Everything stunk. The waiter was nice but really inexperienced. Dining area was freezing and so dark we needed to uses our cellphones to read the very expensive menu. The staff couldnt even figure out how to turn the over head fans off which were freezing us. The food was not good at all. The smoked tri tip must have been warmed up as it was only warm and like old shoe leather. Gumbo was like water, sauces were all watered down. Bad food, nice but inexperienced staff and really expensive. It is obviously owned by a non food person and no sign of ownership on site. Stopped here on our way through town. Even on a busy Friday night they got us in with very little wait. Bbq was amazing, my fiance loved the corn bread. Amazing family owned restaurant in Moab. I ordered the full rack of ribs wet and had gumbo and red beans and rice for my two sides. Both were full of meat and could stand alone as meals. The ribs were moist and very meaty. I was not able to finish half and took them home. They have a nice selection of whiskey and tequila and the beers are varied. The staff is wonderful! We've always had good service when we stop by. Food is okay. It's hit or miss. After being locals, and visiting a half dozen times, we can say the food is good--sometimes. We've never had amazing BBQ. It's been okay, but nothing over the top. Sometimes the meat has been tough and burnt, and the seasoning is just blah. I'm not sure if the kitchen staff has high turn over, or what. The Blu Pig has soooo much potential to be an amazing restaurant. I hope they figure out how to fix the inconsistencies and become the amazing BBQ restaurant that would fit right into Moab's dining experience. read more

I'm sorry, but I'm from Texas and have had much better barbecue. Of course i wasn't expecting it to be as good, because of course we are in Utah. The biggest problem i had was the portion sizes. Where i'm from, if you are ordering a 15 dollar place of food you are going to leave stuffed from head to toe and still have a doggy bag to take with you. I ordered a brisket sandwich. No No. No! Do not go here. Do not be tempted to stop at what is one of the first brightly lit, seemingly local, places as you come into Moab proper. To be fair I am not sure why my expectations were so high. I, for some reason, get excited at the potential of having legit BBQ in the Rocky Moutnain States (pssst.... it doesn't exist). Instead we got a couple of extremely overpriced plates ($15-20/ plate) of nothing special paired with some awesome $7.50 bottled beers - again this could have been us being dumb seeing as how Moab is essentially Touristville. In a relatively empty restaurant we were seated all the way in the back in a little corner two top where the surrounding walls looked like they had been cobbled together by a team of apprentice kindergarten construction workers. Of the three signature BBQ sauces there was not one that wasn't way too sweet and the hottest one wasn't spicy hot in the least. Our server/ the service was passable. If anything I just felt bad for the guy who basically had to talk up the BBQ as if it was real BBQ. Next time we're through Moab I will drive past the Blue Pig, shake my fist in disgust, and remember the time I was tricked into stopping there. Darn you, Blue Pig! read more

Nice place for some good bbq. Our server was very friendly. They have a wide variety of beer and even have suggestions of dinner pairings. The ribs were falling off the bone and the sauces they had were delicious. We ordered fries, cheesy potatoes, hush puppies and mashed potatoes for sides- all were delicious. Decent food, great service. This wasn't our first choice (we wanted to hit the Moab Brewery, but it was slammed at 4:45PM on a Monday) but it certainly worked as a back up. The pulled pork definitely didn't have very smoky / "bark" characteristics but it was very tender( we do a lot of pork shoulder at home on the smoker, so I feel like I have something to compare to!). Saturday night dinner, drinks, and the Utes vs Buffs football game. Sat in the bar. Not too many interested in the game. It was a struggle to get the game on and when it was I think there was only one other couple watching. Had a three meat sampler; turkey, brisket, and pulled pork. The turkey was the best, smoky and juicy. Brisket was meaty, just the right amount of fat. Pulled pork was decent. Meh. It was ok. Worth the price? I don't think so. I got the steak cut of the day, which was a 12oz sirloin. It was cooked just how I like and the seasonings and butter they used on top tasted good. The side of gumbo was a complete and total letdown. It was so bad that we sent it back and opted for the vegetable of the day, which was a formerly frozen piece of corn on the cob. My husband tried the Andouille sausage and 1/4 slab of ribs. Both were decent. Nothing spectatcular. His baked potato side was overcooked and part of the skin almost broke our teeth off. I would have tried the brisket, but they ran out. All in all, it asn't the worst meal I've had, but far, far away from the best. When one of us didn't care for the coleslaw and asked for a different side (fully anticipating on paying for it) our waitress brought out an alternate free of charge. She was really great! I only went here to meet up with some friends and have drinks-I did not order anything to eat. I ordered 3 beers, and 5 shots of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The bartender gave everyone their drinks-I paid for everyones-and she forgot mine! I will not ever come to this place again only because I felt the bartenders were not used to the bar being so busy-I came here during Easter Jeep Safari-and they gave myself and my 2 friends HUGE attitude, and we over heard the bartender being super rude to her co-workers because she was "busy." I felt the service sucked and the lady needs to work on her attitude problem. I suppose I should have taken down her name but I'll avoid the grief and never come here again. read more

Looking for a good place to eat and close to our hotel. The front desk clerk recommended the Blu Pig so we walked over to check it out. The interior is set in blue light and is really kinda cool. We were sat at a table quickly and our server Jared was awesome. The entire staff was constantly checking on our table and was very friendly. This bbq restaurant had so much potential but was disappointing. The staff was nice but the food was not good. The bbq sauce on every table was watered down, the fried ochre had no flavor and the pulled pork on the pulled pork burger was mushy. On a hike in Arches National Park, we even were told by a frequent visitor to not eat there but too late as we already did the night before. If the cooks can get the food right I would say this place could be successful in the small town of Moab. read more

Ate here two nights in a row and had a delicious meal and great service from Melena. Hubby had smoked prime rib both nights, I had brisket first night and smoked prime rib second night. Both were lightly smokey and delicious especially with the home made peppercorn sauce. Grandson had the "Big and nasty" on the first night which sounded better than it tasted. Second night had large portion of the brisket which he said was best he ever tasted and he's been to Texas for BBQ many times. Sides-coleslaw definitely tastes homemade, gumbo rich and meaty, sweet potato fries delicate and sweet, onion rings too much breading. Desserts great. Had both cobblers and smoked pecan pie. Pie had lots of nuts and not a lot of that gooey custard filling. Smoky flavor very subtle. Yum! Also dog friendly on the patio which is outfitted with water sprayers and fans. I cannot even begging to explain how delicious and wonderful this restaurant was! We sat on the bar side and Jarrod was our waiter. He was spot on checking in when needed but wasn't over-bearing. We had pulled pork (sandwich and non), tri-tip and brisket with sides of coleslaw, gumbo and hush puppies. Everything was seasoned and sauced wonderfully and cooked perfectly! We finished all of our food and were greatly satisfied. The music and ambiance of the restaurant/bar were perfect and went with the food well. Our waitress was awesome, and it was a cool little cafe. Meat was flavorful, and tender. BBQ sauces didn't do much for me...I'm spoiled by the spicy bbq we get in the SW perhaps. Salad was real lettuce, not wilted iceberg which was a nice balance for the heaviness of hig-heaven pulled pork. Baked sweet potatoes could have used a little more time in the oven. I'd give them 3.5 stars. They weren't bad, as many reviews suggested. I found the food to be good - not knock your socks off but certainly not bad. I ordered the pulled pork and had the hash brown casserole and fried okra for sides. I thought the pork was tasty and I had the option of adding 3 different sauces from the table if I wanted more. I thought the garlic bbq sauce was spot on. Hubby ordered the pulled pork and tri tip. He found the tri tip a little dry. He really enjoyed his gumbo and red beans and rice as sides. The bites I sampled of his were really good. I found the corn muffins, which all the reviews raved about, to be ok. They tasted like the jiffy muffin mix - not that it's bad, just not earth shattering. Service was quick and good. read more

The atmosphere was great but the food was over priced for what you got. My boyfriend had the beefy Texan and said it was good. I got the 2 meat plate with the turkey and tri tip. Pass on the tri tip it's bland and fatty. I also ordered the chardonnay carrots that has no taste very blah. But the sweet potato fries were awesome make sure to get them if you go! Was passing through Moab by accident and saw a sign for Blu Pig BBQ. Wanting to try something new, we pulled in. We were seated pretty fast and our waiter got our drink order and returned almost immediately. I ordered the Prime Rib Philly and the Big N Tasty fries with Tri Tip. The Philly was ok but the fries were excellent. Mostly because of the tri tip. My mom ordered the tri trip sandwich and I wish I would have as well. The waiter was very friendly and fast on the refills. If I go through Moab again for whatever reason, I will definitely go to the Blu Pig again. read more
