Several flaws right off the bat for a brand new location. Waiting for food is a bottleneck during recommended social distancing. They should use the outside speakers to call out order numbers for those on the patio. The Ruben was fine the first time here and they gave me a package of thousand island dressing. This time they didn't and the meat was tough as leather and not edible. For a $11.99 sandwich we should make sure the quality of the product is acceptable. Chef was making food and popping french fries in his mouth as they were sitting in a metal pan to the right side of the left grill. I think this violates some type of health code. Outside tables are softly wiped down but I brought my own and the table was filthy. Again, I saw them wiping tables down but it was a very minimum effort. Both of the garbage cans inside by the food receiving area are cracked on the top. They are brand new. How does this happen and how is this acceptable? I had gone here when it first opened and it wasn't so great so I didn't write a review because I didn't want to criticize them until they had a chance to establish themselves at this new location in Salem NH. I used to go to their Exeter NH location which was outstanding. This location--it's okay but not great. I went at noon to pickup a takeout clam roll, onion rings and fries. The portions were huge and the pricing was inline with what I'd expect ($28.00 for all the items) but the clams were really oversized and not as appetizing as the littlenecks you can get at places nearer the shore. The service was very good, kind and attentive. The ambience was okay. It's a stripmall store trying to look like a clam shack near the ocean so there's only so much you can do with that, but it was very clean and well attended to. I saw the giant ice cream menu the owner mentions in every single response to his reviews and yes it looked impressive for what it is, but I think I'd rather go to a dairy to get ice cream and not a Fish restaurant. I would say that if you're a tourist an it's a hardship to get to the seashore during your visit to this area, absolutely give it a try. But, if you're a local it's better to go to the source in Gloucester or Essex MA to get a better meal. read more

We were so excited that Beach Plum had opened in our town. Until we went there. What a disappointment! To begin with the place was filthy. Trash everywhere outside! And it wasn't much better inside. Although with the employees screaming at each other inside you didn't notice the dirty tables and floors as much. The employees were tripping over each other, it was mass confusion! Then after ordering we were told it would be 30 minutes for our food to be cooked. And it really wasn't that busy. But we waited. The food was not worth the wait! The fish and scallops had no flavor. I have been eating at all of the other beach plum restaurants for years and decided to give this new one a try and was quite disappointed with my meal. At first, I thought that they had given me clam strips instead of full bellied clams, but it turns out that I just got overcooked, bottom of the barrel clams. I really did not want to eat them. I brought my dissatisfaction to their attention but was met with indifference and no offers of fixing the problem. The food we great. I had lobster bisque and fried scallops and my friend had clam strips roll. We were there at 1 pm for lunch. What we didn't like was how dirty the place was. They have picnic tables with wide slots between table top boards and they were filled with food. The floor was wet in many areas, saw a woman slip and fall on her butt. Meanwhile there were a few employees stabding around. I suggest a rubber matt from the counter to the outside door and a hand vacuum to get the food out of the tables. read more

I honestly don't know what all the hype has been about. Absolutely nothing was impressive! From the staff that didn't know basic info about the menu to the atmosphere which doesn't live up to the Tuscan Village vibe to the mediocre at best overpriced food! I have a gluten allergy but the staff couldn't even tell me if the fried items on the gluten free menu were cooked in the same fryer! That should have been my first clue! After ordering I saw the * which says may contain flour! Aka not actually gluten free! I got baked haddock which was dry and flavorless. I got the coleslaw as my one side which was oddly enough dry and also flavorless. I added a Greek salad which was good because I didn't enjoy my main meal. Only the Greek salad also left me disappointed! How do you have Greek dressing that doesn't taste like Greek dressing? We just got back from Beach Plum in Salem. Today was the first day they were open and it was busy busy. Overall it was a good experience. The fried seafood that my wife and I ordered was great. Our son also really loved the bacon cheeseburger. This would have been a 4 or 5 star review had a couple things gone slightly differently. First, it took about 40 minutes for the food to come out after ordering, which is to be expected when a new restaurant opens especially during covid times. It was super busy and the staff were all working really hard. No points deducted for that. We ordered a blooming onion to share and the presentation was great. It looked wonderful, but it wasn't cooked well which made separating the onion especially without a knife impossible. We didn't eat it. I did speak with someone, because I wanted to share the feedback with the restaurant. When I told the person working that everything was great, but we had an issue with the blooming onion, I was dismissed with a "thank you." Once again, they were extremely busy and the staff were overwhelmed. Having worked in food service, I'd expected that the staff person would have talked to a manager and an offer to refund the onion or a coupon for a free appetizer on our next visit would have been more than enough to placate us after the small misstep. This didn't occur, which is why I gave them the 3 star review. All in all it was a good experience and we will definitely give them another chance in a couple weeks after they've gotten beyond the opening day jitters. We have been going to various locations of the beach plum for years. The food is always very good, and we always look forward to it! We always expect a bit of a wait due to the quality of the food an we work that extra time in to our visit . This was the first time that we visited the Salem NH location, and it was very clean and offered awesome outdoor seating. I would have given a 5, but the folks working on the "pickup" food side of the counter were not very friendly. Customer service is a big deal to me, so it was enough to loose a star. read more

Went to the Beach Plum in Raymond on 4/22/24 and spent $161 to go, wanted to eat in the car with my wife. First off, the staff was way too young to be serving pricey seafood. Example, no clue what fried butterfly shrimp was. It was more important they got the ice-cream orders out, not the pricey seafood. I ordered 2 8oz lobster rolls and what was suppose to be a small pints of clam, shrimp and scallop. The dude ordered me baskets. Had to wait and pay another $11 for the pints, order up to $172. The clams were excellent, the shrimp was mediocre and not butterfly and the scallops were on the not well portioned side but tasty. My big complaint was the lobster rolls. I asked for light mayo and drizzled with drawn butter. Classic New England lobster roll in my opinion. Came out with cold refrigerated lobster, mayo on the bottom of the roll and no drawn drizzled butter and the lobster contained no tail meet. For $76+ for lobster you think tail meat was involved. NOPE! What lobster they gave us was well portioned but we did pay for it. We took it home and made a real lobster roll. To bad, this place has potential but inexperienced staff, just bad making of lobster rolls put this at a very low score. read more

Chowder wasn't hot enough, fried pickles were not just tasteless, but lacked the pop of juiciness that they're supposed to have. The fries are totally worth skipping. People tend to complain more than complaint - so I gave it a try and it was awful. We had our food to go - otherwise I would have sent most of it back. My husband and son both ordered a cheeseburger. My son is 6 and found it to be to hot - my husband loved his. Assuming they use the same spice blend for kids and adults? My mother-in-law and I both ordered Lobster Rolls with sweet potato fries. There was hardly any lobster and there were a bunch of regular fries with our sweet potato fries. Assuming they cook them in the same frying basket and don't care enough to separate them? This was my first time here and will 100% not be my last. Restaurant very clean service was great and food very good. The prices are high but that is not all on them. The portions are very generous but not overly ridiculous. I had the Haddock Ruben and it was a big piece of fish and was very good. My daughter had the fried clams and she was very happy with them. I've only been to the Beach Plum once before but it was at the Epping location. Loved it the first time but was disappointed at their new location. I ordered mozzarella sticks, bowl of lobster bisque, and a 2 way combo of scallops and shrimp. By the time I got home and started opening everything up they gave me mozzarella sticks, onion rings and scallops and clam strips! Some of the batter was still raw too. Let me preface this by saying today was their grand opening. With that, I and I imagine most set lower expectations as businesses iron things out. Unfortunately, it was still a truly poor experience in ways that can only be excused by the grand opening. We arrived and only a couple people in line ahead of us. We ordered a couple things including a 5oz Lobster Roll and Sweet Potatoe Fries. Noticed the prices were quite expensive, even for things such as Soda. We pay top dollar at places like Tuscan Kitchen, but still find that a good value, where is here, things seem quite pricey for what you are getting. But I'm not familiar with the brand and this is Tuscan Village, so if the food and service is top notch that can certainly go along way. We were getting take out, and immediately noticed the layout of the store seemed not well thought out. As there is a place to wait for your order right by where you just ordered but only enough space for a few people. If orders are ready within a couple minutes then I suppose that could work out, but since that wasn't the case and imagine it wouldn't be even on normal days, instead people have to wait in front of the soda area causing quite a traffic jam since the waiters have to go through that same small space because for some odd reason they didn't build a door from the kitchen to the outside. Once again, on a non grand opening day I imagine there would be less people, but wouldn't expect a lot less on a typical weekend, so that store layout I think will be quite problematic. We waited 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20, minutes, 30 minutes... and us (and everyone around us were getting quite frustrated, as we could all see tons of food in the kitchen ready on the warmer tables sitting their seemingly endlessly. At 35 minutes we asked for an update on our order as we had no idea it would be anything this long. They said, oh it's a 45 minute to an hour wait. Almost fell off our chair (well rather our feet since all of us had been standing the whole time). We were all like.. um why didn't anyone at the register set that expectation as we of course would have gone somewhere else, and people who had plenty of time at least could have planned accordingly. A woman came by with $5 gift cards for us all. Otherwise there was no communication from the staff or updates. Another issue is there is no speaker system so they call out numbers by their voice alone, and the people calling it out could be considered a whisper. Which is why countless bags of food sat unclaimed because even us, were right near them could barely hear what number was being said and everyone else never had a chance. They definitely need either a speaker system and or a visual display. Because of this issue staff spent countless minutes walking around the store trying to find who the food belonged to often returning it back to the kitchen. Unlike the well trained overly friendly staff at nearby Starbucks, the staff here were certainly all young and inexperienced (as to be expected for opening day), but while all were nice, certainly not the energy or excitement or niceness one would expect from staff looking to set a good first experience and to make up for the other issues. On the other hand, I understand they were probably stressed too. COVID wise, the people dining had off their masks while eating as to be expected. I'm surprised they have indoor dining right now however, because unlike most inside dining you are only around your waiter and a few other people, here people with their masks off eating are within arms distance of everyone in line ordering and the people waiting for the orders. People where eating we saw go up to the food counter to get things without putting their masks back on (but they may have just forgot). One of the cooks had a mask on but not over his nose which was was concerning. But where the pandemic is getting nearer to and end, this will all be less of an issue, other than potentially showing how much they focus (or not) on health considerations. But overall staffers seemed to be following protocols. By about 40 minutes, the food was ready and we booked it out of there. Certainly smelled good. Got home opened the bag, and noticed the 5oz Lobster Roll which is about $20 seemed very small compared Lobster Rolls that I've had a nice restaurants for less. I didn't weigh it, just certainly much smaller than expected. It tasted good. Nothing to write home about compared to others I've had, but certainly fresh and good. Had it come out 30 minutes early might have tasted even better. Unfortunately my sweet potatoe fries where missing and since the roll was so small had been looking forward to those. While we live near by, having spent so much time there certainly had no desire to go back and wait another 40 minutes to get my fries. The tartar sauce we asked for also was missing. The clam chowder was soupy/liquidy, fine but definitely not great. If better next time will update this. read more

First time to this restaurant and location today. I ordered the clam roll with a side order of onion rings. The full clams. The necks were so chewy that they needed to be discarded from the plate. Oil was dirty based on the clams not having that golden cook look. Instead more brown. There are no deals at this place. Everything on the menu is Sky High. For the price I paid $30.00 for. There is a lot better places with full sit down and better food right around corner. My advise say your hard earn money and check out the other spots in the mall park. Stopped in at the Beach Plumb in Salem NH today, I wanted to dislike this place just from standing in line with rude moms and 9 screaming kids, however I was pleasantly surprised at the amount they give you for the price. ( half scallop half fried whole belly clams 32.54 ). I could not finish it. What they need is an intercom rolling off your ticket number. I couldn't get within 10 feet of the window were they hand you your order to many people that believe they only exist.
