I want to start off by saying that after years of traveling to Moab and trying many of the restaurants, I hadn't found a go-to place to eat.... UNTIL NOW. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars (a perfect) is due to the time it takes for them to attend you. What they lack there, they do make up in cooking time, their friendly staff and a nice sign being upfront about them being understaffed. I'd give them 4.5 stars if I could. With that said. MUST GETS: - GUMBO, ate one there and took one to go. - Hush puppies, delicious! - Catfish fillet, awesome! - Cheesy potatoes, delicious! - Cole slaw, meh, but my wife liked it because idly felt healthier, not as sweet as others - Corn bread, good! - The smoked turkey was great and the brisket was good. - The LEMONADE, to die for :) especially in Moab summer weather. We really wanted to enjoy this place, and had been looking forward to it all day. I feel bad writing this review... just wanted to warn others and maybe get the owner to pay more attention to quality. The food was just awful. Burnt ends were served cold and tasted like a bag gas station beef jerky. Sausage was inedible. Fries were served cold and soggy and drenched in salt. Burgers were completely dried out. Cole slaw was just wrong, hard to put my finger on it, but no. The lettuce in the salads was wilted. By 6:30pm when we sat down, they were out of ribs, brisket, and tri-tip, which is kind of a problem if you're a bbq joint. The server seemed confused and annoyed with us, and we are 100% not rude or pushy tourist types, plus we spent $150 plus tip. read more

Just when you are reaching a Food plateau something better comes along. I mean, if you come to Moab, UT and don't go to the Arches National Park, it's ok. But if you come to Moab, UT and don't eat at The Blu Pig, you will regret it!!! Everyday we drive by and the parking is not full (2:00pmish), but today we were hungry! We just pulled in and took a chance. The waitress was very warm and welcoming. We ordered the BBQ Combo. Let me just say that I've eaten plenty of BBQ in my life. Today I entered a higher level of BBQ world! The restaurant was nice and not busy. I guess folks were waiting for later in the evening since they have live music. The briquettes were just beyond normal, they were gooood! I almost took a sample of the brisket back to the Travel Trailer to get it preserved and mount it by a taxidermist so I could hang it over the window of my travel trailer and cherish it the rest of my life! Sadly I was so hungry that by the time I thought of doing that, I had finished it. The salad was crisp and fresh, the baked beans were so savory and balanced in spices. Service was excellent. We had a young man take our drink order until our waitress came over to make sure we had been able to order drinks. Drinks were delicious and brought out promptly. We were there on a Tuesday night and the place was packed! Seems like everyone from the nearby hotels went here for dinner. And of course like everyplace else in the post Covid world they were short staffed. A 40 minute wait for a table and the bar couldn't accommodate any more diners. We decided to get our meal "to go" and eat at the hotel. The host/waiter/do-it-all guy was awesome. Friendly, courteous and patient - even after getting yelled at by people wanting seats NOW, people fussing about the wait, and people ranting over the fact that they were out of brisket. This guy is a Saint and much nicer than I would ever be if I were wearing his shoes. Kudos to you young man, you are a rockstar. The food was amazing! Pulled pork, sausage, baked potato, Mac and cheese, fried okra, and baked beans all cooked to perfection. Oh, and the live music coming out of the bar while we waited was pretty darn awesome too! A group of 9 of us showed up here at The Blu Pig, on a Thursday night in January. It wasn't busy at all took a minute for them to arrange tables to seat us all but it was quick. Drink order right away, then ordered when the waitress brought our drinks. I ordered the tri tip samich with fries, the samich was amazing with some of their tangy BBQ sauce, the fries a little lackluster but over all a very good meal. Prices are your typical BBQ prices samiches not terrible, but you get into the meats it's gonna cost ya, but that's BBQ. The atmosphere is great and the blues music is perfect in the background. In the end we all had separate checks and they accommodated us perfectly. Will return on my stay while I'm working down there. read more

UPDATE: another quick trip to Moab and a stop at our favorite bbq place. We had just endured a harrowing drive from SLC in a near-whiteout and snow-packed roads, and we were starving. The restaurant side was dead and we stood there for several minutes before noticing the bar side and went in over there. There was a guy playing live music and we were immediately seated and helped. We shared a 2 meat plate (smoked turkey and brisket) with slaw and fries. It was amazing, and not just because we were ravenous. That smoked turkey is absolutely fabulous, and the brisket was tender and flavorful. The only slight knock was that the hand cut fries weren't perfect - a little stringy and seemed like they had only been fried once instead of blanched and then fried. But it was a pretty perfect meal on a night when we really needed it. We love the Blu Pig! read more

The service was excellent. The food outstanding with a good presentation. Even the beer selection is top notch. There is a KC & Texas sauces available. The food and drinks are delivered quickly. My only complaint is the automatic tip selection which includes the tax. In other words, the tip selection includes money going to the state. There is a custom tip selection which you have to select to only leave a tip on the restaurant charge. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Stopped in for a little lunch after driving the Geyser Pass Trail. To my surprise this is a Blues music/Bar B Q spot. Sara got the pulled pork and sweet potato fries and I got the catfish po boy with baked beans. The food was great and the atmosphere was great too. Never made it to the front door. An employee coming to work almost ran into my car. Then he proceeded to tell me that "this is a parking lot sir!" I was parking my car to go into the place, so it was pretty obvious that this was a parking lot sir. He then ran after me on foot as I was driving away threatening to call the police. Excellent smoked prime rib. It smelled great, looked great and tasted great. We also had a combo plate with pulled pork, burnt tips and brisket. Pulled pork and burn tips were great. Full of flavor. However the brisket was a tad on the dry side. Sides were ok overall, some were great and some where not. Cheesy potatoes wasnt very cheesy. if anything, it looks liked chopped up potatoes stuck together with anything but cheese. I enjoyed the crunchy slaw that wasnt too heavy on the dressy. Fresh cut fries tasted great but were on the soggy side. Hush puppies were crisp on the outside, but dry on the inside. We also got some local brews. Drinks were great. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. After the server declared openly that they do not have ribs, briskets, and smoked tri-tip, I ordered pulled pork with baked beans and potato salad. The pulled pork was so unpleasant. Overly greasy, even the smell was not that great smoky BBQ aroma. The potato salad was smothered in mayonnaise ( kind of sauce). Only the baked beans were pleasant. The service was friendly. This place was delicious! I wanted a burger and the boyfriend wanted BBQ so we decided to check this place out. Again, I'm definitely not a BBQ gal but I'm glad we went here. I finished my entire burger in one sitting. We got an appetizer of the catfish and it was as good as it could be (catfish is disgusting to me) but my boyfriend finished the whole thing. Finding something decent to eat in Moab on a Thursday night in December was harder than finding an honest used car salesman. Moab is not s foody town. It became so frustrating, we ended up at City Market looking for something okay to pick up, but everything in there looked disgusting. We literally drove up and down Main Street, trying to find something that served food we could keep down. At 8:00, it was seemingly impossible. Out of desperation, we pulled into The Blu Pig. I liked the name. The bar was dark. the entertainer was singing Neil Young, and they served something called "Blackened Bits." That's a pretty good start. However, it took about five minutes to be reminded I was back in Utah. My $12.00 cocktail tasted like water. I forgot about the Utah pour. Why order decent booze when you get one swallow! I felt ripped off after spending a week in Colorado and New Mexico. It's not the restaurant's fault, but the Stasi like liquor laws of Utah. The food was good, Yet, we left depressed, knowing we were returning to Salt Lake City, the theocracy, and celebrated mediocrity. I could cry, but we had a wonderful holiday in Santa Fe. read more

Nothing to complain about here. Our server, April, made sure we had everything we needed. It was pretty packed when we came in just after lunch hour, but our food came out pretty quickly. The pulled pork sandwiches had just enough solid pieces of meat and a fair amount of sauce, although we did add more. I had mine on a bun (bottom only) with cole slaw which I was very crunchy and added a great dimension to the pork. The beans...oh, the beans! Delish!! I was craving some good baked beans and these delivered. My husband had the same...but no bun and with a cornbread muffin (lucky him) and some grainy, yet tasty, cinnamon butter. All good. For dessert we had one of the best fresh hot peach cobblers we've ever had. No ice cream, but whipped cream, and luscious dollops of whatever the topping of cobbler is made from. Hot peaches underneath, perfectly cooked...very reminiscent of my mother in law's homemade cobbler. YUM!! So happy we stopped here for a our 'last meal in Moab'. I was looking forward to trying the local Moab BBQ and left quite disappointed. When we first walked in we were greeted with a promising bbq smoky smell! We sat on the bar side which had a pretty good atmosphere and there was live music from a guy and his guitar playing folk music. Our experience started out quite promising. Ordered a local beer and that was probably the best part. When we received our food it was not good at all. I ordered 12 "jumbo" wings with the Garlic Buffalo sauce. The wings were standard size and were very dry! They had been over smoked and overcooked. The sauce was quite lacking as well and was mainly in the bottom of the basket. My wife ordered the Blu's Beefy Texan. She said the onion ring on the burger was probably the best part of her meal. The burger was overcooked and dry and the "Brisket" tasted to me like roast. Guessing it was a cut from the point if it was actually brisket but we could not discern any evidence of being smoked or and any rub/seasoning. The sweet potato fries were rubbery and unappealing. I did try the 2 sauces on the table and they were equally bad. Not sure if this was a standard example of their food but we were not pleased. It was edible but not at all enjoyable. For what we got it was overpriced but that was to be expected for a high tourist area. This place has such potential (location, atmosphere, etc) but they really need to work on quality control. Our waitress was very pleasant and we could not fault her for the food quality. I do however wish she would have asked how everything was because I was more than ready to provide feedback. We were staying at the hotel behind the Blu Pig so we decided to check it out. My 14 year old son loves jazz/blues music and was excited to check out the live band. He was bummed to find that the music was in the 21 and older room so he couldn't listen to them. But we were able to enjoy a great meal in the restaurant. Our server, Melena, was fantastic-she had the right mix of humor and attentiveness. We shared a large combo tray that allowed us to try a variety of meats and sides. This was the perfect way for us to give everything a try. We will be back. Jordan hopes the restaurant will still offer live music in 7 years when he can go in the bar area. read more

Come for the ribs, stay for Covid. I made the mistake of coming here for a late-lunch one weekend. First, the service was painfully slow, but not enough to get one star. The meat was average...nothing worth going out of your way over. What earned this restaurant the one-star distinction was how poorly they enforced the social distancing and, in particular, the mask protocols that are legally required by the State of Utah. In the 45 minutes or so I was there, I saw them allow at least six customers in who were not wearing masks, despite signs on the exterior clearly indicating masks are mandatory. In addition, one server I saw did not have a mask on properly and I saw someone come out of the kitchen without a mask on at all. I also heard a dog bark multiple times during the time I was there, and it sounded pretty clear that it was coming from inside the restaurant. Overall, this place was pretty disgusting and in total violation of multiple state health laws. I saw someone else posted a similar complaint recently and received a ridiculous response from the manager. Talk about not taking accountability for your staff. I should mention that I waited a couple of weeks to post this until I had time to report them to the state health department. read more

Wow! Ordered for take-out - great experience!!! We ordered the burnt ends meal AND the pick three bbq combo. We asked for substitutions and they did it with no problem at all! For example, we asked for no rice in the gumbo, extra salad in place of the cornbread... and they did it with no issue! So easy to order from them. Service was top notch!!! Amazing!! The person who took the order over the phone and then handed our order so super nice. She was running the whole place, seating everyone, taking orders, etc... and she was rock in' it. Besides that, the food was frikken great. I've had bbq from all ends of California and also had Texas bbq... but this was one of the best for sure. Idk if I was just extremely hungry OR the food just tasted delicious because of the great service, but whatever it was DANGGGGG!!! Yum!!!! They had everything prepared in less than 20 min, too. Our family of 3 was sat right behind the hostess stand...but were passed by 4 staff members multiple times over 25 minutes before our drink orders were taken. Multiple other people were greeted and sat, but never spoken to so they left. Other families that had come in after us were served their food before our orders were taken. This was very disappointing as we all were getting hangry. The waitresses that served us let us know that the one that SAT us had taken a break and *forgotten* to let anyone know to help us. Once we did order our food came fast. It was standard bbq, the sauces are tasty. I highly recommend the cheesy potatoes if you do eat here. The environment is cool, I love the bluesy vibe. Literally.
