Seriously one of the best breakfast! My family and I were driving to Santa Barbara and wanted to stop somewhere for brunch in Oxnard. We first stopped by this restaurant by the airport, however, it was way too crowded. This is when we found this place via yelp and saw that it had good reviews. The outside and inside of the restaurant isn't anything special; it rather looked low key. But, the food did not withstand the look of the restaurant. It was over my expectation, especially the chorizo omelette and chile verde. We also got the strawberry pancakes because Oxnard, and it was very very delicious! The pancakes are good! They are pretty big from size, so I would usually only eat about two and no more. Orders take a while, but I think that's for every restaurant. Parking is easy to find. Have driven by this restaurant because the line is outside and around the block. This morning, no line so we made it in the door. Next time, we will gladly wait in line. My husband, a first generation Mexican American, the Huevos Rancheros and he said it was the best he ever had. And let me tell you, he doesn't rave about many places. My daughter and I got the special which was Chorizo Potatoes with 2 eggs and tortillas. So good.....so very good. Service was great, very attentive with coffee refills, one of my biggest pet peeves. Been twice, walked out very full each time. I really like the atmosphere here, comfy and laid back despite the hustle and bustle. Service is friendly ... and I do like the counter service. They had a rib-eye and egg breakfast special recently and it was massive... surprised my friend was able to finish it. I like the amount of heat in their green/verde sauce .... it's got some kick. Found their chilaquiles interesting as they must has tossed the chips in with the egg then topped with the salsa, so the chips were seemingly crisper than other places. Enjoyed a great breakfast with my Momster last Saturday. The menu was extensive, the food was great and the service was outstanding. Everyone checked for water, coffee, cleared table...we never felt unattended. I had the Chili Verde Omelet with hash browns and sour dough toast. It was delicious. Definitely a great recommendation for breakfast in Oxnard ! They have a variety of food from eggs Benedict to waffles and Chilequiles ! You can come across some amazing hidden treasures when you are traveling through an unfamiliar area. This happens to me frequently, as I spend considerable time on the road...more often than I like, but finding places like the Best Breakfast Cafe makes the road so much more tolerable. So, this past Tuesday, as I was making my way to the West L.A. Veterans Center, from my home in Nipomo, I ran into the typical southbound traffic stoppage mistakenly referred to as "morning rush hour" on the southbound CA101, as I came into Oxnard...this was predictable. "Road Plan B" was initiated, and I got off the freeway, intending to use the surface streets to catch Hwy. 1 south along the Malibu Coast. As I was going down Saviers at Pleasant Valley, thinking about breakfast, what to my wandering hungry eyes see but the huge letters on the side of a small diner spelling out "Best Breakfast"...I had to stop to see if they were lying. They weren't. The service was great, and the simple bacon and eggs I ordered was substantial...4 large, thick pieces of crispy bacon, potatoes O'Brien, loaded with peppers and onions, eggs perfectly done, toast...about 9 bucks...EXCELLENT!! Taking the advice of my fellow Yelpers I invited my Dad to Breakfast and I have to agree with the prior reviewers the food is down right good, but even better than that the service is amazing! I ordered the chorizo & eggs that came with refried beans & your choice of flour or corn tortilla , if I would change one thing it would show you just how much of gringo I am, as I would've preferred hash-browns over the beans... But let me add that was my mistake for not speaking up. My Dad ordered the ham & cheese omelet after he inquired about the possibility of having a chile verde omelet made and the waiter apologized , saying that they only serve the Chile Verde omelet maybe once a month on a special. Dad inquired about what coffee they served, as he sold Farmer Brothers coffee for over thirty years ( I'm sticking my tongue out at the prior reviewer who dissed it) and the waiter checked and told him its Caribbean and a very strong cup of coffee, my Dad chose water as he prefers a milder roast coffee. I had ice tea and neither of us ever had an empty cup and I'm serious m,never! Such attentive staff and they are not lacking in customers they just actually... Get this...Care about the customers! What an awesome concept. My chorizo was so good , and while I'm no expert in what rates the all-time best in the west... I know what bad is and this definitely wasn't it. It's homemade and the portion was just right, cheese melted lightly on top with fresh sliced avocado on the side. My Dad's omelet was packed with diced ham and he was impressed with that , his one issue was the omelet itself , while my Father has not cooked a day in his life if you don't count opening a can of clam chowder and heating it on the stove... He is quite the omelet connoisseur. He showed me how thin the actual omelet, he was impressed with the contents of the omelet, just not the omelet itself. He asked that his hash-browns be cooked medium (as he'd looked at some of the yelp pictures and did not want them dark brown) they came out golden brown and he was happy. What can I say that others haven't? If you are looking for a fantastic breakfast about a thousand steps up from Denny's or Carrows, come to BBC. We live at Hollywood Beach so Mrs. Olson's is our normal breakfast place, but with a 45-minute wait and a growling tummy, I took to Yelp to find someplace new to try. When I saw this listing, I remember having driving past the restaurant before and thinking "'Best Breakfast'. Yeah, right." Boy, was I wrong! A solid 4.5 stars! The food is fresh and unpretentious (read: standard breakfast fare), and the portions more than generous. I had the cinnamon French toast with one egg & two LONG pieces of bacon. Everything was cooked to perfection, even the bacon which I'm picky about. My husband had the steak and eggs and couldn't stop moaning about how good the steak was. In fact, I had to steal a few bites -- just for research for this review, you understand. *heh hem* It came topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms and was mmm-mmm-good. Was it absolutely the best breakfast I've ever had? Naw, but that's a pretty high bar. Would I eat here again? In a heartbeat. (In fact, I can't wait to try the California scramble another Yelper posted about.) Here's where BBC shines above EVERY other breakfast place I've been to in I don't know how long: The service. Our waitress always had a smile and flat out told us she loves her job. "I love to make people happy." What a delightful difference from all the harried waitresses we've had over the years who growl at you when you sit down or don't bother to come refill your coffee. The manager delivered our food with yet another smile, and the busboy was always grinning when he took away our licked-clean plates. The place was hopping on a busy Memorial Day morning but parking was still easy to find and the staff didn't look any worse for wear. It was pretty loud, but busy breakfast places always are -- I think it has something to do with all the caffeine from the never-empty cups o' joe. We have eaten here on at least 6 different occasions. Mostly on Sundays and I always get the Green or Red Chorizo Chillaquilles. Recently we went on a Saturday and boy let me tell you, it was not the same. Must be a different cook because my usual plate was so gross, I couldn't stomach it and my husband after eating most of his Chicken Fried steak, felt sick to his stomach the rest of the day and had multiple trips to the bathroom (if you catch my drift). The meat he said was chewy and had some mystery pieces, where you aren't sure if its meat, fat, cartilage or what) The biscuit and gravy was gross and tasted like flavorless flour. Again, totally different from our previous dining experiences. Don't get me wrong...The servers are very nice, you get your food fast and the owner or manager seems very attentive but the difference in food quality and taste from one day to the next is too much to risk. I had another friend recently try it out on his own and he had a very bad experience as well. I think breakfast is the easiest meal to make and the hardest to screw up. My favorite breakfast spot around. I usually order the Denver omelet as I do at any breakfast restaurant so I know a good Denver omelet. The ham in the omelet is of the highest quality and the rest of the ingredients are always fresh. I tried the chorizo and eggs that my wife ordered and that was amazing. On further inspection and when I ate my leftovers, I realized it was mostly potato( very little egg inside). Uncooked potato chunks too. I wasn't too impressed. My wife had cinnamon roll french toast and it was super eggy and not very cinnamonny. I don't know, I just wasn't impressed. I had to keep asking for things they forgot to give me. Great customer service! Delicious food! Have been going to TBB after it changed its name (from Uncle Herb's), so for a few years now. The pancakes are always so soft and tasty, bacon nice and crispy, coffee always there when you're running out and a waiter/waitress when you need something. And on our way there we got hungry and stumbled upon this place. I called to let them know a swarm of us were coming and they were so quick to give us a section of the restaurant. The food was great. The best breakfast: no. Very good breakfast: definitely. The name had put me off, places that brag usually aren't nearly as good as the braggadocio. But my wife's cousin recommended it, so we went. My wife's "Cabo" omelet was comprised of very mild green chilies, bacon, and cheddar cheese. She loved it, and I thought it was very good. I got the strawberry pancakes with additional banana slices. Today I ordered the lemon chicken and avocado sandwich with fries for lunch. I called in the order and it was ready within the quoted time. The young lady at the register was very nice and attentive. The sandwich itself had the best toast on it of any sandwich I've ever had! It was the perfect bread!! I would eat that bread again in a heart beat! My only issue with the sandwich was the mushrooms, they feel out of a can to me. I love mushrooms and the combinations in this sandwich seem to work but what would make it a slam dunk for me would be fresh mushrooms. Please use fresh mushrooms. This place is good and the owner(s) are fairly vigilant as to the service and quality. Ample sized portions and tasty too. If we are in the mood for breakfast in Oxnard, we usually end up here for the chicken fried steak and O'Brien potatoes. UPDATE 2/20/2013: Tried the lunch Corned Beef sandwich ($9) and sent the whole thing back. Over cooked, dried out and tough Corned Beef cut into bacon sized thin strips. Showed two of the waitresses what I was talking about and they agreed. No fussing, just immediately pulled the meal. The cook from a certain-ethnic-background was chuckling over it, so I blame him. Hubby and I just did extensive monetary damage at Walmart and wanted a good breakfast to help ease the pain so I looked at Yelp reviews and found this gem. WOW, we got lucky on a Saturday around 9:30am and it wasn't too packed and we got seated immediately. The service was amazing, coffee delicious and the food came out quickly and was excellent. I got the chili Verde (Spicy green sauce!) and eggs over medium with yummy hashed browns and hubby got the Chorizo and eggs which a lot of the yelpers raved about. His chorizo and eggs were good and even had cheese on them... how bad is that??? The meals were around $10 a piece and coffee $3 each. About $30 total. There was a great mix of people and definitely some older clientele that seemed to know the employees well. We were very impressed and would definitely go back! read more
