We arrived at Solvang around dinner time and we where all pretty hungry. Figured we would get something fast that the whole family can have since my kids are a little picky. This burger place was very close to our hotel ..walking distance. We got the Solvang special the meat was thin which I really liked because lately when the meat is to thick for some reason I don't enjoy it. Portion was a little small but filled us up. Got french fries and onion rings as well. The onion rings where a bit to crispy I was having a hard time bitting into it but the fries had a good seasoning to it. First nights dinner at Solvang was a success. read more

We were in town just to get away, change of scenery... before all the tourist arrive! It was pretty good for the most part. We had already decided we wanted to try the lil burger spot by the corner, we liked everything we preferred, big bopper burger, chicken tenders and Kringle fries w a tasty spice salt, the pastrami was good just not a lot of meat... and I did have to wipe away too much mustard, lol. But it was good. Cooked to order. Glad we could support a small family business, I think? They had some cool car rentals in back, not sure if they are in together. They are called MOKE ... small Jeep/ golf cart looking vehicles, to cruise around Solvang. Sorry I didn't take pics of food, my husband gets annoyed because I do it so much! This is an easy spot to grab a quick bite. Decently priced but I probably wouldn't be back because I think once is enough and there are other better options available in the area. I got the cheeseburger with fries. The burger patty was fine but the bun was drowned in mayo and sauce so was soggy and messy to eat. The fries were a bit undercooked even though they arrived warm and even with all of the apparent seasoning of salt/pepper and something else, they were bland and I didn't eat more than a couple. read more

They take phone orders, which is convenient if you're getting takeout. We ordered the kids chicken and chips and a plain double viking. The burger came out with everything on it.... The sides of fries we got were literally a little pinch. The chicken tenders were okay. The guy couldn't figure out how to use his card reader. Charged us .30, then .30, then 27.58 on a $26 transaction.. Overall this place is underwhelming. The food's very bland too. Keep driving down the street to see what else Solvang has to offer. read more

Food is average, but the employees need some re-training. I've been here many times over the past 6 months and just recently noticed they like to ring up combo meals as individual items so that the total is more expensive and they can make a few extra dollars. I am wondering how many people they have pulled this scam on. Be aware of this when ordering/checking out! This experience completely changed my view of this establishment and I do not think I will be returning. read more

The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great, I had the Big Bopper and it was a bit dry, and it was a rather tiny order of fries that came with it, and the soda was warm with very little ice. Again didn't hate it but I have had better at drive in type places. It was good enough that I will give them another try next time I'm up there. read more

Shit place . . . . . . This place is so crap where can I even begin. A few months ago I come to Solvang since I love the town and this place caught my eye, so I'm curious and I come to try it out, so as I'm ordering these people seem lost not only to mention the place is ghetto as heck and they also over did it with Mustard in my burger, they also burnt the buns on my burger and it tasted horrible like how stupid are these people. 1/10 wouldn't recommend coming. read more

The Big Bopper is for sure a classic spot! Charbroiled burgers and a Large selection of fast food that's cooked rather than warmed up. The pricing is around medium but the food is worth it. It also gives you a cool 50s/Danish fuel plus there's a wide open patio. The establishment is owned by two friends they are local and run the place themselves. I've been coming here for about 20 years I would recommend for sure to stop by and grab a bite if you're in the area. read more

I have lived in Solvang my whole life. Tonight, I could not get a to go order from any restaurant in town. I got a burger and onion rings from Big Bopper and it was awesome!! It had fresh, crunchy lettuce and fresh tomato. I haven't eaten there in quite a while, but that will change now. read more

There is nothing big about this place except the prices. Here you'll find a staff that barely speaks English, and in a place that is supposed to represent what I take from the name "Big Bopper drive in" is a 1950s burger "Drive-in" ? Although there was no drive in service at all. In the car port there were electric rental cars parked for rent with a makeshift charging station using the drive ins electricity. Making little room for actual customers. Let's get to the food.. we ordered two orders of taquitos, a side of beans, and chili cheese fries. The food comes out and the server did not give us forks. I was charged $3 for a side of bacon that is what I assume since he didn't know how to charge for a side of beans. The tiniest cup of beans I've ever seen and they were absolutely dry and cooked horribly. Each order of taquitos were so small and poorly executed. Along with the chili cheese fries. All of these items were served in a very TINY paper tray much like the kind you would use just for ketchup at a regular American burger stand. Tiny tray and tiny portions. All for a whopping $35. This places days are numbered. read more

This place was down the street from my hotel, so we ordered dinner and we were able to sit outside. We ordered the chicken strips with fries and the Viking Burger (a cheeseburger with bacon) with curly fries. The portions were so large we only ate half of our orders, but I enjoyed my burger and fries. Very tasty. My only complaint was the cleanliness of the outdoor eating area. The trash can was overflowing and the tables were dirty. But overall, the staff was nice and I liked the food. read more

Extremely disappointed with service, cost and quality of burger, upon looking at this burger joint it screams awesome however it came up severely lacking the burgers at cal tacos in Goleta are half the price and double the quality the service at cal tacos was amazing always a smile. I am a local and it's always a great place to have a nice lunch or dinner at. Great food. Love there burgers especially the double western Viking but a sleeper hit there is there tacos. They in my opinion have the best tacos in the valley. There are short staffs many of times but it's honest worth the wait. They go deliver as well with is great. Even on days when they don't have enough people to go out and deliver I don't mind heading over myself and picking up the food. Overall a great place! read more

This is the greatest experience I have had my whole time being in Solvang, I got the viking burger and oh my goodness it was wonderful. The meat was cooked to perfection the bun was crispy and the tomatoes were juicy. The food came very quickly but was not rushed. Although it looks like a whole in the wall, I can assure it's better than any burger spot in solvang. read more

Great! No frills joint where you order at the window and eat outside. My tri-tip sandwich was great, as were my wife's tacos. My son ate most of his cheeseburger which was a win, and the crinkle-cut fries were good - just a bit over and just the way they should be IMO hehe. i had ordered a big order for pick up for my family. i ordered a grilled cheese with tomato. this is what i fuckin got!!! i called the owner and made a complaint. told him i was really upset and dissatisfied with what i had pay for,i asked him to comp or at least make the cheese cover the whole bread next time. he said oh well you get one piece of cheese for each bread, if u want more cheese we have to charge you extra. wth?!?!? i just hung up, not going there anymore nor am i recommending his business! he was rude, cold and performed horrible horrible customer service. and i'm also a manager in customer service. and i am proud to say i'm very passionate about it. i'm never comming to this shit hole ever again . read more

They are ok. Average burger... Ordered the mayo and pickle off and they of their own accord doubled the yellow mustard to a point you could barely taste the rest. Fries and onion rings are good. Pricing is more like theme parks. Was also exceptionally disappointing that they charge fees for using debit/credit cards. Imo, that is part of doing business and you should not penalize your customers. Use a better less expensive POS system such as square. read more

If I could give it 0 stars, I would . Food is expensive & it's HORRIBLE. A corn dog is $5.19 & sucks. So called taquitos $5.99 & I'd rather eat poop then here again . Taquitos were as big as egg rolls . The so called Pico de Gallo is worse than Safeway. They literally only put 4 strands of shredded cheese. The meat was also disgusting. This place is a rip off! Well where can I start. I have been to this place before and I was not paying attention the other times. After watching numerous episodes of Kitchen Nightmares on YouTube lately, there is just something about microwaved food. Well, that happened today. I ordered a California Burrito and a Taco. I noticed that my burrito was being prepared and then.........into the microwave it went. It was checked twice by the cook. I didn't complain to them because they are nice people. You order at the front counter before being shown to your table, and once your food is delivered, it's not very likely that anyone will check on you. If you need a refill or anything else, you'll probably have to flag someone down. Even with that minor drawback, the food more than made up for it. Fantastic food, generous portions, a welcoming atmosphere, and a great spot for families. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in Solvang.

More on this below. The Ugly: * I ordered the Hazy IPA they had on tap, and when it arrived, I could tell it wasn't a particularly "hazy" Hazy IPA. But I figured some are better than others. For my second drink, I asked for the Clown Shoes IPA they had in a can. When the waitress returned with it, she admitted that the first beer she'd brought me was actually the same Clown Shoes IPA. Apparently, they'd run out of the Hazy IPA and decided to make the substitution without asking me. It's not a huge deal--I probably would have made the same substitution myself--but I definitely wouldn't have ordered a second one if I'd known it was the only IPA they had in-house. Like I said, it's not the end of the world, but for some reason, it just feels a little devious. Would they have made a substitution without asking a wine connoisseur? I would hope not, but now it kind of makes you wonder. Conclusion: Not a great experience here, from the hostess to the waitress to the food. I wish them luck.

The bread was a little firmer than I personally prefer, but it still worked well with the sandwich and didn't take away from the overall experience. We sat outside along the side of the restaurant and really enjoyed the seating area. Inside, the deli is just as interesting. They have displays of aged meats and a walk-in room arcade that feels like a hidden gem. It's a unique touch that adds a lot of character to the space. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. Great food, great atmosphere, and great hospitality. More concerning, the sole had capers--even though we specifically asked when ordering because my partner is allergic and were told it does not include them. Meanwhile, the chicken picatta, which should have had capers, had none. Portions were also quite small for the $22 price point. We tried calling the restaurant eight times with no answer. After contacting the liquor store it's located inside, we were told to call back in five minutes. When we did, the call wouldn't even go through. Since we couldn't reach anyone, we drove the 20 miles back to Buellton to request a refund. When I showed the chef the incorrect dishes, he insisted the picatta dishes come with pasta and produced a small, crumpled paper menu from under the counter showing that version. We were never given this menu and ordered solely from the board displayed above. There was no apology and no offer to remake the meals, only a refund when I requested it. The employee who originally helped us acknowledged they "haven't gotten around" to updating the board menu. Other reviews mention similar issues with discrepancies between the board and the paper menu, which suggests this is an ongoing problem. Thankfully, we received a refund and our tip back, but we drove a total of 60 miles and ended up without dinner, eventually eating at Blaze Pizza at 9:45pm after ordering from you at 6:15pm. Despite this disappointing experience, we would be willing to give your restaurant another try if complimentary meal vouchers could be offered. We understand that busy periods can lead to mistakes, but the lack of accountability and apology was the most frustrating part. Acknowledging errors and making things right builds trust. Photos of what was advertised versus what we received are attached. We hope for a better experience in the future; otherwise, we unfortunately will not return.
