I was planning a weekend trip to Albuquerque to visit my sister and her family and since I was traveling with my Mom, I figured that I'll need a break at some point so I checked into where I could rent a road bike. The BikeSmith had great reviews on Yelp and I'll have to say I'm going to give them another GREAT review! The road bike I had planned to rent was a Fuji Roubaix with Shimano Ultegra components and when I went to pick it up it was just as advertised. The BikeSmith included a seatpack with two tubes, a CO2 tire levers, a patch kit, and a pump everything that you might need out on the road. I took them up on the offer for a helmet and pedals although I brought own just in case. Everything worked out great I got in two rides even though I only rented the bike for a day, the cycling in Albuquerque was great, weather cooperated and I had a great time exploring the new (for me) area. My Friday evening ride was up the four fingers off the Tramway in Eastern Albuquerque and the other ride was Saturday morning down the Tramway to Route 66 and down 216 up and over the mountains in the Cebolla State Park to highway 313 and back to Route 66 back to the start. Overall experience was great and I'd rent from them again the next time I'm in ABQ. Give them a try! read more

They were knowledgeable of all the trails from beginner to high level experience trails. These guys were amazing!! We were there for the Balloon Fiesta and they found a bike for me in spite of calling late. The day we picked it up, we found out about the Sonoma, CA fires where we live, which had us completely preoccupied so that I was unable to use the bike - I was too concerned with whether my house was still standing or not. On returning the bike, they comped the rental - in spite of my willingness to pay. Just amazing people..... Such integrity. Please give them your business!! We decided to explore Albuquerque by bike today. We were in the heights when we noticed I had a flat tire. We bike leisurely and have not learned how to fix a flat tire yet. We called every bike store in the NE to fix my bike and no one could fix it in less than four hours. I came across the Bike Smith while searching the Internet. They would fix my flat in less than 30 minutes. We drive across the city to get there but it was totally worth it! It was such blessing to come across this shop. They shared their knowledge of the trails and educated us about tires and fixing a flat tire. Ron gave us a bike map and gave us tips on all the trails. He informed us about a farm around the corner that has a farmers market every weekend. Bikers stop there as a resting point. The shop is located close to the Bosque trail so we started our ride from there. We will be back for bike maintenance, lessons and anything else we need. Great folks and great service. read more

These folks are great, we were coming in to town for 4 days of sightseeing and wanted to ride one day. We made reservations in advance and the staff was very helpful the day we went to pick up our bikes they were getting ready to close but were kind enough to wait for us and get our bikes ready. The following morning there was flash flood warnings for the area and Gator was kind enough to call us to warn us the trail we were planning on riding was not a good idea. We decided with the warnings not to ride and we ended up returning the bikes which they were kind enough to give us a full refund. I look forward to going back and getting to ride next time and definitely will use The Bikesmith! Great people! read more

WOW!! I almost don't have the words to express just how impressed I was with my entire experience with the folks working at The BikeSmith. I went in for an initial assessment of my bike as summer weather is fast approaching and I wanted to make sure everything was in order... Jesse took the time to explain what he was checking for, taught me a bit about the cassette that was currently on my bike, and even gave me information about a women's mountain biking group right here in ABQ! Because my chain was a bit stretched and my cassette spikes were starting to wear, we opted to replace the gear, and I know have an additional two gears to shift to when the incline gets steep, (I've got my eyes on you, Sandia Crest). Upon picking up my bike from the tune-up, Jesse made sure I rode it around the parking lot a bit to ensure everything felt right. Because he took the care of this extra step, we were able to work out a minor final kink with the gear shift. The energy of this storefront is peaceful and inviting, and these guys take the time to make sure you, the customer, are in the know every step of the way. I will be returning for any and all of my future bike needs! I'm so grateful that others have left such honest and great reviews, because YELP is how I discovered the BikeSmith in the first place. Staff was very helpful and courteous offering suggestions for where to go and what to see. Bike was light and held up to my 40+ miles of riding over the 24 hr period. I was in Albuquerque for a weekend conference and saw that this bike shop was close to my hotel (Hotel Albuquerque) and the Rio Grande bike trails. I called in advance and they set me up with a great women-specific bike for the weekend. Staff provided super service, good fitting, well-maintained bike, reasonable advice, and trail advice. These guys are great. All I've rented was a buggy for my toddler but I've brought my bikes here for service multiple times over the last three years. They do an amazing job and are more accommodating than larger stores which employ more mechanics. I live a few hours from Albuquerque and only come in about once a month. A week before my next trip to ABQ, I called the mega store where I bought my road bike (rhymes with 'port mist-ems') and asked if they could do a tuneup on a specific day. They said 'first come-first served', declined to make me an appointment, and expressed doubt that it could be done in a day regardless of when I brought it in. BikeSmith made me an appointment and got my tuneup done the same day. read more

I came to Albuquerque to meet up with friends and do some mountain biking. After considering the damage that my Giant 29er would receive courtesy of the airlines, I decided to rent a bike. My expectations were that I would receive some low end, beat up bike from a high school kid that didn't know anything. WRONG on all counts. Rick and Ross set me up with a great 29er that was similar to my Giant and even changed out the pedals for my shoes. They were thorough in explaining the self patching, CO2 chargers,etc. the bike performed great, even on the rugged Sandia Crest Ski downhill trails. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in renting a bike. read more

Very good customer service. Took time to fit helmet and bike. Swapped pedals for my own. Printed a map of a route for me since they did not have a bike map beyond the local Albuquerque area to buy. Felt very prepared for flats - 2 tubes, co2, pump and sealant in tires. Also, was able to tell me about 2 groups to meet local riders that have regular rides. Good location, easy parking and access. We recently rented bikes from this shop while vacationing in ABQ. We got great bikes, but we were even more impressed with the service. We were fitted for appropriate bikes, fitted with helmets and given equipment to deal with biking problems such as flat tires. The owner provided us with maps and advice for the areas we planned to bike. We could not be happier and we felt that the owner was very conscientious and went way beyond the service many bike shops provide. We would definitely do business with this owner again. Honestly it's been a few months since I've been in the store, but my wife and I have been trying to keep up with yelp reviews because of how yelp has helped our business. Every time we have come to this location, though, we have had a great experience. We love to rent their bikes for our family and friends who come to visit from other states and countries. The staff have always been friendly and knowledgeable and we have never had an issue they couldn't resolve. Our guests love coming in and trying out bikes for the best fit, and then being able to enjoy some of the amazing bike trails we have here with my wife and I. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is even considering renting. They see to every little detail, including a proper fit on the helmets, and the right pedals for your shoes, not to mention all the necessary stuff for bike maintenance while you're on the road.
