. We also ordered a cookies and cream scone which had absolutely no flavor of cookie, and the only sweetness came from the small amount of icing drizzled on the top. The lemon muffin was also a disappointment and didn't have enough lemon flavor. Then to make matters worse, they had no ice so we had to drink very warm water from tiny cups. I don't like writing bad reviews, but they really need to get their act together. Times are too tight to be wasting money on bad food. Hopefully they'll see this review and make some changes, but next time we come to town, we will definitely be skipping The Bake Shop. read more

I've watched this space go through 3 evolutions of propriety: Mad About Chocolate, Justified Bakeshop, and now, The Bake Shop. Each had very, very good fare. I discovered TBS in March of 2021. I sure hope TBS lasts for a long while, because it has some goodies that the previous two had, and some new ones. I've gotten carryout 5 times, most recently 2 days ago. So far I've tried * Coffee Cake Muffin * Garlic Bagel * Sticky Bun with Cream Cheese Frosting * Garlic Toast * Blueberry Cake All good, so far. The shop is very clean, all personnel are helpful. We love the coffee here, but they need to figure out a better method/layout for ordering and picking up food. The space is way too cramped, you never know who has already ordered because it's always full of students standing around with their faces buried in their phones waiting on their grub Hub orders. When I do order online, it's not uncommon for me to show up 20 minutes later and still have to wait another 25 minutes. We just visited the Bake Shop to grab a quick breakfast and we had a terrible visit. The food and coffee were terrible and flavorless. We ordered $55 of food and drinks and were highly disappointed. The portions were large but our breakfast sandwiches were cold. I ordered the Hammie Sammie and my husband ordered the Bake Shop Bennie. The sandwiches had the potential to be good but since the sandwiches were not toasted long enough the meat and cheese were still cold. We also ordered a Plain Jane bagel with cream cheese, a chocolate brownie, and blueberry streusel muffin for our kids. There was so much cream cheese on the bagel which would have been fine but it lacked any flavor. I usually like to visit different local spots to try what the city's food scene has to offer and this place definitely disappointed and would not come here again in the future. It's located near William and Mary University so they have the local college students as their customer base. There's no indoor seating, so if you plan on visiting, it needs to be on a nice day since there was lots of outdoor seating. 1PM on Mother's Day at the Bake Shop. At least 30-40 people in line. The line came to a halt while the cashier took 10 min to take one family's order. No lie. Several people in line timed it. Many comments were made from the waiting line. When they finally finished the waiting line actually applauded. 5 orders taken in front of me without comment. When I got to the cashier he told me I was rude and refused to serve me. Didn't say a word to anyone before or after me. Not a word. The difference? I was the oldest person in line by at least 20 years. So I was seen as an easy mark. The cashier then proceeded to tell me that I harassed the staff. Nope, never spoke to a single member of the staff the entire time I was there. The cashier then told me that I was in 4 mths prior and had harassed the staff. Nope. I had never been there before. I was also told that customers can take all the time they want to order and they really don't care about the people who are waiting. Now there's a business plan. The Williamsburg Bake Shop selected me from the group because I was a senior and an easy mark to take their unwarranted and rude behavior out on. After reading other reviews, nope, I was not the first customer that was told to leave because the staff was being "harassed". Apparently happens on a regular basis. There are far better sandwiches shops in the area with way better service and higher quality food. Ricks Cheesesteak, the Cheese Shop, Dog Street Pub, The Barkery. Take your money elsewhere. As a local, I REALLY wish they would go somewhere and apprentice, to learn how to make bagels. Their bagels' flavors are on point, (salt and black garlic!) BUT the bagels are dense and heavy like bricks. Add this to being ridiculously overpriced. Should have trusted the previous bagel reviews (not great), but came upon them at the Farmer's Market today and decided to give them a try. These are round with a hole and that's as close to a real bagel as they come. Just dense bread, no chew, no shine, nothing like a true bagel. Just wrong and $3 a pop! read more
