Here to watch Penn State play Saturday morning. This is Penn State game location. The breakfast burrito was excellent as was the breakfast sandwich. The tater tots were fantastic. I celebrated my 50th birthday there with several of my family and friends the bartender was amazing he took care of us very quickly. some of my party ate food as well in which they all said that they loved what they ordered. the very next day I went back because a friend potentially lost sunglasses there, I ended up having the barbecue burger with fries and wow it was excellent. read more

Bar food was actually pretty darn good! Had a side salad and the vegetable skewers. Very flavorful. The atmosphere was friendly and staff was as well. Good little vibe. LIVE MUSIC. The Blue Beet is set up with a small stage on the first floor near a stretch bar. On the second floor, you can see the stage and hear music from table seating. There's also a cash bar located on this floor. Last, there's a patio area for outdoor hang outs. The Blue Beet has great live music! On a night we were there, we heard from a great rock band. Awesome covers. My only critique is that they were really aggressive with wanting to get tips even specifying how much money they needed in tips to play certain songs. Awkward. Cover was $10 and drinks averaged around $7-8. I liked the place. The ground floor had a slightly divey feel but the music made for a fun night! read more

Steps away from the sand. You can eat here and then go for a nice walk on the beach after. They have a really good Sunday Funday $11.95 prime rib meal after 5pms. The prime rib is BIG and juicy with a huge mound of mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. For $11.95 it is a bang for the buck!! The Steamed Clams with the Cheesy Bread is surprisingly tasty for a place like this. The Sirloin Tip special is on Tuesdays for $6.95. It is a full meal with alot of tender meat and a mound of mashed potatoes with vegetables. Very good portion. For what you are getting and the portions, this place is a GOOD DEAL. They have specials every day, see below. My two favorites are the prime rib and the sirloin tips. Monday- New York Steak $10.95 Wednesday- Baby Back Ribs $10.95 Thursday- Pork Chops or Steak Sand. $10.95 Friday- Filet Tips $13.95 This place looks like a dive bar and pretty much is a bar. Came for the party and the drankkks! I love how it's a short walk from the pier so it can be quite romantic, with the wind blowing in your face and the smell of the ocean....but it can also be quite blood-pumping, with the scent of funnel cakes and donuts in the air, and sounds of laughter and shouting from all around. I got super reminiscent while walking here from the lot, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this place was in an alleyway, somewhat in the corner. There is a downstairs and upstairs area, but upstairs is where they have the rooftop patio, which is where I hung all night because inside was crowded and stuffy. There are plenty of seats, and enough room to stand around as well. I definitely would not try the food here since the drinks were meh as well. The bar is really understaffed so two bartenders were taking our orders all night-it took sometimes up to 20 minutes for some of us to get drinks. Ridiculo! Still, the vibes were decent and I think I would come back here if I'm in the area. read more

I have been to The Blue Beet several times mostly to watch a friend play guitar. I will not be coming back and will do my best to spread the word about this place. The "bouncer/waiter" is an over sensitive loser who tried his hardest to start a fight with me twice. Luckily for him I wasn't in the mood and didn't want to ruin the night for my friends. The service was horrible. We waited 20 minutes to order drinks and then the waitress dropped off menus and told us we had to order food. She didn't come back for another 30 minutes. I was planning on having dinner but after the drama and seeing how filthy dirty the restroom was I opted to starve. Newport is full of options and great places for food and entertainment. Do yourself a favor and skip over this mud puddle. read more

Went yesterday with a group of 6. I was the driver of the group so I only had two drinks in 2 hours at another bar. Coming in the door guy, who looked like he was high or on something, told me that it was dinner time (6pm on a Saturday) and that I was too intoxicated to get in. I came here with a bunch of relatives. My Aunt had made reservations for my Brother's birthday. My Brother plays the trumpet so we were expecting some live music here. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was a holiday weekend so we kinda expected a band. Unfortunately there was no band and parking was pretty difficult. When we finally got parking and found the place I had to use the restroom. The place is kinda dirty, it could be cleaner. We were all seated in the back, away from the bar area and all the commotion. It was nice that we got to have our own little private area in the back with a big table for all of us. Our waiter was a little frazzled at first because it was a bit crowded in the bar and now he had a huge party to take care of too. He got better later in the afternoon and was super nice. I just got an iced tea to drink. Non alcoholic drinks were served in small plastic water cups which was kinda lame, but I guess it helps them keep track of their drinks. Everyone who got a drink from the bar really enjoyed them. We ordered appetizers first. All I wanted was some crispy chicken wings. I got their hot wings with the sauce on the side. We also ordered onion rings and cheesy bread. The chicken wings were ok, the skin wasn't very crispy and it was a little overcooked. I liked both the hot sauce and the ranch though, they helped. I ended up eating most of the chicken wings, I was starving. The onion rings were soggy, I've had better. The cheesy bread was super rich, but I liked it. Tasted like butter, cheese and bread, yum. The bread was a little crispy too so it brought some texture to the otherwise rich mouthful. After we scarfed down our appetizers we ordered entrees. I got the beef stroganoff. On the menu it said it was served over mashed potatoes. I don't really like mashed potatoes, they can be too filling. I saw on their online menu that they also had it with noodles so I asked if they could serve it with noodles and our waiter said they didn't have any. I still got the stroganoff though. Our food came out slowly and not everyone got their food at the same time, but we did only have one waiter for our whole table so it's understandable. My cousin got her food first so I picked off some of her fries. They were really good, not too salty and they were crispy. My beef stroganoff was good. It had a creamy, peppery. earthy and meaty taste. I still thought it was weird that it was served over mashed potatoes. I've actually never seen that before. It's normally served over egg noodles. That's how I like it anyways. The squash and zucchini that was served on the side was really watery. I normally love zucchini but these were bland and soggy. I also tried my Mom's chicken wrap. It was ok, there was too much cheese and not enough chicken. The cheese was like that pre shredded processed cheese from the bag, bleh. At least my stroganoff was good. It was really filling though because of the mashed potatoes. Not to mention the huge portion. I could barely eat a quarter of the plate. That's ok, that means leftovers for days. We asked about their dessert. Our waiter said their only dessert was cheesecake. Man they have a lot of super rich food here. Then he said they were out of cheesecake, so no dessert then. That was ok though, we were all super full. Overall the food was just ok and the service was good. This is more of cocktails and beer type of place than anything else. Holy hell. From the moment we walked in today after a disappointing experience of douche bros and unclear menu pricing at a bar nearby, walked in to Nick's adorable smiling, friendly face. Here for my friend's bday, he asked what she liked, whipped up an idea, and came to check on our group of 6, several times. He is really awesome. This place is tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnyyyy but I kinda' like it. I'm not so much a fan of them trying to charge chicks (ahem, I believe the twins are always on the vip list) but they do provide a pretty good experience. Tuesday nights is 80's night, which nearly causes my friend to lose her shit in anticipation of the songs they'll play. Weee. On a weekend, still sampled a live band, which was pretty damn decent. Bartenders also seem to pour pretty heavy and I have no idea what was in a few of those toxic combinations they recommended to my friend, but holy crap I was definitely on track towards total memory erasure after one fruity bubble gummy type drink. EEK! Crowd wise, I've seen some older types, and I've seen the barely legal types in here. This place seems to house them all. Bathrooms are small but surprisingly pretty decently clean. Overall, I kinda' dig this place, and despite my natural LA born instinct to tell any man trying to charge me any amount of money to walk into a place where they need me more than I need them to f off, I don't altogether entirely hate paying for a pretty decent band who probably barely lives out of their camper to play here. read more

'Glanced at the menu, good prices as well! The only negative thing I would have to comment on was the attitude of the closing bartender... I wasn't going to say anything but when my good friend, JT mentions it not more than two step out of the place, then I know it wasn't just me. 'Usually at places near the beach, I find most of the people to be easy going, laid back... My o'hana is from the North Shore side of Oahu. 'Most locals from beach communities don't have a chip on their shoulder or that "too cool" airs about them... Decided on this spot since they offered open air seating due to the whole covid-19 pandemic. Young girl who attended us was very nice and sat us on the rooftop. It was nice because it was around 1pm and it was nearly empty. The rooftop offers a view of the ocean, tv's and nice umbrellas that shield you from the sun. I had the carne asada torta priced at $12 (very reasonable) and included fries. I have to say, it was quite delicious and the guac was very fresh. The carne asada fries looked good too. Not only is the food horrible, the service was even worse. Horrible customer service and rude managers. The bussers were extremely vocal and rude toward our party about our need to leave our table immediately upon paying our bill even though we had not finished our expensive drinks. From there, the bussers antagonized us again by including other patrons of the restaurant into being disrespectful towards our party even though they were not involved in the situation. Ultimately, if you were trying to decide between going to this restaurant or staying at home, be sure to stay home as getting in your car to drive to Blue Beet is a total waste of time and money. read more

I love this bar! I used to live in NB 10 years ago and remembered Blue Beet. I recently took my boyfriend on a trip down memory lane and stopped at Blue Beet for dinner. If I lived there today this place would be our local watering hole. The dinner specials are fantastic (prime rib on Sunday night for only $12) and it was AWESOME!!! I remember loving the food back then and I still do. They have some of the best Clam Chowder I've ever had! It is peppery and just YUMMY! They also have live music which is a plus and it is a very relaxed atmosphere ...a nice change from the meat heads at the other local bars. It is a bar for the 30+ so go there if you're looking for a mellow place to chill with good live music and great dinner and drink prices. Until we meet again Blue Beet! read more

I've never been here for the food really, but have been here many times for the late night bar scene. This is one of my go-to bars in Newport. First off, the building is basically hidden between a few other buildings and doesn't really have any side that is exposed to the street; the only way to find it is by looking down the alley and looking for the Blue Beet sign in the outside. The place has three levels: a bottom level with a bar and an area where bands play, a second small level that has some places to sit and chill, and a third level with a bar and a rooftop patio. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends and they often do charge a small cover, so keep a few dollars on hand. The beer selection is pretty solid, usually I get a Sculpin or Brother Thelonius. Given this bar's central location on the Balboa peninsula, it's a great place to start your night at. read more
