We live within a 5 minute walk of here and have never actually checked them out. I guess it's almost like we're TOO close, like a "we have food at home!" vibe. It always looked like a good time with picnic tables right by the river ferry though, so we finally made a quick stop for lunch at the end of a bike ride. We just wanted something small as we had plans to cook that evening so we grabbed a couple simple hot dogs that came with fries. The hot dogs had that tasty flat top flavor and were on well toasted, buttery rolls. The fries were crispy and plentiful. Service was friendly and the view is great. Since I only had hot dogs I feel like a can't give a full review, but the dogs and overall experience were good enough that we'll definitely (finally) visit more often to give some other things a try. read more

I was really craving a hot lobster roll, so I searched online and came across this little hidden spot with great reviews. It's tucked away in a nice, quiet area and has a cozy feel. I ordered two hot lobster rolls for me and my husband--$35 each and came with fries. Our son had the chicken tenders and fries. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder, but was disappointed to see them warming it up in the microwave. That kind of took away from the "fresh seafood" experience I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the lobster roll was way too salty, and I even found a hair in mine. I was going to say something, but my husband said to just leave it alone and decided we wouldn't be back. The coleslaw was full of black pepper and really unpleasant. One bright spot was their sweet little daughter who was helping clean up--she came over and kindly asked if we had any trash for her to throw out. My husband gave her a little tip--such a cutie and a hard worker. Overall, it's a nice location and has a lot of potential, but the food didn't meet expectations at all. read more

My season-long quest to find outdoor roadside grills in Connecticut landed me today at The Ferry Grill & Chill. Located in Rocky Hill on the Connecticut River, it is accessible by car and/or boat. The view is awesome, and the food is great. While I got the 8 ounce hamburger, I noted they have a 4 ounce burger for smaller appetites. My meal came to just over $18, but I am a big guy with a big appetite. You can spend less and not leave hungry. As you will see in the photo, the burger is quite large, and the fries are plentiful. All very delicious. In fact, this may be the best burger I have found yet! The service is quick and friendly. I will definitely be returning! read more

I have always had high hopes for the Ferry Grill, and I go there once or twice a summer expecting more than I get. This summer we had shrimp tacos which were quite delicious, and fish and chips which was just ok. The staff was friendly enough. The location is fabulous with lovely river views and a gentle breeze. The jalapeño burger was huge but my husband ate all of it because it was too delicious! Ok ok, I stole a couple bites. I had the fish tacos which were perfect. The slaw has a sweet-tangy balance. You can watch the ferry go back and forth to Glastonbury, boats bobbing on the river and jet-skis cruising by. Don't forget to tip your cook and hostess! read more

Wanted to have a nice lunch with a nice view near the water and this was the closest place that I knew of and that I also found on Yelp. Service was very nice and fast. You have to walk up to the window and order. They have the menu posted and couldn't decide. I asked and got recommended the shrimp with onion rings and that's what I got. I was in the mood for seafood anyway. The ambiance was very casual and peaceful. The ferry wasn't running today because of the high level of water lately. I was able to enjoy my lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the cocktail sauce that came with my dish. My bottle of soda was cold and I would definitely come back to try something different. Even the sign over the ordering counter still reads "Ferry Grill". But the Ferry Grill and Chill is different, mainly because it's new owner, Sarah Bezdelovs is just 18 years old and graduated from Rocky Hill High School in 2021. How cool is that? You can read a newspaper article about her to the right of the ordering counter. Sarah didn't have to do much with the ambience because the beautiful location right on the Connecticut River is gorgeous. She did slim down and tweak the menu a bit, and concentrated on seafood, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. We went for a late lunch at 2:00 on a beautiful weather day that also happened to be Father's Day. They were pretty crowded and were lucky to get a table. Our order was Fried shrimp with French Fries ($14.60),Fried Clam Strips with onion rings ($14.60) and Loaded Lobster Bisque ($10.45). The two seafood plates were great- big portions of shrimp and clams perfectly cooked with excellent fries and rings, plus slaw, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. The bisque? I'll pass on it next time, At ten bucks I didn't really feel it was a good value. No big claws or lobster chunks in there, just some fine shreds. One thing that we noticed was they were sold out of a number of things by the time we got there at 2:00. No scallops, no clam chowder, and no mint chocolate chip ice cream. We sat at a picnic table, enjoyed the sunshine, the waterfront views, the Rocky Hill - Glastonbury ferry looping around from shore to shore, and an excellent lunch. If you've never been here before, I want to recommend it. The food is very good and the atmosphere and scenery are lovely. read more

So many times places like this don't deliver on quality. NOT the case here! While I haven't (yet) been able to try more than a few menu items, I can say the hot lobster roll, fries, and onion rings are all top-notch. We live close to the ferry on the other side of the river, and I think we need to work some regular trips across for lunch into our schedule!! read more

Burger/Seafood shack by the river. Counter service with picnic tables on the deck and lawn( some so broken they would be dangerous to use ) Food was ok but servings were quite small. The fish tacos had ONE small piece of fish the size of a chicken nugget, a teaspoon of deli coleslaw on a tiny raw corn tortilla , that's all you get for $13 so I ordered onion rings which were good. Fish & Chips were good but small. New England clam chowder was tasty All in all it's fine if you want to sit by the river and have a burger. But for $40 I'll get my food elsewhere and sit in the park next door Note: I did not see anywhere for a wheelchair or someone with a walker could get to the counter so plan accordingly. read more

We used to come here when it was just Ferry Grill and food was hit or miss- but NOW with thr new owners the food is delish. A bit expensive side for two lobster rolls? Absolutely lol but very enjoyable. We tried both the hot and cold lobster rolls and both were great- a ton of lobster meat. French fries were made to perfection- dare you not to finish every last fry haha Hope to go back soon and try more menu items and then will upgrade rating. BYOB and great water view. Nice area but overpriced. Paid $10 for a grilled chicken sandwich with potato chips that didn't fill the bun, about 1/4 of it was all bread & it was a very thin cutlet. No flavor but the tomato was good. Greek salad $12 - was looking forward to biting into a greek olive, but they were all black olives. Salad was mostly lettuce, olives, & way too many onions. Definitely not worth $12. Husband said fried clams & fries were good. At least we were entertained by fellow eaters & the ferry. Won't be going back. read more

NOT WORTH IT!! VERY DISAPPOINTING! Went here with my family with an open mind based on the articles that came out regarding it, but for spending $100 with 6 people it was not worth that price. My dad ordered a shrimp po boy sandwich, you expect a shrimp po boy to be fried shrimp on a hearty hoagie roll- no this was small looked like boiled shrimp on PITA BREAD drenched in a sauce. My mom ordered the fried shrimp and got six shrimp in a paper boat with nothing else. My friend chicken sandwich was a frozen chicken patty- Wendy's chicken sandwich is better. The fried clams were overcooked could barely be eaten. This was so upsetting especially with bringing family from out of state. Don't fall for the "fancy" language put in articles and posted online. I'm giving it three stars for the location ambience. Sitting right next to the water is a bonus but I won't go back for the food. The fish and chips is not fresh fish. It is frozen since I asked. I had a hamburger that was not fresh either. It tasted like it was from a bag of stacked frozen perfectly cut round burgers. My husband did not like the fried clams. He said they were a little overcooked and not enough meat. The onion rings were great and the friends that we went with love the place so this is just my opinion. Not theirs. They love it. read more

We had a wonderful spontaneous lunch here over the weekend! The view is fantastic and the food is even better. My husband and I each had a lobster grilled cheese and it was phenomenal! The bread was very different from any sandwich we have had before. It was pita, I believe, and a unique touch. The cheese type used could be changed to a Gouda or cheddar, but nonetheless it was amazing. The fries were super crispy and delicious as well. We appreciated the covered picnic table by the water and the ability to BYOB. We also enjoyed the ability to fish immediately after lunch only 500ft away. we used to go down to the riverboat quite often years ago It was a Nice place to relax and watch the ferry. The food wasn't great but the views were nice. Last year,after reading about the young folks who took over the business we decided to try it. Well now the view is still very nice but it has to take a backseat to the food. It is wonderful!!!!! The folks who took couldby be nicer or more accommodating and the food is fantastic!!!!! You can be assured that we will be down there all summer long! Can't wait for the new season!!!!! read more

Ordered two hot lobster roll dinners which came with cole slaw and french fries or onion rings. What "a big flop!" We were looking forward to big chunks of lobster with butter on a roll and we were given buttered rolls with very little lobster mixed with harsh seasonings and some kind of filler. The bill came to over $70! Remember the ole saying..."where's the beef!" well we can add "where's the lobster!". For that kind of money there should have been a decent portion of lobster in butter on a roll. What a rip off! read more
