We regularly (and for years) went to their place in Benson at the intersection of I-40 and 210. Basically at a gas station. The food there was always good, especially if you could get the "burnt ends" only available certain days and which usually sell out quickly. We decided to try the North Hills location for a BD party. I called the day before and requested a time and enough room for our group, and he (Larry!) was absolutely accommodating. Told me to ask for him upon our arrival. He immediately put tables together for our group. Fantastic personal service!! The food just as good as that in Benson and to top it off the burnt ends were available. I was visiting NC for the holidays and I was looking for NC BBQ. Unfortunately some of the other spots we wanted to try was closed. We ended up stopping at the BBQ Lab. The portion was big and price was reasonable. I got the ribs, pulled pork, sausage, and mac n cheese. The pulled pork was moist and they had great sauces to enhance your entree. Amazing people and food! We have loved Redneck BBQ Lab for years now! We get our office Christmas parties catered from them yearly, and their food never disappoints. We were very excited to hear that their new location is even closer to our office! My personal favorites on their menu is their jalapeño cheddar sausage, pulled pork, mac and cheese, and potatoes. And whatever you do, DON'T forget to put some sauce on top! They have 3 amazing sauces to choose from. Our favorite is the Competition BBQ Sawse- Tangy, Sweet, & Lil Heat! So good. Definitely more posh than the original in Benson attached to a gas station. (No offense intended - it's just a different vibe). Same fantastic food. Got lucky and got the last of the burnt ends which aren't usually even available on Saturday. I think they might still be in some sort of "soft open" stage since there were few customers. (We've waited 30 minutes or more in Benson). No dedicated website and nothing on the original site so hours are a guess. We were in the neighborhood so we decided to take our chances and it paid off twice - they were open and had burnt ends. Still think that Prime in Knightdale has the best brisket anywhere in the vicinity, but the food here is exceptional. read more

Absolutely amazing. That's the review. Seriously it was a great experience. This was our first family outing with our 5 month old baby at the time and we've passed this place a few times not knowing what we were missing. I'm glad we went in there because from the chicken to the fried okra to the cornbread it was amazing. I believe we met the owner and he helped us in bringing our food to us. They have an array of BBQ sauces and I understand why they have some that's award winning because I put it on everything we ordered. The only reason I won't claim them as the best is because I haven't been around to a lot of BBQ spots but this is one I will keep in rotation, one I will recommended, one I will bring family and friends to. The vibe inside is family oriented I saw a lot of families in there and you know the food is good when even the children are sitting at the table licking their fingers. I do wish they give like a butter or something for their cornbread. If they are reading this a whipped honey butter would be an amazing addition to that cornbread. read more

We stopped here on a recommendation from a waiter at another restaurant. It did not disappoint! Great staff! The gentleman that greeted us gave a run down of the menu and put 2 tables together for our table of 6. He even put a reserved sign up. 10/10 for customer service! We tried almost all the meats and sides. Highest marks for pastrami and brisket! It is so good it doesn't even need BBQ sauce which feels sacrilegious to say. Seasoning is wonderful. Cornbread was exceptional. Already sweet, no butter or other toppings needed. Mac and cheese a little dry, but not spicy despite being labeled as jalapeño. I think we were the end of a tray. BBQ chips very good. Ocre was good, but mom's remains the favorite. Coleslaw very good. Loved it overall! A great NC experience! read more

Ok so it is know that this establishment is a branch off (franchise) from the original in Benson NC (Redneck bbq lab). The building was nice and clean. The line was past the door at 12 noon. We waited in line and it moved at a snails pace. Partly because of being short staffed and customers not knowing what they want. Nice employees came out and handed samples for the people waiting and answered any questions if there were any. Awesome customer service. Unfortunately for me and my party we were next in line and they announced that they were sold out of the burnt ends. We ordered a brisket sandwich, pork bbq sandwich, smoked turkey,jalapeño Mac and cheese, and beans. The brisket definitely had the wiggle and flavor but it was not juicy. Maybe they didn't cook low and slow not sure. Good bbq and smoked turkey! The jalapeño mac and cheese had the smell but it had absolutely NO flavor not even cheese. It was super bland in my opinion. These guys need to go back to the lab to figure out how to make their food have taste. I had the brisket sandwich, 2 ribs, and the baked beans. All 3 items lacked flavor. They were the blandest tasting items I have had in recent memory ... so bland that I put all the sauce I could coax from the bottles on the table on my items to get some flavor. My husband and I used to go to Q Shack before movies and were sorry when it closed. We were excited that the BBQ Lab moved into the space and had to try it! My husband ordered the Fat Redneck sandwich and it was huge, pilled high with pulled pork, brisket, and collards. We both loved it! I was in the mood for the BLT, and the house made bacon was one of the best bacons I've tried. A really perfect BLT! But as good as it was, I fell absolutely in love with the house-made potato chips that came with it. They were seriously the best potato chips I've ever had - crunchy, thick, perfectly salted, and with a great potato flavor. The only downside was the price, which was a little higher than we would have preferred, but the food was substantial and tasty enough that we enjoyed our meal and will likely go back in spite of it. read more

We have visited the original location in JoCo several times before and decided to check out the new location in North Hills to see if the taste and flavor were just as good, and they were. The facility isn't huge, but it's quite a bit larger than the original location. It's well lit and buzzing, but nothing too loud. It's a walk up counter but the staff were friendly and attentive. The place was also very clean. You can tell they take pride in the appearance. We will definitely be back. read more

I use to come here when it first opened about a little over a year ago and decided to try again today and I don't know if cooks and/or owners have changed but the food was blah and way more expensive. I paid $30 for 2 meat combo. Both brisket and burnt ends were ice cold with no flavor and so were the greens. I literally began feeling sick after eating it. And I don't recall paying this much before. The only thing that had flavor and was decent was the okra which is why it got 2 stars over 1. I won't be back. Sorry. read more

Staff was incredibly friendly and ordering was very easy. BBQ sandwich is huge and all the sauces are on the table so you can add as much or as little as you want. Three choices for sauce which are all very good but do taste similar with subtle differences. BBQ chips were good, served with bottled ranch dressing. Food was so bland and expensive. I've been so excited to try this place and it was the biggest let down. The only positive experience I had was eating the mac and cheese. There were 5 sauces sitting in front of me and I wasn't blown away by a single one. The ribs I had were rubbery. My teeth almost came out just trying to take a bite. It was evident the food had been sitting for quite a while and I had come only 2 hours after opening. I could not imagine how tragic the experience would be at dinner time. Honestly ruined my day. One of the drawbacks of smoking your own BBQ is that it ruins you for just about every BBQ joint around. Not in this case. I've been to the Lab a couple of times now and it's just incredible. Nice place, people were friendly and the fries were good. Tried the Burnt ends and the jalapeño sausage. Had high hopes for both having lived in Texas. The burnt ends were sauced up, could not taste the meat, and the sausage was okay, did not seem like it was smoked and was not very spicy. The pork dishes looked good, but did not try. I am from Chicago an my husband and I went there a couple weeks ago. This was by far the best brisket sandwhich I have ever had. The brisket was nice and thick and nice slices, not the crumbles you get at some other places. The sauce was delicious and so was scrumptious as was the baked beans. I ended up taking home a pound of the brisket and the sauce. The following week, I had their ribs and my husband had their pastrami ribs, it was delicious.
