They all tasted good, but I felt they were all slightly higher price than made sense. The 4 pastries came to $12, where I feel I usually get a little more for that money (at 85°). Cashier wasn't very friendly, no smile and only contact was to ask if I wanted to buy a bag for my purchase (no thanks). Really small location, so no indoor seating. I arrived around 7:55 AM, well after the posted 7:30 AM opening time, and the store was clearly not ready--almost no bread was available for purchase, and an employee named Savannah was still stocking shelves while talking on the phone. That alone is disappointing, but what followed was worse. When I asked her for help finding a specific bread, I was met with a rude and dismissive response that it would take another 25 minutes. When I questioned why the store wasn't ready despite being open, she became defensive and started blaming others instead of helping or taking any responsibility. The situation escalated unnecessarily due to her attitude. Another employee then stepped in and found the bread within seconds, proving the issue wasn't availability--it was poor customer service. There was no apology, no attempt to de-escalate, and no sense of accountability. This reflects poorly on staff training and management oversight. Opening hours should mean the store is ready to serve customers, and basic professionalism should be the standard. A good alternative to 85°. We came here to get some dessert after Shawarma Guys. Same plaza about a few doors down. I got a slice of strawberry cake, and their version of milk bread. It's a little bit more expensive, and the strawberry short cake at Parjs is a little better but I did really like their version of the milk bread. Bring your own bags, they charge for one. read more

I came here a few times this past week because of their egg tarts promotion. I love egg tarts and theirs were pretty good. The crust was flaky, buttery and custard in the middle wasn't too sweet. Best of all, it's only $1 during the promotional period. I also got Thai ice tea and Vietnamese coffee during my visit. I'd say they were not good. I threw away the Thai tea because it didn't taste like real Thai tea and was too sweet. I drank Vietnamese coffee after i added in more milk to dilute the sweetness. It also didn't taste like real Vietnamese coffee (i got both a lot when I visit the countries). Unfortunately i won't be getting their drinks again. read more

This was probably one of my favorite bakeries when I lived in Mira Mesa. I went so often, I likely gained weight from all the pastries and drinks! It didn't help that it was practically walking distance from me too. I once tried their black sesame milk tea, and it was SO good. I couldn't adjust the sweetness at the time, which was odd, but the worker assured me it wasn't too sweet. And it wasn't! I had never heard of Sunmerry before so was really keen to check it out, I love that the sign inside said "Not Too Sweet," that is exactly what I want for a pastries, not overly sweet just the perfect amount. It was really late in evening so there weren't a lot of options but did get to see from the photos on the display that they have so delicious treats. I ended up getting a taro concha and a bbq pork bolo, when we got to the register I noticed the wheel and asked what it was for, the cashier had mentioned that every purchase you can spin it so I spun it got a 50% off a drink order. At that moment, I wasn't even thinking of getting a drink but opted for it since it would be under $4. I chose the taro milk tea and after we paid, I looked around the store further. They have a plethora of moon cake options and noticed how cute the cake display was and really inexpensive for the 6 inch cakes. When I got my milk tea I was a little confused at hue of my milk tea it was more so grey/brown instead of purple, I tried it when I got home and was thrown off at how it tasted burnt? Should have ordered an easy Tiger Milk Tea instead but can't complain too much since I did get it 50% off. The taro concha on the other hand was perfect, it was purple and beautiful and it tasted just right, not too sweet but definitely can taste the taro. We picked up several sweet items and a couple savory. Unfortunately, while the store displays are very helpful, once you leave the store we had no idea what the items were as nothing was in English. The total came out to about $15.32, which is on the pricier side, but they do run a special--buy 5, get 1 free (the cheaper one free)--which helps a bit. It's Mooncake season and the plethora of shapes and flavors are amazing! Normally moon cakes are big to share with multiple friends but Sunmerry has cute mini one bite moon cakes. They don't do honest business here (at this location). Advertised outside $1.49 for Napoleon and $1 for Portuguese egg tarts. I ordered 6 Portuguese, so it should've been $1x6 but they did $1.49x6. I asked them about it and the cashier outside told me that the price outside is what they go by. I was so confused because the other location (convoy) honored their advertised prices. I can tell the difference between Napoleon and Portuguese egg tarts. I don't understand why I had to pay extra 0.49 And another inconsistency. Advertised as hot, but the ones I got were cold. They should try to keep them warm at least. Would I come back here again? Not really. They can use some improvement on their customer service and practice doing more honest business. Once we walked in, there was a short line and it moved quickly. They have a concept where you take a tray and pick all the pastries you want. I got the green onion bun and the garlic parsley bread. I took both the pastries to go because I was in a rush. I think the prices were pretty moderate. I first tried the green onion bun. It had strong flavors of spring onion, and the bread was really soft. However, it was a bit too sweet for my liking, unfortunately. Next, I tried the garlic parsley bread. This one was really flavorful, and the bread itself was very soft. Unlike the other pastry this was not overly oily and tasted perfect. We went on Sunday to buy a last minute cake for Father's Day . Sis said she bought a cake from their LA location and the whipped cream tasted fresh on the cake . A manager noticed us looking at the cake display and asked if we needed help. We said we were thinking about the strawberry cake and asked if it was freshly made. I think he said it was made same day and the whipped cream used was fresh like Tous de Jours (as we asked if it matched them). I asked him to check and he came back and said ok well the strawberry jam was freshly made and maybe the whipped cream was fresh as well. We purchased the cake based on what he said. The cake was bad. The whipped cream was artificial - like straight from a whipped frosting bucket. The strawberry jam tasted like regular store bought jam for bread. The cake itself was fluffy. The 6 strawberries on top were fine. The packaging was also poor - one side of the cake was smashed and a finger print was on one side as well. We ended up scrapping all the frosting off and just eating the cake. Not worth the $40+ spent. I wouldn't purchase a cake here again. read more

What delicious pastries!! I tired their mochi donuts and their cream puff. The mochi donuts were so soft and airy, and had the perfect chewy texture. The cream puff I ate was the strawberry flavored one, the strawberry flavor was really good and it had large chucks of strawberry in the cream! The cream itself was pretty heavy, it almost felt like a mousse or like a butter cream. This cream puff was very filling and quite sweet. I forget exactly what flavors I got, but I remember them both being tea-based and one having mochi in the center. The flaky pastry outside was comprised of many dense, airy layers for an overall dense bite. The filling was perfectly smooth, no lumps, and the flavors were very true to their descriptions. The mochi really was a standout for me, since it was still soft and chewy even after an embarrassing number of days in my fridge. The two mooncakes were small and pricy, but definitely a good once-a-year splurge. I only get them for Mid-autumn festival anyways! read more
