Came in on a sunny afternoon, first customer in the door. Nice big space with lots of ceiling to floor windows. Met Lisa/Bartender super friendly and made us feel very welcome. This is a popular neighborhood bar and was told lots of dart and pool players hang. By the way, this is the only bar on Dolores St which is a claim to fame. After a fantastic Yelp Elite event, some new friends and I stumbled upon this bar for a night cap since it was close to home. One of the new friends and fellow Yelpers knew the bartender, Lisa, so we all enjoyed a few more beers and cocktails to round out the night. Lisa was a great host and didn't rush us out as we stayed until a little after closing. I was also able to get a game of pool in with one of the regulars as well. It's a shitty, stinking dive bar, obviously, but the bartender seemed completely put out by our requests for BASIC cocktails. I indicated that we'd keep our tab open after being served our first round, and was completely ignored. No one else in there except some regular who was shitfaced and annoying, so it's not like she was slammed. As pitiful as the drinks were, we actually did want a second round but the bar gal ignored us and the second gal coming onto her shift pretended not to see us. Again, the place was dead. We left. Damon and Lee have created a fantastic bar that's been a beloved San Francisco spot for years. I have been a loyal supporter and truly value the community they built. My experience soured due to harmful actions by bartender Mary, her boyfriend Damien (who does not work at the bar), and Kim (another bartender who got involved despite missing the original incident). One evening, Mary was drinking whiskey on shift while her dog appeared unwell nearby. As friends who had plans to get our nails done the following week, I offered to take the dog out for some air when she did not respond. I stepped outside for 60 seconds, returned immediately, and explained what happened. She seemed upset at first, but it appeared resolved at the time. Damien (around 6 feet tall and 200 pounds) escalated the situation aggressively by dragging me outside, yelling at me with a closed fist raised, and using a racially insensitive slur (a variation of the n-word). This was deeply terrifying for me as a Black woman who is 5 feet 3 inches tall and about 120 pounds. It was not the first time either, he had previously shouted at me when I jokingly asked for a glass of water, though he later apologized, saying that is how he talks to friends. I accepted that and moved forward as adults. A week later, I returned to the bar calmly to clarify the situation and even apologize for any confusion about the dog. Instead, Mary called the police, falsely claiming I had threatened her and that I was banned from the bar (both untrue). Six officers arrived and, after hearing my side, confirmed I was within my rights as a customer and that while she was not required to serve me, others certainly could. They all comforted me while I cried because I could not believe the escalation. I complied fully and left peacefully. Despite this, Mary and now Kim (who was not even present for the original issue) continue to deny me service, blacklist me, and spread false stories, like me trying to steal her dog, to other bartenders and patrons across San Francisco. This defamation has real consequences: people I have known for years now avoid me, harming my deep community ties here, where my family has roots, and my professional reputation in human resources, where trust is everything. Mary has also openly admitted to me and others that she takes unpaid shots while on shift. She previously bragged about getting a Black male bartender fired by sending footage of a messy bar to the owner, then later denied it, showing a pattern of inconsistent and harmful behavior. This ongoing exclusion, harassment, and slander must end. I deeply respect Damon and Lee's hard work and want everyone to thrive and make money in this tough economy, but the actions of these staff members undermine the inclusive, welcoming environment they have created. Update: I am pursuing legal action and have a meeting with an attorney next week. I have never received an apology or a chance to discuss the situation, and so many people are now shaming me and my name because of a complete misunderstanding. The owners have decided I am no longer welcome, and I fully respect that. I want everyone to be happy and to make money in this economy. If the bar must be held liable, I will likely drop the suit, but if I can stop Mary and Damien from continuing to harm my reputation, then I will do so. Because I am being honest, I am happy to swear on a Bible about this experience and why this matter is completely ridiculous and unjust. Black people, women especially, are unfairly targeted in the US, and the one place that was a haven, the Bay Area, is now seeing that inclusion spread thin. I refuse to lay down and say it's okay. It is not. The optics do not lie, and yet again I am having to stand up for myself without a single human being supporting me. It hurts, but I won't let this ruin others' good experiences at the bar. Do better and be better, life is short, and there's no need to continue spreading hate. read more

**Disappointing Experience at a So-Called Bears Bar** We went 30 minutes out of our way to visit what we thought would be an amazing Bears bar, only to leave thoroughly disappointed. Despite the atmosphere being advertised as all about the Bears, a drunk customer was allowed to repeatedly blast Alicia Keys during key plays of the game. It ruined the entire experience for us, especially since no one at the bar seemed to care enough to stop it. If you're looking for a place to enjoy a Bears game, this is NOT it. This is an awesome neighborhood bar in Noe. It's a chicago bar with lots of TVs. They play all the sports and will play all the chicago and bay area games. You know you're in the right place when there's plenty of locals from the neighborhood around at 2pm on a Friday. Everyone here was so friendly and nice. Every first friday of the month they have DJ at night and every tuesday they do bingo. Most beers seemed to be $5-7 and they have a beer and a shot for $2 extra deal. They have shuffleboard and a pool table in the back. There's also a wall where you can leave a drink for someone else. I think that's an awesome idea. Oh yea, it's cash only too. read more

DISCRIMINATION ! I came here on Sunday Jan 7 to watch a football game with my boyfriend. Walked in and gave the female bartender my ID. She was taking a while with my ID. I figured she was scanning it bc I am from New York so she wanted to make sure it wasn't fake, no problem. My boyfriend had left his ID at the Airbnb so when the bartender gave me mine back we told her he left it and we will be back with it. We knew we couldn't be in the bar since he didn't have his ID, no problem. We left and came back with his ID and he gave it to her. I didn't give her mine bc she already checked it and scanned it. When he gives her his ID she says "ok now this looks like a real ID" and says that mine looks fake meanwhile she already scanned mine and it was fine. My New York ID is the old one bc it was issued when I turned 21 in 2011. My boyfriends ID is the new one issued in 2015 or 2016 because he had lost his. So I ask her "what do you mean mine looks fake ? They were issued in different years that's why they look different" I even offered to show her the name on my credit cards if she thought I was trying to fake it. She said "no it's not about that" I asked "so what is it about" She says "It looks fake to me. I scanned it and everything but I don't know. Let me see it again" Now I am annoyed because you already checked my ID, you scanned my ID, and now you want to see it and scan it again. If my ID was an issue why didn't you say anything when I gave it to you the first time ?! And wtf you have a scanner for if your not going to trust it?! So I give it to her and now she is looking at my ID and my boyfriends ID and comparing it and then she brings it to the end of the bar where the scanner is. While she is doing this a man (older white man) at the bar turns to my boyfriend and says "SHE IS GOING TO CALL ICE ON YOU. YOU DONT BELONG HERE. YOUR LUCKY IF YOU GET THOSE IDS BACK" wtffffff ?! Like how and why is immigration even brought up ?! Oh I know, because my boyfriend and I are both Hispanic. So the bartender comes back and gives us our IDs and says "I'm sorry" I ask what does that mean ? "She says I can't serve you guys I don't trust your ID" and the same guy that mentions ICE says "Leave" I have NEVER experienced anything like this before !! In all the different cities in the US both my boyfriend and I have been to and in Europe I have never been denied service bc my ID looks "fake" or bc of my race. My ID looking "fake" was just an excuse for not wanting Hispanics in that bar and I know this because the customer (who seemed to be a regular) brought up immigration and that "we don't belong" there. Jim W. died today on the break-room floor in Dublin. He was a decent man who always wore a polo, who drove for Disney before he came to work for us, who just quit smoking, and was so happy for it. He always packed a peanut butter sandwich for lunch cut diagonally, in a BART blue lunch pail, with a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos. He didn't have a family, so far as any of us can tell. He was the nicest guy in the breakroom, always welcoming, always willing to laugh at my shitty jokes, always willing to commiserate over a jumper, always...there. He was a good dude. It was a heart attack. A fucking heart attack at 52, the year after he quit smoking. The breakroom's air conditioning never quite worked, and the last thing he felt was the tepid, sweating linoleum. The last thing he saw was the newly installed acoustic tile. What a shitty way to go. In our line of work, death is external. Its the train coming toward you at 70, its the third rail hot with 1000 volts, its the Meth-head overdosing, its the cancer you get the week after you retire, its the fire in the Transbay Tube, its the earthquake in the Berkeley Hills Tunnel. A heart attack though? He'd barely clocked in, his perfect peanut butter sandwich and bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos untouched. Someone had to take his train, you know?! Someone had to complete his assignment as the coroner walked into the breakroom, and everyone else waited for theirs, and a foreworker filled out a report, and a supervisor made motions of grief, their lunch warming in their office with e-mails to answer. He didn't have a family, but he had us, and he was from Illinois. A Cubs fan from a little town in the middle of nowhere. He didn't really drink, but he didn't have anyone to drink for him, so I ended up at the BAR on Dolores, a Chicago Flag upon the ceiling, Goose Island on tap. Its dark inside, but they play bears games and put out a buffet, and make sure people are welcome. Walls of pine, and the Modern Drunkard's 86 rules of Boozing, and a shuffleboard table, and stools of wood, and a solid bar. Ain't many places like it around anymore. So I sat, and I had a Goose Island (he preferred Old Style, the one time a year he would drink, at a Cubs game), and a shot of Fernet because there's no Mallort for a thousand miles. I listened to the playlist and bullshitted with the bartender and the regulars, because it was the only Chicago bar for miles, and because Jim didn't have anyone else to drink for him, but was a damn nice guy, and it was a damn nice bar, and man...a fucking heart attack. Poked my head in to check on US World Cup and stayed for the entire game. I can't speak to the racist comment but I found the place cheerful and friendly with an enthralled mixed crowd at the bar yelling "up with the revolutionaries - down with the British!!!" Maybe be it's officially called something else now ( like 'the bar on Dolores' instead of Dolores Corner....whatever ....) but there's a bar here, and I like it. Darts, a pool table, ton of TVs and alcohol, but no food. Nobody cares if you bring your own or have something delivered ( in fact the barkeeps will even make recs abt food close by, or who will deliver.) No table service, not a single hipster, and nothing fancy, but a great place to watch a game. My only complaint is men who use the woman's bathroom and jank it all up. Let's just say I witnessed a 19 year old enter this bar without getting ID'd. No one was at the entrance to check on ID's. The ONLY bartender on a Friday night (why only 1 bartender?) was SUPER rude and had no control of the crowd when a fight was about to break out. The so called bar tender Damian felt at liberty to yell at a woman to "Shut the fuck up". By far, worst experience at a bar. Don't want to contribute to a place that allows underage drinking and condones men mistreating women. read more
