Local (chain) coffee shop serving up tasty coffee drinks, tea, baked goods and breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. One morning I opted for the Beach Walk with Almond milk and it was so smooth and not overly sweet. I'm going to try to recreate it at home. We'll see. I'm not that good at duplicating things. I also got an apricot scone which was huge and I only ate half. I enjoyed the other half later in the afternoon and it was still great! The next time we went I got a hot green tea and the blueberry scone. I don't know how they get their water to lava hot but be careful. I accidentally spilled some on my hand and it was bright red and tender for an hour. The blueberry scone was also fantastic. Highly recommend this coffee shop! They have several locations. The one in Carmel by the sea is always slammed. We went to the one that is not that one and didn't have but a couple people in front of us each time. read more

Unfortunately not a great coffee experience this morning. I got the salty bee latte and only took a few sips before having to toss it. The drink was weirdly very thick and viscous, so it ended up being a pretty unpleasant texture. However the breakfast burrito I had was delicious! read more

Interior is very nice and open. Pastries are good (from Ad Astra, another bakery), but my oat milk latte was REALLY hot. My daughter ordered an ice chai latte with cold foam (5/5). The coffee was just right. Not too strong, but not too sweet. This place is way overhyped! I got the toasted marshmallow white chocolate mocha with oat milk with half the syrup and less ice. First of all, there is what seems to be sugar granules on the bottom of the latte, even if I tried to mix it. I'm not even a coffee snob, but this was not drinkable. I would like to give the coffee shop a benefit of a doubt that maybe this drink is only good for HOT lattes where the sugar would've melted. After spending the better part of the day exploring stops up and down Highway 1, we had only one thing on our mind when we got back into Carmel - a caffeine fix. So, you could say it was more than a little convenient that the first complex we hit off the highway (The Crossroads) also has one of the coffee shops I was most interested in around here - Carmel Valley Coffee! Not that I had heard anything specific about them (or this location), but after coming across their outpost on Ocean Ave and seeing that they had multiple locations listed on Yelp, I figured it was a positive sign that they were as good of a shop as any to check out on our trip! With three locations scattered around town (the third is near this one, at The Barnyard), you could argue that Carmel Valley Coffee is a "mini-chain" of sorts, given how relatively small Carmel is. However, that just speaks more to their success and popularity, as they feel far more local and family owned than the likes of Starbucks or Peet's. As for their menu, they have your typical staples, like espressos, cold brews, frappes, Italian sodas, teas, and hot chocolate, but what really stands out is their super interesting selection of house specialty and seasonal drinks. If you're looking for something to eat, they have a variety of breakfast foods, sandwiches, and pastries, many of which are sourced from regional vendors. -- FOGBREAKER - Vanilla, Honey, Cinnamon Latte The worker mentioned this was one of their most popular drinks, but we were planning on getting this anyways. The balance of the vanilla, cinnamon, and honey complemented each other really well, creating a sweet and somewhat spiced mix of flavors. -- CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF FOG - Organic Rishi Early Grey Tea, Vanilla Syrup, Vanilla Cold Foam, Honey Drizzle Not a coffee like we had intended, but this sounded too good on their summer menu to not try it. For me, I really liked how the earl grey didn't get lost in the vanilla syrup and cold foam and that this didn't taste overly sweet. That said, it could be because we lost some of the honey on the bottom of the lid. Along with our drinks (and the service, which we thought was pretty friendly), the other thing that I really liked about our time here was, quite simply, the vibe. Between the relatively chill pace of everything, the gorgeous weather, and just getting to sit and people watch like a local, the whole experience was so relaxing! Considering how far away this particular location is from downtown Carmel, I'm not sure sure if/when I'll be back, but if I'm passing by on my way down/up Highway 1, you can bet I'll be coming back again for another jolt of caffeine to keep me going! read more

3-4 stars. I appreciate that they had multiple alternative milks, including soy and oat. I'm pretty sure they didn't have any for-here mugs, only single use paper cups, which is a big downer for me. They did let us use our own thermoses. It was $5 for a soy milk steamer and was around $6 for an oat milk latte (can't remember exactly.) the drinks were *so* hot, feel like they could've maybe steamed the milk for a little less time. No vegan or gluten free pastries that we saw. The cashier seemed kinda annoyed with me asking questions, but I totally get it because it was kinda busy (there were like 6 ppl ahead of us when we got there around 9 am on a Saturday.) it's in a little shopping center with a lot of cute stores, would be a good place to meet a friend for a cozy drink before walking around. The coffee is hit or miss. Sometimes it's very good and other times it's not. Today I had the fog lifter and a slice of carrot cake. A go to spot to meet my friends in my hometown. The Crossroads location is lovely with great parking and away from the touristy Ocean Ave The vibe is clean, cozy and they play great coffeehouse- ish music at a perfect ambient volume . Fogbreaker latte with cinnamon and honey or the Beesting with a little lavender. Service is friendly, Coffee is a step down from Captain and Stoker, where I get straight pour over, but that place is a zoo! This place has comfortable seating, inside and outside, good service and great food options with tons of pastries as well as quiche and breakfast burritos. My husband says they made the best Mocha he has ever had. It is called a Ghirardelli Mocha. The coffee itself is delicious. I had a London Fog and the tea is complex and interesting in a very good way. Their house made coffee cake is incredibly moist. (12/19/19) "Oooh Carmel, Ca-Ca-Ca-Carmel." - My sister's catchy tune when we used to visit Carmel on family vacations. I love Carmel, and if you've ever visited, I'm sure you do too. If not the sweeping scenery or The Crossroads, then certainly the quaint and charming B&Bs that decorate Ocean Avenue. After a rejuvenating retreat in Big Sur, I stopped by -- as I always do -- at The Crossroads to enjoy a break from the windy drive of Highway 1. Being that I was back in cell range, I also had a ton of emails to review. This sounds like a job... for caffeine! Crossroads is a beautiful, outdoor boutique made up of everything for everyone: restaurants, books, exercise, trinkets, and the like. I could spend hours just exploring and having a good time, and as much as I would've liked to today, I did have a schedule to oblige. So, making all the nostalgic turns, I found myself at Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co., a corner shop with plenty of space to relax, work, and enjoy a coffee. I've been here some times in the past, and it is certainly good. I think they pride themselves more on their teas and specialty beverages, for the drip coffee is available via dispenser on the side of the counter. Indeed, I prefer the pour-over, ready-to-order format some cafes will do, but as it's been some years since my last visit, I thought I'd give their pre-made stock another go. On the suggestion of one of the baristas, I went for the Bourbon Barrel Aged coffee -- an Italian / Colombia roast (or Italian-roasted Colombia?) sporting flavors of bourbon, smoke, and sweet almond. It sounded like an intriguing must-try, and I'm glad I did! Being that I've been giving alcohol a rest, I don't have much bourbon these days. The nose of this coffee (forgive my snobbery) sufficed to harken fond memories of my favorite Kentucky styles, while the brew itself was as smooth and medium-roasted as assured. With a 16-oz to-go cup, I was adequately fueled for the remaining two hours of my drive to the Bay Area. So, thank you! I would like to preface this review with have a nut allergy to ALL NUTS. I have never eaten any nuts but my allergist tells me it would be anaphylaxis if I did. I went into the store wanted a break from my usual Starbucks crappy corporate chips and drink and got the Strawberry Parfait. I looked into it and saw it was granola on the top and yogurt on the bottom. I asked for an ingredients list because I was unsure. There was NO LABELING on the parfait itself. The associate did not know what was in it either. I assumed it was fine and took it home. I put it in my fridge for when I was going to do my homework later that night. I had a math test that night and I began to eat the parfait. My face becomes itchy and I start drooling. I have a runny nose and a terrible cough. My symptoms just get worse and I have to submit my test early. I am currently a college student still living with my parents and I go to tell my mom how I feel and she gives me Benedryl and sends me to bed. I did not finish the parfait, so the next morning I go to inspect it's contents and I find MINI CHOPPED BITS OF PECAN. I was furious. The next morning I go into the store and ask the associates working. They had no idea. I asked them to put a stick that says "CONTAINS NUT" or something of the sort and they said they have no power to do so. They just gave me another free parfait in response. I am still furious. I could have died. Tl;dr: there are pecans in a parfait with no labeling saying there is nuts in it. I eat it and have a reaction that lasts for hours. The store just gives me another parfait. Mehhhh, It was between a 2 or 3 star review. It was our first time here and would rather go to a (what we think is) local coffee shop over a commercial coffee chain that was nearby. So some good: Staff was nice and greeted us. Shop seemed to be clean and bright. They have free wi-fi which is great because reception in that area was pretty bad. Stuff we didn't like so much: Well, the coffee wasn't too impressive at all. We got a pour-over, and while my wife's cup had the hot water ran through in about what a pour-over time was (usually 5 minutes), my pour-over seemed rushed and watered down. Like instead of pouring the hot water and having it take the time to filter through the coffee grind, the staff kept the water running so my cup would fill at a faster rate. So at the end of it, the strength and taste was not there. If I wanted drive-through quality, I'd go a few shops away to their competitors.... read more
