It's unfortunate that the experince recently hasn't been as good as it used to be when I was younger, the staff is always really helpful and friendly and I have enjoyed the ice cream choices, they are pretty good along with the brownies but unfortunately the cookies are just way too crunchy and hard in the ice cream sandwiches. It becomes so difficult to chew and to even bite into as you can't even break them apart with a spoon, and maybe that's the objection is to get them to be super crunchy like that but I personally don't like cookies that are overly crunchy and it makes them taste a little overcooked. However, avoiding cookies and getting some brownies is the way to go and still tastes great! read more

This is a convenient location, next to Angelika movie theater. It makes a great treat either before, during, or after a movie. I love that you can customize your own ice cream sandwich. I usually get the chocolate chip cookies, or a brownie and a cookie. Two brownies is almost too rich, because the ratio of base to ice cream is off. And the portion is almost too big, unless you had a really small meal or you're sharing with someone as dessert. I am annoyed that they got rid of butter pecan ice cream a while ago, so now I usually just get cookies & cream. Heating the cookie definitely helps, so that it's not as stiff. And if you're getting it to go, they can put it in a little round sides container. Service is fairly fast, unless you get someone that wants to try a bunch of flavors. And obviously peak times like Saturdays will be busier. You van eat next-door on the Angelika patio, they have lots of seating and some have umbrellas. read more

It's very spacious inside and there are outdoor seating for my doggies too! You select your cookies from the front. There are instructions on the overhead chalkboard that tell you what to do. You can also buy the cookies separately for 2.75 or 8.95 to make the sandwich. You can even choose to warm them up! My husband and I got the gooey butter cookie, which by the way was phenomenal. It was soooooo buttery and delicious. I really should have gotten it for both sides of my sandwich. We chose nuttella chocolate chunk for the other side. That was a bit too rich but still good! We also got one cookie of the month to go! It was a yummy pistachio chocolate chunk.. that was very good! So far the cookies we chose were just super! The guys at the register were very friendly and helpful. Fast service and helpful. They helped us choose the ice cream. We got the salted pretzel caramel. That was fantastic! I really enjoyed the dessert. I haven't had anything sweet for almost 4 months, but today I treated myself out! It was glorious! However I think it'll destroy my diabetes numbers for today, but im glad I got to cheat with this cookie! I'll definitely come again on a cheat day! read more

I went through a phase where I craved ice cream sandwiches all the time . The cookie is soft and chewy, but will eventually turn hard because of the ice cream so I would sometimes safe some of the cookie to eat later. I think this place is a good treat for take your kids, nieces, or nephews! There are so many choices, but be careful as it is a lot of sugar! read more

It's been years since I've been to Baked Bear. I remember not liking it the previous time I went but it was surprisingly good this time. It's nice that you get to mix and match the cookies/brownies to make your ice cream sandwich. Tons of fun options. I got the vegan chocolate chip ice cream sandwiched between a chocolate chip cookie and snickerdoodle. The vegan ice cream was surprisingly good and the cookies too. I kind of wished I could order just 1 cookie and ice cream. It was a lot and I only managed to eat half of my ice cream sandwich. They do have a "bowl" which is a bit of a larger cookie with ice cream. Kind of like a pizookie. Several tables inside - we had a large group and pretty much took over the whole place. I arrived at the store right when it opened, so the cookies I ordered were still warm! The staff mentioned that usually, you have the option to warm them up if they're not fresh out of the oven. I found myself torn between two cookie flavors (seasonal pretzel caramel and snickerdoodle) before realizing that I could get one of each for either side of a cookie sandwich. Sugar overload! I normally don't indulge in super sweet desserts but my besties insisted we get ice cream sandwiches in lieu of a birthday cake since I was celebrating another year of being a dinosaur. Enter the Baked Bear and all of it's yummy glory! What is the concept? You basically mix and match any cookie or brownie of choice along with your ice cream and if that isn't sugary sweet enough, they roll the edges in toppings of your choice. I figured I wouldn't let diabetes win so I nixed this part of the process. At least I didn't eat an entire birthday cake. My go to is their Gooey Butter Cake Cookie and Butter Brittle Cake Ice Cream...my girl Melissa got the same after I ordered it and loved it while my other 2 besties ended up going the chocolate route. They are open pretty late...10PM I think and I saw the workers nervously glance at each other when the movie goer folks started piling in. Seems to be a favorite spot for the locals around here cause it got pretty crowded. Parking is pretty ample and you can walk it off your sugar coma at the neighboring retail stores. Their white chocolate chip cookie was one of the best I've ever had (and I love them and get them almost every time I see them). The Cookie Monster ice cream was great. I was recommended this restaurant by my Airbnb Experience guide! We stopped by after our tidepooling experience. The Service: Friendly employees who answered our questions and provided samples of the ice cream. She also provided some great recommendations. The Food: We ordered the build your own ice cream sandwich. Our two cookies were the Cookie Monster - a blue cookie with oreos and the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. We decided on Caramel Pretzel Fudge as our ice cream (per the recommendation of the employee)! We also got our sandwich pressed which warmed up the cookie and doesn't mess with the integrity of the ice cream! The employee was also able to cut the sandwich in half for us since we were sharing. The Cookies and Ice Cream were on the sweeter side, but I didn't think it was too crazy sweet. I generally like less sweet desserts and this was enjoyable for me. Cost: It was $9 for the cookie which is on the pricier side. The Atmosphere: Well lit restaurant and there's seating available for you to enjoy your sandwich after you order! Parking: There's a plaza next to the restaurant that will let you park for 1 hour for free. We didn't see it until we were walking past it to the restaurant! We ended up parking across the street in a different lot and paid $12 for it :( Even if we did see the lot, it was pretty full since we visited on a Sunday afternoon and the area was rather crowded. Overall: Prices are a bit high for a dessert, but it offers a cool dessert to enjoy with cookies and ice creams that are made in-house! Definitely not for someone who doesn't enjoy super sweet things. read more

This store is always empty when I go in, and I finally realized why...they don't greet you, the store is dirty, they don't recommend anything, their prices are crazy and the portion sizes are SO SMALL!!! I got two ice cream sandwiches (one w/ cookies and one w/ brownies) for $20!!! I could make an entire batch of cookies for quarter of that amount and get a gallon of ice cream! I'm not sure if the store is always empty b/c of the times I go and maybe they get busy after the movie theater gets out but maybe greet the guests when they walk in. Clean up the freezer that has day old items in it (there were icicles)...little things make a difference. read more

Their ice cream is good and very creamy, they have various flavors and you can have cup, cone or with cookie/sandwich cookie. The service can be slow if theres only one person taking over and its busy I went in before closing and it just a young guy taking orders, making them and being at the register. I'm not sure if the Baked Bear is referring to the cookies and ice cream here or my 'baked' friend who made the final decision of coming here because of the munchies. Maybe it's a bit of both? Anyways, this is a super solid ice cream sammie shop! They have a variety of freshly baked cookies that you can order on its own, or can create your dream ice cream sandwich ($7). As a UCLA alum, it gave me DR vibes if you know what I mean. They offer vegan options which sang to my soul. There are two cookie options: chocolate chip and fudgy brownie, both of which are also gluten-free. For the ice cream, there is a soy-based vanilla which is fantastic if you have specific nut allergies. My sandwich was a mix of all three and it was bomb - a sugar bomb, and one that left me stuffed for hours. If you can split it with someone, I'd highly recommend going that route. Walked past this place a bunch of times after a movie at Angelika and finally walked in! It was pretty slow for Sunday noon, but the establishment doesn't seem like it gets busy in the day. I got a classic chocolate chip cookie, it was soft and chewy! They let you sample the ice cream and I decided on a scoop of the cookies & cream. I should have ordered the sandwich, however, I do find that the texture of the cookies change when touching the ice cream. I wonder if it does that here. Paid by card. The Baked Bear is located in a plaza and offers a lot of plaza parking. I went on a weeknight around 6:00 PM and there was no one there so I didn't have to wait. The cashier/server was nice and I didn't have any issues ordering. I ordered a pumpkin spice cookie with vanilla ice cream and cookies and cream ice cream with sprinkles and M&Ms. I was happy with the taste of both the ice cream and cookie! (The ice cream was creamy and the cookie tasted fresh and wasn't dry.) I would recommend The Baked Bear and would go back. read more

Came here at 7:30 with no line. It's about $8 for a cookie sandwich or bowl. There's nothing too special about the baked bear concept. Nothing that you can't make at home. My sister got the bowl, and her chocolate chip cookie taste stale. She also got hot fudge syrup which wasn't hot. Overall it's not too bad. There are a few tables inside and tables out in front outside. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful San Diego weather. The decor and tables definitely gives you an old school Italian neighborhood vibe with Italian markets right next door. If I am in the neighborhood again, I would definitely come back here to try the gelato and/or a piece of an excellent looking lemon pie bar I spotted.

It was later in the day so they were out of or running low on some flavors. Nevertheless, the two flavors we tried were incredibly rich and flavorful. A little goes a very long way. Parking is incredibly tough in Little Italy but it is worth it for gelato this good.

The chocolate mousse was the exact mouth feel needed to separate the rich layers of chocolate cake. Both were as refreshing as advertised, but I was dismayed by the $12 price for the serving. There should be a cost differentiation between water ice and the gourmet ice cream blends. The former certainly is not as expensive to make because it has fewer ingredients in each batch. The worker (owner?) seemed distracted with his phone. Most places like this greet you warmly upon entering and willingly explain or assist with the selections. The cafe is small and the service may take a bit if you are waiting for the food, but overall, I enjoyed my coffee and sandwich.
