We totally love this place! The food is great. Service is excellent. And the contactless ordering and paying works very well. On this visit we got appetizers. Fried calamari, steamed Shrimp, and raw oysters. All were amazing! The oysters were delicious and fresh. The calamari was tender and the sauces that came with it were great. The steamed shrimp were large and tasty. They have a good choice of local beers and good choices for wine. Serene and Mackenzie provided excellent service. My son and I came for lunch this past weekend. The server really took his time to explain the ordering process and there was adequate signage on the table explaining the %20 service charge. It is concerning that people have been so negative about this up and coming practice. We need theses servers to stay in their jobs and feel secure in their income. Hats off to the Boathouse owners for showing us the correct way to support staff in the hospitality industry! Anyway, my son and I had the jalapeno hush puppies and bowls of clam chowder to start - both excellent! My son considers himself a connoisseur (consider his 16 years on this Earth) of said chowder and loved it! For our mains, I ordered the tomato salad and he had the mussels. I came with a date on a Thursday and the patio was packed! I soon learned that when the weather is nice (even on a weeknight) you should make reservations. The host took our names down and we enjoyed the view with drinks while we waited. We waited about 45 minutes when we finally got our table on the patio. Overall, we had a great experience because of the views and live music. Colin and Caroline play every Thursday, you can check them out on Spotify. The food was okay. Well plated, pricey, lacking in flavor, and nothing phenomenal. This location Boathouse though is better than the other locations. NEVER plan a special event at this place. Two days ahead, We made reservations for 6 at 6pm to celebrate my moms 90th birthday. The restaurant was advised of this special occasion for which two of us had traveled across the country to attend. We arrived and were advised the only table we could be seated at was outside. We told them that it was not possible for my mom. Their only solution was for us to wait an hour for a wedding to end or sit at two separate tables! We even spoke to the general manager and that was all they could offer. Needless to say, this was very upsetting for us all. They should never have taken the reservation if they knew they had a wedding taking up more than half their tables until 7pm. We were all very upset, especially my mom, who had wanted to eat at this specific restaurant, which was recommended. In addition, it's pretty difficult to find somewhere else to eat at 6pm on a Saturday night without a huge wait, which is difficult for her. They are fighting an uphill battle with their QR code system Jayden in particular was a superstar who had to be both server and IT specialist. It was our first time there. I had the filet oscar which was absolutely delicious, my DH had the 12 oz filet which lacked in flavor and was a bit dry (he was very disappointed especially when he tried my steak), and our 8 year old got the kids popcorn shrimp. The shrimp pieces where huge and my son said they were delicious. The bar serves Russian Mules in the copper mugs, which I'm a huge fan of. I didn't get one this time, but I'll return and definitely get one next time! read more

This is a tough review to give for a couple of reasons. We came here for the 4th of July BBQ fireworks celebration. The food was typical food that someone might grill. Hamburgers, hotdogs, bbq chicken, chips, salads, small deserts etc. First the food: at $39.95 a person we expected a little better quality. Maybe more sides, more flavor. It seemed every time we went up they were out of salad, veggies for the burgers and the sliced cheese was warm and kind of gross. The cobblers were way over cooked and did not taste good. Maybe we got a bad batch because ours were a lot darker than the table next to us. despite the quality of the food we knew we were there really for the fireworks. However because of the weather the fireworks did not happen. Now I know the Boathouse has no control over the weather; however we spent a total of over $300 for a disappointing meal that half our time was spent soaking wet standing inside with everyone else crowded still hungry just waiting on the rain to stop or word of whether the fireworks would still go on. I will say the staff were all very nice and polite so this review is no reflection on them. They were dealing with the situation they were being dealt. If the boathouse is going to do an event such as this then they should have something else in place to make it worth people's money, maybe a band, better food, something. I would not recommend going here for an event because you are likely to walk away very disappointed! read more

I've celebrated birthday parties and had a few family dinners here. They have GREAT staff, a beautiful view of the reservoir, great BIG patio, and delicious food and drinks! Try their margarita or peach bellini for a drink. Their steak and salmon are great options for dinner. Though the menu overall is expensive, they do have some cheaper options if you don't have the $ to splurge on a $30 meal. They have some pizzas, burgers and chicken dishes under $20 and under $15. read more

We have always loved the Boathouse. However, they have horrible service. We had a party of 10. They wouldn't seat us until all had arrived. You do not have a server. You have to order from your phone. Then if you have a question, you have to either look for someone or wait to flag them down. No one can answer a question ,but a captain. If I pay $44.00 for an entree, plus appetizers and a $144.00 bottle of wine and drinks, I expect personal service. Everyone's meal came out at different times as well. Plus they charged two credit cards for the same bill. Covid is not an issue now. The owners are saving money. Let them. We will never go back. I do not recommend the Boathouse at Sunday Park. read more

We ordered the oysters for an appetizer, and the Chesapeake chicken and the filet for the main course. The wine was delicious! Try the 499 Moscato! Have been dining there for many years and was extremely disappointed today. No full service. You order yourself from your smartphone. No waiter takes your order. They add a 20 percent service charge. We were brought water and a coke. I had to ask before we left if I could have a refill. The California omelette we ordered were nothing like before. I complained to one of the staff and they stated their menu had changed. Let's just say McDonalds eggs would have been a step up from this. Dry, tough and the filling was a slice of cheese. Awful. It's really a shame. I support the local restaurants and have had not a single bad experience but at The Boathouse the service is non existent and our food was pretty tasteless. The quality is gone. Older, unhappily married women who desperately try to look and act like single twenty somethings. As has been pointed out by a few reviewers here, you pay for the view when you dine at this restaurant. My girlfriend and I arrived for dinner about 6 p.m. on a Tuesday night. We were greeted & seated quickly, and our waitress was quite helpful in explaining the various menu options, and bar specialties. I used to occasionally dine at this restaurant back in the mid-90's, when the menu was more "blue collar", family-oriented and affordable. But over the past 10 yrs, that's changed, and even the restaurant's name was changed (it used to be called "Sunday's"). Now it's an over-priced adult hangout. They doubled the size of the outdoor deck and opened a second bar out there. They also "upgraded" the menu and, most notably, increased prices -- a lot! By my estimation, nearly everything on the menu (including entrees, desserts, even the $10 glass of wine) are actually "worth" about $5 less than the menu price. So if when you're ordering crab-stuffed trout for $24 (which I had), it was smallish and would likely cost closer to $19 at most other restaurants. By the time you order an overpriced cocktail or glass of wine, overpriced appetizer and/or entree, and overpriced dessert, you've spent about $15-$20 more PER PERSON than you would for comparable food at most other restaurants. And if you order a second drink or third... that "overage" goes up dramatically. We arrived in time to see the sunset, which is the best time to dine here. It is beautiful, though it would have been even nicer to have been outdoors on the deck (too cool this time of year). Attire at the Boathouse is supposed to be somewhere between casual and "business casual", but customers pretty much wear whatever they feel. Most folks are dressed in slacks and/or seasonal dresses, but you'll see people in jeans too, and the even the occasional ball cap. You may see a few blazers, but not too many ties. We had a $50 certificate we had purchased online from "Social Living" and we wanted to keep our entire Boathouse check close to that amount. That meant skipping cocktails/wine, and an appetizer so that we could split a dessert. My date ordered the Jerked Salmon Cakes ($20) and I ordered the aforementioned Crab Meat Stuffed Whole Trout, which was recommended by another reviewer on another website. As that reviewer reported, my Crab & Trout was quite good as were the "sweet potato fritters" that came with it. However, my date's Salmon Cakes were pretty much tasteless, as were the "fingerling potatoes" that came with it. She was quite jealous of my delicious dish. From what I've read in reviews here and on other sites, the menu at the Boathouse is really hit or miss with regard to quality. If you don't do your online research before you go, you're just throwing the dice. And since everything on the menu is overpriced (including the desserts), you're foolish to take that chance. For dessert we split the "Pizzookie". Most reviewers raved about the Pizzookie, and we did enjoy it, however, most reviewers failed to mention how small it is. Just one scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of a regular size soft chocolate chip cookie, with lots of whip cream and some chocolate sauce. It's barely enough for one person's dessert, and certainly not worth $7.50. As far as service, our waitress was fairly attentive, but the food took an inordinate amount of time to be delivered to our table... and the restaurant wasn't that crowded. The couple that was seated next to us shortly before we sat down, received their two entrees (looked like a steak dish and a shrimp dish), finished eating them AND was served & finished their cheesecake dessert, before our entrees even arrived! As we were departing about 7 p.m., the restaurant was filling up and there weren't many empty tables remaining. The patio wasn't open, but I imagine they do open it on Friday & Saturday nights (possibly with stand-up propane heaters that they used several years ago on the patio). In conclusion, if you have a special occasion or want to impress a date, the Boathouse is a pretty good bet. Just be sure to do your "homework" online first, so you can avoid some expensive menu pitfalls. Expect to pay a lot no matter, and try to limit your alcohol consumption so you can still afford to put your kids through college. Oh, and expect big crowds on the weekends. P.S. The Boathouse posts its menu(s) -- with prices -- online. Unfortunately, it doesn't include their cocktail menu, but just know that they push specialty martinis (even though they reportedly aren't that great). read more

The Boathouse has some seriously GREAT atmosphere. It is spacious with two big bars, one that looks like it belongs in a swanky club, and the outside one framed in white wood that looks like it belongs at a yacht club. We went in the early evening and were able to sit out on the big deck (at an over-sized picnic table) to watch the sunset. It did get dark after awhile, and the lighting is a bit poor out there, so it was hard to see toward the end of our meal. Other than the great location, the Boathouse doesn't offer much. Okay, the service was decent, but the food was overpriced. My fruit mojito was good, not great, and could've stood a bit more rum, especially at the cost of ~$9. The crab hush puppies were good but actually needed more crab (they were more "puppy" than seafood). The Caesar salad I had was AWFUL -- it was literally doused in an overpowering dressing. My burger and fries were subpar but still cost me about $15. The shining dish was actually the pizookie we had for dessert (basically cookie dough covered in ice cream and chocolate sauce, plenty for two or three people). So overall, my recommendation would be to go for some drinks here -- it's worth saving your food money for elsewhere, but the location is pretty awesome, and I could definitely see myself enjoying a cocktail or two during a sunny afternoon. read more

The serverless ordering experience leaves a lot to be desired and the fact that you are adding a service fee but still leaving a space for the tip is sneaky. There shouldn't be a 20% fee/tip added if the servers aren't doing the full service. As for my food, it was okay, but 5Guys burger is still better and cheaper and $14 for a mixed beverage is way high. In addition, if you are going to be an outside dining experience venue, you need to offer some type of fly deterrent, fans, candles, quicker collection of dirty dishes. I have frequeted this location for years, I always sit in the bar area or at the bar. Service has been hit and miss. Last night I met a friend and there happen to be 2 seats at the bar, it was obvious some people had just left as there was food and the check on the bar. We sat down, it was crowded, and waited patiently. No one acknowledged our presence. 10 minutes in I had to ask a bartender if we could get a drink. We were able to get a second drink without to much of a wait, but aparently a 3rd drink was out of question. The place had cleared out considerably and the bartender was way more worried about ringing in her tips than looking around to see if anyone needed anything. We waited at least 10 minutes and had to basically yell for our check. We were going to eat but left and went somewhere else. I managed a bar for 15 years and the 1st thing we taught to every bartender and server is to acknowledge your customer. It's ok to say, "we're really busy right now, I promise I'll get to you as soon as I can". I have about had it with this place! read more

We had dinner June 7 and had an exceptional experience with this restaurant. Our server was Mason and he was terrific. His friendliness and knowledge made our experience a memorable one. The food was great. The service was superb and the view of the lake from the outside tables were key factors in making our experience a great one. Pros: Service was great; friendly, knowledgeable, prompt, attentive. The view is spectacular -- if I come back, it will be for drinks/appetizers on the patio. I liked the crab hushpuppies a lot. Cons: Holy overpriced menu, Batman. I had a voucher for $80, and we spent all of it on an appetizer, two entrees and two mini desserts. No alcohol. If the food were outstanding, I'd be more forgiving, but, really, I've had SO MUCH better. I had stuffed shrimp with brussels sprouts. They were okay. Nothing to write home about. I tried my fiancee's mac and cheese and pork belly -- it was served all piled together in a skillet (yuck), the mac and cheese was flavorless, the pork belly was dry, and the collard greens tasted like kimchi (not my thing). Based on the menu prices we dressed up a bit, but there were people in ratty jeans and t-shirts... so I don't really get this place at all. This place was a huge disappointment. The decor looks like one of the nicer places at VA Beach, which is fine, but the entrees should be priced about $10-12 less than they are. Or at least improve the food. read more

Recently moved to Richmond and were told we had to check out the Boathouse. It was a very nice experience, but not sure I'm up for 5 stars just yet. Seating was a challenge. The weather was pretty nice and we would have preferred to sit outside but in the shade (not the direct late afternoon sun). There was shaded seating available but they had that section closed and only the sunny section opened. I can understand limitations on wait staff and all that, but maybe an adjustment could be made when your chosen seating is not very prime. We ended up moving inside after about 10 minutes. Overall the food was pretty good, excellent Salad and a very respectable pizza. Waitress was very nice, and I liked the presentation they do with even a bottle of water. We'll likely be back, I think it's got a great potential and it's sure close to our new home! read more

We went here for Sunday brunch on 12/10/2017. Our party had 20+ people. The restaurant and staff accommodated us easily. Our servers (Sara & Mahogany) we're friendly and professional. No complaints. The food was delicious! Belgian waffles and made to order omelettes! Perfection. Some of the other orders came out a little slow, but I'm not tripping at all. The manager promptly apologized so I won't let that affect my score. This was as good as some brunches here in Las Vegas. I'm going here again when I'm on that side of the United States. read more

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars .... Went with a small group (7) for Sunday brunch. It was a rainy day, so we were indoors. Great menu, food and adult drinks. Ordered a 1/2 carafe of Mimosa to share and it comes with a straw. So, that's like one drink. Don't get me wrong, I'm good with that and would have totally ordered one for myself if I understood that's how it was served. Food was great, a few of us got the Crab Cakes Benedict which was yummy (I didn't care for the potatoes that came with). I also ordered the Blueberry Lemonade, a little strong so I got a shot of lemonade to dilute it a bit. Much better that way. Music.... Here's why I bumped it down to 3 stars. The dude was perfectly fine, but why? Why do restaurants feel the need for the live music? I don't get it at all, especially brunch. It is difficult to have a conversation over people with music. And isn't that why most of us go out to eat? To have polite conversation? If you're going to have music, it needs to be quiet background music. I want to hear my friend's story. If I wanted live music and to have to shout, I'd go to a club. Yeah. I know. That makes me sound old. Meh. Whatevs. read more
