We came in late on a rainy full-out monsoon Saturday night when a friend of my family was supposed to be performing, however, someone died that day and the kitchen was closed. The bar was open, however, and the bartender told us they were only open for drinks because of a death in the family. But she made up for it and gave us our drinks on the house. I would have liked to have eaten there - the menu looked pretty tantalizing for Irish pub food. It's located in the heart of a strip mall, but there's decent parking and access to the highway from there. I'd go back to check out other entertainment. My family and I went for lunch on a Sunday. We walked in behind, and sat next to, a different family. The waitress took ours and the neighbor family's drink orders quickly, and the drinks arrived equally quickly. That's where the good service ended though. The waitress took the food order of the neighbor family right after the drinks came, but then left us without taking our order for a full 25 minutes after drinks came. The waitress never even came back to our area, so I couldn't flag her down. I got frustrated so I got up and hunted her down, which finally resulted in our order being taken. Our food came about 20 minutes later - we'd been there for about 55 minutes before we even got our food. My mother's meal was not correct - she ordered huevos rancheros but got chilaquiles....with lots of cold lettuce, which made her dish barely lukewarm. My toast was cold. And the butter was rock solid cold, so I couldn't spread it. I waited to be checked on by the waitress so my mom could get the right food and I could get some warm toast that might melt the butter, but no luck. The waitress didn't come back until I asked the busboy to send the manager over 15 minutes after we received our food. By that time, my mom had given up and just ate what she was served and I wanted to just leave. Despite this, the food was delicious. The food being delicious is the reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 1. Because that was really, supremely, awful service. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. When we first came into the restaurant, we were immediately seated however there was a very long wait before we were served. Parties around us were getting immediate service whereas myself and my guests had to wait almost 45 minutes for a cup of soup and waters. My guest Verda Long paid for our bill timely however it should never take 45 minutes to be seen, seated, and only receive a cup of soup without having our entire orders taken. Upon receiving our soup, my entire party, including myself, were very displeased with how cold the soup was. 30 minutes after our soup was provided the waitstaff never came back and I was not going to wait any longer to be served. This type of service is unacceptable in any food services. Again, would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for any reason. read more

I've been coming here from the day they opened probably won't be back. I don't know if they have new owners or new management but whichever they have they suck. Came in as normal to have some food and a few drinks and after watching them walk by me for 20 minutes decided that was enough. They went to every table but ours. Took drink orders, food orders everything. I could see one of the servers having a hard time at the POS machine like it was her first day. The table next to ours that came in after we did got drinks from some guy who must be a new manager or owner walked right by our table. Then the server went there to have a nice long chat. Came here yesterday at my mom's suggestion. It's a small place, and you have to walk through the bar to get to a table where you don't have to sit on a high stool. Those tables are in an area where there are TVs everywhere, all on sports, no sound, no captions, so you can't tell what's going on on the TVs, so I don't understand why they're on. This is also where the video slot machines are; they're separated from the tables, but it's impossible to ignore that they're there. And the music is too loud. The menu is limited, but we both found something we liked. Mom had the steak salad, I had the brisket sandwich with fries. Both meals were terrific, the service was good. If not for what I mentioned in the first paragraph, I'd give this place 5 stars. read more

EEEK....I understand that this place just opened a mere 2 weeks ago, and I realize that there may be some bugs that need to be worked out, but this is really inexcusable..... My partner heard from friend of his who shared a news post, and I was not impressed at all! First of all it took some time for our waitress (Sue) to come to our table and greet us. Okay this will get you .5 stars off. Next, we decide that we would like to order the Bavarian Pretzel app. Ooops, we were informed that they were out. OK, for this you get another .5 stars taken off, but you will get an overall pass. For dinner my partner selected the house burger, which he ordered medium, along with house made chips. He said that it was pretty good. I was debating between the pasta special, with shrimp and asparagus, and the Amish baked chicken, which came with garlic mashed, coleslaw, and seasonal veg. The chicken was so dry, it tasted like eating sandpaper, the mashed were lumpy, the coleslaw was dry, and surprise....there were no seasonal veggies. Also to come with the meal, is a choice of soup or salad, I chose the salad. She did not know all of the dressings they offered, and the waitress forgot to bring the salad, either before or during the entree, blaming the kitchen for not offering it up. I am sorry, you should remember what your table orders, period!! I told Sue that I was not happy with the chicken due to it's dryness, and she said she was thankful that I told her, and that she was going to tell the manager. I am sure she did, but the manager did not come out and apologize, and better yet, the portion of my meal was not comped. If you are a brand new establishment, and you want to build a relationship with your patrons, if there is an issue, you should take care of your patrons, without question! Drinks, I stayed with water, while my partner had Not Your Father's Root beer, a good selection. When we were finally greeted, we were both given large waters, but upon receiving another water, I was given a small water, to which Sue said with chagrin, "Oh, I guess I should have brought you a large water." Really??? Also, as we were leaving, a table behind us wanted some Pinot Noir, guess what.......THEY WERE OUT OF THAT TOO!!!! Apparently this place does not know how to order during their grand opening month, they opened February 1st. Sue, while pleasant, seemed to be a little unsure of herself. This was unsettling in my opinion. In closing, again, I realize this is a new restaurant, and I wish them well, but we will not be back, and if they do not take heed of any negative reviews they may receive, The Black Oak may be doomed from the start. read more

Incredible, delectable food! This is a local pub within walking distance of our home. It is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. We (wife and I)loved it so much we convinced several friends and neighbors to patronize it, and they were pleased with our recommendation. I have yet to order a dish I did not like, and I've been here at least a dozen times already. On the weekends they serve breakfast! The staff is sometimes very friendly and attentive, and sometimes a bit distant and inattentive. One of the managers took the time to greet us and spend some time at the table, a nice personal touch. We found a diverse crowd on occasion, with a mixed demographic, which is appealing to us. We asked several different questions about beer (this being a bar and all) and she kept running back and forth to ask the bartender questions until we just asked to speak to the bartender.... he was just as clueless as her. Finally we resorted to just asking for the can/bottle so we could see the details. The appetizers were just OK - We had the nachos, cheese curds, steak tacos and the buffalo chicken sliders. The lemon shrimp pasta was overly lemony and seasonal vegetables it was supposed to include was at best a quarter of a small asparagus... way over priced for what you get.
