We fell in love from the outside in. The decor was awesome. Do you like books? You will love this place! Try to find the bathrooms, that was fun. The staff from the minute you walk in are very friendly and very well dressed. We sat on a very comfortable bench our husbands sat across from us on very comfortable chairs. The menu was really great, something for everyone. The drinks are very smartly named. The food was INCREDIBLE. Let's start with the apps we ordered. The grilled oysters, delicious. The prosciutto wrapped scallops were not salty and the scallops were cooked beautifully. I had a Moscow mule very well made. I ordered the Chicken Martini as my entree, the chicken was cutlets and nice and thin. Not oily. The cheesy risotto was delectable. Our waitress Maureen was awesome. Ohh I forgot, we had reservations and I had to call twice to asked if they could move it 15 minutes, they had no problem doing that and when we got there we didn't even wait to be seated. Parking is the only issue I see, but it's not too bad. We couldn't eat dessert but was recommended the carrot cake with pistachio ice cream, we will have to try that next time. My husband And I along with another couple dined at newly opened The Basement on Saturday evening and it is a definite hit! Let's start with the decor. It is smart and Chic, it fits the name and the restaurant's location. Lots of eye-catching details, nicely done and well thought out Next is the service, our favorite server, Fredy told us about this restaurant coming up a month ago when we visited Bayou. The service was absolutely professional and wonderful. Not only from Fredy but the entire staff starting with the bartenders and ending with the table runner. Now for the food! For the appetizer my husband ordered the Ginger clams I ordered the muscles they were both delicious. For the main course I had the spring mix and fruit salad it was loaded with lots of yummy items including dry figs, apples crumbled Ricotta cheese, our friends had the Seafood Pescatore and the shrimp Carbonara Rossa. We just went to the basement recently to eat, overall I'd say it was pretty great. I love the decor, very unique theme. My husband ordered the tuna appetizer.It was amazing. I ordered the salmon appetizer.It was absolutely delicious. I didn't like the avocado mousse that was underneath the salmon, but the salmon itself was outstanding! I will be back again for that alone... I also had the halibut, which was pretty good.. My first two bites were fishy, so I was nervous.But the rest of it was good especially after I soaked up the sauce with it. He ordered a burger, which, unfortunately was not that good... I think they need to order better quality meat you can tell it was not great but the curly fries that came with it were delicious! Our waitress couldn't have been more lovely... Very attentive and very sweet... The beer wasn't that cold unfortunately even with the frosty glass that they gave us... The restaurant is gorgeous. The service was accommodating. They went out of their way to seat twelve people together with a last minute reservation. The menu had something for everyone but I feel their menu plays it safe. Maybe to accommodate Staten Islander's tastes? The portions are ample and shareable. Beautiful new spot in the old Beso location. The renovation did justice to this place, beautifully done. Sat at the bar to have a drink and lunch, enjoyed every moment. We visit this establishment the second day they opened and we went here very often until we completed the whiskey flight challenge. My husband is a whiskey connoisseur so he was excited about trying the flights. The challenge was presented in this way If you complete the whiskey challenge you would get a tour to a whiskey distillery in the city or a bottle of whiskey of your choice. Sounds good right WRONG. It took my husband about 3 weeks to complete the challenge. When he completed the challenge he was excited because he was going to choose a whiskey of his choice. When he completed the flight the manager Maureen didn't even come over to congratulate him or even take a picture with him. This was disappointing our waitress was trying to figure out how he could be accommodated for this but there wasn't much she could do. The manager (Maureen) claims she spoke to the owner and he told her to just give us a bottle of knob creek (a 25-30 dollar bottle roughly) which is absolutely unacceptable considering how much money was spent completing the flights. It was disrespectful and distasteful the way she handled this situation. He was the first person to complete their flight challenge. There was no congratulations of any sort she didn't even come to our table at all to offer anything. What made this even worse is the fact that the owner has beso and blue restaurants. About 2 months after completing the challenge we were scheduled to have our wedding dinner at blue. I feel like as regular customers at all 3 of the establishments that he ownes something better should have been done for completing this challenge. My husband information was left with Maureen in the hopes that the owner would make this right . To no surprise there was nothing done. Due to this I would not recommend this establishment ever they don't keep their word on anything and the manager is terrible. We have stopped visiting this establishment and will never come back here. The food is slightly above sub par . The Mac and cheese is disgusting The drinks aren't consistent If you want great service, consistency and great food visit blue you won't be disappointed. This establishment decor is the vibes of a time capsule of music and books it's kind of a speakeasy / library vibe. Still not enough to change my mind about ever coming back here again . read more

You walk in and the staff is so helpful and gracious. The atmosphere is interesting and different. It's definitely a conversation starter. We, all 11 of us,were seated and served water immediately. Brought us drinks and allowed us time to read the menu. No rush. Ordered the bison meatballs appetizer, onion soup, calamari, octopus and others. Main course. - chicken stuffed with artichoke, steak and lobster, burgers, chicken wings etc. the room was decorated tastefully. Conversation flowed but the acoustics were just great as there was little noise. Considering there were 11 of us, they did not add the tip to the bill. Good for them because I gave more than 20%. The food is always good. However I see that for the happy hour menu the food is scarce. For example : the appetizer plates are deceiving. The nachos is loaded with toppings but only has like 6 pieces is nachos. The dinner plates lacks enough of the sides it comes with. If they can work on that it would Be perfect. My family has been a big fan of Bayou, Beso, and Blue for many years. We were heartbroken when Bayou closed but wanted to give The Basement a try. We all loved our meals! The Billionaire oysters were delicious! I ordered 2. The Vietnamese flavored wings were nice, mild, honey flavor. There was also an order of french onion soup that was enjoyed. For dinner, the shrimp carbonara rossa reminded me of the shrimp etouffe from Bayou, very good. My father ordered the old Bayou fav that made its way to The Basement, Steak Louie. While not a bleu cheese fan he always enjoyed the salsa that came with it but this was a little too bleu cheese heavy for him. He really enjoyed the steak. My mother chose the Spring Tuna, which I eyed but the fruit threw me off. Boy was I wrong! It's delicious! My Nan, who was unsure of what to order asked for the app Scallop Francese to be made into a dinner portion. It came out plentiful! 8 scallops and lots of gnocchi. Now for dessert, the chocolate cappuccino was so good, like a hot chocolate! The bourbon bread pudding was shared and there was a massive bowl of chocolate Egger's ice cream, and carrot cake. Trendy, upscale ambiance here. We really enjoyed the library theme and it definitely did not feel like we were on Staten Island. Unfortunately there were a few downsides to our first experience in the Basement; service was painfully slow and inattentive (the place was nearly empty during brunch) and they were all out of Tito's and Bloody Mary mix. A cardinal sin on the weekends! Additionally, our frittatas were wayyyyy overdone with zero flavor other than burnt non-stick spray. Not sure we will be back. read more
