The quality of service has really gone downhill recently. The cut is too fast and inaccurate with a lot of mistakes. In addition the guy cutting my hair smelled like cigarette smoke and was coughing consistently which caused some concern. Too many other options for a higher quality cut. read more

I've had Rob before but Jason "the beard" is my go to guy . This is your typical friendly neighborhood barber where the barbers know their clients and community and their community knows them. I give this place a 2.5/5, it's the closet to my house but I'll only go here if I'm desperate and my barber is out of town. I don't trust barbers that have you face away from the mirror while they're cutting. I've had my hair cut by the owner, older lady, who's not that good and she smells of cigarettes. If I see her through the window I'll usually go elsewhere. There's a guy that works there who's not bad, he may not be anymore as it's been a while since I saw him. I went there a 3rd time and was cut by someone else who was ok. I'll go here if I'm in a pinch but definitely not my 1st or 2nd option read more

Asked for a low fade.. got a high and tight. Doesn't look bad but maybe if the hairdresser was more focused on what I asked for then the TV I wouldn't be writing this review. She faced me away from the mirror so she could watch tv and I couldn't see what she was working on and by the time I figured it out it was too late. Just got up and left. Don't go here unless the cable is out or you'll get a half focused hairdresser. Can't speak for all the workers but this particular woman was not good. read more

I recently moved from Herndon to Oakton and needed to find a new shop. One of two hair cutting places in a pretty small shopping center in Oakton. The other is a Hair Cuttery. My preference has always been for barber shops over hair cut places (as a man) for their general non-nonsense approach to haircuts and cheap prices. This place was a little too no-nonsense, with the woman who cut my hair seemingly rushing through my haircut without much visible interest in getting me what I wanted. Despite the shop being empty, I felt rushed through. The price, at $15.99 for an adult male haircut ($14.99 for a child) was a bit more than I am used to paying, but reasonable for a good haircut. My old barbershop was $12-14 for the same haircut, but they would take a good bit longer (less rushed, not "slow"). The decor at this place is ok. Small (four chairs), lots of kitschy signs, country music station on the TV. It's clean and organized and there's comfortable seating for waiting. read more

This is the Is review I ever wrote.... for any business: I have to give it to a modern barber shop that brings back that "old school feel" who not only can be relied on to give a great haircut but honestly gives you a sense that they don't look at you as just a revenue source. If you want a great cut and often a humorous conversation... you would be wise to try them out. I have not found a better one in DC yet. I'm now a loyal customer! Everyone at the shop are great... but I recommend Jason... as his brand of sarcastic rhetoric fits my style. Background Story: I planned to go to get a cut from the Barber Shop yesterday to find that the parking lot was being renovated and they had to close for the day. I took the chance on the Hair Cutlery, in the same location, and despite the reduction in charge, was less than satisfied with the lopsided/stair stepped result. To be fair, the individual who cut my hair was very nice and apologetic, but I should have expected challenges from a place that proportionally deal with women's hair. Today when I had my cut fixed by the Barber Shop, not only did they salvage my disaster, but told me it was not that uncommon. I will not make that mistake again! read more

Maybe, because I was getting a senior discount the barber was in a hurry. There was no one waiting, and it was mid day, weekday. She spent a total of five minutes cutting my hair, didn't shave the back of my neck nor layer the hair. My glasses were in my car, and I didn't realize until I got home and looked in the big mirror the poor job she had done. I was sorry I didn't use the Hair Cuttery (about six store fronts away) on the same small strip. read more

I went in for a medium fade - the fade was uneven on the sides, too much was taken from the top (and unevenly), and I have very long missed hairs behind my ears still. not really worth the $25. read more

Went in for a hair cut and a bear trim. Guy didn't even bother to ask my name or say much of anything to me. The first 5 minutes he and the woman spent complaining about not being tipped enough by different customers. I had asked for a skin fade and when he said he was done it was simply buzzed on the sides. I asked for a skin fade again to which he begrudgingly used an electric shaver to mildly clean it up while jokingly calling me a pain in the ass (not appreciated. Your job is to cut hair based on what the customer asks.) It just felt like he was trying to rush the hair cut and get me out the door. He lightly trimmed the edges of my beard but did not edge up my cheeks or neck (usually some shaving of these areas is involved). He didn't even blend my sideburns into the skin fade. I still tipped him $2 on a $19 haircut but I'm sure as soon as I walked out the door he and the lady there probably continued to complain about lacking tips. Maybe tips would be more plentiful if the service was completed with some semblance of customer service and quality. I won't be back. read more

I'm thinking it was Rob that cut my hair. I came in with a mess, hadn't cut my hair in a few months, and he cleaned it up great. He didn't do what I asked, and in a good way. I asked for really high sides, and he advised me against it. Went for the strong undercut on the sides, tapered, and layered. He gave me what I wanted, that looked good on me. Best haircut I've gotten in the 2010's, and I feel bad about saying that. My barber back in San Antonio, TX did take good care of me. read more

No longer a young man, having had the same barber for some 35 years, and being familiar with barbering services on 4 continents, I developed certain expectations. The first is that no haircut does not begin without a thorough shampoo and conditioner, selected according to the needs of the client (dandruff, itching, dryness, overly oily, ....); these also essential as a matter of sanitation. The second expectation is that no barber (vs. hair stylist or beautician) does not offer a proper straight razor shave, preferably with a hot towel. While the haircut and beard trim I received were certainly competent, the above criteria were not met. I will keep looking. read more

Excellent spot in Oakton. Rob gave me a haircut and it was well done. Unfortunately, I'll be moving in a couple of weeks and not likely to return. However, I would highly recommend The Barber Shop & Co. Quick (but not poorly done like some places) and a good price. I might try and sneak one more stop in before the move to Old Town. read more

I went there for the first time the other day and had a great experience. I don't remember the name of the guy who gave me the cut but he knew exactly what I wanted after I described it to him. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The decorations in the shop are very cool and the TV was turned to Spike which was nice to watch. It may be a little bit more pricey than some other barbershops but he did a good job, was fast, and was friendly. read more

My husband had been here a few times and got a decent haircut so he went back. I was watching, waiting for him to finish. He had the barber that sits closest to the back wall. While he was cutting hair, his eyes were half closed and he kept slurring his words and swaying slightly on his feet. A few times, he gripped my husbands head to steady himself. At the time, I thought, maybe he's just a little strange, maybe this is how he cuts hair. I was trying not to think the worst. As he was cutting, he was taking large chunks out of my husbands hair. Still, I didn't say anything because I was hoping it would be okay and the guy would fix it. He spun my husband around and showed him his hair. At this point we knew something wasn't right and my husband just wanted to get out of there so he told him it looked good. Then the guy said he wanted to fix one more thing and he took a close clipper to the back of his head and cut a big chunk off. I didn't say anything and I should have. When my husband saw the huge section of hair missing from the back of his head, he immediately got out of the chair and told the guy that he got a little close. At this point, the barber got aggressive and was forcefully telling my husband to get back in the chair so he could fix it... all the while slurring his words. At this point, I stepped in and said, "come on, let's go". We actually paid for it and left to avoid an altercation. There were two other people working and neither one said a word and they let that man who I'm sure they knew was under the influence of something cut customers' hair.
