My husband and I regularly frequented the Black Oak for their breakfast entrees that are now served all day. We love the Chilaquiles! This review is not about the food or service, but rather the new manager. We wanted to support one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood so we went in late yesterday morning for the second time since the quarantine ended and we witnessed yet, again, the new manager yelling at the waitstaff. The behavior was unbecoming of a manager and quite frankly made my husband and I, who are both managers, uncomfortable. Not to mention this is the second time we experienced this noticeably unstable behavior from this man. We had already ordered our drinks but hadn't yet had a chance to order our food, so we paid the bill and left. We were disappointed but unwilling to support the establishment further, after that. We went on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm and the service was terrible unless you wanted to drink. The waitress can three time when we waited 20 minutes for our appetizer and then she took our order another 25 minutes for two hamburgers neither the way we ordered and cold French fries. Friends have gone and liked the place it ashamed because we like to patronize local places but I was not impressed and doubt I venture in again. read more

Love the burgers! Go on a specials night and take advantage of the deals. Still gotta try the breakfast...heard it's great. Daughter is gluten free. Burgers have gluten free bun options and she loves it, however, was told one visit that they could make wings gluten free. Does this restaurant have a few kinks to work out? I ask you with the exception of a Michelin 5 star restaurant every single 1 has some kinda hiccups to work itself out in the infant years of their baby. I loved our bartenders and you dont realize how big it is bc its in the stripmall. Really convenient for people looking for somewhere close to catch a meal near the hospitals. This restaurant is ridiculous. The hours is from 7 am till 2 am according to their website. We arrived at 7:40 am for breakfast. The lady behind the bar told us their kitchen wouldn't open till 8:30 am after seeing us standing and waiting there for quite some time. I've been to Black Oak twice now. The first time was Super Bowl Sunday. There was a decent crowd, food was great, service was good but it was very loud with all the TV's. I assumed the noise level was due to the Super Bowl. Two weeks later I am back and it is still very noisy, too noisy to have a conversation with people at your table. I would love the TV's if I were sitting at the bar by myself, however if you are sitting at a table you most likely want to converse. If they end up expanding (which I hope they do because the food is great) I pray for no TV's. read more

Was in the mood to try something new and came across this place. I know the little strip mall area well and when I pulled into the parking lot, my wife looked at me like I was taking her to get pizza at the slice factory(which she is not a fan of). We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, patrons and food! I had the steak sandwich and it was delicious! Had lunch here today for the second time, and wanted to compliment the food and service. We were a group of 5 "senior" ladies, who can sometimes be a little (ok, a lot) picky. There was a draft where we originally seated, so our server was very gracious when we wanted to move. We each ordered something different... i had the fish tacos, which were delicious and generously portioned for the $9.95 price. Other dishes we enjoyed included the "black and bleu" salad, the sliders mix of 3 different beefs, and the blackened tilapia wrap (all sandwiches can be ordered as wraps). Stopped here for drinks after work on Friday. It was pretty crowded for 3pm. Our server Greg was great...fast and outgoing. They have a decent beer selection, lots of whisky, and they also had interesting specials for lent. We had the Bavarian pretzel. You could spilt it, but I was starving and had no problem eating the entire thing. It was a very soft version of the soft pretzel and it came with marinara and cheese-- both were delicious. The breakfast menu looked good, so I will be going back! A nice addition to the neighborhood. My only complaint is that the menu is really hard to read because the ink faded or printed poorly. read more

Went here with the hubby on a Tuesday night and really loved it. Great service, friendly atmosphere, and really nicely designed restaurant. For starters, we tried the Calamari appetizer which was delicious. My husband had the Jalapeño Bacon Cheddar Chicken sandwich and I tried the Monster of the Midway burger. Both were delicious! When first opened everything was good. Now they are starting to skimp. Ordered a Cobb salad loaded with lettuce, hardly any of the other ingredients: tomatoes ,bacon, avocado. Recently ordered a plain cheese burger with an extra piece of cheese. It came out late without extra piece of cheese and had aioli on it. The fries were uncooked. I ordered the brisket hash,didn't come out as stated in the menu: No burnt ends just a few tiny slices of brisket,hardly a brisket hash. The meal still tasted good. Horrible experience. We came in and sat for about 10 min before we had to flag down a busser to even get menus. We looked around and other tables were clearly irritated and we saw only one single bartender running the whole place which was crowded from bar to tables all over. After waiting another 10 minutes we started to get ready to just leave. The worst part about all of this is the "manager" was standing in plain view by the kitchen and was doing absolutely nothing to help this poor girl. We watched another table have to flag down the server to get their food which was clearly dying in the open window visible to customers. The whole time the manager stood beside and watched food sit there while he joked around with the kitchen staff. As my boyfriend approached him to explain why we were leaving and how he needed to do a better job at helping the restaurant which was clearly not doing well, he proceeded to tell him we could leave and get out. So unprofessional. As someone who's been in the industry for 15 years and is a manager myself I would never watch my staff go under as I sat by and watched, and I would also never treat customers in that manner. Have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, on different days. All the meals have been very good, quite large portions so we sometimes split meals. Drinks and draft beer and stout all great. Friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. It is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. read more

Went last night with the wife solid food and service. My wife loved her cheeseburger, she was calling her mom after dinner that she needed to try it. She is gluten free and the gluten free bun was pretty standard, nothing great. She also loved the hand cut potato chips. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and blackened tilapia sandwich. The gumbo was more of a chicken and rice soup, but the sandwich was very good. The fish was cooked well and the sweet cole slaw was very tasty. I wish I could remember the waitresses name because she was sweet yet competent. All in all, pretty good. read more

As you walk in, they have tables with high seats and as you get near the middle you see all the tables that have low comfortable chairs. Very disappointed. Service was EXTREMELY slow. After waiting more than 30 minutes, the waitress comes and tells us that they gave our appetizer to another table. When our food was finally delivered (after 40 minutes) they gave my friend her steak salad that she ordered medium and it was rare and gave me my steak sandwich which I ordered medium rare and it was well done.
