Im in the international district somewhat often, and The Boat has always caught my attention for its striking exterior, that being of a literal boat. Despite this, I had only tried it once. I came here with some friends on a Saturday since i was in the area. I had heard it was good, so we figured we could give it a try. The restaurant was pretty full, but we were able to get seated at the bar quite quickly. The first thing that struck me was the fact that the menu only had 3 options, which I quite like since it cuts down on the painstaking process of figuring out what sounds best. I ended up ordering the Mi Tron, which was composed of garlic chicken and egg noodles topped with a pineapple pate sauce. The egg noodle was absolutely delicious, with the outstanding sauce. The dish was rich, salty, and a bit of sweet, but it was balanced nicely by the bed of greens, which added a bit of freshness and color. The chicken, on the other hand was unfortunately a bit of a miss, while some parts of the chicken were super moist and flavorful, and other parts were a bit dry. The chicken looked like it would be super crispy, but some parts were more hard then crisp. Part of this is definitely because an entire tiny chicken was cooked at one time, which is bound to leave inconsistencies, so I won't harp on it too badly. As a side note, the limeade was super good! Anyways, moving on... As a dessert, my friends and I shared one of the half pandan half bananna waffles, which was outstanding. The pandan definitely had a better flavor, but the waffle was overall very enjoyable with a soft fluffy center and a deliciously crispy exterior. Overall, I can definitely recommend this restaurant. Came on a Sunday with my sister. They had a few outside tables available within 10 minutes, but didn't want to stay outside so it ended up being about a 20 minute wait. They do have heaters though! Even though the space wasn't big, they're very efficient at getting you in and out. They handed us menus and got our order before we even sat down so the food got to us pretty quick. Food was great, I was expecting the typical chicken sizes and figured we'd get two chicken thighs. But it's actually a small chicken, cornish hen? Food was a good amount and we both had leftovers. The waffles were AMAZING. I was expecting a mochi/chewy texture. But the outside was crispy, the inside soft and delicate. I would recommend the half and half flavor. The banana reminded of the cambodian fried bananas, very nostalgic. Even by itself it was good, but liked the coconut cream dip it came with. Good to the last bite. My only complaint which really isn't a complaint is that the bowl of dried noodles gives the appearance of more is there but it's not as it sits on top of fresh veggies...cabbage maybe. And the drinks are good but way too small and overpriced for the size. Besides that you can't miss here and should try whatever your heart desires you will not go wrong with your choice. One recommendation for you is that of whatever you order does not have a fried egg add it in. You're welcome!! Let's talk about the service, it is great. This was the highlight meal of the day for my family and me. The Boat is literally in the shape of a boat but is actually a small restaurant with tons of good food. I appreciated their smaller menu (three entree options). We got the com ga (chicken rice) and mi tron (dry noodles). Each dish was paired with a side of chicken broth soup and crispy garlic fried chicken. The chicken broth was simple but very delicious--soup paired with onion and scallions. Despite having a crispy exterior, the chicken remained juicy and soft. It was topped with crispy garlic bits that added a burst of flavor with every bite. By the end of the meal, no chicken pieces were left over because it was just too delicious. The chicken rice was so good that I wish we had gotten two of those dishes instead of the dry noodles. While the dry noodles were not bad, they had a bit too much sauce for my and my family's liking. I think it would have been much more enjoyable if the sauce was on the side for us to add in on our own since the noodles, quail eggs, etc., in that dish were good. We also got the bánh kẹp, which is essentially just a Vietnamese waffle. We got two flavors: pandan and strawberry. The fluffy yet crispy waffles were paired with a delicious egg cream. The smell of the waffles being made is something I think I will remember for a long time. Overall, these have to be the best bánh kẹp I have had in a long time. If I ever find myself in Seattle again, I will definitely return. I want to try the third menu item - which I already know will be good since it likely uses the same chicken broth we were served with the two entrees we ordered. I highly recommend anyone in the area stop by. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and the service was great. Note that when I passed by around 11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m., the restaurant was packed. This place had such a simple menu, only three main dish options with options of sides. It's $19 for each dish but their portions are generous. Service was awful unfortunately. Server was on her phone the entire time, walked away when I asked for more water, forgot our waffle that we ordered until we reminded her. On our recent trip to Seattle, The Boat was definitely of our most memorable dining experiences. To start off, you get to sit inside a restaurant in a little boat on the corner of the street. The have a pretty limited menu, but they definitely are doing something right because the garlic chicken is delicious with whatever side it comes with. I came with a group of three - me and two of my Vietnamese friends. I've never seen this garlic chicken dish in the US, but they've had it in Vietnam and love it. We ordered three dishes of the garlic chicken - one with egg noodles and two with rice. Food: Garlic Chicken - the chicken is phenomenal and makes my mouth water just thinking back to it. It's hot and crispy with an amazing fish sauce glaze and fried garlic all over. If you don't like fish sauce, then you may want to stay away because you'll smell like it for the rest of the day probably. Rice/noodles - the rice is flavorful and I usually prefer rice over noodles, but my fiancée loved the egg noodles in soup with it Chrysanthemum salad - this was pretty unique and different the usual "American" salad, but it actually went well with the dish. Definitely not for everyone though. Dessert: Half pink pineapple/half pandan waffle with coconut cloud cream - The salty coconut cream went really well with the waffle, which was not too sweet. My only complaint was that we didn't get two orders! Service was good and everyone was really nice. This is one of the last places that I ate at during my trip to Seattle. I've seen a lot of rave reviews about this place, so I was eager to give it a shot. Parking was very difficult to find because it shares the same parking lot as Pho Bac. I think part of the issue was that there were no clear exit and entrance signs to the parking lot so many people were entering from the exit and vice versa. I would suggest trying to find street parking instead of battling the chaos in the parking lot. We were able to find parking a block away. The exterior of the restaurant is pink and in the shape of a boat which is super cute. The inside is small and you add your name to the list via tablet on the wall. It was very busy when we went but we were seated quickly. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. The outdoor seating does the job and it is covered. I appreciated how the tax is already included in the price listed on the menu. I ordered the mì gà chiên and my boyfriend got the mì tron. When we saw pandan waffles on the menu we could not pass it up and we got that as well. We are both from California and we are huge lovers of Vietnamese food! Visually, everything looked very tasty but I was left with only the taste of disappointment. Despite there being heaps of fried garlic pieces on the chicken, I could not taste any garlic. The fried garlic only added a textural element to the chicken and it seemed like it was just for display. The chicken was very moist and the salad had a zing of acidity which brightened the food. The soup broth for my noodles tasted like chicken bouillon cubes with green onions. BEWARE! I'm not sure if I am the only person to have experienced this but take your utensils, napkins, etc while you have the chance! I was taking a picture of our meal (lol the camera eats first!) and very abruptly the server came by and took away the utensil/napkin holder from out table and gave it to the table directly across from us. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to have grabbed all of our utensils but this definitely caught us off guard. I saw the servers do this to multiple tables; every time without a word and every time without ever bringing it back. The pandan waffle was quite frankly one of the worst I've eaten. The outer crust of the waffle had the texture of rough toast and the first taste that I got was of burnt non-stick cooking spray. Upon picking up the waffle it was very greasy and the waffle was not fluffy. There was barely a hint of pandan taste. The most flavorful aspect of the whole dish was the coconut cream dip that was sweet/salty and it tasted very authentic. Overall, I think this restaurant is severely over hyped and I would not want to come back. Inside is super cute, the windows have dragons drawn on them and a disco ball hung in the corner! The menu is small, but I like how there's limited options because they really focus on their speciality - the chicken! There were also really tasty looking drinks and I was interested in this pandan one. I decided to get the garlic chicken with rice, broth, and salad! I thought it was a really well balanced meal because the chicken and rice both had strong flavors and the broth and salad were lighter and cleansed your palette. It was a decent amount too! A place with as much as hype as this is usually disappointing, I am genuinely surprised by how delicious the food was here. Their menu is pretty straight forward with their main offering being garlic chicken with your choice of rice, noodle soup, or dry noodles. They also offer crafted alcoholic drinks and Vietnamese style waffles. The portions were generously sized and the entire meal felt very balanced, much like a Vietnamese home cooked meal. The chicken had a great umami flavor and was sticky and sweet in the best way possible. I opted into the noodle soup and while it was fine, I took a bite out of my friend's dry noodles and it was so much better. The noodles were drenched in some sort of Maggi pineapple sauce concoction that left me wanting more. The chrysanthemum salad was very fresh and offered many different textures, it was honestly one of the best parts of the meal. While we had an amazing meal, the service was incredibly slow. It took almost 20 minutes to get our food when the restaurant was half empty and it took awhile for the server to get to us when we needed them. The Boat is in a part of Seattle I have never been before but I heard a lot of great reviews from it from tiktok so I ventured out with my friends. Thank goodness I did. The chicken was heaven. It was crispy and juicy and flavorful. The crunchyinness of the garlic exterior blew my mind. The noodles paired with the broth warmed my belly and the fried egg and garlic reminded me of Indo Mie. And another stand out from the dish was actually the pickled carrots!! They tasted so good i wish i had more. We also ordered the pandan and banana waffle and It had the perfect texture of crunch and airiness. The flavors were all there. One thing that left me disappointed was the pandan iced tea, though I did start liking it more after a couple of sips. I just felt like it had too subtle of pandan flavoring. As for The Boat itself... it's a cool boat in a parking lot in the middle of the city. We ate in like the outside patio area (with covering) so can't speak much of the interior. However, eating outside and listening to Vietnamese bangers was delightful. Will say tho that a bird did perch next to us during our time there but he was chill. I was showing my dad around Seattle, and we spent our last day partially in the international district. After stopping at Saigon Deli, we walked past The Deli, and I mentioned to him that this was a very well known place, though I had never been because I don't really like eating meat off the bone. Given that The Boat is known for their half chicken and only really offers variance in their dishes when it comes to the sides, it's never been a place I wanted to try. However, he perked up at the prospect of going to a place that is so good at what they do that they only offer one dish. So we came back that evening for dinner. We weren't super hungry, so we decided to split a chicken rice, and ordered seasoned noodles on the side, which ended up being the perfect amount for us. I thoroughly enjoyed the rice, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but my favorite part of the meal was the chrysanthemum salad. My dad thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and chicken, and he still raves about it to this day. He says it was his favorite meal during his Seattle visit. I have tried the chicken broth, dry noodles and chrysanthemum salad. All are delicious. IMO: the chicken was not the star. We ordered all the dishes expect for the waffles. The chicken was so good! Very flavorful and had braised and crispy bits. The chicken dishes with the noodles were better than the ones with rice. The rice was a little overcooked but it was still good with the chicken and the sauce. The yellow tree cocktail was also pretty good, very refreshing drink. It got very busy by the time we left but luckily they have a self pay station in the front so you can pay without them needing to bring the check to the table. Very cute, small, and unique spot in Little Saigon. There's only a few tables but it can quickly fill up. We got the cơm gà mắm tỏi chicken garlic rice and the mì trộn dry noodles. Servings were plentiful and the chicken was super tender, almost fall off the bone. It was a pretty bony chicken though, and I was hoping that the skin would be crispy but it wasn't. I liked the fish sauce sauce, and not too salty like I've had at other places. I thought the dry noodles had way more flavor than the rice and would opt for the noodles instead next time. I wish they put a little more of the mỡ hành green onion oil on top of the rice. The salad was refreshing and complimented the fried chicken well. My boyfriend ordered the cây vàng yellow tree cocktail. Something about the flavors weren't amazing to me, but I did think it had a strong sugar cane juice flavor. I'd be interested in trying the pandan tea or get a coffee cocktail next time. Both chicken plates were $18. Cocktail was $14. They include tax in the price so it came out to be $50. I was treated to a belated birthday lunch at The Boat back on 6/11/23. The College Friend and I arrived very early and managed to get a parking spot in the shared lot, albeit it was very tight. It was a pleasant Sunday late morning - blue skies, mild, with a brisk breeze. Staff inside looked rather focused and serious as they each took turns having staff meals prior to opening for the business day. We were the first ones in the door, seated at a two top, handed menus, and water. Like the restaurant staff, the menu was very focused. We both ordered the signature Garlic Chicken Rice ($18 each). Passed on the noodles or any of the featured waffles. The College Friend opted for a Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk. Seemed a bit small and mostly ice for the price. I decided to stay with water. I am loyal to my Viet phin style coffees from Lotus Pond and Voi Ca Phe. Service was very efficient and we received our orders shortly thereafter. The garlic chicken served is actually more of the size of half a Cornish game hen (not chicken), rice, and broth. Unlike others, I found this to be a bit underwhelming despite the various savory components. My College Friend also concurred. I guess my preference is towards the poached, garlic/ginger infused Hainanese chicken rice featured with Singaporean, Thai, Chinese, and Malaysian cuisine. However, the big standout was the accompanying generous chrysanthemum salad! Fresh, complex, flavorful - that itself was a five! But this was not enough to offset the rest of the meal and uneven wait service. First person was not really enthusiastic, sent off vibes not wanting to be there. Inside the restaurant there is a bar area and from the bar area to the tip of the boat, there are chairs and tables lining the sides. This is definitely one of the more unique restaurant ambiances I've been to as it sort of gives a diner feel, yet they serve delicious garlic chicken instead of burgers. Service is fast (though we went before the big dinner rush) as after we ordered, we received our food within 10 minutes. I tried the Com ga mam toi ($18), which came with garlic chicken, rice, salad, and a soup. The chicken was flavorful, as there was literally garlic covering the entire chicken as you can see in the picture. The chicken underneath was succulent and the skin was crispy. They also give you a side of sauce, which had a more Vietnamese sweet dipping sauce with a hint of fish sauce (there was umami, but can't fully place my finger on it) flavor profile. Onto the sides - the soup was my favorite, as it is a delicious clean broth with an inviting chicken essence, I think it went well with the rice and the chicken. I guess one critique I have is that the chicken quantity is a deceptive - since it is basically half a cornish hen, it is more bone than meat - leaving me with a hoping for a slightly more substance. But that is just a personal preference of mine. I also was able to sample some of their viet waffles - they were pretty tasty and had a nice light and fluffy texture. The waffles were delicious on their own, but the cream sauce they had complemented nicely as it gave the waffles more body and texture. In the end, I spent about $21 (an entree and splitting the waffles between 3 people) for the experience. The Boat is a solid place to visit if you are looking for a unique atmosphere with a healthy full meal of delicious food. I would definitely like to revisit sometime in the future to try the other options. read more

Got the garlic chicken and rice. Came with a bowl soup. Chicken was very flavor and crunchy

The chicken were garlicky and crunchy - they taste so good! I like how simple the menu is because I don't need to think too long about what to order. The rice tastes better with the chicken than the noodle soup. The banana pandan waffles didn't have much flavor so it's a good option for people who enjoys desserts that aren't too sweet. read more

A small little spot in I district! The food was super good, there's 4 choices only and all chicken dishes. It was fried to perfection and all the sides accompanied it well. The entire restaurant smelled great as they were making waffles too which I wish we could have tried. Service was good, with the waiter coming around to refill water often. read more
