My daughter and I decided to try "The Boil Shack" today as we used to enjoy the previous restaurant that was in this location. We went in a Saturday at lunch time. The place was immaculate and the decor fits the Louisiana theme. We were seated promptly and it was long after that our waitress came and took our order. We ordered the pick your own seafood boil with shrimp & snow crab legs as we do not like craw fish...actually I'm not sure if I don't like them...I have no idea how to eat them lol we chose the explosion sauce at the suggestion of our waitress...what a great recommendation, it was absolutely delicious. Any way there was plenty in this boil to feed 2 people. Along with the seafood it had sausage, potatoes and corn in it. We ordered a side of slaw and maple corn bread. The slaw was delicious. It was nice to have something cool on the back of the spice from the broil. I'm a Lover of corn bread and was excited to try maple flavored and it looked phenomenal when it was delivered to the table drenched in butter. Unfortunately I was severely disappointed. It was completely dry and brittle and cold. I reported this to our waitress and she quickly replaced it with a different side, we reluctantly chose hush puppies, afraid of the same dryness we experienced with the bread but...we were actually pleasantly surprised. They were delicious. They came with a yummy dipping sauce but I mostly dipped mine in the broil juices. That sauce is AMAZING. Although I was bummed about the bread it was remedied quickly. The waitress stated that was not the usual texture so maybe we got a bad batch. However I will not allow that to stop me from going back. I would order the same meal all over again but I am looking forward to trying other dishes on the menu. Lastly I thought the prices were reasonable. Go Get your Boil on!!!! Started with oysters, a chilled loster and jumbo shrimp as appetizer. The oysters were below average (go to Jack downtown for ousters), the lobster didn't come with a sliced tail or any decent instruments to crack it...you only get a nutcracker and a fork. The shrimp were not boiled in broth and tasted very plain. After that we went for Mardi gras pasta, which weren't flavored at all and were missing the squash listed on the menu. Also had some scallops which were very decent but came with broccoli rabe that was mainly stem (1/3" thick). We of course had a boil, which was decent if you like eating out of a plastic bag. A boil could be served in a papillotte instead, much more adequate for a restaurant. The whole restaurant tries to be upscale until you look at the table cloths, the plastic bag boils, customers playing with crawfish and the lack of proper cutlery and tools for lobster. One extra star for the cocktails though. There were very good. read more

Wanted crab legs and the convenience of not cooking them at home so I decided to try boil shack after not eating here in over a year. The raw oysters and the cold water stole the show. My passionfruit margarita wasn't good. My wife got a pomegranate margarita and didn't taste like pomegranate. My wife got a king crab boil and I got the summer special with snow crabs, main lobster and shrimp IT WAS ALL CHEWY AND OVERCOOKED. Our tab was $177 and I hated to spend that when the food was awful. And the eggs taste like preboiled eggs you buy in the pack from Cumberland. NEVER AGAIN, unless I'm really craving oysters. read more

Okay...let me start off by saying the waiter was so polite and friendly. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner he was very nice as well...beautiful restaurant, I will say it is what you make it you can get dressed up or dress casual. I wore regular clothes because I was getting a seafood boil (it can get pretty messy lol.) This restaurant is good for groups(children) or just a romantic night out. Tucked away and not easy to find off Wolf Road even though very close to Colonie Center. A variety of menu options suitable for non seafood eaters but their main focus is crab, shrimp and seafood in general. A few too many items at market prices --may consider printing daily prices or a chalk board to avoid surprises. Boil bags are easy to reheat anything you couldn't finish and the bibs and gloves are extra bonus to keep your clothes and hands clean. Went with a group of six and left with six happy faces. The Boil Shack is a true seafood experience. If you're coming for lunch, they have the best poke bowls in town. We just finished an amazing dinner - A shrimp, clam, lobster boil. They actually give you rubber gloves, which seems strange at first, but what a pleasure to eat with your hands and take the gloves off to clean hands!! The food was perfect and their sauces are so tasty. We got Cajun medium and it was finger lickin' good!! Also, I can't say enough about how attentive the wait staff is #AskForJeff. This is a Louisiana style seafood menu . I ordered the king crab leg as and clams as a main dish and fried oysters as a appetizer. The portions were large and the food was delicious. It was super expensive, my bill was about $ 123 . But that's to be expected if you order king crab legs , there are definitely lest expensive combos . Went in for my lunch break lil past 1pm. Sat at the bar and waited for over 15 min while a tall, blonde bartender was more occupied flirting with male customers than taking my order. When I asked for service and where the manager was, she was rude and condescending as she made it apparent that she was the manager. I was previously there this past Saturday to celebrate a birthday. We had 10 people with us, they accommodate us fine. We sat down and already had waters on the table to start. I had order a dozen of the raw oysters. Delicious, very clean cold and fresh. I had order the boil combo #2 and split it with my cousin. We got the explosion/ medium heat. Best choice. It was the best tasting seafood boil I have ever had. When we finished the combo there was a lot of left over sauce on the sheet pan. We asked our server for some corn bread. He brought of a huge piece of corn bread. It was out of this world, it had a honey maple brown sugar butter on the top. It went well with my left over sauce. I WILL BE BACK. One of the best meals I've had in a while!! Everything was cooked perfectly, the garlic butter sauce drenched all over my crawfish and lobster was amazing (almost put a straw in it). This is an odd place. The physical setting is nice, the location is great, our server was really nice, and the food was good. That being said, it's offset by the fact that it took forever to get our meals, the staff seemed disorganized. Worst part was some drunk guy at the bar dropping loud obnoxious f-bombs all over the place. Distasteful and out of sync with the ambiance they are trying to create. This seafood house has Cajun/Creole style seafood, plus a poke bar. We stopped for Tuesday lunch; I tried the little neck clam boil, and my husband had the snow crab boil. They were tasty, and came quickly (not a lot of customers at the time). I imagine this would be a nice "splurge" dinner with a cocktail or two on the weekend. My husband can't eat wheat, so it was helpful that the boils and poke bar can be gluten free. Came to the boil shack approximately 2 years ago and the service, the food & the portions were great. Now with COVID we order to home, but this weekend was both my dad & my husband's bday, so given the experience 2 years ago, I decided to celebrate at the boil shack & was so disappointed that I wouldn't even order out anymore. The portions cut down tremendously from last time. Two very small lobster tails, 1 potato & a piece of corn for $45. When I made the reservation I asked specifically not to be served in a bag & was told when dining in, could be served on a plate. Not so! When I asked for plates, we were brought tiny plates. My mom's pasta dish was macaroni & swimming in an oily sauce & very spicy although she requested no spice. They don't serve appetizers- not even a butter roll! No water was offered & they forgot to bring my daughter's meal. We waited forever to get a bill, the table to be cleared or even to be asked if we wanted dessert. Like promised, the robot never came to sing happy bday or bring the cheese cake. When we ask for the bill, the waiter was so sarcastic. All that mess & was charged $292, which was so not worth it. Ordered the crawfish, explosion sauce with medium spice. The sauce tasted pretty good at the time, but I have been suffering a lot from a digestive point the past few hours after eating it and I have eaten much spicer things with no issues. I have eaten all kinds of foods in New Orleans with no issues. Not sure if this was a fluke.... But it has been awhile since I felt this terrible. Maybe avoid the crawfish and/or explosion sauce. We tried the food before within a week, it was amazing, I was back again today and I see they have put a mandatory 18% tip and the manager said that they have changed it for few weeks already...I'm not saying the food isn't good, I LOVE THE FOOD, that's why I came back, but sorry the waitress who was serving us wasn't so nice, she asked us so many times if the food is enough after we finish ordering like the food we order wasn't enough( we only have 2 ppl) We didn't order the combo, we got 1lb of shrimp and some blue crab, we wanted to get some desert afterwards so don't wanna get too full. We asked her how big would be blue crab she was like what do you mean? I repeated again what's the size of ur normal blue crab? I'm really curious cus you only get 2 for 15$ but she didn't know what I'm talking about. After all the busy times, she arrives and asked me if I'm done, I said can I see the dessert menu pls? She said she will bring it right up to me, but then she bought us the check instead, which didn't include the 18% tip, I asked again if I could have the dessert menu, she just simply spoke to me about the dessert incredibly fast, so I said ok let's try the caramel cheesecake then, but after we tried it and realizing it tastes like peanut butter( sorry I hate peanut butter), she said it's called Caramel peanut butter pie...Alrighty, she returned it to the kitchen for us and refunded, and then handed us the check which has the 18% mandatory tip on there...I even asked the manager, he showed me the menu that wrote that an 18% tip will be charged for each person, although he explained because of the employees complained about the low tips they have received before. But honestly, the 18% tip made me feel like I'm at Manhattan...and the service was just nah, I would just give her 14% at most. It's not like I'm being so pity about giving out tips, it's all about the service, if you served well, I could even give u 20% with no extra words, but you charged 18% but with this service?? They need to understand they get tips bc they serve customers well, if you don't treat them well then you shouldn't be getting enough of tips either. My fiancé and I were in the mood for seafood and wanted to try a new place other than Red Lobster (which feels overpriced for what you get), hence our stumbling upon this page. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed in the slightest. We were seated the second we walked through the door and were almost immediately greeted by Jeff our server, who was super nice and well informed about the food. To start, we split a cup of gumbo (which was awesome) and then we got two boils, the King Crab (recommended for having the most meat and ease of cracking: oh my gosh so good!) and the Crawfish (also really good, with big crawdads, and completely changed me from not liking them to loving them lol) with Old Bay seasoning, so it wasn't super spicy (I'm a big wimp about spicy food). And I'm super glad we were supplied with our bucket, napkins and gloves, which kept us clean throughout the meal and easy clean up after. We left happy and full, with a 100 dollars less (that's a nice tip included). Sure, that's a little much for a meal, but that's seafood in general. I feel like if a place is nice, the seafood tastes fresh and great, and we have lovely service, that price is worth it. And it really was! We're definitely planning on coming back. read more

Not a great experience. Started off with 2 beers and the crawfish. Beer was ice cold and the crawfish was a bit lacking. Ordered them "spicy hot" and it was medium at best. When we finished the crawfish, we were left with a fair amount of broth which would have been amazing if we had been served bead and roll which....prompted my questioning one of the servers that cleared our crawfish. When I asked why we weren't served some type of bread, she responded that they do offer it...for $5. . Entrees were next. My wife's shrimp and grits was a power house of flavor. Her only complaint was that the shrimp was served tail on, which isn't unusual but, the shrimp were somewhat buried in the grits and a copious amount of sauce requiring her to pluck them out with her fingers which was a bit messy. Not a big deal. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with the white BBQ sauce. Since this is a New Orleans themed restaurant, I expected fried chicken with bold flavors. Not so much. The sandwich was impossible to pick up. Thankfully they added a steak knife on the platter. The skin and breading slid off of the chicken leaving a fairly bland pice of meat and the white BBQ sauce was close to vanilla frosting. The whole white BBQ sauce thing is lost on me. I had to ask for salt since it wasn't provided on the table, hoping it would punch up the chicken a bit. Didn't help. Honestly, the BBQ sauce ruined the sandwich. 3 beers, 1 order of crawfish, 1 entree and a sandwich, $90 with tip. All in all, not a bad experience but I don't expect to be back anytime soon. read more
