The "policy" is that they can charge if you don't arrive within 15 minutes of their call but enforcing this so harshly is not great practice for customer service...especially given how hard it is to get around in NYC. I honestly don't even know where to start! The booking experience was easy and was able to be done directly from the website. There was a change to our original scheduled appointment but they manager was so helpful and accommodating.The staff is friendly and attentive. I was able to bring Benji in early and he was also ready for pickup early than they told us which was a plus. They promised not to cage him while he was receiving his service which is something I loved and they kept their promise. The communication when arriving regarding his service so detailed. The groomer Brittney asked what look I was going for and even took him to the back to check ahead of time about his potential matting that could alter the look so she could honestly tell me whether or not she will be able to achieve the desired look I was going for. I really appreciated that and she did that so I knew what to expect when picking him up and thankfully she was able to give me exactly the cut I wanted. Benji seemed happy and comfortable with staff upon pickup, we also received a complimentary ball and spray that smells amazing with our Premium Service. If I could give this place 10 stars - I would. I came in with my dog, Thor, for an appointment at 11am and he was taken right away. Thor doesn't have the best experience with groomers, but I thought that maybe he just didn't like his previous groomer and that this time he'd be a lot calmer -- boy, was I wrong. He was seen by Dominique and she told me that it would be ~2hrs and it ended up being a little over 2hrs which was fine with me because I know how Thor can be. When I went to go pick him up, I was immediately greeted by the sound of a dog barking and whining extremely loud and I just knew that it was Thor. When he came out, Melissa (the owner of The Barke Shoppe), came out and told me that Thor did not allow the groomer to complete his groom. I, of course, was a little let down but not shocked. But, Melissa, reassured me that he would not stay undone and she immediately booked me an appointment for the next day with a different groomer. I loved that they did not force him to be groomed if he was already obviously very stressed so I really appreciated this. This next appointment came at no extra cost and I was paired with Shaina. This time I sat and waited in the shop and I was very surprised when Thor was quiet for the length of the cut. Shaina took approx. 30 minutes and when she came out, Thor was completely cleaned up and didn't seem stressed at all. Shaina then talked to me for about 15 more minutes about how to go about getting him used to grooming and tips/tricks on how to get him acclimated to the grooming experience! As a first-time dog owner, I really appreciated this and it made me feel a lot more comfortable with the entire experience. This review is for Bark Shoppe's (earlier known Paw Prints of Harlem) products for pets. I have been hearing great things about Bark Shoppe from my friends who have been taking their dogs for grooming to Bark Shoppe ever since they opened. Not only do they rave about the excellent job the groomers do but also their customer service and their professionalism which speaks volumes about a business. They recently launched their product line of shampoos, sprays etc for the pets and I asked one of my friends to pick up a freshener spray for my mastiff pup. I got the sweet pea and it smelled so much like my favorite bath and body works spray by the same name. This works great to use in between showers so your dogs always smells good and fresh. Little bit goes a long way.The sweet pea smell lingered on the my pup for few days and did not smell too strong yet smelled sweet. Can't wait to try more or their products and hopefully visit them soon for a grooming session for my pup. Harlemites if you haven't taken your dog to Barke Shoppe yet or haven't tried their products yet please do so asap and I assure you, you won't regret it. I have been going to The Bark Shoppe faithfully for two years, and honestly I'm tired of being anxious every time I go there for a full grooming, because the groomers are likely to default to saying they need to shave my pup even though I pay for the premium service to have him dematted. I do a pretty good job of combing and brushing my dog and I try to take him to TBS to get a pup & fluff (bathing and brushed) in between full groomings to keep him manageable. I even have a dematting brush at home. When I take him in for Pup & Fluffs I never get any pushback about his coat. They bathe him, brush him out nicely, and send him home with me. But when it's time for a cut, they for some reason always give me the terrible news that he needs to be shaved. It makes me feel taken advantage of because they are telling me to spend more money by coming in to do the Pup & Fluffs between cuts...and I do. Yet their groomers still end up shaving without even trying to salvage. The other concern is that the groomers are always different when I go, so he looks different every time he's groomed. He is a doodle and they seem not to know what a doodle cut is. We used to be able to pick our preferred groomer but it seems that feature is gone, and even if it were there, the turnover for groomers seem to be high. It's hard to see on their social media the work and cutting style of particular groomers. Unfortunately, I may need to find another local groomer that is not walking distance from me. read more

However, on our second visit there was a new haircutter and she accidentally nicked my dogs right eye and cut off all the lashes on that same eye. Within 2 days the eye was oozing and I had to take her to the vet. $300 dollars later (including haircut) I advised the shoppe what happened and never heard from them again. I especially love the personalized attention given to my pups as well as how gentle they are since my Yorkie has arthritis in his front legs and Legg-Calve Perthes Disease in his back legs, so he needs a gentle touch. First, I would like to say that I have written maybe three reviews in my life. That being said, this place needed a review. For the past year, I have boarded my dog here maybe 3 or 4 times. I have always had exceptional care. Before boarding my dog, Deuce, I received a thorough walk through of the establishment which I was immediately surprised by the cleanliness and the smiles on the dogs faces. Regarding his boarding experience, my dog always comes back happy and looks happy on all of the images they send throughout his stay. I once made an appointment at different place by accident and my dog was still taken in. I also forgot food (was in a rush home due to a family funereal) and Melissa told me not to worry about it and purchased his exact food. My dog does not like boarding (boards about three times a year) and I've tried other places in Harlem but this place makes us both happy. read more

I'm a first time dog owner. My Zoe is a 7 month old mini goldendoodle. I love her puffy fluff, but I thought it was time for a trim. I was nervous because I've read that people are often disappointed with their groomers because they give them a "poodle cut" rather than a "doodle cut". I went on Yelp and Paw Prints of Harlem came up. I made an appointment for a Saturday. The place is very welcoming, cute and clean. I was greeted right away and asked what I was looking to do. I went all out and got the package that had it all (nails, hair cut, bath, ears). I did tell them I didn't want her shaved too low, specially in the face. I was told it would take about 2 hours, I went around the corner to Harlem Tavern to grab a bite. When I came back and saw Zoe...I was shocked...in a GOOD way. I couldn't believe that was my dog! She looked AWESOME! I honestly didn't know she could look like that! The moment we stepped out we had people complimenting how cute she was. I booked my appointment for this Sunday for a bath. The have a special "Pup & Fluff" for $30. I do have to point out my awkward moment. When it was time to pay, I let the husband take care of it. He used his American Express, we walked out and I asked him "how much did you tip?". He says "oh, there was no tip option when I paid. I didn't." I was so embarrased - I ran back to tip them cash. I have taken mine and my friend's dog to The Bark Shoppe since 2020, but like many other reviews outline lately, 2022 has been a very negative experience and I won't be returning. For one appointment, they insisted I send updated vaccination records when I had already provided them. A simple computer glitch, I thought, so I wrote it off. They also seemed to default to shaving the dogs, rather than doing a cut with scissors. On one occasion, they would ask what length I would want my double coated Australian Shepherd cut to pointing at a sampling of different shave lengths. I had to go out of my to make sure they knew and understood not to shave my double-coated dog because it would damage his coat. Though they followed this insistence, they pulled too hard on a tangle behind my dog's ear and tore the skin, and I only found that after he got home. No explanation, no notice, and no apology. And yet I gave them another chance, because mats and tangles are difficult to deal with. Unfortunately this one broke the camel's back (so to speak). They seem to have introduced a bunch of new agreements and waivers that include liability waivers. Given the prior experience with my dog, and the fact that I didn't know about the waivers when booking the appointment (they're not on the website, but provided as a Google Form through a QR code on checkin) I wanted to cancel the appointment, but they told me they would charge a cancellation fee to do so. They also then told me that despite booking the same Puff and Fluff I've booked before that a sanitary trim was no longer included and would cost extra. At that point, I made a scene and insisted on talking to a manager, but of course one wasn't available. Though they did waive the charge for the sanitary, the only reason I didn't cancel right then was that I booked with a debit card and wouldn't have been able to dispute the cancellation fee. The bath they ended up doing was acceptable, but that doesn't erase this experience. What really has bothered me most is the inconsistency and lack of customer service. It's fine if a policy has changed, but that needs to be communicated before someone prepays for a service. What's more, the staff didn't seem to care about the poor communication when given feedback about what happened on any of these cases and I had to make a scene to get my dog the care and attention he deserved. I did want to at least bring these up to the owner, as I really value women owned and small businesses, but after staff told me after voicing concerns at my last appointment that she would be in touch, I never even got a call or email. And even if they did reach out at this point, there's really nothing else to say except "You've lost my business." read more

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and go above and beyond for their customers. The environment they create for the pups is amazing, my dog is very comfortable with all the staff and I feel confident that he's in good hands while there. So I'm very cautious of where I take my dog (Bella, 4lb Yorkie) and my first visit with The Bark Shoppe went extremely well. Bella received a beautiful cut within a timely manner and upon picking her up she was not shaking but seemed like she was comfortable with the groomer and the facility. The second time I tried The Shoppe I believe the owner (lovely lady) was at the front desk and told the groomer (different groomer from last time) what Bella had done before, which trimmer she should use and sent me on my way. Now I usually just hang out around the neighborhood or run a few errands while Bella gets her cut but I had to go to work so I paid, tipped and let them know my mom would be picking Bella up. I was sure everything would turn out fine however when I got home, Bella's hair was very choppy, none of her private areas were sanitarily trimmed and she was still very shaken up from when my mom picked her up earlier that day. I was really disappointed! So I did a review through the link the store sends you via text but no one ever got back to me so I decided to go elsewhere. My suggestion to the owner/her staff is to review those questionnaires they send us or have that system notify you whenever a low review is made so you can review the problem, contact the owners and try to fix it. read more

Came here twice. Very upset. Do not go here. Although I showed pictures and spoke to the groomers directly who wrote notes, my dog did not look like himself when they were done. They give every dog the same cut, no matter the breed. But he seemed like he was in good spirits, so we tried again a second time as we really wanted to support this local business, and my sweet calm dog chewed up his harness from the stress of being caged up. The owner is extremely rude and approached me with attitude! Where do I begin... I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE The Bark Shoppe and recommend it to all my dog owning friends and even people I meet at dog parks. I take my baby Hershey there for everything. His baths, haircuts, and even boarding. My baby never liked getting baths but now soon as he enters The Barke Shoppe he feels like it's his home away from home. He absolutely loves the staff. And they treat him so well. I love all the staff there. But Jeter is my go to person. He already knows how particular I am about Hershey and ensures I leave satisfied. It's super clean. I'm so disappointing to have to write a negative review for a business I've frequented for several years, but they have left me no other option. In early June, I took my dog Lola in for grooming services and when I picked her up she was completely panicked. At first i figured that she was just anxious, but when I got home I realized that there was a trail of blood throughout my apartment and that my dog was bleeding quite badly from a nail that had clearly been cut too short. I immediately called The Bark Shoppe and spoke to Jeter who told me that Lola's nail had likely been cut too short but that it probably didn't open up until she started walking on the concrete. Jeter even followed up by sending me texts with links of how to care for a dogs nail when cut too short. The bleeding was so bad that she actually bled through her bandages TWICE. I went back in the next morning and ask to for a refund to compensate for all the damage to my property and Jeter told me to email the owner, Melissa, as she was not in that day. I did as suggested, and explained in the email, in detail what had happened. When Melissa responded she told me that since Lola was not seen bleeding at The Bark Shoppe they would not refund me because they "have very strict policies regarding accidents". I responded asking for a copy of the policy because I couldn't find it on their website or in any of the emails we had exchanged over the several years I've taken my dog here. Melissa replied that it was listed on the grooming registration form which I had signed. I asked for a copy and upon reviewing it, I found absolutely NO MENTION whatsoever of this policy. I even had others look at it and nowhere did it state what she was claiming. I reached out again to Melissa and to request a refund at which point she stopped responding. I am beyond disheartened by Melissa's lack of professionalism. It is one thing to outright lie, but then to not respond at all was just a slap in the face. Especially since my family and I have been loyal costumers for years before this experience. (Even after previously being charged late drop-off or pick-up fees that were not fairly explained.) Melissa, take a good look at the pictures here of my dog and try to explain your policy once more. Needless to say - definitely don't take your pets here if you're thinking about it. And if you're currently a patron, I highly recommend seeking out another groomer (or at the very least don't let Dominique service your pets. read more

Just got my dog back from his first trip to Paw Prints. It's always a bit of a worrisome experience when you drop your pup off at a new groomer (especially since people never seem to be short on horror stories from their past experiences). But I felt safe and secure as soon as I walked in. The establishment is well designed and cozy too with a hot pink couch. The employees are very sweet and caring. They seem to be gentle, and according to the way my dog looks now-- they're very talented and thorough. They even delivered him back to my house free of charge (there is a 20 block limit to this feature) wearing a cute bandana that he did not previously own and with a bag of treats.
