Decided to give The Block a try because I saw they had Zaatar on the menu and had seen Guy Fieri try it on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food Network show). While it was a unique experience, I might have gone in with too high of expectations based off of how much Guy enjoyed the dish but it didn't exactly 'wow' me as I was hoping. Tried two of the different Manaeesh (thin crust Mediterranean flat breads): the Lahm Bi Ajin (ground beef, onion, parsley) and Zaatar (dry thyme, sesame, olive oil). Both were fairly cheap for the size, $4.99 and $3.50 respectively, and was plenty of food for one person together. I personally enjoyed the Zaatar more even without any meat because it had better flavor and texture, while the Lahm Bi Ajin had a strong gamey taste and got pretty soggy. I recommend asking them to leave both in the oven extra if you're looking for that crispy crust you get from wood-fire oven pizza. This place is for sure interesting and very different from anything else in the area. Giving it 3 stars because I really have nothing else to compare it to. Will be back to give it another try and try a few other dishes. read more

I ordered the Turkish pide with kafta (ground beef) and it was pretty good. Location is really good with plenty of parking. They also have a bakery right next to it. The menu has an different assortment of items to try if you are new to Turkish/ Mediterranean food. Will definitely come back to try more stuff. read more

They food is nice when everything is in stock which for some reason is a common occurrence. I've had the experience of ordering online, then getting a call saying what I wanted was not available (why couldn't the update it online?). On top of that, they could not cancel my order. The girl told me that I had to call ChowNow to cancel (can take up to 72 hours to get your refund btw). I've had similar situations with other establishments, and they were able to cancel my order directly. I recommend The Block should change their online ordering platform. read more

Their zaatar manouche tastes like tap water. Was talking about it to a friend and before I could even say anything my friend goes "Yeah their food tastes like straight up dirty tap water." They have a nice selection of foods, and much of it is delicious, but quality wise it's just not there. The soujouk is very low quality. Plus, they are the same foods from next door (sir sandwich) then it's even worse. Because the food quality there has always been the lowest of the low. So disappointing because we could really use a good business like this in the area. Great Arabic butcher and counter/deli. Ordered takeout: kafta kebab with rice and fatoush, tabouleh, falafel, and some assorted mezza: hummus, grape leaves and olives. The kebab was awesome, not too salty, great meat quality which you can expect from a butcher, with a nice yogurt sauce on the side, and the fatoush was clean and bright tasting. Falafel was crisp and fresh. For the deli fare, hummus was good, grape leaves were pretty good, olives were excellent and super cheap ($3.99/lb!). i visited the place 3-4 times. Food is tasty, menu options are good, prices are affordable. But....The place is little dirty, service is poor. I wish workers speak english( it took me some time to ask a lady for a lemon and hot water and she ended up bringing me cold water and one piece of lemon on her hand not a plate or at least on Napkin!!!) :( my suggestion to the business owner to give more instruction to the workers on hygienia , changing the gloves frequently (i noticed she was cleaning the counter , took our order and charged and gave a change, and right after it she started doing pide with the same gloves). The service is extremely slow even when very few people are there. The meat pies are really not good and not authentic it's almost imitation which looks good but tastes just so bland. I tried to order a pizza. They have a wood fire oven and were cooking flatbreads in it. I was told no, they don't do pizza. It is on the menu behind the counter, but no. So I ordered a plain cheese steak and fries and a drink combo. $15.99. Ok I'm here I'll go for it. 20 min later I'm the only person still here and I ask about my food, I'm told 10 min. I asked if it had even been started yet, and was told no, please wait. 20 min later I'm handed a bag with my food and told to grab a drink from the cooler, a 12oz coke. $16 meal with a can of coke. When I started to see advertisements for The Block I was so excited and had the highest of expectations especially because the owners who opened it are the same ones that own Tarbouch in Arlington - which has the BEST AUTHENTIC ARABIC FOOD EVER. My first impression of their menu was "OMG" because of the variety offered i could've easily ordered one of everything but I had to practice self-control. Anyways, it didn't disappoint! I tried an array of their homemade "Manaeesh" (thin crust Mediterranean oven baked flat bread) and they were freshly baked and the dough was perfect, not too thin not to thick. The ingredients all complimented one another and left me wanting more...so naturally I took some home and had a midnight snack that was followed by morning breakfast. DELICIOUS! The biggest bonus of all are the shelves on the side of their store stocked with some Mediterranean groceries. So not only did i fill my stomach but i hit two birds with one stone and was saved an extra trip to Alexandria for some home goods. Ugh. Unhygienic. Ordered a pizza here during a first time visit and never again. Workers were not wearing masks the entire time, they would take them on and off repeatedly. Then right as my pizza was done, the guy boxing my pizza kept getting the corner of his jacket caught on my pizza as he was trying to reach up and down trying to do something. I was horrified. I placed an order online for a work event. When I arrived to pick-up the order is where the trouble started. No one greeted me and when I said I was picking up an order,I was told they didn't have any orders. Then, when I mentioned I placed the order online two days ago, they said they did have the order, however it was for only three items rather than the seven that I ordered. What they had on their receipt was very different from what my email confirmation said. When I asked about the missing Cheese Rolls, I was told they don't make cheese rolls. Then why are they on the menu and why can you order them? I waited while they made other items to make up for what was missing, which I appreciated but took an additional 10 minutes. When I got back to the office, I found that I was still missing items. I guess they forgot to add them to the bag? As for the food, the Dip Sampler was in a non-divided container so all the three dips blended into one. It did not look appealing. On the bright side, the food was quite good. It's not worth the trouble, though, and I won't be back. As a side note, while I was waiting I noticed a chalkboard menu listing different types of meat and price per pound.
