So this used to be a place that my husband and I used to pick up from often. But after the last two times we won't be buying from here anymore. My husband picked up Chicken soup a few days ago and it was not good. There was literally like an entire carrot in it not cut up or cooked properly. Then this time we ordered picadillo (ground beef) with rice and beans and pan con bistec (steak sandwich). The rice was hard and clumpy like as if was a day old and the beans looked like they had been poured out of a can. It was so bad my husband actually drove back and asked for a refund because we couldn't even stomach paying for that. The steak sandwich was soggy and not as good as it normally is. We are so sad because we really like to support local/small business but you gotta give people quality food. read more

Cheap lunch special $6.95 for an CUBAN entree of the day, come with brown or white rice/beans/plantains (substitutable with fries!) and a side of garlic bread. Service: great and friendly service, food comes almost right away! Lots of locals eat here, may be crowded during lunch hours. Food: very big portion, prepared to share! Beef stew with carrots and potatoes - a lil salty but it allows you to down it with your rice! Almost taste like curry beef but not as intense as indian or thai curry, pretty blend even though it has lots of spices in it. Pepper beef with bell pepper and onions - taste almost like flank steak stir fried from chinese restaurant, nothing special but still tasty! Price: very decent and reasonably cheap! Parking: small lot with about 12-15 spots Lunch special is a steal, great price, great portion, and great taste! read more

About the only cuisine I haven't taken the time to find up here in Hollywood is Cuban, since I have my mainstays in Miami. My brother is in town for the holidays and needed some Cuban food in his life but we didn't feel like driving down to Aventura, so onto yelp we went to seek some out. This place was within the top three on our list, not even three miles away and with great reviews, so we gave it a look. Parking is a little tentative; the restaurant is right off busy 441, which is presently under construction. We found parking easily enough, just make sure you come from the southbound side of 441 to make it easier to turn into the parking lot. When we walked in, three other tables were being served by the two servers (who did a great job). We chose our own table and were quickly approached with menus and our drink orders were taken. I ordered a materva and it appeared that all of their other soft drinks were also in cans (no fountains) - coke products were available as well as jupina, inca kola, hatuey malta, and other beers and juices. I also noted their awesome sounding batido flavors. The food was great - very flavorful and plentiful. We ordered mariquitas as an appetizer and got a huge plate of them with a mojo dipping sauce. I ordered the pan con lechon, which came with fries and was humongous and melts in your mouth. My brother ordered the chicharron de pollo, came with black beans and rice and maduros. The skin on the chicken was perfectly crisp and he enjoyed the carmelization of the plantains. My wife ordered the delicious vaca frita, which also came with beans, rice, and plantains. Reliable cafe with accessible parking in the back. It's not the best bistec de palomilla but it's tasty and convenient especially as a lunch special (comes with rice, beans and plantanos). Would also recommend the grilled pork chop which is well seasoned and not tough. read more

They were half thrown together with the bread and cheese sticking to the container and meat falling out, the pork was dry & crispy, barely a dab of mustard and they forgot our pickles. On BOTH sandwiches. They definitely didn't care about the presentation of their food or getting our order correct. I've passed the Black Beans Cafe many times, and have thought that it looked "interesting". I like little "hole in the wall", out of the way places. So, tonight, we decided to give it a try. VERY good. We'll be back. We had their plantain chips, which were fresh, very thin, and appeared to be home-made. They were great, with a sauce I think was mojo. We had a bowl of their fish soup, with rice, potato, carrot, and cilantro, which was delicious. Then, I had a fish filet (Swie fish), grilled, with plantains, rice, and black beans. The others had oxtail and lemon chicken, all with rice, beans, and plantains. Everything was delicious. Generous portions, not terribly expensive. Cuban coffee and regular AND coconut flan at the end. Also delicious. AND, importantly, both servers we dealt with gave prompt, good service, with smiles, answered our questions, and were great. The papa was the best I've ever had. I've had plenty!! Hubby had the Steak Milanese, I had the Chicken Milanese. I asked for no ham on my chicken. Both meats were tender and juicy inside the breading. Both had crunch on the sides of the Milanese which happens to be my favorite part of Milanese. Both entrees comes with rice which was fluffy and perfectly cooked, black beans that is beautiful seasoned & maduros (sweet plantains). It's a lot of food. I have enough for lunch tomorrow. We ended our meal with a delicious colada, of course. YUM!!! This was a perfect place to stop for a delicious Cuban lunch after arriving from our week long cruise. It's only 11 miles from Port Everglades. Don't let the storefront's appearance put you off. In this case, the curb appeal hardly represents the wonderful dining experience inside. I would have never found this place or thought to have stepped in it of it weren't for Yelp. The service was excellent though it could have been faster but it only looked like they had 2 girls on staff and 1 was on her break. The $7.50 half pitcher of Sangria is a real thing! And it was regular dinner hours! Though, I don't think there was much alcohol in it- if any at all, but it tasted delicious. The food was great, we ordered the churrasca and the grilled pork chops, along with the boiled yuca. We devoured everything on our plates. I have been to Black Bean Café many times, usually it early lunch and by myself. The space is nothing to write home about but comfortable. I usually get the lunch specials, today was no exception. The almost immediately server bread, always good. I got the pork steak with a double salad for my side. The side salad was just ok nothing special. The pork steak was good would order again but with different sides The black beans and rice, plantains are always good. Don't recall everything I have had but the 1/2 chicken is a 50% thing sometimes good, some times dry. The things that I have enjoyed todays pork steak, Vaca Frita, grilled steak, pork chunks, chicken chunks(most of the time), chicken steak and roast pork, of the things I remember. I usually get good service, I am there for an early lunch. In general a bang for you buck place. I will give a 4 start for the combination of a low price, good service and good food. read more

Great specials but don't go for breakfast , I got charged $28 for 2 half assed egg omelettes. For that go to P.F. Chang's or somewhere that makes sense to drop $28 for breakfast. Arroz with Frijoles, Chicken a la plancha and delicious empanadas... and it only gets better Came here after searching for a good ol moms and pop place on my way home and I have to say is WOW! So glad I found this place. The kddos ordered chicken strips with french fries, I ordered they chicken with rice, beans, and one empanada to try and it seriously almost made me move next door. Their food was AMAZING! To top it off, I had a Cuban Cafecito and a flan to share with my kids since I am not that much of a sweets person and boy was it all delicious.. Starbucks, looks like you have competition going on! The restaurant is a little hidden from all the construction but that still did not prevent me from finding Black beans Cafe. The service.. is everything you expect, almost felt like I was in the Havana (which btw I have never been). Our servers were so sweet and kind, not to mention patient since Cuban food isn't my food of origin and we lack good ones in my hometown in Houston (yes, believe it or not). These people are racist, I came here and they don't speak any English. Ok no issue I explained to the lady my food has the taste of cleaning products. She got mad and told me I still have to pay. She started taking my food aggressively and literally started cleaning and spraying cleaning products over me and my drink. I was so in shock I couldn't believe it, I told her don't do that she said she'll call the police. I was so upset because I couldn't believe this happened. These people need new waitresses they are nasty to blacks will have you waiting and serve literally everyone that is of their color and not sure you until their ready. Went to this place because I wanted breakfast that is fresh and homemade, as opposed to going to McDonald's. Took forever to get breakfast, so I thought it would be stellar. I was wrong. I paid about 30 bucks for two simple breakfast meals and an order of French toast. The French toast was 3 parhetic soggy pieces of Cuban bread dipped in egg with about nothing else. The breakfast plate had two tiny pieces of bacon and instead of at least homemade hot cakes, they had two pieces of premade pancakes like you buy frozen at the store. The girl attending me didn't even put salt, pepper or syrup in the bag she so adamantly tied closed. She made me a 'cafe con leche', but instead gave me a coffee with frothed milk, leaving the cup half empty once the froth settled. It wasn't the worst experience, but for a Cuban dive in Miami area that supposedly has great reviews, this place fell flat for me. Very disappointed! read more

In town for a few days of diving and a friend who lives in Hollywood recommend The Black Bean Cafe over the chain restaurant Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine. Not a fancy space but the friendly service and delicious food are worth stopping in for a bite. I ordered their oxtail, black beans, plantains, and rice. The oxtail meat was full of flavor and fell off the bone with little effort from me. The black beans are seasoned so well that the 3 yr old in our party finished an entire bowl. Another in the party raved about his liver and onion entree while his wife enjoyed the lemon chicken entree. Portion sizes are generous so expect leftovers. This place is a complete disappointment. I ordered the Camarones Enchilados (shrimp creole) and received what tasted like shrimp in canned spaghetti sauce. I tried to eat it because I didn't want to complain, but the taste was awful. I told the waitress that my plate did not taste like Camarones Enchilados and her response was that they weren't Camarones Enchilados, they were Camarones en Salsa (shrimp in sauce). I told her that's not what the menu says and she said the menu was wrong...what?? So I told her I'd like to order something else and she brought me the menu. I ordered the Carne Asada and she said that I would still be charged for the original sides from the shrimp dish because there was nothing wrong with them. I told her to forget the order, paid for the rest of the tab and left. Terrible service and experience. Definitely won't be returning. read more

I live in Miami. There is a restaurant like this on practically every corner. With that being said, I went to have dinner with my uncles and an aunt in Hollywood. One of my uncles lives in South Carolina (by way of NYC). He likes his latin food... My local uncle recommended the Black Bean Cafe. I wasn't thrilled because to be quite honest, Cuban food bores me. Not that it isn't good. It is. I like it. A lot. I'm just bored. It's like the days when you were too poor to afford anything but ham & cheese sandwiches or McDonalds Dollar Menu. After a while, your gag reflex kicks in when you see those golden arches or smell ham wafting in your direction. But it's actually been a while since I've had Cuban fare... Off we went. It's a tiny cafeteria style restaurant. It's got a few tables & booths. Definitely has a family-owned feel. No frills. Usually, this means the food should be good. I ordered the Churrasco medium rare with a side of chimichurri. (Can't go wrong with a nice steak, right?) The steak came perfectly cooked. Juicy & delicious! It came with white rice, *Surprise!* black beans and maduros. The cuban staples. They did not disappoint. My local uncle ordered the Bistec a la Milanesa with the same sides. (It's Cuban food here, people. Not a whole lot of variety.) My aunt had the exact same thing. My other uncle ordered the Ropa Vieja. He cracked up. He called it the "Old Clothes" which, for those of you that don't know, is the literal translation for this dish. We are Puerto Rican and although my uncle & I have been living in South Florida long enough to be accustomed to the names of Cuban dishes, Uncle Raymond was clueless and amused. He enjoyed his dish (also with the same sides). We were much too stuffed after this meal to even consider dessert. But all in all, the Black Bean is A-OK in my book! Cuban sandwich, ropa vieja, all really really good. Also very HONEST!! . My daughter left her kiddie purse in the restaurant. We didn't know she put her money in there . As a Cuban who has moved out of Dade county, I can't begin to tell you how much I miss my abuelita's food. To us, food is a very important part of life, and we celebrate it with joy. I took my wife here today with cautious optimism because I had seen the reviews and wanted it to be good. This place reminds me of an old school hole in the wall with all of the pluses, none of the downsides. The quaint, minimalist charm won't be for everyone, but if all you're looking for is great food, this is where you need to be. Traditionally, Cuban places I've been to, tend to have service that is... inattentive to say the least. This place has above average service, but I MAY be looking at this with a low standard for Cuban spots. Any way you look at, the service is great, it's just not over-solicitous. Regardless the reason you go to a restaurant is for the food. The food here is AMAZING. It has everything you would expect from a Cuban spot. The food is hearty and fresh. Big, beautiful, juicy limes accent the food perfectly. The mojo is sublime, it's unlike anything I've ever tasted. It's classic enough to be recognized as mojo, but there's also something I can't put my finger on that separates it as new and innovative. You won't regret ordering anything on the menu, and trust me I ordered a bunch! And this needs to be said: as its been echoed previously by countless others, the prices are RIDICULOUSLY reasonable! Had to come down to FL for a family emergency, but a girl still has to eat. Since I was in South Florida, I expected to get some fantastic Cuban food and I was not disappointed. I went with Yelpers choice for one of the best places and The Black Beans Café did not disappoint. I ordered Ropa Vejia with black beans and rice. The dish was fantastic. Super moist meat and the flavors were so on point. Very much enjoyed this and it might be better than my mom's (gasp)! The black beans had that wonderful deep, garlic soupy flavor that I crave sometimes. I also took the advice of several Yelpers reviews and got the fresh made lemonade. Oh yes. Just barely tart and barely sweet. It was perfect and very thirst quenching. Yum! I hope to make it back there some time. So delish! read more
