Came here for my friend's bachelorette trip and I must say, NOT a good experience. I had called prior to to inquire about a private area to karaoke to thoroughly enjoy doing karaoke as a group. I'm beyond glad this option was available because I don't believe we would have had a good time had we just participated in a public setting trying to karaoke. What I will say is that $100 per hour to reserve this space is a joke. We booked this private area for $200. We were enclosed in by a curtain and had to compete with the music and noise from the bar and others singing karaoke. We were literally placed in a 4x4 space (a bit exaggerated, but not big AT ALL). The space contained 1 tv screen, a computer, 1 microphone, 4-5 broken bar stools, an inflatable guitar, an exit door, another door to storage space, and the smell of old spilt liquor and urine. Not the most pleasant setup to pay $200 for. BUT we made the most of it considering the amount had already been paid. We were interrupted multiple times by employees fetching things from the storage closet and random guests who wanted to peek through the curtains to see what was on the other side. I believe my expectations were high based off prior experiences of booking private karaoke rooms at other establishments and assuming this would meet the standards. read more

Came here towards the very end of my night and wanted to pop in and see how it was. I signed up but there was a handful of people in front of me so I didn't know if I would get to sing. I'm sure the vibes change from day to day with the crowds but I'd say there was a variety of people there, older, college kids, bachelorette party, wedding party. It definitely gives dive bar energy and drinks are affordable which was nice. Everyone was quite friendly there and it's a great place to just be a spectator if you don't like to sing. lol I actually got called up to sing just before they shut down and everyone was really vibin! I'll need to come back because I didn't get to spend much time there but all in all it was a fun time even going solo. read more

I stumbled upon this place late on a weekday with a couple of friends after a party and I'm so glad I did. First off, we found great parking which can be trying on King street. There was no cover and it was Country Night! The energy in this place was so live, it felt like a house party with all of your closest friends.Though we didn't get any food, their kitchen is open late and I was thrilled to learn that. It was fairly easy to get a drink even though it was super busy; that was lovely. I went with one of the frozen drinks, there were several to pick from. However. Be advised, the slushy itself was tasty but they're really only pounded with well liquor. Nonetheless, drinks were not at all pricey and we had a great time. I will 100% be bringing my friends by when they visit me in Charleston. read more

I usually go here when I have friends visiting from out of town and want to do a fun activity. I also frequent here on Monday and Tuesdays when there is no line and it's easy to go up and have a cheap shot, sing a song and onto the next place. Usually the crowd is super encouraging and it's a silly, no pressure environment. The drinks are super affordable and it's usually easy to get up to the bar and grab a drink. The only down side is the bathrooms are small and a bit gross- definitely could use some updating. Other than that a great spot for a night out- be sure to sing a song with Guitar man! read more

Walker and Mattie (sorry I guessed) but he looks like max from new Amsterdam, rock. The wizard rocks and so does the cool bouncer guys who I regrettably did not ask for their names. I watched Walker and Mattie cut someone off and they did it so professionally. I've been bartending since I was 18. Mattie really tried to reason with him and then the guy thought it was a good idea to swing at guest and the bartenders who are built like D1 linebackers. We all saw how that turned out. I'll save that story for another time. Mattie was our main bartender cause Walker came in sometime later around close. Both kept checking on us. I had like 3 raspberry white claws and a Jameson and ginger. My drinks were cold and they even gave my ice for claw. I really honestly wish I had an ounce of their patience. I'd be a better woman I swear. They really made the place feel like I was in joes dive bar from greys anatomy which an accomplishment in itself. I can't wait to go back. My 2 sons and I met at Bangkok Lounge for 3 evenings over the Thanksgiving holiday. The bar staff was friendly, drinks were good and reasonably priced. The happy crowd was a mixture of regulars and non-regulars and was very diverse. Each night they had a KJ (karaoke jockey) spinning the tracks for us to sing to. One regular in particular, whom we affectionately called guitar guy., was a total vibe as he sang, played his blowup guitar, and was very social with everyone. This is a fun (tiny) spot for karaoke. Drinks aren't so expensive. If you get there early enough, you can get a table. We arrived around 9 before they were too busy and were able to sit there for the night. Expect to tip in order to sing. You also don't have an idea of when you sing unless you download whatever app is they use. They appear to have some regulars, unless these were people who paid $$$ to sing multiple times. Yesterday's experience was definitely not as pleasant. To reserve a special table for $350, I found that it was not what I expected it to be like. I had to get the attention of one of the bartenders to help me and to have to go to the bar to order drinks in a crowded small spaced area was a bit stressful. Then the dj guy was not the friendliest. The bartender told me to scan the QR code to add my name on the cue for 3 skips by identifying ourself as Blythe's party. The QR code was down and the dj was very rude saying I had to wait like everyone else. Also, the other bartender wasn't nice either and had to flag down the other bartender to help us get noticed! I was truly unhappy with this experience especially since we were there for a special occasion for the bride to he's bachelorette party of 5 people. We tried to make the most of it but only stayed for 1.5 hours. Me and my friends waited 2 hours and our name wasn't called to perform. We were tired of waiting and left. The DJ is able to control the list of who performs and kept pushing other performers ahead of us. $5 coverage charge for a place that's the size of a shoe box. I won't be going back. My group of four were there for a solid three hours. We arrived at 8:20pm and left at 11:20pm. In that time, we each only got to sing one time. Meanwhile, we saw folks that knew the KJ going up time and time again. I waited an hour before asking where we were in the queue and he said we had 20 people in front of us. This was single-handedly the best bar I've ever visited, and it set a new standard for me in the world of karaoke bars. It's a timeless classic, a bar ahead of its time, and the bar I needed at this moment in my life. I'll never forget when Matt Daddy performed "Play That Funky Music" because as someone who is spiritual and not religious, it spoke to me in a way I thought only God could. Took forever to get to my song (I signed up right after someone and they sang within 10-15 minutes and I took nearly an hour for me to sing). All I wanted was a little dive bar to sing karaoke in while my buddy was buying booze at this little hole in the wall liquor store on King St. glanced across the way and man, this place screams DIVE BAR in your face so hard, with a karaoke sign to boot and a PBR bucket for cigarette butts outside. I had to go. Matty Lane was the bartender and he was the epitome of friendly and fun. We designed a new drink together, the Jameson Pimple. It was silly and fun and everything you remember a dive bar being when you were 22. Jeremiah was the KJ, which is a weird term for me. He sang some Frank Sinatra in a gorgeous voice and then the fun started. There were four people in there who appeared to be regulars, also a staple for a dive. I love this place and I'm sad I live so far away. Also, everyone working there wore their masks if you're worried about that kind of thing. He just pulled it down for our photo. I'll be honest, I am disappointed. We reserved a private room charged hourly confirmed via email. On the night of, some people were charged a cover fee; no policy was provided for this. After leaving the party to discuss with front staff more than once, our covers were refunded and our reservation was honored. Observed to be an internal communication/staff issue, felt inappropriate and baseless. The room is tight and no ventilation (a ceiling fan circulates hot air). Song selection was nice so two stars. Just a heads up, they cut off karaoke 20 minutes before closing time. Our group had waited an hour and a half for our song to come on and were two songs away from going on when the karaoke emcee ended karaoke for the night. Some of us in our group are from out of town and were looking forward to doing karaoke. Decided to start the night at a higher rated bar on Google, so there we were--drinking. We grabbed a table in the back on the 2nd floor and watched the brave, inebriated souls get in front the mic while a sizable group of rowdy college girls were cheering them on. The bar was not what we expected from the name, but wow--the place sure does have a positive and festive mood. Our group of older guys definitely enjoyed it and regretted not staying longer. prolly one of my top 10 most favorite bars. the capacity is limited, so you may have to wait in line (heads up its a $5 cash cover) but its worth it. once youre inside its an actual party. they have fun, trash bar food for purchase if youre hungry and dont go if you have a headache because its loud. not sure if its just the night we went but literally everyone was so nice and just wanted to party. definitely a great place to go with a group. read more
