This was my 3rd dinner at your restaurant, the renovations are beautiful. I really wanting my dinners to impress but they have been mediocre at best. My first visit I tried the fillet with the lobster gratin, the steak was over cooked and served lukewarm, my second meal was the scallops and I enjoyed them. Last night I had the featured pasta, it was a mess on the plate, I added on the lobster cake, it was a mistake. Had a great lunch. Loved the fried Brussel sprouts, but everything was delicious. Definitely worth a return trip.

I will begin by telling you our service was excellent. She was engaging and attentive. I ordered the crab cake which I thought was going to be broiled. I am relatively sure someone through it on a flat top and fried it. It was loaded with salt to the point I had two bites and sent it back. Allenberry's old broiled crab cakes were similar to Sunnyside Restaurant in their day, but this wasn't even close. To be fair they did take the dinner off the bill and give us a free desert. So, they definitely take their food seriously. I ended up emailing them after the experience, and also stated that two people in my party got some food poisoning as a result of the buffet. The restaurant manager (Chris) personally called me and apologized, conducted interviews with the chef and sous chef, and then proceeded to refund the entire amount of my check (5 adults + 1 child). This was a generous offer and I am willing to chalk this one experience to an aberration. Chris did invite me back to try their new winter menu, and I will create/update my review when I visit again. Went there for Brunch last Sunday! I stood at the Welcome station and was totally ignored, until I asked if I was invisible. There were two people there who had their backs to me the whole time. One of them, even answered the phone and I'm sure saw me on her peripheral vision. I could understand if the place was busy, it was not! The food was really delicious. I ate lunch on 5/12 with a party of 6 to celebrate Mother's Day early with my family. The remodel of the Allenberry is gorgeous, they did an amazing job. You are instantly transported to another place and time - and one you do not want to leave. I had been looking forward to trying out The Barn since I came for the open house last year, but after our experience, I am happy I decided not to have my wedding at the resort. Our server introduced herself as Jen and quickly notified us of the chicken tortilla soup (topped with tortilla strips & lime) and requested a drink order. Upon her return, we were not quite ready to order and asked for a few more minutes. She did not return for over 10 minutes. When we ordered, I asked about the smoked trout sandwich, and she stated it came on bread. I asked if it had skin, she stated the dinner portion did but she didn't think the sandwich did. I also asked if the bbq chicken sandwich was a breast or shredded, in which her reply was that it was shredded chicken. I ordered the crab cake based on her descriptions. We also ordered the butcher & dairy and calamari. We sat waiting for 20 mins for a meat and cheese platter with 4 crostini and fried calamari. I've had manicures take less time. The frustrating part was the dinning room was not full and none of the parties in the other rooms had arrived yet so there was no reason for us to wait so long. The rest of the dinning room had been served, which leads me to believe our server forgot to put in the order. At no point did she apologize for the wait and a manager had not checked in at all (entire dinning room) during service. The calamari was incredibly tender and the dipping sauce, while mayo-based, was spicy and flavorful. My only complaint was the calamari was clumped in a big ball (an indication of lack of attention while being fried). There wasn't one piece completely coated in breading, it had fallen off prior to being served or while trying to break it away from the massive ball-o-calamari. Luckily, the calamari and sauce was so good, we overlooked the other issues. We did ask for more dipping sauce but by the time she returned we had already finished the app. My husband ordered the chicken tortilla soup as his side. When it was served, I stated there wasn't any tortilla strips or lime with the soup. She stated the tortilla strips were on the bottom but would bring us more (which she did). There were no strips on the bottom. The soup was slightly sweet and overly seasoned with chili powder but a large portion. The butcher & dairy for $18 was small and unimpressive - I am going to guess the ingredients since we had no instruction - it was like a cured meat roulette of sorts (not necessarily a bad thing)- prosciutto, genoa salami, danish bleu cheese, indescribable Swiss like cheese, smoked trout (best thing on the plate). The plate was garnished with 4 crostinis, stone ground mustard, cranberry sauce, and a tapanade. Suggestions for improvement would be to include additional crostini or flatbread and some kind of pickled veggie. Also, the expo should describe what is on the plate as well. Our lunch arrived 15 minutes later with the wrong sides. We had 2 crab cakes both with french fries although one had a salad. The brioche roll was fresh as was the produce. We had two fish and chips - typical recipe and nice big pieces of cod. The fries were on the bottom of the basket and were cold as if they were tossed in prior to cooking the fish. The quiche was very nice, the cauliflower crust left it light and a great creative pie-crust alternative for my step-mother who has a restricted diet. The bbq chicken sandwich was delivered in breast form and just barely cooked all the way through. My sister took a one bite and ended up eating 1/2 of my crab cake sandwich. Remember now, our server told us it was shredded which is why my sister ordered it and I did not. When our meal was over we asked to see a desert menu which was a piece of coffee-stained wrinkled paper. We order four coffees, 2 chocolate tortes, and their famous sticky. My husband went to the bathroom when Jen returned with our coffee and spilled around 3 ounces of coffee on the table where my husband was sitting. Luckily he wasn't there or he would have been burnt. She never wiped it up, she dropped off 1 tiny sugar caddy and never returned to clean up her spill. I had to use my napkin. Our deserts were delivered within 10 minutes of ordering and were delicious. The sticky was amazing. At the end of the meal, I told the server the chicken was a breast and not shredded and she said "oh, they must have changed the menu." Yet again no apology for lack of knowledge, wrong sides, or time it took. The ambiance and decor of the resort is amazing. After our meal Eddie took us for a tour of the grounds and was charming and fun. He made our lunch experience less disappointing. Management really needs to look into their servers and consistency of food. read more

The restaurant was beautiful and we always love to drive around Boiling Springs but we will not return to eat here. My food was ok but I do not feel you get enough of it for the cost. I had the lamb and there was only a garnish on the plate with it. The menu described it as an entree. My hubby had the burger which was good and fries good. For over 25 years, my wife and I had been patrons of the theatre at Allenberry. Often, before the play, we enjoyed dinner at Allenberry's excellent buffets with shrimp and grilled vegetables and sliced steamship round. The quality of the food was legendary. On 13 May, we had your Mother's Day buffet with friends who attended at our suggestion, expecting the same high quality as in the past. We were horribly disappointed in what you passed off as a $34.95 "buffet". The salad bar was a disgrace with just a little lettuce, spinach and tomatoes. The salad dressing was served in carafes with no labels to identify what was inside and the exterior of each carafe was slimy with dressing that had run down the side. The salad table itself was sloppy and unkempt. The brisket was 75% fat and the sliced ham was dried out. The escalloped potatoes were dry with little or no sauce and this dish was simply sliced potatoes. The chicken was tolerable and the asparagus was done properly, although the tablecloths were all soiled due to spillage. As a final insult, you added 20% gratuity for a meal which was a do-it-yourself buffet where the waitress did nothing except clear the plates during the meal. Obviously, the legendary quality of Allenberry meals no longer exists. We would have had better food at a cheaper price by dining at Cracker Barrel. You can be assured that neither we nor any of our friends will dine with you again until we hear that the quality has been restored. read more

Went here for brunch October 1st. Made a reservation but didn't need one- not suited for parties of 5. The decor and ambiance here is amazing with awesome patio views of the fly fishing stream. I was disappointed in the service which took about 40 minutes to get our food and it arrived cold. The menu is small and has limited options for vegetarians. The prices are higher than other breakfast places in town and in my opinion the quality and service did not match. I really wanted to love this place and the experience but it was a big let down. They really need to step up their service and broaden their menu offerings in order to dominate the Boiling Springs brunch scene. read more

We had the Wagu burger and it was dry, burnt, and flavorless. And the fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Other tables around us complained of the same circumstances. In a time of uncertainty and inconsistency I turned to Allenberry to provide their brand of impeccable service and finely prepared menu. What I received was an example of an unprepared establishment that lacks experience and the normal standard of excellence. I was first disappointed by the lack of outdoor seating and the desperate attempt to draw patrons with a showcase of a disneyesque singer consuming the outside patio. After my party of two was seated at a table meant for six, a bottle of the house Cabernet Sauvignon was ordered to help settle the disappointment of having to sit inside on what was a beautiful summer evening. The waitress lacked experience and confidence and was not suitable for the amount of tables she was assigned. The service was slow and we eventually interacted with three different staff members to help expedite the stagnant time in which we received our food, desert and check. The tenderloin was luke warm when presented and lacked flavor. The trout was bland and lacked substance. The potatoes were like nothing I have tasted and nothing I desire to taste again. Dessert was even more disappointing as the Hot Lava cake seemed to be prepared in a microwave and the "seasonal creme brulee" had an orange flavor with an under caramelized sugar topping. After the disappointing presentation, we were left to sit waiting for our check for roughly 20 minutes until we felt it necessary to inform the host stand that we would like to pay for our overpriced experience and leave. Overall I was extremely disappointed in our visit to one of the better restaurants in the area. I look forward to when Allenberry has all the pieces in place to provide the standards of excellence they have provided in the past. Right now is not that time. read more

My previous visit to Allenberry restuarant was exquisite, however this time was very different. I could understand that there were no tables available outside, and that they could not give out bread because of Covid, but there were a few things I simply could not look past. Our server was very okay, she didn't offer us the specials, I had to ask what they were. She was not very experienced and most definitely not experienced in fine dining. The food was also very okay. I had the trout that had very little flavor and my boyfriend had the tenderloin that came out luke warm and also just okay. After waiting about 15 minutes to order dessert, our dessert was also disappointing. The lava cake seemed like it was microwaved too long and very dry and bland, and the "seasonal" creme brulee was not very good. After finishing our dessert, stacking our plates, and then piling our napkins on top our server brought wine to the table next to us and then continued on to take the orders of a table of 11 people without giving us our check. I had to go to the host stand to ask for the check. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in my experience as I have looked forward to coming back for a delicious meal (and willing to pay the high prices for excellent service) but this is not the experience I anticipated. I do not think my boyfriend and I will be back, I will take my money somewhere that can give me the full experience I am looking for. read more

Loved just about everything about our dinner at The Barn last night! It was a perfect night to be out on the covered balcony and our server Amanda provided us with excellent service. I've been here a few times before and have experienced some slow service on occasion but last night was perfect. All of our drinks, appetizers, and meals came out as expected and at a perfect pace for us to savor and enjoy. We enjoyed the sangria, wedge salad, crab cake meal, pasta special, charcuterie board, and waygu burgers. Everything was delicious! The creme brûlée was a little shallow but tasty. First off I must say the restaurants is BEAUTIFUL and the resort renovations are outstanding. The setting is second to none. However, we were very disappointed in the food being served. We have dined all over the world and without a doubt this was probably the most costly with the least value meal we've ever had. For the food that was served, it was WAY over priced!! I wonder what the owners feel about the food being served?? Our waiter was extremely accommodating, but he completely mixed up our order. He was VERY apologetic and we realize that these things can happen so we did not let it effect our opinion of the meal. The menu and food quality needs MAJOR improvement!! This was by far one of my favorite restaurants experiences in Pennsylvania! We found The Barn but didn't find any reviews on it and decided to give it a chance for my sister in laws bday. I had the NY Strip Steak and it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Everyone in our party loved the food and the ambiance, service was great and very friendly! Our waitresses name was Emily and we highly recommend her, she went over and beyond to make sure we were served well!! It's a new restaurant, but if they keep it up they will definitely stand out amongst the other restaurants in the area, we will be back! read more

The owners of Allenberry Resort have created a beautiful space to relax and enjoy the natural environment. Unfortunately this was one of the only positive aspect of our dining experience on the outdoor deck at The Barn restaurant. We had reservations for outdoors, and arrived on time, however the only table available was one with no chairs. We waited while chairs were brought up from downstairs. After we were seated, we waited 30 minutes until a server arrived to take our drink order. My cucumber lime margarita was superb, the one other positive! But then we waited again until a different server took our meal order. The servers seem to be untrained. No introductions and no information about the menu. My husband ordered a burger and was not asked how he wanted it cooked. It was served medium rare. The shrimp on my salad were undercooked. We are local but will not be returning to dine until The Barn receives better reviews. read more

Our company held its 3rd annual holiday dinner at The Barn last week. We had 17 people attend and chose "the cellar" to host this gathering. We loved the layout and option to have a time of appetizers and drinks before sitting. This was a great ice-breaker for our group and everyone was super relaxed before we sat down for our dinner. From the minute we walked in the door, we were greeted with friendly staff. Our servers were polite, checked on us many times, and made sure we always had enough water and any other drinks. The food was delicious and everyone received the correct meal they had pre-ordered. The communication leading up to the party was also highly organized and prompt. Earlier this month my husband and I looked for a place to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. We decided on The Barn Restaurant, and our choice was perfect. Treated well in every way, the food was superb, the staff friendly and fun and attentive, and the surroundings were lovely. We just couldn't have asked for a better visit and we send much gratitude to this terrific establishment. We brought a few guests along to the dinner, and each one had a wonderful experience too. We've been in the Carlisle area for about a year and have tried several of the highly reviewed restaurants in Carlisle, Harrisburg, and Mechanicsburg. Of those, this place is easily in the top three. The restaurants appearance was clean, modernly rustic, and inviting. Without exception, the staff were pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable. Finally, the food was top notch. We had the braised short rib with grits and the mushroom pappardelle for entrees and the sticky bun for dessert. They also made a respectable Old Fashioned. Will definitely come back here. Without a doubt the old Allenberry was in desperate need of a total renovation and the design of the new resort does not disappoint. The Barn is at once rustic and modern, spacious and elegant, with a delightful dining porch that overlooks the grounds and the Yellow Breeches. We had a wonderful brunch there several weeks ago and were looking forward to trying it for dinner. The shareable Brussel sprouts with pancetta were fantastic. We probably should have tried other appetizers as our dinner. I ordered the special shrimp and grits advertised as "sustainable fish." While I'm all for a sustainable fish item on the menu I found the dish overpriced and barely edible. The grits were way too soupy and worse, tasted like straight watery cornmeal, than any traditional grits I've ever had, including time living in Louisiana. I'm still fretting about paying $27. My husband's burger was good enough but $18 seemed a tad high. We will return though. The service was excellent. I love the setting and the beer and wine list. Heck, I'd return for the brussel sprouts alone. The new owners not only saved Allenberry, they have transformed it into a first-rate resort. read more

I had heard mixed reviews on the consistency of the restaurant. Everyone agreed that the place looks great and the renovations are incredible. We found the service and the food very good. It was a comfortable atmosphere and enjoyable. I will request a booth or a table by the windows next time vs a table in the middle of the room.
