Disappointed with My Recent Experience I've ordered from PHO & THAI RESTAURANT before and usually enjoy the food, but my recent experience was disappointing. I ordered potstickers, but they tasted stale and not fresh. I asked for level 5 spice (the highest option available online) on the Kee Mao noodles, but they weren't spicy at all -- not even mild. The soda I ordered was out of stock, and they just gave me a different one without asking if I wanted it. When I arrived for pickup, the food was just left on a table, not handed to me. It felt impersonal and careless. The portion sizes have gotten noticeably smaller, especially considering the prices. They wrapped the chicken pho meals and Thai iced teas so carefully and handed them to me gently, making sure I would take care not to spill them. PHO - my appetite was ruined after I found a baby roach! Broth was tasty but as I got halfway into my bowl I see the bug. I was praying that my eyes were deceiving me but they weren't and I wanted to cry. KEE MAO - I was hesitant about eating it at first because of the pho but I probed the heck outta the dish to make sure there weren't any extra surprises. It had no flavor at all. There were zero pepper flakes as I ordered 3-stars for spice. Chicken was dry. Noodles were not fresh and they were very thick from sticking together. This restaurant is an embarrassment. The service was bad, and the owner's behavior was even worse. The owner wasn't satisfied with the tip. The tip I gave should have been enough but apparently it wasnt. He asked for more and told me I was cheap in front of customers. As long as I paid for all my food it should be fine as for the tip - it really depends on the quality of service which was poor that day. I could've just took the tip and left but instead I left more to satisfy this person. This establishment shouldn't pressure customers for a larger tip or make them feel embarrassed. Maybe had estimated 8 customers dining inside, and the older server was trying to tell me to change tables. Maybe 8 out of 45 dining capacity for dine in and 10 variety two top to 4 other 4 seating available. Time was 1100 am lunch time. Food takes awhile but the grilled pork spring rolls are definitely worth it. The green papaya salad with grilled pork is also 100% worth getting even though it's literally green papaya and a few pickled daikon and carrot (not so much a "salad") but really good. I opted for Pho house special and partner ordered Mongolian Beef ( I know I said the same thing, but it got worse when she ordered it with no onions). I typically come here with family at least twice a year. The food is really good from everything I've tried so far. I've gotten their pho and that was pretty good, not sure what I'd rate it. I've also gotten their curry which I really love and is very filling. The flavor is definitely there and I'd give it 7.9/10 Their chicken with chili sauce is probably my favorite and my group always orders several... at least 3 of them. The chicken is fried beautifully and the sauce goes perfect with it, although the chicken is great by itself. 10/10 I usually get my kids the kids Teriyaki and it's actually a nice portion, like it comes with a lot of food. However, I have growing boys, so as they get older it's no longer enough for them, so we will moving to adult sized portions. I don't eat this, so I can't rate it, but my kids don't complain. I'm not a big flavored drink person, so I generally only drink the water, but they do have a lot of tasty looking drink options. I may try one soon. Great warm flavors in the broth and adding the fresh line at the end is perfect. The brisket is tender and a good bite size. Adding the fresh jalapeños, basil and bean sprouts brighten it up a touch. Solid spot for pho in the Renton area! I had the large Dac Biet (combination pho) and it was great. The broth is a little bit on the sweeter side but I think a lot of people will like that. It was also bit fatty compared to what I'm used to, but still enjoyable. The large size was pretty filling and although a bit pricy at $14.50, I was happy with what I got. The meat/toppings were solid as well. One thing I like about this place is how big the restaurant is. It's a spacious spot so it's perfect for large parties or families, but they also have a ton of smaller booths that feel a lot more private. Conveniently located right of the 167 in Renton, this restaurant is reminiscent of an old school diner, but with an SE Asian flair. I noticed that lots of people came in for takeout, but only a few tables dined in. The server we had was super nice and service was quick. Food: - Banh Xeo (Viet savory crepe w/ shrimp and pork): everyone who's a fan of BX knows what makes or breaks it is the crunchy shell. This restaurant hits the mark with the serving size and generous greens, but the shell was oily and soggy. I've had better BX (ex. Green Leaf in ID, Seattle) - Pad See Ew (Thai Stirfried Rice Noodles): this is my favorite Thai noodle dish - smoky, savory, and not as acidic as pad Thai. I loved this dish here - super flavorful and their "spicy" was spicy! - Larb (Thai minced stir fry lettuce wraps): The flavor wasn't truly Thai - I tasted a fusion of Viet and Chinese influences. Nevertheless, it's yummy... only complaint is that it's missing the grounded, roasted glutenous rice powder (so not really larb, right?) - Bo La Lot (BBQ beef wrapped in betel leaf): No complaints - so yummy and flavorful. This is a thoroughly underrated Viet appetizer that I recommend you try! - Pad Thai: Not bad, but I've had better. I felt it lacked the smokiness that a strong wok infuses in pad Thai and also felt it was overly acidic. - Goi Xoai (mango salad w grilled chicken): mangos are my favorite fruit, so it's impossible for me to hate on mango salad. Knowing this place has a new owner, I've decided to check it out (previous reviews from last owner weren't that promising) I've called in to order take out Rice plate - com tam. The staff who picked up the phone didn't speak Vietnamese, so I'd ordered in English and we couldn't understand each other haha, so I hung up. The owner called me back right away and took my order in correctly. Cool. Food is ready within 15' I'm a big fan of Com tam, the combo Viet rice plate includes pork chop, egg, meatloaf, shredded pork skin and sometime other topping. The dish here is decent, not the best but not the worse. "Nuoc Cham" the dipping sauce can be improved though. I ordered a side of soup, and it was pho broth I believe.
