Because I have to eat an early dinner and cut off water by 10 p.m., I'm always starving afterward -- so naturally, I went for the aptly named Titanic ($17.99). A gigantic four-egg omelet packed with smoked ham, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, hash browns, and cheddar, topped with a buttermilk biscuit and sausage gravy. At 2,200 calories, this thing lives up to its name. No regrets! Honestly, one of the best omelets I've ever had. Everything's diced small so each bite gets a perfect mix of meat, veggies, and cheese -- which I love because I hate chunky omelets that taste like lazy cooking. It's the kind of meal that earns a nap; you don't just eat it, you survive it. Mom went for the lighter route: two scrambled eggs with potatoes and a biscuit. She wasn't thrilled -- said her biscuit was fully baked but a little dry and floury on the inside, and compared it (not kindly) to Chick-fil-A's gold-standard version. I travel an awful lot and I always enjoy trying a new, fun, unique, and interesting breakfast joint... So, on one of my frequent visits to the Overland park/Leawood area I stopped in here for breakfast. Getting there about 40 mins after they opened for the day, they were far from busy, and by the time I left, there were many more tables sat. Service was decent at the bar. I ordered a cup of coffee, which comes with a carafe and I chose their Nashville Hote Chicken Biscuit with their home style potatoes done with onions, green peppers, and cheese. I wanted to try their sausage gravy, so I asked for aside of that as well. The potatoes were the first thing I tried and while the cheese was melted on them, the potatoes were lukewarm. There wasn't much flavor from the addition of the other items, so I only ate a few and then was done with the side item. Next I tried the chicken biscuit. The crown of the biscuit broke as soon as I touched it with my fork and it was somewhat cool, far from fresh and hot, especially for first thing in the morning. The chicken itself was insanely hot, fresh, and the seasoning on it was incredible! Nice and spicy and very tasty, but beware, the thickness of the chicken is that which seems to have been cut in half, far from thick. The breading for the fry was great too. Next, I tried their sausage gravy and it was really basic, nothing flavorful or thick or seasoned about it. Really boring. Overall - this place has great potential and maybe it does better on other days, but I gave it a try and since I don't live in this area, I most definitely wouldn't return when back in town. read more

Waitresses are always tentative to our needs whether we go with friends or children. We usually never have to wait too long IF you just join the waitlist. Took my kids here. Mentioned it was my son's 3rd birthday. Asked if they do anything for birthdays, but no big deal if not. Never got an answer. Pancake kid's meal: $7.99. Comes with 6 mini pancakes, 2 sausage rounds, and a drink. ....then the bill comes. $3.00 upcharge to add strawberries and bananas to the pancakes. $0.50 upcharge for CHOCOLATE SYRUP $1.00 upcharge for apple juice. The only "free" drink is milk or soda and my kid is allergic to dairy and is too young for soda. The only thing above mentioned on the menu was the ridiculous drink upcharge. The others upcharges? Not a peep from the waitress. When I asked her about it, she agreed it was ridiculous, but that was it. Boxed up half his lunch to bring home as a snack. He insists on carrying the to go box outside himself (because he's a big kid now). Spills everything on the floor. When you have a bunch of family in town and it dawns on you that you'll need a restaurant for brunch that can accommodate around 20 people you really have two options: try to find someplace that is big enough (and kid friendly enough) to deal with a massive group, or get bagels or donuts for home. Feeling adventurous my family decided to roll the dice on option one. Knowing that more than half the party would be children this eliminated several of my favorite brunch places, and couple that with the size of our party, you are really looking at either chains like IHOP or very few other places that cater towards families. Enter the Big Biscuit. If you aren't familiar with the BIg Biscuit it's a local chain that has popped up everywhere around the KC metro over the past few years. It's kind of like a local version of an IHOP in my opinion. The food is a bit fresher, the service a bit better, but the food in general is somewhat similar to me. Now, back to our experience. My husband called ahead since we had such a massive party and they said it would be no problem, so we made a kind of reservation and mosied our way over. We were the first to arrive and the place was HOPPING. It was a Sunday, the Chiefs were playing later that day in a big game, and folks were wanting to get their brunch on. We found the host and he said he was told we would be there an hour earlier so there was a communication issue between the person who took our reservation on the phone and the host. What really impressed me though, was how he handled it. What would have been a really stressful situation for just about anyone, he managed to handle with so much grace. He turned to us and said it would be no problem, that it might be a few minutes but that he was going to work on getting our massive group of 20 seated as soon as he could. And he did! When I say this place was busy I'm not exaggerating. I'm not even sure how he did it. Once we all got seated, they had great options for kids, everyone was happy and our server was 10/10 amazing. I had a half order of biscuits and gravy which were honestly very average, but I think for most people they would be super enjoyable. My daughter had chicken fingers which she loved, and my husband had an omelette which he said was great. Overall I think the food here is about 3 stars but the service and ability to work with families and kids is 5. So, 4 stars is about right. We will absolutely be back and I'm so grateful locally owned businesses like this exist in our metro! read more

While we were in town, we were looking for a good breakfast spot near the hotel. And long and behold, the Big Biscuit popped up on our search. It wasn't too busy and we were sat right away. Our server was super attentive and knowledgeable. We were first timers obviously and she told us the most popular items. I got the kitchen sink and our server told me is was huge so she was going to put the biscuit and gravy on the side so I could take it home. My boyfriend got the pancake combo and substituted one of the buttermilk pancakes for the cinnamon roll and added chocolate chips. We also the bronut to share. Definitely recommend because everything was delicious. The cinnamon roll pancake with the chocolate chips were soooo good. Like I don't even know what made it so magical but it indeed was. Used Yelp to "join the waitlist", arrived 15 minutes later and apparently joining the waitlist did NOTHING. I was told it would be another 15 minute wait which is what every new customer was told at the host stand. Roughly 20% of the restaurant was full but still the 15 minute wait?? I asked our server why the long wait, perhaps they were understaffed. She told me it's the manager's preference to have people wait 15 minutes that way the kitchen isn't overwhelmed and you get your food quickly after ordering. This is a terrible decision as most people were audibly upset, some even said there's a table right here and sat themselves without the wait. This horrible management decision is how you lose customers. It's insulting to our intelligence to make us wait 15 minutes for no good reason when we can clearly see open tables all around the place. The food did not make the pointless 15 minute wait worth it. My food was flavorless and had low quality ingredients. My wife agreed. We waisted both our time and money visiting here. read more

One of the best breakfast joints I've ever been to. I will absolutely come back again and again. Outstanding food and service. Extremely clean. I have seen such good reviews of this place but have never been here, but they are all spot-on. Portion sizes are large and a good value. Only slight complaint would be that our waitress, although extremely nice, attentive, and knowledgeable, was a little too "in your face" in terms of being in the customer's personal space. The waitress leaned very close over the customers at our booth, requiring those sitting closest to her to have to lean back and look up at her, hoping that she wasn't coming down with a cold or flu, because her face was only a couple feet away from / above theirs. Also, when describing the menu items, the waitress reached out and took one of the menus off the table from in front of a customer - without asking permission or giving a warning - to turn it over and show us a food item. When doing so, she almost letting the skin of her arm brush up against the rim of the customer's water glass. Management needs to work on training the staff on proper food service etiquette, to be less brash, and to back off away from the table a bit, and to act a bit more reserved and deferent toward clientele. Then it will be a five-star experience. read more

I was looking for some breakfast on my last day in town, on the way to the airport, and this one had great Yelp reviews and was nearby. If you like biscuits, especially those with gravy, look no further! My biscuit was smothered in tasty gravy, but I could still tell that it was crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. Unfortunately, I forget his name, but my server did a great job: periodically asking if everything was OK and keeping my coffee full. I was seated quickly upon arriving and was able to get coffee and place my order. There is so much good stuff on the menu, but I had to make a decision. Of COURSE, I had to get something with a biscuit -- it's in the name of the place! I settled on the Mayberry, which is a biscuit and gravy with a sausage and cheddar omelet. I ordered grits instead of potatoes. The grits were cooked properly and served with butter. Nice! I put some Frank's sauce in the omelet to give it some spice, but it was also prepared perfectly with plenty of sausage and just the right amount of cheddar. The biscuit and gravy were the star of the plate, though. I'm the kind of person who likes gravy on my biscuit... if you are, too, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'm a big fan of breakfast, and have been to The Big Biscuit on several occasions, at numerous locations, but have never left a review. I felt today was the day to sing some praises and get a few things off my chest. First, the staff, service, decor and variety of options on the menu are all great. BB has you covered with eggs, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, biscuits & gravy, french toast, oatmeal, grits, their signature sticky biscuits and much more - and that's just the breakfast side of the menu. They offer a variety of lunch items as well. I usually opt for the blueberry pancakes or pecan waffles, but today I selected the Mayberry, a sausage and cheese omelet with biscuits & gravy and hashbrowns. The omelet was a little too done for me (with some browning and crispy edges), but it still had some redeeming quality and was tasty. Their biscuits & gravy is always delicious, and the hashbrowns were cooked perfectly. While I'm in agreement with most other Yelpers that they have decent prices, I feel there is one dish for sure that's priced a little out of whack from the norm. I get that they are proud of their biscuits & gravy, but $5.79 for a quarter order is a little pricey, especially when you just want a little sampling to accompany your pecan waffle. Luckily, when I'm feeling extra indulgent with my caloric intake, their menu offers plenty of combo options to help me explore a variety of breakfast culinary delights. Overall, my past experiences, excluding maybe this one because of my omelet, have all been a great start to the day.
