Frankly, the atmosphere is enough to pay a visit to the Bistro at Edgewood. My family and boyfriend were enchanted by the serene view combined with our luxe surroundings. We found ourselves wishing we'd booked this resort instead... Maybe another time. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance, but there was enough seating that walk-ins were likely fine. Our outdoor table had the most stunning view of the lake, yet sheltered from any intrusive breeze. The food itself is stellar, nothing short of what to expect of a 5-star resort. CHICKEN & WAFFLE: Loved the juicy, tender chicken with the crispy-yet-fluffy waffle. This was the first time I've seen chicken & waffles served with candied walnuts! Added a refreshing burst of crunchiness and sweet. Comes with a strip of bacon and assorted berries. MIMOSA: It's a standard mimosa. Nothing to complain about. Our server graciously informed us that we were free to enjoy the Edgewood grounds after our meal, even only as daytime visitors. Further out beyond the fire pits, lush greenery, and trees, a narrow shoreline dotted with beach chairs bordered the lake. Naturally, we explored as much as we could. This place is phenomenal. My husband and I made a reservation here during our stay at Edgewood Tahoe and we couldn't stop raving about the food. The service and ambiance was equally excellent. I had the corn bisque soup and the halibut entree. Both were beautifully presented in their bowl and plate but also, really delicious! My husband had the halibut crudo and the filet entree. The filet was so good that he ate it so quickly! I barely saw it on the plate. We completed our meal with the apple crisp. Amazing and the perfect way to end the meal. Took an hour and a half for full brunch service. Really really slow staff. Reserved outdoor seating and they tried to seat us inside. Server told us of being fired and continued to say very distasteful things about management While giving us minimal attention. Why would you fire someone and let them continue to work for 3 days? A beautiful spot, service was good. Food was about at an Applebees level at triple the cost. Spent $400 on dinner and only one of us (6 people) even got an entre. The $25 salad had some mediocre lettuce and peaches that were too hard to eat. The pasta primavera was overcooked and mushy. The Mac and cheese was good, but the everyone agreed the chicken fingers our 2 1/2 year old got was the best thing on the table. Had dinner with wife and two kids here when we stayed at the resort. We went the first night of our stay on a Monday, and the place was not too busy. We were greeted and seated immediately by the nice host. The ambiance was chill and they had a nice open kitchen. Our waiter, Garret, was exceptional and we had some small talk as he took our orders. Along with the bus boy, I felt they did all the little things to make our dining experience top notch, including bringing sharing plates, removing done dishes, and topping off our waters without our asking. We were checked on quite frequently by staff to see how we were doing, to which at one point my four year old enthusiastically gave the female manager(?) a thumbs up in regards to his food. The wife and I had a nice chuckle afterwards because neither of us received that kind of praise at home before, and neither of us knew he (a four year old) would have responded in such a cute manner. Food-wise we ordered the caesar salad, 42oz tomahawk steak, and the red pasta off the kid's menu for the kids. Salad: Everything was nice and crunchy, and the salad had a couple thinly sliced fish on top. Red pasta: Cavatappi topped with tomato sauce. Nothing special here but the kids loved it. Steak: Cooked to our liking (medium rare), tender, juicy, and it came with mac and cheese, some greens, au jus, and this other dipping sauce. It was served pre-sliced, and the middle slices definitely needed to be either dipped in sauce or seasoned lightly with salt for our tastes. After we finished, staff read my mind and wrapped the huge bone in aluminum foil togo as the wife and I were pondering whether it would have been too tacky for us to ask for something to put the bone in for our dog. Awkwardness averted!!! Double thumbs up!! Overall, we were all extremely satisfied with our meal and dining experience. Granted it did not seem like an extremely busy Monday night, the service was textbook! Aftermath: Unfortunate as it was, approximately 3 hours upon retiring to our room, both wife and I took turns on the toilet with vomiting and diarrhea. Wife's symptoms lasted approximately 24 hours as she was able to throw up most of the food, while mine lasted all 3 nights that we stayed at the resort and essentially our entire vacation. Both the kids were fine luckily though. We suspected the culprit was the steak, and so although disgruntled, we understand that there are inherent risks of consuming undercooked foods. To our surprise, even our dog had diarrhea on our carpet after gnawing the trimmings off the bone after a couple hours. Needless to say we tossed the bone out immediately. To end on a semi-positive note, upon learning this the resort did take an incident report and offered us some gatorade upon our request, which was nice. Turns out that I spent an extra $36 total on 2 of these salads by adding a "salmon fillet"... it wasn't even that food either. One salad (no protein) is $16 which is fine. Could buy a whole salmon at Costco for that price and have servings for days or a whole family. Also not sure what Caesar salad ever has tomatoes ?? Anyways, everything is super overpriced! A beautiful bistro in a beautiful space. It was actively snowing which added the most amazing touch to our view. All the seats are within sight of the huge windows, so there is not one bad seat in the house! The staff was so attentive and had great suggestions, I felt really taken care of. They do complimentary valet if you're dining in! As for the food, they do breakfast so well and I was not disappointed at all. *Need to give a quick shout out to the buttermilk pancakes because those were to die for*. This is a high end luxury hotel with it's own gold course and 2 restaurants. We made a dinner reservation at 6pm at Bistro Edgewood. The interior looks amazing. We ordered Filet Mignon and the special of the day, Cioppino. The Cioppino is one of the best I had tasted. The Filet Mignon is tender. We ordered the Lobster bisque and beets salad as well. We also ordered desserts , the black and white Tuxedo and the Basque cheesecake. We enjoyed our dinner so much. Found this spot while looking for a late night dinner. Its inside a hotel and parking is all valet only during the day. At night i dont know but it was late and i just parked wherever lol. The place is really nice its located inside the Edgewood resort hotel. We stood at the front for a few min and a really cool waiter came over to help us and get us seated. Shout out to Doug who was also our waiter for the night. His service was 5/5 (give this man a raise) The ambiance of the place is really classy and modern. You would think you need to dress really nice (maybe you do?) but they took my ragged ass in haha So we ordered the appetizers Fries with fried cheese 5/5 amazing I couldn't stop eating it Margarite pizza 3/5 i liked it but I probably had something else in mind so i was disappointed Mussels in curry 5/5 the best you have to try this! Entrees Primavera with Salmon 4/5 a few of the pasta was kind of hard or uncooked salmon was amazingly Lamb chops 5/5 we tore into this plate it was so juicy and perfect Total about 220$ so keep that in mind when you go! The Bistro was such a great stop for drinks and brunch. The interior decorations are so warm and inviting. I appreciate that all of the staff was friendly, greeted us, and made sure that we were satisfied with everything. Unfortunately, not all establishments in South Lake Tahoe create a culture of inclusion. However, the bistro exceeded my expectations and the staff took great care of us. I didn't get to snag a picture of the amazing chicken and waffles...but that meal definitely stole the show! I was very surprised to taste that southern comfort well seasoned bite of perfectly fried chicken and waffles in my mouth. I definitely will go back specifically for the chicken and waffles! Best sunset view in the area. We got takeout and ate by the beach. They don't do outdoor seatings in the evening because it is too cold after sunset. The bone marrow was amazing. Super rich, just enough seasoning and garnishes. Our favorite was the red curry mussels, similar to thai curry and the sauce was super flavorful, came with bread great for dipping. Our least favorite was the Ai Funghi E Salsiccia: Elk Sausage, Wild Boar Salami, Soppressata, Smoked Provolone, Wild Mushrooms, And Herbs $19. The ingredients and the pizza were good but altogether was a bit too salty to our liking. I can't stress this enough but bring layers and watch the sunset here. Party of 3 for an early dinner. The waitress was Karen and she was a joyful, kind person. Great job Karen! Beautiful ambiance. Hardly anyone here. Cold outside but nice and toasty inside. Ordered the Bao Buns with pork belly, kimchi, and crab. Everything tasted so well. Ordered the clamps chowder, it is honestly one of the best I've had!!! The short rib was falling apart, so tender and juicy, full of flavor. The filet mignon was extremely salty. It was cooked perfectly and was just salty. Karen offered a new dish but we decided just to keep it. Lori, the manager came to check on us and offered a dessert for the salty dish. We ordered the apple pie for dessert, once again....so delicious! The crumb is perfectly crunchy and tasteful.  Emanuel was our busser and we never had a dirty dish on our table. Constant refills. Disclaimer: I would actually give this a 3.5 stars, but it's not an option so I rounded up. We came here for breakfast and it was good. A decent amount of options for food and drinks. We ordered oatmeal, two egg omelet, biscuits and gravy, and the chicken and waffle. Overall, it was good. Definitely pricey. The chicken and waffle was ok. I've had better. The waffle was quartered, but lacked flavor even when I poured some syrup on it. The fried chicken thighs that came with it was ok...it was bland in flavor and lacked the crispiness that I would have liked. I was pleasantly surprised by the 3 slices of bacon that also came with it because I wasn't expecting that. The biscuits and gravy were delicious according to my husband. He also got a side of sausage, which came out with three patties and were delicious. Our server was very personable and attentive. The view out to the lake was gorgeous. I would recommend reservations just to be safe. I'm not sure how quickly I'd go back as it was pricey for the food that I experienced. I would give it a second chance in the future. read more

Dinner 8/24/2020 We've eaten here a few other times before and have always enjoyed a lovely meal. This dinner was no different. It was so nice to sit outside and enjoy the fresh, cool mountain air. Mind you it was super crowded on a Monday evening ... just how it is "these days"... but Bistro did a really good job on spacing out the tables and seating. (Of course, they couldn't do anything about the kids running around all over the place and yelling.) Garrett was our server and he took really good care of us. We started with a couple of starters and a bottle of wine. Starters: Avocado and Red Pepper Humus and the Red Curry and Lime Mussels I could have just made the mussels the main course with my wine. It was sooooooo good! Alas, I was good and shared them. The mussels were large and meaty! And that red curry lime sauce!!!! They could make that a soup and just serve it as is.... Fantastic! You do have to like red curry, and it had just a slight little kick to it which was perfect as you needed to give the mussles a litte something-something to counter the brine. The humus dips were good... but nothing super exciting when compared to the mussels appetizer. Then ordered a couple salads and our entrees. The Lodge (dinner) salads were large (lots of fresh mixed greens!) I helped my mom eat hers since I didn't order a salad. I mostly ate all the mussels to start. ha! For dinner we each had a different fish dish. All were tasty! I only tasted my own dish, Chilean Seabass so I can't speak to the other ones. But mine was perfectly prepared. Light but filling. This place crushes it every single time. Great food, great service, and great views. When I take my parents on drives out to Tahoe this is where we eat. Yes it's a bit pricey, but the experience is more than just the food. You have a beautiful beach just steps away, the hotel lobby is wonderful spot to sit and chill (huge windows!), and after 5p there's a free hot coco bar with your choice of toppings. Scallops and shrimp are cooked to perfection, but the seafood flavor crashes with the sweetness of the yam creating imbalance. Lambchops - my friend got this but according to her its 8/10. Filet Mignon - 2/10, the sides were burnt and its a nasty crusty feeling. Dont get me wrong, I usually love the burnt sides but this one just had a terrible taste to it. They got it off my bill but its still bad nevertheless. We are very find of the Bistro and have been there many times. Today however was less than stellar. My husband and I went for brunch. The food and drinks were delicious. While staying at The Edgewood in early January, my partner and I had lunch one day and breakfast another day at The Bistro Edgewood and had mixed thoughts on our two experiences at this restaurant. Both times we went there the service was painfully slow. It took a very long time for every dish to come out (so much so that during lunch, someone came by to ask if we were done with our appetizer plates, when they were clearly clean still...we had just been waiting forever for food to arrive). It was difficult to flag down staff for refills on drinks. For our breakfast specifically, we did not make reservations and when we showed up they asked if we had reservations and we said no. We were told that we would need to wait 20-25 minutes. Normally that's fine, but there were so many empty tables and while waiting I clicked on Open Table to see if reservations were open. Sure enough there were open reservations in 15 minutes that I could have reserved to be seated faster, but we decided to wait it out to be seated thinking that maybe they were understaffed. It still didn't feel good though to see that. For breakfast, we were impressed with the food. My boyfriend ordered chilaquiles with a side of bacon and I ordered an omelet with ham, bacon, cheese, and mushrooms. The omelette was the perfect size and not overly filling. I tried some of my boyfriend's chilaquiles and they were also so good! The side of bacon was cooked crispy, but not too crispy. For lunch, we ordered the saffron mussels to share and I ordered a caesar salad with chicken, while my boyfriend ordered the ramen. The saffron mussels were sooo good. Plenty of sauce for dipping bread and a healthy portion of mussels. I did not like the caesar salad at all. The chicken was dry and there was hardly any dressing. The ramen also had a unique flavor unlike any ramen we have ever had - we couldn't pinpoint what the flavor was, but we didn't like it. We would definitely recommend sticking to ramen restaurants to order ramen and not ordering at somewhere not specializing in ramen. We should have known better than to order ramen here. For drinks, I ordered their mulled wine which was incredible...I ordered this from the bar quite a few times during our stay. My boyfriend enjoyed some old fashions and thought they were well prepared. Would we go here again? Maybe just because it is convenient while staying at the hotel. But knowing how slow the service is, we would definitely need to build in extra time for breakfast or lunch before any excursions when eating here in the future...and also always make a reservation. read more

Edgewood is an elegantly modern resort. The lakefront location is stunning. The food is mediocre at best, and I've dined on all day parts: lunch, dinner and brunch. I always over order to sample most of the menu + cocktails. My review covers a strong breadth of menu options. Don't expect even the most common dishes to meet basic palettes - a balsamic beet salad or classic breakfast. Wilted sad salad, cold potatoes and eggs. Shameful. Pork belly, ceviche...don't. Service: 50/50 depending on the waiter and how many guests decide to...eat during normal breakfast or dinner hours. I had the most terrible experience - making excuses for wrong orders, wrong bill. Included their large group 20% service fee and I disappointingly paid. Should not be considered fine dining. Or appetizing. Locals told me to go to Red Hut. read more

As part of the bday trip I had my sights set on coming to the Bistro at Edgewood. Upon driving through what felt like a secret pathway and walking into the building it was something out of a movie. Very intricate decor, and nothing I have experienced before. Having made reservations, we made with a few minutes to give. Being guided to our table, which was the window view had the most incredible views I had ever seen. I'm thankful to have had dinner reservations before the sun went down - 5:30 p.m. as that was perfect to catch the sun setting and take some great window shots. Upon being seated it felt like a production of staff being around and keeping things seamless. We ordered the meat charcuterie, and pepperoni flatbread. I also had the Ginger smash, which was a little bitter for me but I still enjoyed it. Service was decent, there were times where we weren't sure where to find the waiter but looking behind there were table upon table of people sitting there. But the experience overall was incredible. The waiter even came out with an ice cream and candle. I ordered the Pumpkin cheesecake which was amazing, smaller on the portions but delicious. Edgewood is an excellent 5 star resort. The ambiance, architecture, the beach, combine to make a wonderful space. Last night 5 of us went to have dinner at the Bistro. WHAT a let down; sad to report. Bar drinks were "very good"; appetizers were "good", but the entrees were "disappointing". Out of 5 people in our party, we had to send back 3 of our entrees. That should tell you how bad of a dinner experience we had. First up: Heirloom Risotto with a side of Lobster tail. Risotto was not cooked, tasted like hard jasmine rice. Trust me, I'm Chinese and I know what Jasmine rice tastes like. Can't the Chef TASTE the food before leaving the kitchen? Is it really hard to take a small spoon and do a taste check? Were you too busy? Were you too full? Do you actually care what guests think of your cooking? Please take some PRIDE in your dishes. As the night was late (9:00pm), we did not ask for a re-cook. Second up: Lobster pasta (tagliatelle). We had 2 orders for our table. This dish was BAD; no other way to describe it. Watery, (not a cream sauce base), the pasta had zero taste, had to ask for salt and pepper, and that did not help either. The bacon that is part of the recipe was limp and bland looking, cut into 1" strips and stirred into the pasta. Visually very UN-appealing. The lobster pieces had no flavor. I am not sure if even a cream base would have helped this particular dish. We were told that this dish had been an "issue" recently, so why continue to have it on the menu? Looks great on the menu, but in the end it gets sent back to the kitchen? Who benefits? The guest is disappointed, the restaurant loses on the revenue, and gets a bad reputation. This dish was a hot mess, the liquid broth washed out whatever flavoring the kitchen may have added. How can pasta taste this bad? Maybe you forgot to add salt to the water? Maybe you don't care what the pasta taste like? Again, tasting the dish before leaving the kitchen would help? Both entrees we sent back and did not wish to have anything else (but the manager did offer). Recommendation to the Chef - TASTE your own food before serving the guests. Finally: Wine by the glass. We had ordered a glass of very fine wine (St. Emillion) from the bar menu; one of the more expensive wines. The wine was delivered in a small glass carafe for a 6oz. pour. Normally, for a house wine this presentation would be fine; BUT if you order a "better" wine, you need to bring the bottle to the table, and pour the wine from the bottle. Any better wine should be served in this manner for sure. Serving from a carafe or pre-pouring into the wine glass should be only for a HOUSE wine. If I am paying $20+ for a glass of wine, please show me the bottle; this level of service should be standard for a 5 star resort. As they they say in Jerry MaGuire, "show me the bottle!!!" * We have to give props to the restaurant manager April. When we made her aware of what was happening; she was very understanding and apologetic for the food, and made the effort to correct these problems. HER service was 5 star. read more

This review is mainly for the food. The scallop dish has 3 scallops, 4 mussels, and 2 shrimps as shown in the picture. The mussels are not fresh at all and scallops even have a ammonia smell after the bite while shrimps are good. Considering this is a high end hotel restaurant but the freshness of some seafood is really questionable. read more
