As a customer of the former "Willie Birds" (and "The Bird" at its former location) since the late 1980s, I gave "The Bird" (in its new location) a chance and was sorely disappointed. The good: -The new location is fine - feels new inside. -The patio is cool. -There was live music when I went. -The server and bus person were nice. The bad: -Prices are up. -The food itself was noticeably different and not as good as it was at the former location. -No more soup & salad & bread & relish plate with your meal. We got to pick soup or salad and received nothing more. -The dining room is loud, mostly from the banging going on in the kitchen. -Upon entry, it's not really apparent where you should go. No signs stating "seat yourself," although once acknowledged, we were told to seat ourselves. -The restaurant charges a 3% "convenience fee" if you pay by credit card - I have never dined at a legitimate restaurant that does that. It's an amateur tactic. I had to try "The Bird," given my long history with it, under two names, on Santa Rosa Avenue. I won't be going back. read more

You never get a second chance to make a first impression! Yes, we read the review before deciding to go. Yes, we were prepared to wait...for everything. We were NOT prepared for our experience. It takes guts, drive and a lot luck to make it in the restaurant business. It takes 100% MORE than that to open a new business today. The Bird gets points for taking that risk and I hope they get their logistical act together. Guests need to be greeted upon entering and shown to a table...not an impersonal "sit anywhere". Menus and set-ups need to be on the tables. Wait staff needs infinitely more training. Customer care was non-existent and the staff was completely frazzled. The Bird is NOT ready to be open to the public. Our waitress, one of 2 saving graces, told us this was a "soft opening" tonight. Sorry- no excuse. Open and be READY to be judged on what you put out there, or don't open, yet. Or, if you must open when not ready, manage your customers' expectations by saying up front that this is a trial period and "please bear with us". This makes your customer understanding and prepared for the learning curve. Soft or hard opening, you put your best and most ready foot forward when you open. Your reputation is made on day one- even with a soft opening. Completely under trained staff, understaffed by at least half, bar tender bussing tables, had to get our own menus, had to ask for set-ups and sat next to empty tables that sat dirty for 30 minutes. The owner was walking around with a pizza peel yet there was no pizza on the menu. It was offered to a select group of diners- not cool. Some expert consulting, more staffing and a boatload of training and hopefully they'll have a chance. No, I haven't mentioned the food. Stoped in here with my entire family plus 8 lol and they accommodated us right away. The server informed us on the specials and right away I ordered the lasagna! Everyone else at the table ordered different plates because we had to try all the different BBQ options they had! Was not disappointed one bit with the service or food here. A new restaurant in North East Santa Rosa, cool! Our normal Saturday evening dinner group (there are six (6) of us) decided to check out the new place. Disappointed does not even cover the feeling. We all arrived about 6:10pm. We were able to get the corner table and waited, and waited, and waited. No one greeted us, brought menus or anything. It was loud. On 6/7/23 I had take out. A fantastic sandwich with turkey, bacon, tomato, avocado, etc with tater tots included. Just a wonderful meal and the tater tots are absolutely out of this world. It's the first time I've ever tried their food. I don't know why they don't advertise in the Kenwood Press newspaper which everyone in Oakmont and the Kenwood area gets for free. Mother's Day Specials were fabulous!!! The porcini truffle ravioli with lobster sauce was one of the most beautiful things we have ever tasted! I had the cedar plank apricot salmon with sautéed veggies & mashed potatoes. First time here and it was alright. I feel a little bad saying that because the service was fantastic. Our server was very nice and made good recommendations. My fiancé and I went here because it's close to home and I saw they had prime rib on Saturdays. I'll never turn down a place that has prime rib! We sat right away and I noticed they had a full bar, but no drink menu so you're kind of on your own with what drink to order. I just went with my usual Moscow mule which was a tiny bit watered down. When we ordered, I asked for the prime rib and was told they didn't have it (which was disappointing when it says on their menu they have it on Saturdays) but great service again and they recommended the rib eye which I went with. I ordered it medium rare and when it came, I was a little bummed that it wasn't very warm. I soon found out why when I cut into it and it was raw. Not even rare. It was raw. I hate being that person to send back food, but I had to in this case. When the chef/owner brought out a new steak for me, he offered another Moscow mule on the house which was a perfect way to handle that. And I so appreciate their hospitality and professionalism with what is always awkward for the person sending back their plate. May go back and give it another shot, but it won't be a place I'll think of right off the bat. read more

Bad Food. Bad service. Bad management. Bad lighting. One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in my life. Food was way too salty. We ordered the prime rib medium rare. Came well done and very dry. Ordered fries instead of the twice baked potato, which really had been baked and baked again for sure more than twice. Ordered a salad, never got it. No fries either. My companion ordered the NY steak medium rare. He waited and waited to be served his dinner. Finally, I summoned the manager. He determined the waitress never placed the order. We ate in shifts. His dinner came well after I finished mine. It was horrifically over cooked. Many other patrons around us were having difficulties as well. The waitress was carrying around plates of food clueless as to which table ordered them. The bill came. Had to fight with the incompetent waitress to take the items off the bill we never received. Still not sure if we got ripped off but I suspect so. $132 later I complained to the manager. He offered a free drink. Big deal. He should have taken both entrees off the bill. They were both completely unsatisfactory. I declined any freebies since all we wanted to do was get out of there and erase all memories of this dreadful experience. This place is an abomination. They not only disappoint patrons; they infuriate them with bad food, bad service, and bad vibes. There ought to be a law against restaurants bringing in unqualified workers and tormenting their patrons because they do not have enough common decency to shut down the place if they cannot adequately service customers. I will not only will never return to this rip off joint but will shout from the roof tops to anyone even thinking of dining here to run in another direction. In opting for a "no family" holiday, we needed to find a good turkey dinner to satisfy my husband's traditional desires. We came across The Bird online and read reviews. Since they serve turkey everyday, we decided they must know what they are doing. We made reservations and received a text reminder, which was nice. The location, is basically a bar but that was ok with us. If you are looking for fancy, this isn't it. The service was good, we were seated immediately. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and the servers were engaged, not checked out. Tamus got the turkey dinner and I ordered prime rib. Both meals came with sides and the rolls came out promptly. We ate until, we were basically in a food coma. My very picky husband, was happy . I was happy to have options other than turkey. It as a win. He only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was price and pie. The pie was really not good. The crust was doughy and the filling hyper sweet. Also, I felt we paid way more for everything than the bar environment normally would be. My cocktail was $20? Anyway, enjoyed it and would go again, but maybe not on Thanksgiving. read more

FYI - Most of the reviews have been written under the old name, Willie Bird Turkey. Ok, so when you walk out of a place, you can't give it more than one star, can you? But I must say, in our retreat we got lucky not to have to endure the changes to a place that had a very, very soft spot in our hearts. For instance, in another review a person talked about the demise of the Blue Cheese Dressing, and that was enough for me. I used to have buckets of that stuff on my turkey salad with two adds of avocado. I'll save you from the details and go to the 'big picture'. Here's what amazes me. Somebody buys something, a restaurant in this case, for untold hundreds of thousands of dollars and doesn't stop to figure out what they just bought. They don't stop to figure out what the cultural assets are, the physical assets are, and where the magic is. Apparently the analysis is limited to, can I squeeze a little more money out of it? Assuming that former cash flow will stay in place, and then they proceed by instituting take-aways. I wish I had that kind of money such that I didn't have to do the homework on my deals. Here's the homework they missed. Clue #1 - When you come into a place and they know your name, what you drink, what you are going to order, and how you want it... you have just bought a family place. The staff considers you as family, and you consider them as family. Clue #2 - Your staff are your professionals. Just like in the financial adviser world, when the professionals change firms, they take the clientele with them. Exactly what happened here, except the staff just scattered. I don't know this for a fact, but I'll betcha, the staff did not feel valued... and left. Clue #3 - Your customers have favorites. Know what they are before you buy the joint to make sure you can deliver them. And there is no profit you can squeeze out of those favorites. When you read between the lines, you can see my sheer and utter sorrow that one of the cultural icons of Sonoma County has been snatched from us. Good luck, buddy. read more

5 of us tried it out recently at 6 pm on a weeknight. Very disappointing. Our server was not very friendly, service was slow, drinks were slow, menu has been pared down (no turkey leg - gasp) and prices seem to have been raised. I ordered the turkey dinner and asked for dark meat. I was served last of our group and received white meat. I questioned the server and she went and checked with the kitchen and they said they ran out of dark meat. At 6 pm??? All of our food was served cool to lukewarm. After driving super far off 101 to try this place on a road trip because I missed the old restaurant so much, I was surprised to see a dark, cold bar with tv on loud. I ordered the Turkey dinner, since it was a classic at willie birds that I missed so much, and it was extremely disappointing, only white meat available and I swear it was thick cut lunch meat turkey. If that's not the case, then it was extremely overbrined, crunchy and salty. RIP Willie Birds, wish I could have had you one last time, if you want soup or salad now it's +$6 read more

In my opinion, this is the best BBQ in town. On Fridays I go there for the BBQ baby back ribs. Aside from being delicious, the meat actually falls off the bone. The amount of BBQ sauce is minimal so as to add to the flavor of the meat, as opposed to hiding it like in other establishments. Food was OK, service was terrible (1 waiter for the entire restaurant) and the atmosphere was like Chuck E Cheese. Family with several small kids let them run around the entire restaurant and pound on the piano showing no respect for the other diners. When I mentioned to the (I assume mom?) that her family was disrupting the establishment, she told me to "get a life" and "she was in a public place". Won't be going back there! read more

The ranch dipping sauce was ok. The white meat turkey was skinless and unseasoned - no flavor. It was moist . The Monte Cristo was a biggest letdown. It was no Monte Cristo, it was a triple decker grilled cheese sandwich on French toast . My friend & I decided to try lunch there today... bad decision! I ordered the Turkey Club with French Fries. The sandwich looked appetizing enough, but tasted like mold! There was no spread on the bread, dry. Asked for a small sample of their Potato Salad... NO! Over kill on the dill. Did I say dill? WHO puts dill in their potato salad? My friend ordered the Turkey, Bacon, Avacado sandwich with French Fries. The Turkey was very dry and bland. The cheese was rubbery. The bread was dried out. We ordered drinks to go with our meal. A Bahama MaMa for each of us. These drinks came back PINK with a lime wedge... WHAT?!? Where's the Pineapple wedge. Since when is this drink PINK? We both tasted our drinks at the same time & at the same time set them down with, "this is going back"! Whatever they made this drink out of, it was not Malibu Rum! My friend ordered water & I decided to give ordering another drink one more try, keeping it simple & old school... a Tom Collins! The waitress then asked me, "is that with Gin or Vodka"? Told her I wanted a Tom Collins & if the bar tender knew how to make the drink then they'd know what to put in it! We ended up in a Tête-à-tête. She was very confrontational.
