Had a snack at Red Ribbon with my Son, we chose their Super Value meals. For my Combo a Pepsi, Arroz Caldo, and a slice of Mocha cake. My Son had pepsi cola but preferred water over soda, he chose palabok noodles, and a slice of Mango cake. Combos were great except for the slice of Mocha cake, not a fan of it, but the mango cake is always amazing here. I didn't realize Mira Mesa had so many Filipino bakeries. This bakeshop is located right next to Seafood City. It is bright and airy. The baked goods options were small. There's indoor seating. Lady that helped me greeted me but that's about it. Service wasn't all that great. The prices were moderate. I got the ube mamon and the caramel ensamada. As I was checking out I saw that they had pancit palabok and empanada. I got the combo for $10.19. Then I noticed that I could've gotten the same combo with a drink for $10. It was too late. Wished the lady would've said something. The menu is just strange. Caramel ensamada was different. The cheese was also different than the plain cheese ensamada that I'm used to. The bread was soft. I didn't care for the taste. 3/5 Pancit palabok could've used more sauce. The crunch was a bit too hard for me. This was a disappointment. 2/5 Chicken empanada was full of chicken. Took my mom here on a Saturday for lunch. This place is next to Seafood City. We ordered the combo plates. My mom had the palabok with chicken empanada and i had the palabok with yema caramel cake slice. Orders are places at the counter. Cashier was not very friendly and looked like she didnt want to be there. The place only had 4 tables. The guy who was bringing out the food was very nice and came out with smiles unlike the cashier. Palabok was really good. The chicken empanada was steaming hot when my mom bit into it. It was pretty good she said. The best is the yema caramel cake slice. It was so light and fluffy and surprisingly, not as sweet as I thought it would be, which I like. Filipino desserts tend to be on the sweeter side but this one had a perfect balance. I haven't reviewed on Yelp in a long time and I feel the need to warn potential customers who do an online order for THIS location. I placed an online order to be picked up at 1030 for a large Mango cake to be personalized with my loved one's name on it, 1 Party size Pancit Palabok platter, 1 Family size Pancit Palabok platter combo, and 2 packs of Mamon (1 butter & 1 assorted of MY choosing). I arrived at 1130 at the cashier expecting my online order that I placed several days prior for it to be ready and I can carry on with my day. Well, MY order wasn't even started!! The cashier printed my order from the register and in TAGALOG spoke to her coworker about my order. Translation because apparently to them, they assumed I didn't understand Tagalog. The cashier in Tagalog asked, "Is this order already completed? It's a long order." Her older coworker said, "Oh, yeah that one. No, it's not done." and the older coworker looks at me and walks away. The cashier turned to me and said in English, that I will have to wait a few minutes, so I waited at the nearby table. I see the staff pulling out the Mango Cake from the freezer as well as the Pancit Palabok platters. A few times this cashier had to come out and tell me "Ohhhh, we don't have any white icing to put the name on the Mango cake. Is it okay if we use the Happy Birthday paper sign with toothpick for the cake instead? It comes with the candle. Pink or Blue?" Like I have a choice? How do you NOT have icing at a bakery with surrounding cakes? They don't even MAKE or BAKE these cakes! I said it was fine and opted for a pink candle. Yeah, she gave me a blue candle. The cashier comes out again and says "Sorry, we don't have the cheese Mamon that is on your receipt." I said "Fine, I'll just take the assorted ones (non-premium price) even though I paid PREMIUM for the Mamons I selected. This whole transaction and the indifference of the Staff pisses me off. The line behind me became extraordinarily long and the staff walking around this lone cashier that was helping me just ignored them until the cashier went to the back and asked for help. To be transparent, I don't even come to these older franchise Filipino bakeries unless I need to because it reinforces the confirmation that it lacks the customer centered approach that is needed to keep its customer base. If it weren't for my loved on WANTING a Mango cake from THIS location, I would never come here. My son's birthday was on the same day and I ordered a custom cake at the same price at a reputable small business owned bakery with his NAME beautifully decorated on his cake. Since I placed an online order for his cake, it was ready and I carried on my task of the day. In closing, this place is only good for grab and go items that is already placed around the store. As for online orders that requires actual work from the staff that is more than getting an item out of the freezer, don't bother. Don't bother ordering a cake here that requires personalization either because they're too lazy to call the customer ahead of time that it's not going to happen. It's been a long time since I've seen up close the utter laziness of its employees and disregard for prepaid customers. It's not hard to complete such a simple order for a customer. Pssssshhhh.... Went in to pick up an online order. There was only one cashier and there were about 4 people in line. I'm only picking up so I skip over to the front (other customers gave me the side eye) and I see my order on a side table so I quickly interrupt the lone cashier just to ask if I can grab my order and she tells me to hang on. I do understand that I have to wait since she's by herself manning the front, taking orders, ringing up orders, etc. but I don't have to wait if I ordered ahead "and" I see my order just sitting out there. I don't have to wait for her to possibly prepare a halo halo for another customer while my food order is staring at me right in the eyes. I'm sorry but that's the point of ordering ahead. I'm just annoyed that there isn't a line or a sign specifically for pickups. Inside my bag of food was a coupon card for a future purchase. $1 off a $30 order??? $3 off $60??? $5 off $90??? Been coming here for years and the spicy chicken empanadas were what made me want to update my review of this location. The spicy chicken empanadas are a new product. If you like spicy, you will love them. The filling is smother than the regular empanadas I assume because the have to blend in the spices. At fist I though it was spicy. Them slowly I went WOW!! Their food is standard, but the cakes are always available and always so good! The place is big, the service is quick...but the quality is not always there as well as the customer service. But once you try their cakes, you'll see why my friends and family always come back here. You don't come here expecting extraordinary dessert ambiance and prices, you should expect a mom/pop kind of feel, very casual and straight to the point. My friend called a day before to place an order for an Ube Cake (Ube Overload), and it seemed fairly easy. However, he tried calling back to change the time of pick-up, and no one picked up for several hours. We ended up going somewhat near the original time, and after telling the worker our friend's name and what cake he had ordered, there seemed to be some confusion and shuffling in the fridge to look for it. They asked if it was for "Stephanie" (not our friend's name), and we said no - the workers spoke among themselves and we saw them taking off the slip for Stephanie and gave us the cake instead...
