I'm honestly disappointed by their Soda Chanh (muddled lime soda) and Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) -- the soda was more like a lemonade and I wish the coffee was made with a bit more condensed milk. Def a cute concept, the restaurant is shaped like a boat and it's cozy inside. We got seated luckily right as another party left but I could see you waiting for a bit if you came in during lunch rush hour. My sisters and I got one of each of the entrees but it took a while to bring out. We noticed that others who were seated after us got theirs right after ours so it may have been a new batch. If I were to come back and pick one out of the three, I would go for the dry noodles. It had the most unique taste with the pineapple pate. The noodle soup and rice were slightly bland and there wasn't really much special about it. Came back after a few years and their pandan waffles with the salted coconut cream is still just as good as I remembered! I ordered the dry noodles this time and I will say I prefer their iconic chicken with the rice instead. The noodles were very salty for me. I came here hungry and it did not disappoint. I got the chicken with the egg noodle soup and krystantumn salad. Best meal I've had in a long time. I highly recommend this place. Food - Everything here was superb when we went. The garlic chicken was crispy. The soup was very refreshing and light. The rice was flavorful and paired well with the other items in the meal. Pandan iced tea was very pleasant as it was not an overpowering pandan flavor which is common in pandan items. Jameson w/ pho broth was surprisingly very good. I didn't want to take the jameson by itself so I mixed mine together and it was yummy. Unfortunately when we went there were no more waffles so I'll have to come back for those. Broth was great, cornish hen was ok - my husband loved it. He said the flavors were great and the meat was moist. The Cornish hen was super flavorful and I'm still thinking about those noodles. I would totally buy a large takeout of just the noodles. It also came with some soup which was flavorful. The soup was just sesame oil, and the garlic rice was bland and slightly mushy. Your best bet here is probably the dry noodles since you can't get the chicken on its own, or order to-go and workshop the rice at home. The boat has a really cute pink exterior, so it is easy to spot, and there is surprisingly a lot of seating inside. Today I ordered the garlic chicken with rice, dry noodles, and the waffles. They literally took 25 minutes to take our order, which is the only con :( but the food was delicious! First time here and been hearing so many good things about this place and it was exceptional. The restaurant is like a throwback in time and the food hits the spot. There's also outdoor seating now and it would feel cozy on an early evening and would feel like you're in Vietnam eating at a street vendor. I've never had a sit down meal at The Boat, but I have ordered takeout several times with great success. Their chicken is remarkable! The first time I stopped in to get some food for a sick friend, I smelled the order of garlic chicken sitting in a bag on the passenger seat, and was temped to take a bite. I couldn't stop myself from devouring the entire leg and thigh! It was crispy and juicy and had lovely carmelization, with a deliciously sweet and savory blend of flavor. I spent the next few minutes licking my fingers and wondering how to replace my friend's dinner! Luckily, there was a pho restaurant on the way and my friend enjoyed a nice, hot bowl of soup. (I never told her about the chicken) I've also ordered a few Vietnamese coffees here and they were strong and sweet and stayed in my system for about 24 hours! When I crave chicken and rice, this is what I want!! If you're familiar with vietnamese fish sauce wings, this gives kinda the same vibe taste wise. It's sweet, salty, garlicky chicken with rice then add a fried egg tops it off really well. They have 2 other options you can choose from with noodles to pair with the chicken, but the rice just feels right LOL. They also offer vietnamese style waffles, pandan and a rotating flavor with a coconut salty cream. The few times I've gone the second flavor has been banana, which is my favorite honestly. Wow, what a dream! We came early on a Saturday; parking can definitely be a little bit tricky. We split 2 different platters and the waffle. Everything was above and beyond. I had seen this spot around a lot and had it saved for a while - I finally got the chance to try it for dinner one evening. It's a little difficult to get to on public transportation, and the restaurant itself is quite small. We had to wait a few minutes for a spot to open and ended up sitting at the bar. They only serve 3 items on the menu for the chicken dishes. I got #3 with the pineapple pate noodles, and also tried some of the noodle soup. The chicken came coated in garlic and was nice and crispy. I do wish some of the flavor was more infused into the chicken itself but it was good despite being kind of difficult to eat due to the shape of it. The dry egg noodles were good, though super salty - I have quite a high salt tolerance but these were a bit much for me. I preferred the pandan to the banana. I was wanting big chunks of banana in there. The salted coconut cream was great though! Drinks: Who knew coffee with coconut meat and coconut water would be a killer combo? If you're a coconut water fan, I recommend trying the ca phe mat, at least I think that's the name? The coco water cuts the bitterness. The cocktails also looked great though I didn't feel like alcohol. Overall: I think this place is good to hang out with friends, grab some drinks, and maybe have some dessert. I don't know if I'd get the chicken again. I absolutely love this place. I've been here twice and had wonderful experiences both times. They have a simple menu with only 3 main dishes, all of which features their iconic garlic chicken. I've tried both the rice and dry noodle dishes. Although both of them were delicious, the dry noodle dish was definitely my favorite. The noodles were packed with flavors and came with a quail egg and cabbages that added some good crunchiness. The chicken itself was nothing but amazing - it was crunchy and garlicky all while being juicy and tender. Aside from chicken dishes, their waffles are also very outstanding. They have two flavors, pandan and banana, and the waffles come with a coconut-based salted cream. The pandan waffles were absolutely divine - it was chewy, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweetness. The salted cream was thick and balanced out the sweetness well. I didn't expect to enjoy the waffles this much! This place also has solid cocktails and drinks. Despite being relatively expensive, The Boat is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. I consider this place a must-try for both local Seattleites and visitors alike! For every visit I've made here, including this one, food is always exceptional and I always leave satisfied. This was on a Saturday lunch time, and there was plenty of seating and no wait time for my friend and me. Parking wise, I'd recommend parking along S Jackson St on the side if you can, other parking options are either relatively sketchy or very far for walking. Expect am ample amount of seating inside and Vietnamese pop music playing on a TV nearby. The menu for this spot is very simple, but their most well-known dish (even before they expanded their menu) is their chicken rice plate. It comes with garlic rice, chicken broth, salad, and a big piece of garlic fried chicken. I got this dish along with their pandan waffles, which comes with coconut cloud whip for dipping. Food came out fast, and service was great, especially when the workers got the waffles ready as soon as they saw my friend and I finish our rice dish. Speaking of the dishes, the chicken rice dish was definitely the highlight of the whole meal! It's appropriately flavored without being too strong, and the garlic rice and salad served as a great palette cleanser for the soup, which was really salty but something I still enjoyed nonetheless. The pandan waffles were awesome too! I can taste the pandan flavoring, and adding the coconut dip enhanced the taste a lot. The garlic fried chicken was so good and the main focus of the meal. The noodles were a bit on the plain side and needs some condiments / chili oil or soy sauce to add more flavor. I've been here a few times and I love the idea of a restaurant specializing in a particulate dish. I think sometimes doing one thing right is the best thing a restaurant can do and I'm sure it makes sense from a business stand point. But I don't even eat meat on the bone, but this place has me legit sucking the meat off a chicken spine and listen, I'd do it again and again. The meat is very flavorful and the sauce they use has the perfect umami flavor. The peanuts add some a nice textural contrast. I've also tried the dry noodle and the rice and both were really good. The broth that comes on the side is also really good. The coffee is good too, my friend tells me it's the same as hello Em a local coffee shop in the area, but I didn't confirm. Either way the iced coffee is a must get if you like drinking a coffee with your meal or post meal. I haven't grabbed dessert here just yet, but I'm sure they're tasty too. The staff is also nice and the food comes out within a reasonable amount of time. Water is served as soon as you're seated and as well. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so seating could be a bit harder to find in a busier day for larger groups, but I've not had an issue so far.
